Helaku thought his life was painful. His encounter with Amara had helped him feel a little better about mares, and himself, but he still felt distrustful of them, and his heart still ached. He still hurt.
He had no idea how much worse things could get.

Things were getting out of hand, and getting out of hand fast.
Plague grimaced as the gums in his jaw began their sharp waves of pain, the decay and rot of his broken teeth intensifying as the lack of moisture continued to increase in the warm weather. Sharp fangs waited, silently begging for meat to dig into, to relieve the stress and ache of his mouth.
Those damn brats. Shoving his way past tree branch and leaves, the mutant snarled as he made his way through the wooded forest, his mind and thoughts on another matter than his throbbing mouth.
The foals were no longer foals, and they had grown. As their size and intellect increased, so had their rebellion and independence. Tarnish, as he had feared, and been the most rebellious of the three, but Plague would put an end to this nonsense once and for all, when he found his middle child. Taint, the youngest, had gone out of his way to avoid the rest of the family members. In Plague's mind, the frilly stallion was a lost cause to begin with. Only Torment, who had half a brain after all, would on occasion follow orders from her father. That is, whenever he could actually FIND the mare.
His anger was growing with each step. Unless he found Diabetia or one of the children soon, there would be no telling whom or what he'd take out his rage on.

Helaku paid little mind to the smell of decay at first, his mind distracted by his thoughts. He shook a mane that was markedly more free of debris than it had been recently. The shadowy stallion had been leery of letting a mare get so close for even such an innocent task, but no harm had been done.
Stomping a hoof, he shook his head again as the smell of disease forced itself more insistently into his nostrils. Now that he was torn from his thoughts he could also hear the crash of someone or something moving through the woods. Something that didn't know anyone was listening...or didn't care.
"Who is it?" he challenged, suddenly feeling protective of these woods. Too many were wandering near his home, and he didn't want foul beasts like kalona and skinwalkers coming anywhere near it.

He had almost made it to the outskirts of the forest when he heard a loud voice shouting out from within the trees. His rampage quickly ceased as his dark head jerked around to locate where the voice was coming from. Hollow eyes scanned across the trees and plantlife, to fall upon a shadow out in the distance. Damn fool... what did this creature think he was doing, calling him, of all beings, out.
Snorting, heavy hooves drug themselves along a different path, now directed towards the stallion who had the audacity to sidetrack him. Perhaps already, Plague had found a good substitute for his punching bag needs.
He considered calling back out in response to the demanding voice, but he decided to let his appearance give the stallion the answer he was searching for.

A sense of trepidation crept over Helaku as silence reigned for a brief second, before the hoofbeats resumed. This time, it sounded like they weren't only coming closer, but directly at him. The stallion held firm, letting out a loud snort. It would take a bit more than some mind games to make him run.

Pushing back the long branches in his pathway, the shadowy figure soon became a solid and physical stallion. As Plague stepped out from the trees and into the small clearing within the forest, his large black wings spread back, increasing his height to any onlooker.
His dark hooves firmly planted themselves on the ground below, and he let out yet another snort, this time, in return to the gray stallion's.
"Are you as tough as you sound, stallion?" his low voice boomed back at him, baring his fangs. He was more than ready for a fight, in fact, he was wanting one. This would be the perfect outlet for all the excess anger he'd been experiencing for the past few miles. Grinning, he lowered his head, exposing his broken and jagged unicorn horn in the stallion's direction."... because we're about to find out."

It wasn't a kalona. It wasn't a skinwalker. But from the looks of the...creature...that had just entered the clearing, that wasn't any reason to relax. Not at all. Helaku lifted his head high, fixing the other stallion with a glare. Show no fear to a predator, no matter what. "I'm as strong as I need to be. You are not needed or wanted here...I would suggest that you leave." It wasn't likely that the monstrous stallion would leave without a fight, though. He looked like he was just spoiling for one.

"Strong as you need to be?" Plague echoed the comment, unable to hold back a laugh. "Why, even my mare of a son could hold his own against you. Tell me, what can you do to defend yourself?"
It was humoring, but revolting at the same time. This stallion was more foolish than even Diabetia herself! What did he have to fight off predators with... he had no horns, no wings, and by the look of his mouth, no fangs as well. Just a sitting duck, waiting to be devoured.
He took a step closer, his wings spreading wider as he looked on upon the stallion who dared to look him straight in the eye.

Had Helaku been a lion or wolf, he would have bristled at Plague's sneering comments. Gruesome as he might be, he seemed to think mere appearances should force the grey to bow down to him. Well, they wouldn't. Helaku might not have the accoutrements that a kalona or unicorn might have, but he had the natural defenses any equine had. He had his strong blunt teeth, capable of scraping and tearing (even if not as well as fangs). Hooves were also a solid addition to the mix. However, the stallion felt no need to tell Plague any of it. "I don't have to tell you a damn thing," he snorted. "If you're so confident, you'll find out for yourself."

His smirk quickly turned downwards, and the mutant scowled at the stallion. That large mouth of his was continuing to spout off, and it was pissing Plague off more than ever. Combined with the growing headache and pain in his jaw, there was little more that the dark colored stallion could take. First Diabetia stands up against him, then his own children... now, these creatures were going to oppose him as well?!
Letting out a feral growl, the feathered being lunged towards the opposing male, his mouth intent on snatching ahold of the other stallion's shoulder, his demand for flesh and blood growing ever more stronger as his rage increased.

Helaku let out a roar of pain and fury as an unsuccessful dodge resulted in fangs slicing down his shoulder. He struck back with bared teeth, front legs lashing out at the winged stranger. He would teach this taunting, jeering creature not to underestimate those with no wings, horns, or fangs.

Though he was a strong and violent mutant, he was also very slow one.
A pained grunt escaped from between his foul lips as hooves kicked out at him, and it was only seconds later he felt the flat teeth of the grass eater bite down onto his left ear. Had he been any swifter, he might have been able to step away from the opposing attack after his first initial one towards the cocky stallion, but he was not.
Giving a wince as he felt the cartilage in his ear tear, the angered creature shoved into the gray stallion, forcing all of his heavy weight against his as he pushed him in the direction of a nearby tree, with intent of pinning him to it.

Helaku might be tall and quick, but he was more lightly built than his attacker. Feeling his hooves slip out from under him at the monster's shove, the stallion grunted and released his purchase to snap at a wing. He fought to keep on his feet as he did so, knowing that being knocked to the ground could very well be lethal. Now that the battle rage was ignited, Helaku knew that he was not ready to die. Not yet.

Plague let out a hiss as he felt the flat teeth grab hold of one of his large wings, which had fallen forward to protect their owner in case of more flying hooves. His anger grew as he felt the pain in his ear begin to throb, blood seeping downwards, dying itself into his matted hair and onto his face. His untouched wing attempted to push against the stallion's mouth, and Plague's eyes honed in on the bleeding shoulder. Reaching out, he once again aimed for the now bloody target as he continued pushing, more determined than ever as he drew them closer and closer to the thick tree.

Helaku screamed as fangs reached into his shoulder once again, a primal sound of rage and agony. Biting down viciously on his mouthful, he redoubled his efforts to do as much damage as he could to the dark attacker's wing. He struck out with his forelegs as he did so, trying to hook one around the other's legs and tumble him to the ground. Blinded by battle, he never noticed the tree he was being maneuvered towards, but instead fought fiercely on.
