A more-or-less realistic RP (coughLiescough), taking place in what would generally be considered "modern times," with magic. Tons of magic.

You will have "One and a half characters" in that you have a main character, as well as the soul of a magic-user who can communicate only with your main character.

Intro follows. Check the next post or skim the topic.

WARNING! Cabal is entering its endphase soon and will not be accepting new players until its sequel, Twenty-seven, is made.

This is being moved into the 27 subforum as a reference for those with lots of time and nothing to do for days.

~The Beginning~

Arturo strode down the poorly-paved dirt road, enjoying the feel of the cool breeze in his hair. No torch lit his way in the dark of night. A dim glow around his eyes was all that could be seen of him; they had to be left alone by his light-bending Chameleonic spell for his Eye of Darkness to function. The artifact was around his neck for use as a focus of energy… but more importantly at the moment, it also enhanced his senses, allowing him to see in the inky darkness. Sight, however, was not all that improved. He could almost taste the dark magic in the air. For an innocent soul, it would only be felt as a vague oppression of sorts, an intangible hostility.

Arturo was not an innocent. He would’ve never left Italy for this if he were. He could see the currents of malevolence eddying in the air around him; he could smell it: fear and anger, malice and despair, drifting around him in a miasma of corruption. He could hear, at the edge of his awareness, a thousand screaming souls in unimaginable agony.

The sound brought a smile to his lips.

He followed it to his source, a small, decrepit shack in what he would only describe as the “Middle of ******** nowhere.” He peeked through the barely-open door. Four people, wrapped and hooded in black robes, were around a circular marble table with an open lamp in the middle.

“I see you followed the summons,” the nearest one said. It seemed as though five people were growling it out in unison, yet it was unmistakably only him talking. It also seemed that his Chameleonic spell was ineffectual to that man. Judging by the somewhat surprised reactions of the others, they hadn’t seen him.

“Yes,” Arturo said, uncertain of what exactly was to come after. He just decided to state his true feelings on the matter. “I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been thoroughly persecuted, and there is always strength in numbers.”

“Indeed,” Multi-voice agreed. “Not as safe of a world for Warlocks any more. People are getting better at differentiating between those who use magic for others, and those who use it for themselves... but tell us, you are Arturo the Hellfire?”

“Yes. He who drops fireballs on people, blah, blah, blah. Who are you?”

“Your insolence will be forgiven, for now. Let it be sufficient to say…” Multi-voice pulled back his hood and showed a face that seemed to be featureless – utterly forgettable in every sense of the word. It then seemed to simultaneously have and not have a thousand different qualities. A million voices continued, “We are Legion, for We are Many.”

Arturo’s jaw dropped. Legion was legendary. The scourge of France. Legend had it he’d been a white mage until his family was killed by French soldiers, and in his desire for revenge he had let a million demons into his soul.

“I am honored by your presence, Legion,” Arturo murmured, awestruck. Legion was something of an idol for Arturo. Legion had defined evil, had defined powerful, had defined cunning and skilled and untouchable. He was everything Arturo had ever strived to be.

“Thank you. But sit down,” Legion said. Arturo obeyed, his Chameleonic spell unraveling as he approached the chair. Legion continued, “Now. We wait for the others.” Arturo glanced around the room – it was clearly not in Britain any more. It had ceased to be Britain the second he was in the shack. Looking out the door, he saw only a cloud of impenetrable malevolence. He shuddered with pleasure as he took some of it in with a deep breath.

He looked around – at some point, when he hadn’t been looking, the floor had turned from dirt to marble, and the walls from rotting wood to decorated stone. The ceiling had gone out of sight, arches barely starting to approach each other as they were lost in darkness. He concealed his shock at the realization that this had all just happened – no sudden transition, but a subtle removal of the previous appearance for this one.

“Ah! I forgot one thing,” Legion abruptly broke out, causing the others to jump. “Get a black cloak from the box over there and get the hood on.”

Arturo did so, then sat, crossed his arms, and waited.

~~ On this day, The Cabal was born. Hundreds of the most powerful Warlocks from across the world traveled to inconspicuous buildings that linked them to the site where they formed their protective group. As hunters of those who use magic for evil terminated Warlocks one at a time, these ones – the smartest, strongest, most skilled and most wise Warlocks each took an amulet. If a Warlock channeled energy through it, all the others would be warned, gaining instant knowledge of the situation. If another channeled energy into theirs in response, they would be brought there to assist. They survived like that for longer than the average Warlock’s entire lifespan.

Eventually, however, they made enemies of a band of Warlock hunters. Many scouts were paid very well in the subsequent decade, as a massive search for them began. Eventually, one was followed to one of their monthly meetings.

The subsequent raid was unspeakably bloody. Every Warlock was slain.

Supposedly. ~~

~About two years before the raid~

“Good evening, everyone,” Legion greeted, standing on the table as hundreds of cloaked figures gave him their undivided attention. He had been the de facto leader for most of The Cabal’s existence. He was the most famous, easily the wisest and the most powerful, and most importantly, The Cabal had been his idea. He continued, “It has come to my attention that we’ve angered some people with our mass-killings. Now, the purpose of the cabal is to ensure each of us is safe. We have a problem.”

Everyone was silent as he paused. Hundreds of Warlocks hung onto every word he said.

“We cannot make an untraceable teleport. It just doesn’t work. And while black magic is undeniably strong… after all, why else would we pursue it? Anyway. It has its weaknesses. It can’t do everything. And if they should ever take advantage of this effectively, we will be, pardon my phrasing, knee-deep in our own s**t and blood. In addition to that, they may have found a number of magical weapons, including the Oathkeeper and the Divine Punisher. To this end, I’ve been researching a spell of remarkable usefulness, though I haven’t tested it yet for reasons that will become clear.

“It will require that every person here have progeny. I am aware that many of you detest the idea of children. It is, forgive my terminology, a necessary evil.” The Warlocks laughed. “I am also aware that a number of you cannot have children. If that is the case, I am sorry, but that makes this spell useless to you. It requires successors to your bloodline.

“You see, this spell will allow you to fling your soul forward in time to a descendant, and lie dormant within them until the time is right. I suggest something in the order of five to eight hundred years.”

A murmur passed through the crowd.

“In that much time,” Legion continued, “Our enemies will have forgotten us. Not all of us will make it. Some of us will have our bloodlines exterminated, others may be taken by surprise and killed before we can launch our soul. Some of us will probably carry the spell out with minor, but fatal, errors. But some of us will live on. After all, that’s what we’re all about. Continuing to live.”

He jumped down from the table and shuffled towards the door.

“We won’t have contact with each other for most of ourselves’ new lives. It will be difficult to gather again. But we will. Anyway! I think it’s time we left, if no other issues exist. I will distribute instructions for this spell’s execution at the next gathering. We’re making it a shorter wait. Twenty-eight days instead of the usual thirty.” He stopped in front of the door and turned around. “The Warlock’s Protective Cabal is dismissed.”

He walked out door and disappeared in its energies.

~Now~

It’s been several hundred years. The world has forgotten magic as the Churches suppressed its use. The turn of the millennium was observed by an unknown number of the Warlocks, whose souls all landed in the 1900s. The souls inhabit bodies ranging from ages sixteen to sixty, of all races and all walks of life. Objects of power have been passed down as heirlooms, but not all have found their ways to the proper descendant. Some went to descendants not favored by the necromantic spell, leaving the true successor to the Warlock without it.

The successors run the full range of human existence, and even the manifestation of the soul of an ancient evil can’t overpower who they are most of the time. Add to that the fact that many of the Warlocks, no matter their power or skill in their evil arts, were not truly bad people in the core of their being (regardless of babies killed/skinned/eaten [and the order those actions may have taken place in]).

The plan was discovered in the looting of one of their homes, when enchantments that would annihilate a journal were deftly removed without harming that contents. And so, weapons such as the legendary blade Oathkeeper, the hammer Divine Punisher, and the gauntlets known as the Titan’s Fists, have been passed down from generation to generation, and a number of families have dedicated themselves to preventing a rise to power by their ancestors’ nemeses. Some strayed from the path, seeing it as a fool’s task to pass down all the knowledge of fighting and magic necessary to combat them at their fool strength for what may not have even been real. Others, however, have stayed true.

Some of the successors to the Warlocks have embraced the nature of their soul, and have already begun seeking to regain their knowledge of magic.

Others have decided their ancestors were at fault, denied that their soul was evil, and begun to learn to use their magic for good.

A few want no part of it, though they do not deny their nature.

Some have denied it completely, insisting they are who they always were. How long that will last remains to be seen.

