I was trying out some stuff on my bass,i found some rubberbands lying around.I put them on my bass.it sounds kind of trebley. But then you hit the string downwards it sounds like your Slapping.well to me tho.go try it,make sure you put it on some of the higher frets.

Personally, I prefer actually slapping. And really, my bass doesn't need any more treble, the amount it has is staggering. Just ask anyone who knows anything about my bass.

yea rickys tend to be Bright

and i cant really see how people can play with a pick and not get much fret buzz

e.g. Chris Squire...

Sometimes when my fingernails grow out it sounds like I'm using a pick.

When I pluck harder, it sounds like I'm popping.

Well, that makes obvious sense. A pick is just a solid surface that doesn't provide any cusion, as opposed to your fingers. And a pop is, in essence, just a really hard pluck with your fingers.

If you are interested in something that uses rubber/silicon strings, try an Ashbory bass. It's fairly small, and the silicon strings give it an upright-like sound.

Here's a video I found of someone explaining it and demostrating the sound.

Here's a clearer video that demonstrates the sound a little better.

I'm guessing a Ric? They are a little bright, but you just can't replicate the Rickenbacker sound.

i can replicate the sound with my bass. its got a little more treble then ricks. but thats only because the pickups i have were wired weird or something. its a yammaha. idk i just got it last week....alls i know is its super bright when i roll the treble up

Well, as treble-filled as your tone is, a Yamaha still can't replicate the tone of a Ric. It's not just the brightness, there's also a killer amount of the lower tones.
I'm sorry, but there's no way a yamaha can accuratley rip off a Ric tone.

Easy, he's not saying he has the sound, he's just saying he gets a lot of treble.

Why would you have tried that, anyway?
