I just noticed this last night, alot of things in ASoUE come in threes.

3 Baudelaires
3 Quagmires
3 Snickets
3 initials in V.F.D.
3 people on the Quequeg (including whittershins)
the movie is comprised of 3 books.
3 passwords for the venercularly fastened door.
the V.F.D. tree branches off into 3's

If there is anything else and you think this is signifigant post here.

3 people in the hot-air balloon. Three letters in VFD. Umm.. i'll come up with more later. But it is quite evident that Snicket wanted 3 to play a big part in the series.

Jehosaphat
So?

So it is possible that 3's a significant number in the series, maybe for Lemony, who knows.. I didn't realize that before, interesting.

That is possible. There's another author I like who uses 17 alot. It could be his favorite number, it could be because 3 is a really lucky number, or it could hold some other, hidden, signifigance.

Heh, 13 is mine. In case you were wondering, I was referring to Steven Brust. I have to say though, Snickets 3s references are more obvious than those of Brust.

Would everyone agree that 13 is another signifigant number in SOUE? 13 chapters per book, most likely 13 books. There has to be more, but I don't know what.

Well, yeah, thirteen is the unlucky number. Who is Steven Burnst? I've never heard of him. How does he refer to thirteen?

One the tree in Lemony's Autobiography J, K, and L are all together. Jacques, Kit, and Lemony Snicket?

using things in groups of three is a very old literary tactic. it's a magic power number or something. For example: in macbeth there were 3 witches and 3 murders, and probably other groupings.