~~Profile Format (Include all of this part that is between the “--” lines)~~

--

Gaia Name: (I truly hope this needs no explanation)

Primary Character

Character Name: (Remember, these are modern-day names)
Gender: (In the case of ambiguous names)
Age: (16 to 60)
Race: (The name should make sense for the race. THIS IS NOT SPECIES, IT IS MORE ALONG THE LINES OF ETHNICITY OR NATIONALITY. ALL CHARACTERS ARE HUMAN.)
Current Occupation: (The souls of the Warlocks are just beginning to manifest, so most of them will have ordinary jobs)
Skills: (Not necessarily too close to occupation. There could be an accountant who does Tae Kwon Do as a hobby, for instance)
Relationship/Marital Status: (Not much to say here)
Physical Description: (No cop-outs with pictures here. DESCRIBE it. If you are going to put a picture, you had better have made it yourself)
Personality: (What kind of person is your character, before manifestation of the Warlock Soul? Remember, even the Warlock Soul doesn’t change the personality of your character, because it’s been partly shaping your character’s development their whole life)
Biography: (The Story So Far. What’s happened in your character’s life to make them who they are now?)
Location: (… Where are they? What more is there to say?)
View of Soul: (How do they see their Warlock Soul? Have they embraced evil, chosen good, remained neutral, denied it altogether?)

Warlock Soul

Name: (Well… duh.)
Skills: (What was the old soul good at? Remember, the Cabal was born in roughly the 1200s or 1300s, so no European will have been good at Ju Jitsu or Kendo, etc. Account for location!)
Personality: (What’s the Warlock Soul like?)
Primary Discipline: (The Disciplines are Elementalist [Manipulator of the Four Classical Elements, Earth/Wind/Fire/Water], Necromancer [… Necromancer], Demoniac [Demon Summoner], and Shadow [Manipulator of light to create darkness or concealment])
Secondary Discipline: (See above for details, yeah? Also, a Secondary-only Discipline is Enchanter [Fragments their soul to put small amounts of it into objects, which then are able to levitate and move around, at the will of the Warlock. They can also be imbued with small quantities of power in the vein of their primary discipline {Such as a blade that devours light, an arrow that kills and zombifies its victim, or a glove that can drain heat from what it touches}])
Preferred Magic Style: (Choose a magic style: Evoker [Quick-and-Dirty] or Thaumaturge [Master plans and such. You can do a lot of stuff to someone with a bit of their hair or blood, but you’re not so good at, say, throwing a shield out when someone unloads an Uzi at you. However, you’re more likely to have prepared some sort of focus that will allow you to call up a shield you readied earlier])
Corruption Level: (A number ranging from 10 to negative 10. The higher the number, the more inherently evil your character is. Legion, for instance, is a 10. His soul really is full of demons.)
VERY BRIEF Biography: (Why is the Warlock Soul like it is? Should include a couple of major events and why they became a Warlock)

--

Alternative Disciplines for Good characters include Healer, Wielder of Light (And yes, that does include use of lasers, though they’re relatively ineffective…), and channeling of minor amounts of divine power (Channeler. Don’t underestimate it. Josh is one).

PM the completed form to me. I’ll PM you back and put it under the accepted profiles post if it’s okay. If it isn’t, I’ll PM you back with advice.
Trust me, I want you to succeed and join this RP, but I will not tolerate poorly thought-out profiles. If your profile, in some way, doesn’t make sense, I’ll tell you why.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2007 1:50 pm

Rules:

1) Follow the goddamn ToS. I mean, come on. I shouldn’t have to say this. Gaia is PG-13, ergo this RP is PG-13.
2) Fighting is realistic. Guns kill people. If you want to take a gunshot, you had better have prepped a shield in advance (or be an Evoker). Knives kill people. If you get stabbed badly enough, or if you get sliced up and don’t go to a hospital, you will suffer for it – probably even die.
3) Freakin’ literacy! Chat-speak is the number-one cause of violent deaths in this RP, got it? Occasional grammatical or spelling errors are tolerable, but if it becomes annoying to me, your character will suffer for it. There were hundreds of Warlocks, we can afford to knock off those who can’t type like civilized people.
4) All narration WILL BE IN THE THIRD PERSON PAST TENSE.
5) Exercise good judgment about whether something works. If I repost your post with a different outcome, it’s because you did something that shouldn’t have worked.
6) I can decide who lives and dies, as well as who succeeds or fails. Believe me, I won’t abuse this and I won’t drag you around by the ears.
7) You will capitalize your posts as appropriate.

The RP begins with your character’s Warlock Soul awakening and making contact with your character. The Warlock Soul is a mostly-separate entity that is fully capable of conversation with your character’s primary personality (and nobody else).
Your character will be subsequently contacted by Legion.
More likely than not, Warlock hunters will begin tracking you when your Warlock Soul awakens. Be careful around them.

--

Advice:

Don’t piss off characters much stronger than you without a ridiculously good plan.
Don’t do something you yourself wouldn’t do in that situation. People who are too dumb to live… WILL DIE. You have been warned. Each PC gets one save from death, and then they're on their own.
Always remember, guns kill people. Or if you prefer, people with guns kill people.
People with magic are still best off doing what people with guns demand. Honestly.
Warlock hunters haven’t been earning their titles for generations, but they’re still a big danger - not the biggest fish in the pond, but nothing to scoff at either.
Your magic won’t be too great at the start. You’ll want to practice it to get it to at least a decent level.
Bad luck is inversely proportional to knowledge and application of the English language.
Remember that all of your actions will have consequences.
You need not choose any side other than "yourself."
Have fun. Seriously.

~~ACCEPTED PROFILES~~

*Just so you know, I will control the starting holders of Oathkeeper, Divine Punisher (once it's actually brought in), and the Titan's Fists, as well as Legion and Arturo's modern incarnations. I am also the only one controlling non-warlocks. Unless you ask me special-nice and have been playing a Warlock well for a while.

*Legion is an exception to many rules seeing as how he's basically the most powerful mortal you'll ever see. Probably. He also has exceptions on appearance (you'll know why if you read the intro) and on a lot of the "Primary character" thing since Legion is almost entirely "Undiluted" from his soul-throwing. Legion is just that good.

Venom3001
Primary Character
Character Name: Legion (Legion is an exception to the normal conventions, often)
Gender: Male (usually)
Age: 60
Race: Inconsistent
Current Occupation: N/A
Skills: N/A
Relationship/Marital Status: Single (Legion's manifestation involved the prompt deaths of a wife and two kids)
Physical Description: N/A
Personality: N/A
Biography: N/A - When Legion's soul manifested, it wiped out its host completely, resulting in loss of all its host's qualities
Location: Los Angeles
View of Soul: Dominated (Normally not an option. Legion's soul has entirely overpowered his host and taken complete control.

Warlock Soul

Name: Legion
Skills: Legion is skilled at use of a knife or a staff (and not both at the same time sweatdrop ), as well as knowing how to dodge attacks and such without hurting himself as much or more. In addition, his magic defense is considered to be on a whole different level from any other creature the universe has encountered
Personality: Legion is more vicious than some people can conceive. He can suffocate a lesser person in a miasma of his own malice, forcing his malevolence into them so forcefully they literally cannot take a breath. That's how evil and cruel Legion is. He revels in suffering and death.
Having a soul full of demons does that to people.
Primary Discipline: Legion has equal (godlike) skill in all areas.
Secondary Discipline: Enchanter
Preferred Magic Style: Legion is a thaumaturge, but is also a highly competent evoker, and though not to the same degree of skill as his thaumaturgy, his evocations are still powerful and fast.
Corruption Level: Like I said. Legion defines pure evil. 10

Biography:
Legion was born in England, a good thirty or so years before one of the country's many clashes with France. He worked mostly as a healer for English soldiers, but would often help the French prisoners as well - he was as kindhearted a person as anyone could ask for, largely due to the teachings of his parents. When he was entrusted with the care of a particularly important French captive, an officer from whom information was needed, the Frenchman was able to fake worse condition than he was really in, and escaped one night, taking the family of He Who Would Become Legion with him as hostages. He Who Would Become Legion pursued him.

The Frenchman killed the family of He Who Would Become Legion with a medical tool just before leaving with a French party who would remove him from the country. He Who Would Become Legion arrived shortly after. When he saw that a tool meant for healing had been used to cause death, something snapped. He recalled everything he'd ever been warned away from in magic - namely pacts with demons for power, and the fact that power often damages one's soul.

One million demons rushed into his soul, and Legion released a multi-voiced howl of anguish heard for miles.

He slaughtered the French party with corrupted healing magic, using the same flow of magic he used to seal a wound to tear skin, muscles, and organs open.

He went on to terrorize France, killing people in enormous numbers and the like, slaying any who stood against him effortlessly. His heart had been corrupted over time, like a tree rotting from the inside out. Now, rather than just revenge on the French for one single man's desperate act, he sought general mayhem and chaos.

