[Tis a work in progress....I did this like 3 years ago for a school project.]

Mystery

Prologue:
Naota Takahashi is pretty much like any normal 16 year-old boy. He is 5’11” tall, has short scruffy black hair that he covers with a Black baseball cap, and has a band-aid on his left knee. He attends school, plays sports, and has a job. But his job isn’t normal a job for a 16 year-old. He is a detective for the city and his current case is to track down an arsonist codenamed “Molotov” that has been setting fires in various places throughout the city.

Ch.1:
December was to be a joyful and peaceful month in the city, until the old abandoned warehouse was set on fire. Naota left his home as soon as he heard it over the radio. When he arrived at the warehouse the police had already set up boundaries and were begging to search the ashes. Naota walked under the yellow precaution tape and was about the go search for clues when he was stopped by the police chief.
“No civilians past the tape please” the Chief said. Naota moved the cap so the bill was in the back and the chief could see his face.
“Oh, sorry Naota go on ahead” he said as he moved out of the boy’s way.
“Thanks” Naota said as he put on a plastic glove and began to search for clues. The chief followed him and made sure that he stayed safe since he was still a minor.
“The only things my boys have been able to find are the burnt remains of whatever was in this old warehouse” the Chief said.
“Do you know who owned this warehouse” Naota asked as he began sifting through the ashes.
“I believe Mr. Glenn does” the chief said.
“Have him call the station later so we can ask him some questions. He may be able to give us a lead.” As Naota searched through the ashes he found several pieces of broken glass.
“Molotov…” he said under his breath.
“What?” the chief asked.
“It was Molotov. He set fire to the warehouse, but why?” Naota said. “Have these taken to the station for analysis see if there are any traces of alcohol or flammable substances on them.” Naota said as he put the piece of glass in a plastic bag and handed them to the chief. Naota then got up, brushed himself of and began to walk off.
“Where are you going?” the chief asked.
“I have school, but I will be back to help afterwards.” Naota said as he got on his skateboard and headed to school. He arrived at school just as the bell rang.
“Dang…” he said as he put his skateboard in his locker and ran to class. He entered his classroom and sat in his seat.
“Late again I see, Mr. Takahashi” Mrs. Clements, the teacher, said.
“But Mrs. Clements I was at work” Naota explained.
“That is no excuse many of the other children have jobs as well, and they get here on time. So should you too. Now open your book to page 215 and begin reading about Ancient Japan.” Mrs. Clements said as she sat at her desk and began to play solitaire on her computer. Naota opened his book and acted like he was reading, but he was actually working on his case on his palm pilot. He had a map of the city pulled up and had marked where there had been fires set in the last month. So far the only places were the old school, a deserted town house, an old fruit barn, and now the warehouse.
“Why were only these places set on fire?” Naota thought. He put his palm pilot away and began to look around the room. A few of the kids were reading, the others were sleeping, or passing notes, or doing homework that they hadn’t finished. Then Naota noticed that one of the kids was missing. It was a girl named Yukiko.
“She is probably sick” Naota thought to himself and then went on to do his work. Several hours later the bell rang and all of the kids packed up their belongings and headed out the door to home. Naota headed to the police station to help with the investigation. When he arrived at the station a police man greeted him a guided him to the Lab.
“You were right Naota; the glass did have some traces of flammable materials.” The man said.
“So it was Molotov, alright then, keep up the good work” Naota said as he headed to the Chief’s office. When entered the office the chief was on the phone talking to someone. The chief hung up the phone after a few minutes.
“That was Mr. Glen. He told me that the warehouse was used to store various things for his store. But he emptied into a new warehouse not to long ago, so all that was in it was empty crates and barrels. He said that it was going too demolished soon, but he is confused as to why someone would burn it down.” the Chief said as he ruffled through some papers on his desk placing green Post-It notes on some of them.
“Ok that clears up some of my questions. By the way take a look at this” Naota said as he pulled out his palm pilot and showed the chief the map.
“I drew lines from each of the fires to the others and they seem to almost form a type of pattern.” Naota said.
“Your right, but it seems it is missing a point or two.” The chief said.
“Exactly so we have an idea as to where Molotov might strike next.” Naota said as he circled two areas on the map.
“Post as many men as you can in these areas and have them patrol the streets looking for any signs of a fire. I will be there as well but I have a plan of my own. Just make sure that if I call in that I will have some backup.” Naota said as he began to walk out of the office.
“Just be careful, ok Naota?” the Chief said.
“Maybe…” Naota said grinning as he left the station and headed home. When Naota arrived home he noticed that one of his lights was on. He opened the door slowly and quietly and walked into the lighted the lighted room. When he entered the room he grabbed his sheath knife from under a coffee table. Then he noticed that a girl was sitting in the chair at his desk.
“Hello?” Naota said to the stranger as he stepped slowly towards the girl.
“Hello detective Naota” the girl said as she turned around to face him.
“I have been waiting for you.” It was Yukiko the girl that was missing from school that day.
“What are you doing here Yukiko?” Naota asked.
“I came to confess Naota. I am the one who has been setting the fires. I am Molotov” she said as she sat there staring at him.
“You…but why did you do it?” Naota asked.
“Because it was my fathers last wish before he died. He was the original Molotov and when he died in one of his fires my mother gave me a letter he wrote to me. In the letter he told me to do this. I even tried to only burn down places that were abandoned. But I don’t want to do it anymore. I’m tired of setting fires.” She said and she started to cry.
“Are you going to arrest me now?” she asked. Naota stood there thought for a second.
“No, you confessed and you were just fulfilling you father’s wish. If you want, I will finish it for you.” Naota said as he sat down next to her.
“Thank you Naota.” she said as she jumped up and hugged him.
“Hey, everything will be ok.” Naota said as he wiped the tears from her eyes.
“But right now I have a job to do.” Naota went to the door and looked back at Yukiko one last time before he ran out of the house and headed to the last point, another old school.

Loners

As the pale moon rises,
In the evercganging sky.
And the lights in every house fade away.
We come out to play.
We are the rejects, the outcasts,
The people no one wants.
We come out to play.
As the lights in every house begin to fade.
Under the everchanging sky,
As the pale moon rises

Seems interesting but it's a bit hard on the eyes to read.. maybe try separating it into paragraphs. I think it will help. smile
