We found a stray cat yesterday that had a wound on its backside. He's not in too bad a shape, considering the fact that whatever it was had intended to finish him. We took him to the vet and got everything cleaned up... the only thing we're waiting for now is to see if the poor thing has rabies or not... He looks like a Dolly Persian or whatever you call that type. =3 He'll grow up to be big and fluffy!

I'm worried though, there's a bit of a death toll for stray kitties in this house. One was a stray that my sister found... she got hit by a car... We'd named her Baby. Another that I'd found that was VERY sick and very thin. I fed him, and the next morning when I woke up to check on him he'd thrown up the food and had diahrea(sp) and was breathing very heavily... he didn't make it to the vet... I hadn't named him. The last one was a cat and not a kitten like the others. I let him in the house for the night and let him out the next morning and we never saw him again. I'd named him China, he was/is a very affectionate cat...

Has anyone ever brought home any strays?

Skitzo we found. She seemed as healthy as a normal house cat, and we put up posters, but no one has claimed her. She likes it here, but Shadow (my other cat) still treats her like an outsider.

I hope for the best for China. 3nodding

I have never found a stray myself. My sisters seem to have that in spades though. We've learned to steer clear of gray strays because they seem to disappear on us...and not in a good way since we live out in the country. sad

Is Shadow a girl? It might just be because she's in her territory. ^^; That happens when you put two full grown cats together all of a sudden. Thanks... I hope he's okay too.

T.T They get eaten? That's horrible... my cousins' cat Clairence ran away and didn't come home for two years. Turns out he was deep in their backyard and had made a family. =3 You never know, they might come back.

I hope that both come back someday... but I just don't want to get my hopes up.

(Shadow's a guy. I have a lot more stories about how they interact, but that's another story...)

There's also another cat we had - our first cat, Rascal. Our friends found him in the coyote-filled desert, and raised him for a while. He lived with us after that, and we had fun with him. But if you take a cat from the desert (Arizona, maybe?) and bring him to a suburb area (California), he's not gonna stay indoors, is he? He was an outside cat.

But he kept leaving more an more often, and now we don't see him anymore. There are, as we recall, rare occurances of his return to the backyard or the food bowl. I think he enjoys the new environment.

Aw... I don't think I've ever had an outside cat that didn't come back.

I would like to have an indoor exclusive cat, because that way, I know they're safe. 3nodding

We let our cats go where they want, as long as they have collars. 3nodding And if they have a bad experience with something outside, they can just stay inside.

But the problem with that, Scoot, is that once they are outside cats, you can never truly make them indoor cats.

That's true in many cases, yes. Usually when I'm home, Shadow and Skitzo are, too.

The problem with keeping pets inside is that on the occasions that they do get out, they're not that familiar with the outdoors, and something bad might happen.

I'm not saying there's a right and wrong way. Both methods have their ups and downs. 3nodding

There was a cat at my old neighbourhood, and I was sure it belonged to my neighbours, but it always used to hang out at my house. It loved us, but my friend used to live opposite me, and the cat would leave dead, headless birds in their back yard whee