Thus, the Warlock's Protective Cabal. An organization where he did almost all the work and claimed it was spread out amongst others (often illusions created by manifesting a demon briefly out of his body to hold the black cloak up). It was like Boy Scouts for Evildoers. Start doing things that are more and more evil, srw chaos and destruction. Rape. Pillage. Burn. Destroy.

He sacrificed five hundred people at once to get the secret of the soul-displacement spell from a demon, and almost a thousand more to ensure that certain favorites would be able to use it, as well as a promise of another thousand if he and all of his favorites arrived in their future zone safely. The others could make it successfully if they were good enough, but would receive no special help.

When Legion manifested in the present day, he contacted said demon and now is informed of each soul's arrival. The sacrifices were his host's previously mentioned wife and two kids.

Legion, to be sure, is a dedicated villain, and he enjoys it to the depths of his black, corrupted, rotting heart.

Primary Character
Character Name: Linda Nicosia
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Race: Italian
Current Occupation: High School Senior
Skills: A true photographic memory, mixed martial arts (Ju Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Bokkendo), and parkour.
Relationship/Marital Status: Single and slightly flirtatious (much to Arturo's recent annoyance)
Physical Description: Linda has olive skin, dark hair, and green eyes. She's approximately 5'7", and while she would never tell you, she weighs about 135 pounds. A good portion of that is muscle. She isn't particularly well-endowed, for which she blames martial arts and parkour, though she could never bring herself to quite those just for her appearance.
Personality: Linda is actually somewhat naive; she is too quick to believe people. Arturo is jealous of her innocence and ability to have a fun-loving personality. Arturo also compensates for her trustfulness by advising her about nearly everyone, "He's probably lying."
Biography: Linda was born to the children of Italian immigrants. She had a relatively normal childhood with one exception, she had been labeled "Innuendo-ally challenged" by her friends since she started high school, due to her lack of knowledge on... a lot of things. Over the course of the next few years, she learned most of what there was to know (and a lot of things one is better off not knowing) on the subject. She had also begun taking multiple martial arts and started to do parkour (three years of experience at this point) at the behest of a friend.

Early into the school year, Linda was watching the news with a couple of her friends, there was a report on a Los Angeles man who had disappeared less than an hour after the deaths of his wife and kids, who had all been burned alive. Descriptions of the man (or woman) leaving the crime scene were inconsistent.
"I think I know him," Arturo commented to Linda, initiating their first contact. Linda told her friends she had to go to the bathroom and responded to him.
One long, strange argument in the bathroom later, Arturo had agreed that he could help defeat Legion, and Linda offered a compromise - if others would be willing to join with them, Arturo would fight Legion with them. If not, Linda and Arturo would settle down, neither resisting nor joining him.
Location: Gilroy, California
View of Soul: Linda is highly amused that she actually seems to have un-corrupted Arturo, instead of the reverse happening to her

Warlock Soul

Name: Arturo Trapani
Skills: Arturo's skills are glass-blowing, gem-carving, and smithing, all skills he self-taught with stolen or borrowed goods for making his own thaumaturgic foci.
Personality: Arturo has intensely skewed morality due to his upbringing; he is incapable of feeling compassion, and it seems he's almost unable to understand the concept of it. He's slightly masochistic, respects power above all else, and is more likely than not a little unhinged. It's fairly easy to manipulate him.
Primary Discipline: Shadow
Secondary Discipline: Enchanter
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge to the max. He's just short of incapable of evocation.
Corruption Level: 0
VERY BRIEF Biography: Arturo was abandoned at birth and raised as an apprentice to an evil witch. A real witch, not metaphorical. This bestowed upon him the previously mentioned skewed morality. When some warlock hunters came for his master, he cloaked himself with a pre-made spell and hid in a corner; the warlock hunters dispatched his master effortless but overlooked him, making him realize how inadequate and weak he and his master had been. He realized that he was hopeless at evocation (something for which his old master berated him unceasingly) and turned instead to mastery of thaumaturgy.

Years later:
He discovered the hunters who got his old master were coming for him shortly before he was contacted by Legion (though he didn't yet know who it was). He traveled all the way to England, buying his way there by assisting smiths and glassblowers for money (or more often, food), improving his still-inadequate skills (in his opinion) for those crafts.

He successfully used Legion's spell and, much to his regret, found himself in the body of a female descendant.

Primary Character
Character Name: Takeshi Watanabe (Proper order would be Watanabe Takeshi, but... meh)
Gender: Male
Age: 37
Race: Japanese
Current Occupation: Yakuza hitman
Skills: Building-climbing, parkour, use of handguns (Especially the Heckler & Koch USP), basic skill with several other guns (with somewhat unreliable accuracy), use of knives (especially switchblades), lock-picking, use of makeup to change his appearance. He has also trained himself to be ambidextrous, but was originally left-handed. He is a proficient speaker of both Japanese and English, and he can understand (but not speak) Mandarin Chinese
Relationship/Marital Status: Single
Physical Description: 5'8'', spiked black hair, brown eyes, slender but well-muscled. The little finger of his left hand is missing two joints. His bicep is pockmarked from needles.
Personality: Takeshi is a twisted, sadomasochistic, drug-addicted murderer and part-time rapist - the worst of the worst. It seems that he was more susceptible to his Warlock Soul's designs for him than many others were. He displays at least slight tendencies towards necrophilia.
Biography: From an early age, Takeshi showed tendency towards cruelty; he would tears insects apart, microwave fish, the like. Animals (that could escape) would never let him approach them, and people were always a little put off by his presence. He made his way into the Yakuza during his high school years as a thug, but his creativity with death - which he views as an art - combined with the skills he'd been training in entering buildings to earn him his dream job - a hitman, sending bloody and artistic messages to those foolish enough to oppose his employers. The finger joints were taken as "penance" from occasions when he killed other members of the Yakuza out of anger while he was high and armed.

Several years ago, he was sent to San Francisco for an overseas hit, and has informed his superiors he's staying there for a "vacation until [his] savings run dry." His Warlock Soul contacted him while he was carving up someone - Takeshi reacted immediately to the promise of power that would elevate him above everyone else.

Takeshi was a regular user of Speed, Heroine, and PCP. He takes E occasionally, but infrequently. Legion has altered his brain chemistry to remove his addictions.
Location: San Francisco
View of Soul: Takeshi has embraced his Warlock Soul wholeheartedly, which is unsurprising, considering...

Warlock Soul
Name: Haru Shimizu (Proper order is Shimizu Haru, really, but as I said before... meh)
Skills: Use of a katana and wakizashi, tending of slight wounds, unarmed combat, and fighting in a very dirty manner.
Personality: Haru is cruel and cunning; he is intelligent and vicious. He is intensely proud of how he found Takeshi, if that says anything. He shares many traits with Takeshi (namely necrophilia, which has a lot to do with his primary discipline)
Primary Discipline: Necromancer
Secondary Discipline: Elementalist
Preferred Magic Style: Evoker
Corruption Level: 7
VERY BRIEF Biography: Haru was a ronin in feudal Japan; he was called a disgrace to the name samurai, as he was dishonorable to extreme levels. This, however, gave him substantial longevity. His status as a Warlock is almost entirely due to his necrophilia (a trait he was elated to find Takeshi shared). Legion, while scouting for the Cabal after its creation, seeking to round out its roster with more variance of skills and abilities, took a liking to the skilled-but-twisted swordman and invited him. He was one of the favorites Legion had insured.

SirBayer
Primary Character
Character Name: Paul McCulloch
Gender: Male. Durh.
Age: 23
Race: Caucasian
Current Occupation: Works on a firing range, one of the largest in the world. (I know it exists, because this person is not-so-vaguely based on my brother.)
Skills: Paul is rather good at shooting things, at a fair distance or not. He's also a reasonably skilled melee fighter, although he has no formal training in any martial art.
Relationship/Marital Status: Married.
Physical Description:Paul is a tall guy; he stands at about 6’ 2”. He’s of a somewhat above average build, and years of keeping in good shape (if not working out) have made him surprisingly strong. Although he has no bulging muscles to show for it, the strength is there, under the skin. His hair is dark brown, but shaved too close to his scalp for the color to be particularly identifiable. His eyes are a shade of blue, and reflect the intelligence behind them. He also wears a pair of thin, rimless glasses to correct mild vision problems.

