So lets get crackin on this, we'll figure things out here and make a new thread out of the results.

a good jungle city should be a rather large place that a new character can easily slip into, structured enough that to some extent all the characters see the same world, with out it being so complex that the shear size scares them away

heres my idea

Rinon
The Harbor city Rinon on the southeastern coast of the jungle continent.

Named for the mythical warrior Rinon Hiera who is said to have stood alone on an unarmed fishing boat against a the fleet from Ace Sia's Sun Empire, defending his home with only a jack of spades. Though he was killed in the five day battle what ships remained of the fleet were forced into retreat, and having not seen his death never returned for fear of facing him again.

The harbor itself is well know for its depth and is one of the largest across the world, making it a main center of trade with some of the best roads and most diverse culture.

The city is built in a horse shoe shape around the harbor with a sharp but fairly small mountain ridge curving around the western edge, partially covered by the city. To the east is a horn shaped plain surrounded by a short section of swamp on the side facing the seas, this peninsula is where most of the city's inhabitants live, a few live in their businesses on the mountainside and a few more on the plains around the city.

The harbor has three major piers and extend almost to the center of the bay but with enough room that large ships can still reach the minor piers between them. The minor piers are privately owned and often used to supply the owner's business . The major piers run as a toll service.

One major road leaves the city, splitting off where appropriate. It is paved with large flat stones and is well kept within a respectable distance but can be quite dangerous, often a caravan will employ teams of skilled warriors to defend against monsters from the forest, thieves, and generally malicious things, which attracts many warriors looking for riches to the Rinon

The streets of Rinon can be perilous, as the many underground guilds patrol them, occasionally requiring pedestrians to pay a toll to keep the streets safe. The constables and lords of the area tend to look towards their own pockets where the guilds are concerned, as long as their deeds are not too far outside the law. Civillians merely work around the guilds and go on their way.

The citizens of Rinon are a sturdy bunch, having survived hurricanes, guild wars, power struggles, famine, and other hardships. They are very devoted to their own, although they rarely turn away travellers with news and coin. They are rough and protective, but can be very friendly as well. Taverns are a necessity to their way of life, and are always filled. As a result, Rinonians are a very musical group, and musicians can be found on every streetcorner and in every inn, singing everything from sea ditties, to popular love songs, to epic ballads of the far north.
Change Log

first sentence, third paragraph: changed build to built
second sentence, fourth paragraph:
changed from "The minor piers are often privately owned and used to supply the owner's business."
to "The minor piers are privately owned and often used to supply the owner's business"
second sentence, third paragraph: removed comma after mountainside

First sentence, third paragraph: changed it's self to itself.

"Ace Sia" was a previous owner of the Ace of Diamonds, full name Sia Irin, she used her Ace to build an empire the likes of Rome, but her Sun Empire collapsed soon after her defeat and very little of it remains. it is customary to address one who owns an Ace by their first name with the title Ace.

Er...what planning exactly do you need? That about sums it up, I think.

Although personally I think the Jungle City should be a very large place, and we could even get away with having a wilder side to it...like pasha's guilds that pay off the local constables to look the other direction while they do imports and whatnot. Dunno if you wanna go that route, but I've read some awesome cities like that. Gives characters lots of messes to get into and lots of tangles to unwravel. Makes GMing very simple.

its not so much planning that we need, just most ideas aren't perfect the first time so we should all throw our opinions at them for a bit, I sort of dont like that i only talked about the physical aspects of the city and not going into any depth about the people, and in the first sentence of the third paragraph i used build instead of built (fixed it), stuff like that. corruption sounds good and realistic, especially with a major trade city.

Hm...well, I dunno if you want me to just start adding stuff to what you've got, so I'll put it here, I suppose... I'm just gonna make up some of this stuff, as you haven't been very specific. If you don't like something, feel free to change it or omit it or whatever!! This is just my take on the people after having read the city description...

I had more, but my brain just died...how am I doing so far?? I've written it so if you like it, you can just pin it to the bottom of what you've already got.

I like it, and I think that gives jungle city/Rinon all the info it needs to get going

So we've been working on the subforum, I think it's getting towards done, most of which we can thank Marael for, but anyways, theres a good chance once I get rid of this headache I'll make an attempt to work on it, and I'm wondering what the rest of yall would like to see in the subforum.

At the moment we have a shopping area, the piers, an open air market, the Red Goblet is planned. The thread we're all RPing in now is gonna stay in the main forum as a convenient entry point for new players. Though I'm not sure what it will be now.

Well, we still need a name...I'm thinking we should build off the Korat name, or perhaps invent some sort of ruin or ancient civilization that it's named after...any thoughts???

That sounds good, and leads me to another point.

We have four species actively entwined into our little world, Humans, Cetan, Korat, and Teroa. First off we should work up a sticky describing them enough that new people aren't limited to human or creating their own race like Dilagence, he did a good job but we can't let that happen to much or we'll have five dozen vaguely described races consisting of one person each.

Secondly we should decide on where they all come from, it's a minor point but my mind got snagged on it.

By what we have it seems that the Korat and the Cetan both come from the soon-to-be-named jungle continent, and humans are newcomers probably originating in the archipelagos. I use new in a relative way, they've probably been there for a thousand or so years but the other two were there since the beginning of their civilizations. They are both ancient civilizations but the jungle continent is an almost eden like world, or at least it was, so they were in no hurry to build cities, invent technologies, or generally work towards a world as we know it.

The Korat and Cetan represented very opposed lifestyles in that kind of world. I see the Korat as being very country folk, only a few real cities but mostly small closely knit tribe like groups. They are a good deal religious, or maybe just very spiritual, ether way they have a lot of faith through which they got very close to nature. The Cetan are highly social and nearly all of them lived in a few major cities, they do have religion and spirituality but in a more pure form, valuing the soul and mind above possessions, even if they do have appreciation for them. Before any major Human population moved over the two races had a highly symbiotic relationship and an especially peaceful one at that.

When the Humans came over the Cetan were very much against them joining the equation but they were up against a weather hardened empire of greed; to add to the calamity they had just gotten themselves into that empire was the predecessor of Ace Sia's Sun Empire and ruled with the same Ace (there seems to be a trend here) and thats what caused the war.

The Teroa I'm not so sure about, Dila can pick that if he wants.

Eventually I'd like to have some race based out of the desert continent and five is probably the limit of reason, I can't think of a good theme for a desert race, one that would let them still be in the rest of the world with out being irrational. They could be related to the crater so they don't have to fit in with the rest of the world's nature but they should be something people can play and not be limited to pets.

After writing all this it is very clear to me that very little of it has to do with the jungle continent...

So, going with naturalistic patriarchal cat people as a theme what sort of name would fit? (comments on everything else please quote the post into the proper thread, if it doesn't exist yet feel free to make it)

For Korat, I actually kinda like Matriarchal better than patriarchal...but that's just me... and as for a name for the Jungle...hm.... we could play with Korat...or we could just do something that sounds cool, and create a ruin or something that it's named after...like Rinon is named after a person. I'm really not good with names, btw. lol. Here are my suggestions:

Korian Jungle
Faliân Jungle (â is made by holding Alt and hitting 131, btw)
Deidar Jungle
Naulen Jungle

...yeah, that's pretty much it...lol

Oh, are you any good at maps?? I think it'd be nice to have a map of Rinon if you know anyone good with them. I suck at maps, unfortunately...
