Ok, we are getting close to being able to control the weather. Should Humans have this power? And note that if globle warming gets out of hand there is going to be bigger more powerful storms. And one storm that has not been seen on Earth since it was a water planet, the hypercanes.

Hypercane is like the Big Red Spot came to Earth. A hypercane is a theoretical class of tropical cyclone that could form if ocean temperatures reached around 50° Celsius (122° Fahrenheit). 15° higher than the warmest ocean temperature ever recorded, which could in turn be caused by a large asteroid or comet impact, a large volcanic or supervolcanic eruption, or very extensive global warming. There is some speculation that some dinosaurs might have been killed off by a series of hypercanes, resulting from an asteroid or comet crashing into Earth.

Hypercanes would have wind speeds of over 500 miles per hour,130 m/s, and would also have a central pressure of less than 700 hectopascals, giving them an enormous lifespan. This storm would have been produced by the super heated ocean waters in the asteroid's impact or volcano eruption zone, creating conditions for a storm that would have been the size of North America, with a storm surge of 60+ feet and an eye nearly 200 miles across. The waters would remain hot enough for weeks, allowing more hypercanes to be formed. A Hypercane's clouds would reach 20 miles into the Stratosphere.

Now remember, weather control as well as "weather tampering", are expressly forbidden dating from at least December 10, 1976, when the "United Nations General Assembly Resolution 31/72, TIAS 9614 Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Other Hostile Use of Environmental Modification Techniques" was adopted. The Convention was: Signed in Geneva May 18, 1977; Entered into force October 5, 1978; Ratification by U.S. President December 13, 1979; U.S. ratification deposited at New York January 17, 1980. U.S. Senate Bill 517 and U.S. House Bill 2995 were two laws proposed in 2005 that would have allowed experimental weather modification by artificial methods, established a Weather Modification Operations and Research Board, and implemented a national weather modification policy. Neither ever became enforced law.

Ever since 1998 the US and a few other countries have been trying to get that law erased. Because new technologies and understandings of the weather has been made. We have had some success in not only causing storms but directing them too. They don't even need jets and planes anymore to change the weather. They have found that lazers and microwaves can add heat to or cool down the air if toned right. It the years of 1998-99 there was some odd unusually power storms out of season, the storms happens just after some testing with microwaves aimed at the upper atmosphere to heat up a small spot of it. As a result a number of powerful tornados hit towns and cities to the east of the lab.

Now we are close to the point of directing hurricanes and aiming them. But as long as that law is in place there is not much they can. The U.N. still fears that someone will try to use the weather as a weapon again, which is why they made the law in the first place. In truth they see weather control in much the same way as nuclear arms. And rightfully so, because if the weather gets out of hand it can tagger another mass extinction event, and no one is sure if humans can live thought another event like that.

hmm thats is a nice idea, i reckon it should be made legal. Over here is Australia, and a few other places, we have cloud seeding, sometimes this works, and produces rain and storms when the humidity and heat are fairly high.

An interesting concept that i will watch as i get older razz

We should only try the small stuff. If we get the power to control it, somehow there will be a recoil. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction... this applies to more than physics. It applies to all human actions, whether short or long term.