As clothing goes, he tends to be pretty casual about it, and tends to wear a lot of T-shirts and shorts (although that’s also partially a product of where he lives.). The large majority of his T-shirts bear a logo involving a skull or a firearm, almost inevitably. For headwear, he favors baseball caps and boonie hats, but does have a wide variety.
Personality: Paul is without a doubt friendly. He feels it is a duty to befriend the friendless, and he can't help but think the best of everything. Despite being both optimistic and cheerful, he isn't exploding with them; he doesn't even show it much. He mostly remains in a state of vague good humor, enjoying life as a whole.
Biography: Most of the interesting parts of Paul's life occurred in middle/high school. School taught him something they never thought they would: how to fight. Thanks to a few mistakes on his part, he got in with the wrong people, ending in fights for non-existent drugs, completely random fights for his life (reference to the time a hobo stabbed him in the leg, which he responded to by stabbing the hobo back), and any other number of situations in which people had ill will for him. He also learned how to avoid exactly the mess he pushed himself into, from which he grew into a far more careful man.

For a long time, he lived a happy, married life in Mesa, unaware of the warlock. In the interest of its own survival, his warlock decided to save Paul when a client at the range nearly accidentally shot him. Aware that someone had spoken to him, he excused himself and struck up a conversation with that strange someone. The someone explained who he was, how he came to be there, and that he suspected the someone named Legion would be reappearing soon enough, threatening to begin his reign of terror again. Of course, Paul couldn't just up and leave; Melissa (his wife), although she worked, didn't make enough money alone. So Paul came up with an excuse: a vacation to Las Vegas to investigate.
Location: Las Vegas
View of Soul: Paul knows as well as his warlock that they are both good men at heart, really unwilling to rejoin Legion's legions.

Warlock Soul
Name: Robert McCullough
Skills: Robert initially might not seem to have any spectacular skills, but he’s got a knack for determining where his opponent might be weak.
Personality: Robert is calm. Very calm. He tends to view things in a fairly neutral light, although he takes a particular liking to some of the nicer qualities of humanity. His patience is incredible, something that creates a particular degree of disinterestedness within him. It’s hard for him to care much about things, major or otherwise.
Primary Discipline: Elementalist
Secondary Discipline: Shadow
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge
Corruption Level: -4
VERY BRIEF Biography: Robert was a Scottish man. Not much else can be said for his young life; he lived it mostly as a farmer. Ironically, it was this lack of action that gave him his patience, and it was this patience that gave him his skill.

He was introduced to the Cabal by a friend who saw potential in him, helped him by secretly training him a little, then presented him to the Cabal, who miraculously accepted him. It was this skill and patience that allowed him to perform the soul-skip, living on through generations of McCulloughs, even when their name changed from its proper spelling.

Hand_of_Eru
Primary Character
Character Name: Erik Wikk
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Race: European Mutt, the one thing that can be said is that he is pale
Current Occupation: Avoiding his school
Skills: Learns very quickly
Relationship/Marital Status: Single with no interest in women
Physical Description: Short, pale, and skinny, his one redeeming feature is his hair, which is a sandy blonde that seems to shine even though he takes no care of it. He has brown eyes and stands at a paltry 5'4". Erik has always loved the color black, and wears it even though he hates to look like those who call themselves "Goth".
Personality: Self-absorbed is the best way to describe Erik. He rarely cares about or even notices what's going on around him.
Biography: Erik has a mother, if you can call her that. He doesn't. He calls her Lucy. Lucy is unmarried but rarely single. Men last anywhere from a night to a couple weeks if they're lucky. She deeply regrets having Erik and has never talked to him about his father. She is compelled by Christian upbringing to feed and clothe him, but provides little else. Erik looks after himself, and has convinced himself he likes it that way. He always loved school, but recently he'd taken to not going. He could learn as much from books and lately the other boys had been getting bolder in their taunting and bullying. He'd been beaten up twice before he completely stopped going. In fact, the only people who liked him were the librarians at the nearby library.

Tomas' first contact with Erik was during an ordinary evening meal. Erik had cut himself slightly while slicing up his cold chicken from KFC. As he stood transfixed by the tiny streak of blood, Tomas had commented, "Beautiful, isn't it." Erik merely nodded and continued eating. Their first real conversation came the next day.
Location: San Diego, California
View of Soul: Erik is interested. He enjoys conversing with Uther, especially when he can get information out of him. The idea of harboring a soul from the Dark Ages is the closest anything has ever come to making Erik happy.

Warlock Soul
Name: Tomas Griswald (pronounced Grisvald)
Skills: Tomas is proficient with spear and bow, and has a knowledge of military tactics in the Dark Ages
Personality: Tomas is vain and quick to anger. His descendant's appearance disgusts him to no end, but he appreciates his aptitude. Tomas derives joy in life from beauty, from the charms of a young woman to the pattern of her blood as it spills from her body.
Primary Discipline: Demoniac
Secondary Discipline: Shadow
Preferred Magic Style: Evoker
Corruption Level: 5
Biography: Tomas had been a mercenary since he was a teenager. He fought in and enjoyed numerous battles over the years and always came out unscathed. Then, during one fateful battle his formation had been overrun by heavy cavalry, and it looked as though his luck would end. It was then that a demon appeared before him, and he made an unholy pact.

From that point on Tomas devoted himself to the Dark Arts, finding that he had a natural talent for magic and applying it to the art of war. This, however, drew unwanted attention and he was forced to join the Cabal.

SiberDrac
Primary Character
Character Name: Siber Roelan Terrian (non-modern-ness explained later)
Gender: male
Age: 21
Race: Caucasian; more specifically, western European
Current Occupation: college student, junior, biochemistry major
Skills: staff work, academic, rational, theatrical, video games, basic martial training
Relationship/Marital Status:
single
Physical Description: approximately 5' 10", black hair, deep blue eyes, moderately pale skin, delicate hands, wiry with lean muscle, moves with a distinct grace
Personality: Developed a flair for the theatrical, but remains largely reclusive/introspective. Forms friendships, but does not display them on the surface. He is coldly logical, with an outspoken view on carrying out Darwinistic principles and eliminating (or allowing the death of) weaker members of the human species. Has great respect for education, especially music, and the martial arts. He gets along well with those who are willing to debate intelligently or those who understand him and is undeniably kind when the occasion warrants it, but he remains an enigma to most.
Biography: Born in northeastern U.S.A. as the middle child in a family of five with one younger brother and one older sister, he has learned from his siblings' mistakes that emotions besides joy are pointless, excepting occasional anger. From that stemmed a disrespect for those who are overly emotional or irrational, which birthed an intent dislike of them, and thus were his views born. His emotionlessness gave rise to his love for the theatrical, because theater only requires fake and quickly-shifting emotions. This ended in his decision to adopt a fantastic name as his own, rather than his old name, Karl Andrew Terrian. His interest in biochemistry also stemmed from this, as he loves to entertain the idea of manipulating the fabric of life, DNA. Disregarding outside influence besides his parents' insistence he learn Christian doctrine, he has developed strong spiritual beliefs that are not necessarily restricted to dogmatic monotheism- that is, he believes in an almost Celtic view of nature and chi, or spiritual energy.
Location: college campus, still north-eastern U.S.A.
View of Soul: While others may not necessarily agree, Siber sees himself as a moderately good person, perhaps just crossing over the line between good and evil.
However, it cannot be ignored that he is infinitely helpful to those who honestly seek academic or spiritual aid.

Warlock Soul
Name: Keldan Tomera
Skills: particularly fond of mental torture and anguish, he enjoys peering into a person's psyche and anticipating their various reactions; kind of a social spider on the surface, one might say.
Personality: generally courteous and generous, Keldan most frequently hid a very deep anger whenever slighted and used societal manipulation to wreak revenge rather than take any direct action; however, when really pissed off, most frequently by a refusal to accept the truth or an assassination attempt, he would use his mental and magical prowess to submit the victim to mental agony, usually letting them off alive and functional but sometimes, on a whim, gibbering and witless for at least the rest of their natural lives
Primary Discipline: Demoniac
Secondary Discipline: Shadow
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge; prepares networks of spells and chain reactions, to be activated when neccesary
Corruption Level: 4
Biography: Doting father of a younger daughter and older son, he is, despite his fascination with social interaction, a mere shopkeeper who upkeeps a friendly exterior and, usually, interior. Born into a poor family, he became quickly disgusted with his life despite his parents' urges to accept his lot in life as a Roman farmer and struck out young hero style to seek his fortune. That failed quickly, at age ten, and he came back less that six months later. Seven years later, after studying politics both social and governmental, he tried again, this time beginning by killing his now-overbearing and violent parents and likewise disposing of his four siblings, covering it all as random Roman persecution (surprisingly easy). From there, he manipulated distant friends and relatives into donating moneys to him and set himself up. Along the way, he became aware of the dark magics and their uses in his power-hungry goals. Being late entering the Cabal, he was moving quickly up through rank when the Church scourged the land for Warlocks and 'died' at age twenty-seven.

