Acheron
The strongest steel is forged by the fires of hell
Even though he was the youngest when he died, Acheron was the first Dark-Hunter ever appointed. He is also the writer of the Dark-Hunter Creed and of the Code we abide by.
Because of his Dark-Hunter age and the fact that he fought the Daimons alone for thousands of years, he is more phantom than real. He interacts with the other Dark-Hunters on a whim, and his sage advice is often sought.
Eccentric and idiosyncratic to the extreme, he is a legend among legends. The Dark-Hunters never know what to expect when Acheron enters a scene. He runs the full gamut from friendly to intimidating to downright scary.
It is said of him that there has never been a mortal born who could equal his physical perfection. He possesses a raw, rare kind of charisma.
To look at him is to want him. To see him is to ache to touch him.
Artemis herself once said of him:
He had been built to please, and trained to pleasure. Everything about him from the sleek muscles that rippled to the deep, erotic timber in his voice seduced anyone who came into contact with him.
Like a lethal wild animal, he moved with a primal promise of danger and masculine power. With the promise of supreme sexual fulfillment.
Sunshine describes him as:
He had such a deadly, graceful swagger. A predator’s lope. There was something intrinsically sexual about Acheron. Something compelling, seductive. Just being near him made her want to reach out and touch him.
It was as if he were putting off some powerful pheromones and at the same time, she was scared of him. He was like a lethal, beautiful animal in the wild that part of you wanted to cuddle while the other part of you knew he was just as likely to rip your arm off as he want to cuddle back.
He was magnetic and fierce and he made her want to run for the door
No one knows why he became what he did. Then again, no one knows much about him. Period. And he likes it that way. Trying to get any personal information out if him is an impossible task.
No one even knows what his real hair color is.

Alexion
Alexion isn't really his name. It's actually his title. When he was human, he was known by another name and has already appeared in a Dark-Hunter story.
Brutally betrayed, Alexion is a quiet man who believes whole-heartedly in talking soft and carrying a big stick. He is truly the angel of death. No one ever wants to face him in the dark of night. Lightning fast, and brutally frank, he never takes prisoners or comprises. After all, you can't bargain with the devil's right hand.
That being said, he has a penchant for expensive clothes and popcorn. Unlike most people in the Dark-Hunter realm, he wears a long, white coat that is his trademark. He has nothing to hide and takes pride in not being what other people expect. There is nothing he treasures more than the company of a willing female and a few hours of freedom from his duties.
His heroine is the Dark-Huntress Dangereuse.
As an after thought. He is one of the first Dark-Hunters created. Ias of Groesia(That might be wrong, he is Ias though). He was killed in battle by his wife's lover(he didn't know that he was her lover at the time). Artemis brought him back as a Dark-Hunter and Acheron found out how to free him. He took Ias to his wife and she dropped the medallion in seconds. Ias died betrayed after finding out that the man who killed him was her lover. Acheron brought him back to life, but he screwed up and now Ias has to drink his blood like Acheron has to drink Artemis'. (Minus the sex).
Acheron was trained by Savitar some 300 years later(Not sure on that number) to use his god-killing powers. Now Acheron can bring people back without screwing up, but he can't fix Ias.

Arien
Arien is another Dark-Huntress. The daughter of a thief, she was born with the gift of second-sight. As a result, she dedicated her life to helping others. Until an angry clansman blamed her for the death of his wife.
Accused of sorcery, she and her father were trying to escape into the hills when she was betrayed by the man who swore he would love her forever. Her father was hanged and she was burned as a heretic.
Since then, she isn't overly fond of men and spends most of her time helping Zoe harass the other Dark-Hunters.

Blade
Blade was born a Saxon peasant who rose to knighthood by the sweat of his brow, and strength of his sword. He has little patience for anyone or anything. A strict loner, he is best contacted by Simon.
As a mercenary for William the Conqueror, he lost his life during the Norman Invasion into England when his lover assassinated him after he made the mistake of trying to get her safely through enemy troops.

Born b*****d to a village wash-woman and a local nobleman, Cael grew up relatively happily and found love early in his life. At least until his father decided to save himself by selling Cael, his wife, and Cael's mother's family to the Vikings as slaves. Only the Vikings didn't want slaves-- they wanted people to practice their fighting skills on. He was forced to watch as his entire family and his beloved wife were killed before his eyes.
Since that day, he's walked the earth bitter and alone. As ruthless as he is fierce, he's taken pride in exterminating any Daimon he can find. His only friend through the centuries has been Ravyn. At least until he found the one person who finally gave him a reason to live. The only problem is, she is the one person he can never have and they both know it. Dangereuse
Named for the grandmother of Eleanor of Aquitaine and born the daughter of a French actress and a French nobleman, Danger grew up on the stage. She loved her life and her parents until the French Revolution tore her world apart. Caught between the two warring factions, she refused to see the noble half of her family killed.
Using her connections in the theater, she tried to smuggle her father and noble half-siblings to England. Her husband was the one who betrayed her into the hands of the Committee. She was killed trying to protect her small brother and sister from the guillotine.
Since she has joined the Dark-Hunters, Danger has, shall we say, an attitude problem. She trusts no one and she has a very special place in her heart for children.
Her hero is Alexion who is a very special member of the DH world...

She is one of the few Dark-Hunters who is also a peace keeper. She attempts to mediate and bring peace between the hot-blooded men who bear our mark.
Then again, she does have a strange fixation when it comes to her guns....