Your Wettest Nightmare
Primary Character
Character Name: Taylor Petersen
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Race: Caucasian.
Current Occupation: Cook
Skills: Musician, technologically inclined, fast learner, actress
Relationship/Marital Status: Single

Physical Description: Although thin and gangly usually describes a boy, Taylor matches this rather well. Standing 5’7” and weighing around 110-ish pounds, she has no qualms about commonly being mistaken for a guy. Her lack of endowments combined with chin-length bleach blonde hair is only topped off by her style of dress: jeans and T-shirts nonstop, the occasional hoodie and a stunning array of hats and bandanas. Life, Taylor says, can be summed up quite well by accessories.

Personality: Taylor is a bit of an eccentric. She likes to make statues out of vegetables and has a collection of over a hundred glass bottles. Most of her spare time is spent playing guitar or piano, either that or craning over her computer doing God-knows-what. Although Taylor is friendly enough, sometimes she comes on too strong by asking people strange questions or telling them things that are generally thought to be “too much information”. Taylor would be generally easy to understand, if she didn’t bounce between extreme emotions so easily. However, she keeps that inside of her and usually seems emotionally vacant on the outside to those she doesn’t know well.

Biography: Born in Chicago, Taylor was raised in a very open family and, unlike most of her peers, has never had any trouble telling her mother about the events of her life. You know that kid who ate glue in your kindergarten class? Remember when you’d open your Christmas presents and your little sister didn’t care about the toy, she just wanted to play in the box? That’s the kind of kid Taylor was.

When she was nine, Taylor, her mother and older brother Tyler, moved to San Diego after her parent’s divorce. A few years later, Taylor began pursuing her passion for the things she still loves today – music, computers, cooking and theatre.

Taylor is the youngest chef at the restaurant she is currently employed at, and participates in plays at the community college she is attending, frequently landing lead roles. Her true dream, however, is to be a part of a rock band and tour the US.

Location: San Diego, CA

View of Soul: Taylor was entirely unsurprised by the soul, and even told her mother about it. She enjoys his company, if nothing else.

Warlock Soul
Name: Regal Cartim
Skills: Extremely sharp memory, good at solving puzzles, understands most Latin-based languages
Personality: Regal is a bit cynical of the world and its inhabitants, and generally prefers to keep to himself. Being a logical man, he doesn’t understand how Taylor can keep up with her own emotions. Generally, Regal is levelheaded and tries to plan head.
Primary Discipline: Elementist
Secondary Discipline: Healing
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge.
Corruption Level: 4
VERY BRIEF Biography: When Regal was young, he left his parents the moment he knew he could support himself and traveled Europe. This is partially why he understands so many languages. During this time, he spent his days honing his abilities, meditating and learning as much as he could.
The sights he saw were what hardened him and made him bitter towards humanity. When given the opportunity to see the future by channeling himself through his descendants, he hesitated, but his thirst for knowledge and will to survive won the battle in the end.

DECEASED.

tic_tac_joe
Primary Character
Character Name: Joe Simpson
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Race: Mixed; Asian, Italian, English, and others. As time passed, the bloodline became more and more integrated.
Current Occupation: Air Force Pilot
Skills: Extensive weapons and martial arts knowledge, as well as a high intelligence, both based on his Air Force training for deep reconnaissance in enemy territory. Specifically: Aikido, Judo, fencing and kendo training, archery, firearms (revolvers, semi-automatics, and assault rifles), and knife combat.
Specializes with: Small arms, (semi-automatic pistols and revolvers) and a fencing saber.
Relationship/Marital Status: Single, having let his girlfriend go after the Crossover Arc.
Physical Description: Joe is just about 5'9", so medium-ish. His skin is a dark tan, not bronze, just dark. This is a throwback to his predominantly Filipino heritage. His hair and eyes are matching colors, a dark, soulful brown. He has been described as handsome, although he doesn't really believe it personally. There is a small scar between his eyes, not in the middle but more to the right if one is looking at him. He is athletically built, meaning that he is neither overly muscled nor scrawny.
Personality: Totally laid back. He loves to crack jokes and make people laugh. However, he has a strong sense of honor and always does his best to come through for his friends.
Lately, Joe has begun to exhibit more of an anger problem, although he has yet to accept it as a true "problem." When angry, he becomes as focused as a laser, and much, much more dangerous than usual. (See between Crossover and Abbadon Arcs.) He has begun to think of things more strategically than before. Now that he's not in the military and taking orders, it's up to him to think of things. He's still adjusting.
Biography: He was born in a small town in Central America, where he was raised poor and he learned to appreciate what he had. His parents let him choose how he wanted to grow, so he decided that he would work on expanding his mind. He continued this habit when his family moved to America. He joined the Air Force in honor of his father, who was in the Air Force and died shortly after moving to the US. He and his mother lived together in Idaho, then moved to Washington when his mother found work. He liked the area and chose to work there. He has always had a knack for helping people and making things better, however he tends to suffer from personal bad luck often, maybe as a result of certain influences.
His first conversation with Roland occurred while Joe was on a flight. Roland commented on the beautiful view, and Joe landed nearby, suspecting technical difficulties. Afterwards, he figured it out and enjoys talking to Roland.
Joe has gone from Warlock to Warlock Hunter, and is now the Avatar of Consul Iblis, seat of the Djinni on the Council of 27.
Location: Seattle, Washington, USA
View of Soul: Joe believes he has a good soul and does his best to keep it that way.

Warlock Soul
Name: Roland Dark
Skills: A master fencer, skilled with light, quick combat with precision and speed. Lately, he has begun to look at things much more tactically.
Personality: Roland was initially pacifistic and believed that honor and pride are what were needed. However, after spending so long a time with Joe, Roland has come to lighten up considerably, viewing things almost as Joe does. He is still dedicated to honor and duty, but who knows? Maybe one day, Joe will turn him.
Primary Discipline: Elementalist
Secondary Discipline: Healer
Preferred Magic Style: Evoker

Corruption Level: -2
VERY BRIEF Biography: Roland was born into a rather privileged family and tended to take things for granted. Since his family was well-connected, Roland was well educated in all aspects, and his magical education began soon after his academic one. He was taught by teachers who constantly degraded and scorned him. He began to focus more and more on becoming more powerful, slipping in his other studies. He practiced and studied on his own, finding comfort in the power that he felt able to release. Finally, when all three of his teachers insulted his performance on his final elementalist exam at once, he snapped, killing all three in a bloody flash of power.
Afterwards, he fled home, unable to escape the mental horror of having murdered three people. He lived alone, wandering from place to place and doing his best to atone for his past. Being a hermit, he shucked his old existence and became a new man. At that time, he changed his name, both because he felt he was no longer worthy of the name he bore before he committed murder, taking the name Roland.
Eventually, he was semi-known through central Europe as a medicine man. However, no one knew that his power secretly lied within his magical training more than in his academics. Unfortunately, once Warlock hunters came to the fore and led their bloody crusades, he came under some speculation. He left the area and was invited to join the Cabal for his healing abilities. He accepted, joining the Cabal for protection. He assumes the surname Dark in order to better blend with the other Warlocks. He cast the spell with mostly success, losing some of his memories in the transfer

hm103
Gaia Name: hm103

Primary Character
Character Name: Kayla Masenkov
Gender: female
Age: 24
Race: caucasian - russian american
Current Occupation: Artist and character designer for Everware games.
Skills: Excellent artist, very good at soccer and athletics in general, has good instincts and sense of direction,
Relationship/Marital Status: freshly single, just broke up with a longtime girlfriend.
Physical Description: Kayla is fiarly tall, about 5'6.5" and strongly built in the old Russian tradition. She has reddish-brown hair, the length and color of which are often subject to change and strangely light blue eyes. Her facial features are rounded and generally friendly, making her look a bit frigntening when she's angry. Her fingers are all slightly crooked from goalkeeping. She has the word "pride" tatooed on her left shoulderblade.
Personality: Kayla appears to be somewhat whimsical and random, but this is only because she has such a strong sense of her own character that she can change her behavior and clothes while still remaining confidently in charge of herself. Being static bores her, and she'll often change her plans midday just to throw in a little variety. However, when she finds something that is important, she focuses completley and is incapable of shifting from that thing, even a little bit. She's gay, and has been out of the closet since high school.
Biography: Kayla was raised in a conservative Russian-American household in the suburbs of New York City, and did some heavy research into her family tree before she came out to her parents. She had done well to look up distant yet wealthy relations, as her parents promptly disowned her in her senior year of high school. She stayed with friends until she could plead her case to the Loydokovs, they bing the rich half of the family. On the merit of her artistic achievment, they agreed to put her through college. She also got a partial scolarship for playing goalkeeper for the soccer team. Even as a freshman, she had begun searching for work, so she already had a job once she graduated.
Her warlock soul had first made contact during a history lecture during her sophmore year of college. "This," he had said. "Is utter tripe" Kayla had fallen out of her chair in shock.
Location: A tiny artist's loft in the East Village of New York City
View of Soul: They disagree on many points, but at the end of the day have very similar personalities. She has denied him the privelage of effecting her life as much as possible, but he is rapidly growing on her in a "crazy uncle" sort of way.

Warlock Soul
Name: Vassily Yupik
Skills: Shaman things, so healing and enducing a trance-state, good with animals, good instincts and sense of direction.
Personality: Vassily loves many things (and people) and is very loyal to them. However, his love is transient, as he has no patience for things that stay the same. Because of this, he has had many families scattered across the huge area tha became Russia. He is a very curious person, and also power hungry; He seeks to maximize his power, not necessarily to use it, but simply to know that he could if he wanted to. Due to channeling spirits and demons for so long, he has a very strong sense of himself.
Primary Discipline: Demoniac channeling: a strange hybrid between demoniac summoning and shamanistic channeling. He channels the power of demons through his own body rather than binding them to an object.
Secondary Discipline: Healing: it's a shaman thing, it's kind of what they do.
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge ONLY. He must enter a trance-state to commune with demons and recruit them to his side. These trances can last for a long time, up to several days. Any longer and he'd rist dying of thirst.
Corruption Level: 3
VERY BRIEF Biography: Vassily began as a shaman in Siberia, and was very, very good at it. He tended to travel a lot, as he was easily bored. Often he would leave a village in a time of need simply because he was sick and tired of dealing with the same problem over and over again. As he moved west, he began sensing the Cabal, and sought them out. He didn't find thim until the age of fifty-three, and stayed with them until his death at the hands of hunters at the age of sixty-eight. During that time, Legion taught him to adapt his shamanic channeling powers to demons, and he grew rapidly in power. He also aged much more slowly once he started spending time in Hell.

In the present day, he gets along with Kayla either very poorly or very well, it's sometimes hard to tell. He's absolutley horrified that he was reincarnated into the body of a lesbian and an artist, and even more horrified that her personality is so similar to his own.

Devath
Primary Character

Character Name: Samuel Kilroon
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: Caucasian
Current Occupation: Mechanic
Skills: Fencing, Socializing… He is also a good marksman and can aim precisely at long distances.
Relationship/Marital Status: Single (and possibly looking…)

Physical Description: Sam is well-muscled and stands tall at six foot. He tends to wear the generic T-shirt and jeans, but he knows when this is not adequate and will wear a brown leather trench coat to hold any extra things he thinks he might need for a risky situation.

Personality: Samuel is a nice individual, and is very social around people he has just been acquainted with. He has interests in machines and cars, and is good with guns. He doesn’t generally show it, but he loves explosions. He is bashful around girls he likes, but tries to avoid showing it as much as possible. (This generally doesn’t work well.) He has a variety of hobbies, including fencing and people-watching.

Biography: Samuel has lived a relatively quiet life in Canada, and has generally viewed himself as one of the ‘norm’ for most of his life. That is, until his warlock surfaced. He grew up in a middle class family and has had many things in his life that seem pleasant and unassuming. He spent most of his early childhood playing with friends from school and the neighborhood, and began to develop traces of technical knowledge as he became fascinated with his father’s work in designing cars.

As he grew, he continued to play with his friends frequently, and had girlfriends on and off throughout school. He quickly acquired his first few jobs as a mechanic and found he was very good at it, and started up a business around it as soon as he was out of school. Soon after, he found his own home and said farewell to his parents.

He became a proficient mechanic and can now fix anything brought to his shop. He has found that fixing things is a good focus for his mind when it is wandering, especially when he is disciplining Gurul. He is normally paid well and has lived a relatively normal life in his house in Edmonton.

His warlock surfaced midway through his eighteenth year, and he was slightly pissed that he had developed a second mind in his brain for no apparent reason. He quickly learned how to beat the crap out of Gurul mentally, and keeps a firm grip on the out of control psychopath most of the time, although he generally will listen to the advice of the madman when it relates to magic. He has been learning the applications of magic from Gurul for a while, albeit forced out of the warlock, because he does not trust the warlock with control of any magical talent he might have.

Location: Edmonton, Canada
View of Soul: “Why the f**k do I have a psychopathic maniac in my head…” Gurul’s presence is tolerated, but Samuel has a strong will and will discipline Gurul when he is annoyed with him.

Warlock Soul

Name: Gurul Tash
Skills: Decent skill with a staff, expert alchemist
Personality: Gurul is a psychopath. He has a strange love for the smell of burning flesh and a psychopathic desire to watch things consumed by flames. He revels in the desire to slaughter people by the dozens, by the hundreds, even. He is a disturbing character that takes a perverse pleasure in his dealings with demons and the slaughter that ensues.
Primary Discipline: Elementalist
Secondary Discipline: Elementalist
Preferred Magic Style: Evoker [Quick-and-Dirty]
Corruption Level: 8
VERY BRIEF Biography: Gurul was born into a well-to-do family that had produced many knights for the King and practiced white magic on the side, calling down magic from God. Late in his childhood, he was exposed to the traumatic experience of having his entire family tortured to death in front of his eyes. Their agony convinced him that the God that his parents had believed in, that his family had believed in, had abandoned them, had shown utter cruelty for no other reason than a whim.

He set out on a journey to find those who had tortured and burned his family, seeking revenge for what they had done. In his long travels, he learned how to wield magic and use weapons that his family had not taught him to use. He discovered new people, and as each person betrayed him in turn, he learned to never trust anyone.

Upon his discovery of those who slaughtered his family, he went to their castle and entered in the guise of a foreign diplomat, asking for peace between his country and theirs. Upon being led to the high council, he burned each person in turn, his flames engulfing them, the human screams filling the air. As the smell of burning flesh wafted into his nose, he discovered that he was taking a liking to it, it smelled wonderful. His revenge was sweet and brought him more pleasure than he could admit. He burned more and more of the structure and the people, reveling in the roaring flames as they engulfed the foreigner’s castle, burning even the stones. He laughed and laughed, and it was clear that he had gone completely insane.

He left the castle and began to move throughout the country, mercilessly slaughtering hundreds of people for the pleasure of hearing their screams, smelling their burning flesh. It was an addiction. Soon, the church got wind of his actions, and as more Hunters were sent after the psychopathic warlock, he sought refuge in the newly forming Cabal that he heard of from those who he tortured before he killed them. He liked Legion when he met him, and extended his knowledge of the magical arts over the years, burning people all the while. He reveled in his slaughter…

Relationship/Marital Status: Single, unmarried.
Physical Description: Aurelie is tall and slender, with supple curves and a lithe grace from her dancing and swordfighting. She has silky brown hair with red and gold highlights halfway down her back in soft waves. Her skin is slightly dark with her french heritage. Her eyes are olive shaped and slightly tilted, a dark shade of pretty blue, giving her an exotic quality, with high cheek bones and full lips. She often wears shirts with wide bell sleeves and dresses withflowing skirts just above her knees as she loves to be able to move unrestricted should the need arise.
Personality: She is secretive, never revealing much of herself, and is often quiet around others, content to sit and watch. But she is very friendly and nice, always polite. But she does so to hide most of her true feelings, as her polite smiles never quite reach her eyes. Deep down she is rather sarcastic, ofttimes with a bite to her words. She is easily angered and unafraid of most things, as she has been on the streets for a long time.
Biography: Aurelie's mother died during her birth, something she has always blamed herself for, although there was nothing she had done. Her father, a mage, bent himself to his work, doing nothing but magic working from his beloved wifes death until his own. As he taught his daughter as much as he could, he could not teach her all. As he was experimenting with ancient spells something went awry. And after the explosion and the fire of her home, there was never another sign of Aurelie's father. She was then taken by the government and put into a home, where the other children taunted her incessantly. These events left her angry at the world, but taught her to be able to blend in seamlessly with the crowd. She learned to fend for herself. Although sent to another home to finish her education, she never acknowledged the other orphans presence, thinking them too weak and puny to survive. So Aurelie worked and saved until she bought herself an apartment in downtown New Orleans, not far from her old home, and finished high school. After her parents death she began hobbies to express her feelings where she wouldn't elsewhere. She learned to draw, painting everything she could, she began dancing, to keep herself in shape and disciplined, and she learned some hand to hand combat, but mostly became very good with swords and daggers.
Location: She lives in an apartment, not in a building complex, as she can't stand to live to close to others, but in tiny homes spaced out for rent in downtown New Orleans.
View of Soul: She has so far seen her warlock soul as a chance to learn more magic than her mother could teach her. She is neutral at first, but is leaning towards embracing the soul.

Warlock Soul

Name: Apolline Delacroix
Skills: She can speak and translate French, Spanish, Greek, and English and can read and write very well (an unusual skill for women in her time). She also learned to fight well with staff and short sword.
Personality: Apolline is intelligent, with a quick wit and dry humor, and an "I could care less if you breathe or die" attitude. She is not utterly evil, but is past the neutral catagory, and is completely loyal to Legion.
Primary Discipline: Elementalist
Secondary Discipline: Shadow
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge
Corruption Level: 6
VERY BRIEF Biography: Apolline's family has been warlocks and magic wielders for generations, and although she had time to be taught very little, her parents tried to instruct her. But her parents were slaughtered as they attended the Cabala that was ambushed by Warlock hunters. Only as one of the warlocks escaped did he see her and save her as he knew her parents. This warlock taught her many things, including the soul spell that Legion had told them about. So she started a family, with many children so she knew that she would have a successful heir. She passed on her knowledge to many of her children, before her death at twenty five at the hands of a warlock hunter, who, presuming her family innocent due to her precautions, left her line alone.

Gender: Female
Age: Twenty-eight
Race: Greecian

Skills: Bilingual, Top level gymnastics
Relationship/Marital Status: Single
Physical Description: Agrotera seems an exotic flower from a faraway beach. Golden skin, supple figure, dark green eyes, and long hair so light it almost rivals silver. She wears a half-corset of pale blue over a white peasant blouse with wide sleeves, down to leather boots and worn jeans.
Personality: Agrotera holds pure and absolute confidence in herself and her abilities. Though formal and polite, she is distant and seemingly cold. She has a quick wit, sharp intellect, and icy humor.
Biography: Agrotera has always had it easy. Early in life her parents money pillowed her childhood, allowing her free reign in their prosperous home. She turned to gymnastics, instantaneously falling in love and continuing it for years.
After school she continued to college for degrees in fashion and graphic designing, as she found she had a certain talent for design. And a certain ruthlessness in business which she carried in all aspects of her life that was appealing to future bosses. Foregoing her parents money she worked her way to the top until she owned her own business. She no longer speaks to her parents, has no contact with her family at all.
On a recent business trip to America, she was in L.A. when unusual things began to happen. Her warlock soul, Acheron, awoke. To this she has turned wholeheartedly, but first must find Legion to join his "band" of miscreants.

Personality: He has an icy demeanor, but intensely favors sarcasm. Unafraid of anything he thinks quickly on his feet, and follows no one.
Primary Discipline: Demoniac
Secondary Discipline: Healer
Preferred Magic Style: Thaumaturge
Corruption Level: 7
VERY BRIEF Biography: Acheron did not have an easy childhood, living on the streets and never knowing what the next day would bring. His mother passed away during the stillbirth of his baby sister, and he was raised by the iron fist of his retired Hunter father. His father's cruelness, the quick temper and many beatings as he sought to try to beat the meaness out of his son, sent him to hate his father. The man sat him down and told him of the Warlocks Protective Cabal, and of thier evil ways and the Hunters which tried to stop them. Acheron turned on his own father after finding out all he could, and joined other hunters as an outlaw under an alias. Each time he would betray them to take out more of their accursed kind. He made a vow never to follow or allow their kind to subject him to such treatment again.
One day he finally stumbled upon a meeting of the Cabal, and after explaining himself, as he had become the talk of quite a few circles, they took him in. He honed his skills and became a small town smithy. Occasionally he would be moved to use his magic to heal others in the towns, if they could pay him high enough.
He worked on his magic as a weapon, feeding the malevolence inside him. At Legions behest, he entered with the others to fling his soul forward in time to a descendant. Unfortunately, he landed in a female descendant.

~Starting Magic~

Split into Thaumaturgy and Evocation for each discpline.

Elementalist~
Thaumaturgy: The thaumaturge will place an elemental sigil upon an object. The object will then, on command, execute a specific task (i.e. turn earth to mud in the direction the object is pointed, with the aiming fine-tuned by the focus of the warlock's eyes). The Elements form a varied, flexible discipline in terms of thaumaturgy, and with a little creativity, a lot is possible. Multiple elements can be tied to a single focus, for huge amounts of customization. The most common things to key it to for the command are a memorable vocalization (i.e. "Burn" or "Toss"), a gesture (i.e. keying an elemental effect to thrusting two given fingers in someone's direction, so the focus may remain concealed). Each element has one distinct symbol.
Evocation: Evocation for the Elements is very much the embodiment of evocation's style: Quick and messy. Effects cannot receive the precision and finesse of thaumaturgic effects, but make up for it in that they are able to be activated at the speed of thought. It's mostly like thaumaturgy, only you think up what you want on the spot and it happens, only less precisely and (likely) more explosively than you would've probably hoped.

Necromancer~
Thaumaturgy: Carve a specific symbol into the corpse, pump a little magic into it, then seal it. Not much to say. It's pretty easy, but if you just screw with the symbol a little, the undeath just fails. It's also possible to put it on organs and the like, which minimizes the weakness but tends to get a bit... messy... in the process.
Evocation: Evocation for necromancy is more difficult because you either: (a) Unload a bunch of your power into it for a lasting reanimation; or (b) are pumping power into the corpse until you're done with it. However, a corpse reanimated for the long term, in advance, done with evocation, will be more useful than a thaumaturgy-reanimated corpse, because they lack the weak point.

Demoniac~
Thaumaturgy: Demon summoning has two stages for most thaumaturges. First, one must summon the demon. This is generally done by channeling magic through an incantation, a symbol, or some other magic-based interdimensional "call" that rips the demon into the realm of earth. Second, is, for long-term use, to subdue the demon through sheer force of will and bind it to something. Metal is best for that. The choice object of most demoniacs is coins, because of their easy availability.
Evocation: Really, it's just the first stage of the thaumaturgy one, and you just use force of will to direct it.

Shadow~
Thaumaturgy: Any object can be turned into a Shadow focus, but the two main choices are small metal trinkets, and cloth. Cloth can have effects sewn into it, to be triggered by commands, like Elementalist foci.
Evocation: Much less subtle than the thaumaturgic version, as usual. The effects are slower (since they haven't been keyed in advance) and often less thorough, but they do basically the same thing. Triggered by thought, like the Elements.

Enchanter~
Thaumaturgy: All enchantment is thaumaturgy; evokers are capable of it, however, it's a little more draining (though they have more flexibility in what they can affect).

Healer~
Thaumaturgy: Usually done with bandages or other first aid objects, pre-imbued with certain effects (seal wounds, clot blood, etc.). Thaumaturgy is better than evocation when the thing needs to be precise (i.e. clearing an artery of something that's causing a heart attack)
Evocation: Often similar to thaumaturgy, but more ability to go wrong... but at least if an unexpected injury happens, you can still fix it.

The basic method is, you pump power into stuff while guiding it into a certain effect. The difference is, thaumaturgy is done in advance, and it is precise, but power-consuming... but the power consumption makes little difference to someone who did it four days ago. You just need to rely on having thought of the right thing to have designed. Evocation is messy, fast, and harder to control, but it's flexible, not locked in to pre-arranged effects.

Post Cannibalized for APPENDIX!!

Universe-Knowledge and Summaries of Arcs in order of revelation/occurrence.
Section 1: Chakras, written up by SiberDrac and posted almost unedited.
SiberDrac
The seven chakras are seven spiritual centers of desire in the human body, represented at locations in which seven (plexus) or thirteen (cortex) lines of physical force intersect. They evolved along with the Hindu religion and have strong connections to Chinese and Buddhist philosophy, so you can imagine that they are not the most ordered of concepts. A chakra-based demoniac must have total knowledge of each of the emotions surrounding the chakras, although there are physical attributes to each as well, including organs with which they interact regardless of how far from that organ they are. Each (mostly) has a color, element, and representative animal. I haven't given the animal here, but I have put the color, location, and element (as far as I can figure it out). Also, I've listed each dæmon from each chakra Siber has used. Chakra-based dæmons do not necessarily represent the element of their chakra directly; much of their power is based on different aspects of each one. They prefer being contacted prior to being used, like most dæmons, and for the most part are psychologically stable save for a sometimes obsessive focus on their particular chakra (i.e., the Rusalka's desire for vengeance).

An elementalist using the chakras as base points applies similar rules, but has more knowledge of the elemental aspects of each chakra, putting them to use and generally knowing more about how to integrate them all - how each chakra dissolves up into the next one from earth to water to fire to air to purity to knowledge to totality. This means, though, that elementalists are required to work their way up from the base chakra to the seventh slowly; most do not live long enough to master the Ajna, whereas demoniacs have no such limitation. The demoniacs fail in that if they leave two chakras mixed while attempting to summon, they can physically cripple the dæmons involved and end up wiping out their own spiritual centers, leaving them sobbing wrecks (if they have any emotion at all).
I've bent these a little because they're so nebulous in the first place, and if any of you have any prior or extra knowledge, feel free to add it.

Muladhara: Also known as the "root place.” Its element is earth and its color is red. It is located at the coccygeal plexus, which is the coccyx or base of the spine. It encompasses the desires for survival, rage, revenge, and passion. Dæmons from here are single-minded in their efforts to keep their summoner alive. They are fiercely loyal to the degree that they will sometimes overcome the summoner if they are not kept in check. Their earth connection means they're pretty much tanks.
1st level: Firage, 2nd level: Rusalka, 7th level: Leviathan

Svadhisthana: Also known as the “dwelling place of the self.” Its element is water; thus, the earth-based Muladhara dissolves into it both metaphysically and physically, losing rigidity as the concepts of family and creativity interfere with base survival instinct. Its color is vermillion and it has a strong association with the moon. It's located at the hypogastric plexus, just above the groin, and represents the desires for games, sex, fantasy, and sport. Dæmons here are extremely difficult to control on a purely authoritative basis because they have no respect for said authority. They are playful creatures with very little sense of loyalty and respond mostly to opportunities for sport.
1st level: Razier, 3rd level: Raj (the lesser panda), 7th level: Terpsichore

Manipura: Also known as the “city of jewels,” its element is fire and it represents the flame of life. It is located at the solar plexus just beneath the sternum but has a stronger connection with the physical eyes (not third eye). Its color appears to be violet and it represents the desires for strength and will power. Dæmons from here are fast, proud, and volatile in nature*.
1st level: Pathelios (Leo)
*Pathelios is an exception. He focuses more on the solidity of power that would be more closely identified with Muladhara, but uses the vigor of Manipura to fuel it. Also, he's low-level, so he is less clearly defined.

Anahata: Represents the idea “unhurt, un-struck, and unbeaten.” It is the heart chakra, is also vermillion, and seems to be a very yin-yang ideal, symbolizing both the male and female. Its element is air and its location is the cardiac plexus or heart. It holds the desire for everlasting love but also the idea of total separation from worldly cares. Dæmons from here simultaneously represent both of those ideas, having an overall caring nature and an overall troublesomely pacific nature. They focus on healing and shields.
1st level: Anaeris (the butterfly), 2nd level: Jivat (the dragonfly)

Vishuddha: The “pure” chakra, representing æther and listening, although its location is the carotid plexus or throat. The four elemental chakras beneath it dissolve into their purest forms through this chakra, which also seems to represent cosmic sound (the Voice of God and the Universe, basically). Its color, if it has one, is silver. It holds the desire for self-expression and creativity as well as the potential for clairvoyance and telepathy. Dæmons from here are usually artistic in nature and a little bit harder to deal with eye-to-eye because of it. They have a focus on aesthetics and illusion.
1st level: Jnan (the horse)

Ajna: Represents the authority and insurmountability of the future-seeing “third eye.” Because chakra-based Warlocks have this physical and spiritual connection to the third eye of all Warlocks, their powers of sight and detection are significantly enhanced especially if they specifically train this chakra. It represents what the dæmoniac interprets as the mind element, the color seems to be blue, and it is located at the medulla cortex, just between the eyebrows. Its desire is to "see beyond." A dæmon of this chakra is difficult to hit, because they read the movements of their enemies from any direction and rarely miss for the same reason. They are generally serene, but proud.
1st level: Monoculous

Sahasrara: Known as both the thousand-petaled lotus and the supreme center of contact with God, this chakra appears to have the element of light or electricity. This is the "Nirvana" chakra, if you will, in which there is no knowledge and all knowledge. It represents a higher state of being and a total lack of desire or a desire for bliss and perfection. The location is the cerebral cortex and the color is infinite, as far as I can tell. Dæmons from this chakra can have any personality, but are generally very knowledgeable of their power and extremely aware of the self in its pure state. Even if something they do seems frivolous, it is planned and well thought-out.
1st level: Sapphra, 3rd level: Centauri

Appendix in progress, to be completed after arc summaries are complete

Arc 1: Gathering
Siber, Erik, Paul, Joe, Taylor, and Linda receive their summons from Legion. Keldan's defenses killed a rookie Warlock Hunter who was on his tail, attracting further attention; in L.A., he promptly learned just how dangerous demon-summoning and mind-probing could be as Taylor, Linda, and Paul gravitated to / were captured by the Warlock Hunter group under Joshua, Alan, and Sam (not Samuel, Devath's character, but Sam, who totally received his name before Devath's character did 3nodding ). Erik was led to Legion's base of operations, a mansion nobody really seemed to notice in the heart of L.A., only more off to the side. More like the rib cage or intestines of L.A., but you get the idea. Erik got his introduction to Legion and was instructed to practice evocation with Takeshi while Legion had Siber, who had arrived in the meantime, wait. While Legion was instructing them, Siber attempted to mind-read Joe, drawing Legion's ire. Siber and Joe then joined Legion's other new recruits for basic development of their magic. Shenanigans ensued. Pages 5 and 6 for details.

One at a time, Paul and Linda got their blood pacts to fight Legion with Joshua - Taylor, the only person still bound after Paul's wife Melissa was released, was shot by a Shadowman sniper for not posting.

All right, we now have Arturo/Linda as a model for a normal-level character who is on the good side, with a neutral-corruption-level soul.

We've got one person in profile limbo right now; he's making good progress and we should be beginning soon.

I'd just like to say you guys are all great, with excellent character variety. I'm going to be posting one more NPC (Read: My evil character) soon. Probably just before we start.

Anyone who has been admitted or is in the process: We are beginning soon. I'll PM you when it's time.

Anyone who wants to join after we start:

It's okay! We can work you in almost seamlessly, I would think, because of simple differences in when your Warlock Soul begins to manifest.

The RP begins tomorrow. The first post will have separate sections for each character. I'm going to try to get it up in the range of around nine AM to twelve PM, Pacific Time.

~~
Paul woke up in the Vegas hotel room.

Something was wrong. It was a little too cold. A little too dark. The smells of the room around him were muted, and there was a faint stench of rotting flesh.

It was obvious why when he sat up, because at the foot of the bed was a letter clearly marked "Legion" on the front.

Robert broke in. His voice (or rather, the idea of his voice transmitted directly to Paul's mind) was slightly tremulous.

"So do we open it?" Paul asked out loud.

Robert pointed out.

"So what if we fight him?" Paul inquired.

"Wow."

Paul stared at the letter for a little while longer. Something, perhaps a compulsion placed on the letter by Legion, made him want to open it. It made him need to open it.

He opened it.

Nothing happened. He read it.

Los Angeles. I'll know when you arrive. The time for a new age of humanity has come, an age in which we, those who use magic, will be gods among men.

That was what the note read. A single plane ticket fluttered to the ground.

~~

Tomas exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement. feel it, Erik!? Take a deep breath. Intoxicating, isn't it?>

"Tomas," Erik muttered under his breath, "If you were a separate person, I'd be giving you a funny look right now. Besides, it says Legion on the front. Who is it, anyway?"

Tomas warned.

"Sounds dangerous. What's he good at?" Erik mused as he tore the envelope's end off.

Tomas answered.

"Really, now," he muttered as the letter slid out a bit at a time. Eventually, he got it out and read it.

Los Angeles. I'll know when you arrive. The time for a new age of humanity has come, an age in which we, those who use magic, will be gods among men.

"Huh," Erik grunted. A plane ticket fell out of the envelope.

~~

Siber Roelan Terrian awoke early in the morning to an unnatural chill and a distinct smell of putrid, rotting flesh. He looked down the bed.

A dead body was placing a letter at the foot of his bed.
"Holy s**t!" he exclaimed when it registered. He had already scrambled back to the wall.

The body was gone moments later. He slowly allowed himself forward again and gingerly picked up and opened the letter.

Los Angeles. I'll know when you arrive. The time for a new age of humanity has come, an age in which we, those who use magic, will be gods among men.

That was interesting, he thought as a small piece of paper fluttered out of the letter he was holding. His hand shot down to snatch it up. It was a plane ticket.

Keldan commented.

~~

"Well, this is odd," Taylor muttered as she stared at the letter. She hadn't yet opened it. Her discussion with Regal, on the subject of Legion, was too interesting.

Regal concluded.

"Well, let's find out, then," Taylor decided. As she opened it, she found a plane ticket and a message...

Los Angeles. I'll know when you arrive. The time for a new age of humanity has come, an age in which we, those who use magic, will be gods among men.

~~

Joe, as well, found the letter and ticket and got an explanation from his Warlock Soul.