Diego
Diego was the spoiled son of a rich aristocrat. He grew up in the lap of luxury and was given everything his heart desired. At age sixteen, he decided he wanted to be a sailor and his father bought him a ship and hired the best captain to train his son on the ways of the sea.
By age twenty, Diego's activities were less than legal. With the influx of gold from the new world and the stories of riches to be had, he turned his attention to the Aztec nation.
He was reportedly on his way to El Dorado when his second in command decided to hand him over to a group of headhunters. He wasn't happy about that.

Dragon
Dragon is the illegitimate son of a Western merchant and what will later be called a Japanese Geisha. He was trained as a Ninja by his uncle and was betrayed by his Samurai overlord into the hands of his arch-rival.
He still walks the path of the Ninja and keeps himself apart from most other Dark Hunters. When he does interact, it is usually with Talon or Blade. His real name is unknown and the nickname Dragon was given to him because of the red dragon tattoo that marks his left arm.

Esperetta
The daughter of Dracula, Esperetta grew up isolated in a nunnery in the Caucasus. From the moment of her birth, it was decided that she would be a gift to the Church to atone for her father's sins and Retta had no desire for anything else.
Until the day Velkan saved her from a fate worse than death. She fell instantly in love with the handsome warrior prince. There was nothing she wanted more than to spend eternity with her husband.
Until she got to know him better. Unfortunately, then it was too late. She learned that his reputation for sorcery and treachery was well-earned. He was brutal to everyone around him, except her. She couldn't stand his heathen ways and his failure to show compassion and mercy to his enemies.
Worst of all, he tricked her into becoming a Dark-Hunter with him and she learned that there was more to their marriage vows than simple words.

Julian of Macedon (Oracle not Dark-Hunter...)
Julian was born the son of a legendary Spartan commander. Reared in the manner of his Spartan brethren, he knew no love of any kind. His childhood was harsh and unforgiving. As a man, he fought his way to the top and became the most feared Macedonian general of his time. He was the commander who trained Kyrian of Thrace and once Kyrian attained his own command status, the two of them cut a trail of slaughter through the Mediterranean and nearly brought Rome to her knees.
Unfortunately, an act of brutal betrayal brought Julian into direct conflict with the Greek gods and caused him to be cursed into a scroll that was later bound into a book. For the rest of eternity, he is a Sex Slave whose only goal is to satisfy his summoner for the course of a month.
By the way, he's very good at what he does...

Kell
Kell was a Visigoth warrior whose entire tribe was destroyed by a Roman army. He was sold into slavery where he was trained as a gladiator. One of the most feared and successful gladiators of his time, he was executed when he attempted to murder the Roman Emperor Valens.
He plays well with Kyrian, but has sworn to kill Valerius should they ever cross paths. He interacts more with humans than most of his DH brethren and actually plays drums in a local Houston band called War Child.

Kyrian of Thrace
Born prince and heir to Thrace, Kyrian was disinherited when he married an ex-prostitute against his father's wishes.
As a legendary Macedonian General, he cut a trail of slaughter through the Mediterranean during the 4th Macedonian War. Chroniclers wrote that he would break the Roman stranglehold on the known world and claim Rome for his own.
He would have succeeded had he not been betrayed by his wife into the hands of his enemies. He was tortured for weeks and then executed by Valerius's grandfather.

Nick Gautier

He reached out to Artemis only to be betrayed yet again. Now he is technically a Dark-Hunter and technically not. Unlike the others of his kind, his soul is held by his mortal enemy. Not that Nick has any interest in his soul...

Phobos
Phobos who is often referred to as Achilles is the grandson of the great Achilles of Trojan War fame. He was the son of Neoptolemus (Achilles's son who also fought in the Trojan War) and Hector's wife Andromache who was Neoptolemus's concubine after he took her as a prize from Troy.
His name in Greek means "fear" and he was every bit as frightening on the battlefield as his father and grandfather before him. It was said no man could ever slay Phobos and so it wasn't a man.
It was a woman bent on revenge. Using Phobos, she gained access to his brother's palace and when Phobos tried to stop her, she stabbed him through his heart, then killed every living member of his family.
As a result, he has vowed to never trust another woman again. He keeps to himself and is a bane to all Daimon born.

Rafael
Rafael was born the son of a pirate and a freed slave. He grew up on board his father's ship and learned piracy at the knee of some of the most famous pirates in history. He was the youngest member of the Brethren of the Coast. He followed in his father's footsteps until the day his father was murdered.
Rafael vowed vengeance and went after the pirates who were responsible. One by one, he made them pay. Or at least he thought. Once his vendetta was settled, he decided he would retire with the love of his life so that they could enjoy his riches and raise the children he wanted to have. It was on their wedding night that one of the pirates he'd thought was dead returned to exact his own revenge.
And that is what brought him into the service of Artemis.

As lethal as she is beautiful, Sam enjoys her job and lives for the nighttime where she is free to roam the streets.

Sin
Sin was born the Sumerian god of the moon and fertility. He was enjoying his godhood immensely when Artemis tricked him into her service. She wanted his powers and the next thing he knew, he was enslaved by the Greek goddess. As you can tell by his pastimes, he's not real happy about his current situation and dreams of a time when he can regain his godhood and get revenge on the evil goddess who betrayed him.
Pastimes: Dreaming up ways to get rid of Artemis. Extreme skiing, archery (to pick off Artemis), taking potshots at locals and showing Daimons what I would do to Artemis if I ever got my hands on her. My other favorite activity, doubling as a nightlight 'cause I'm glowing in the dark from all the nuclear fall-out that surrounds me.

Jess was orphaned at age five and grew up under the harsh hand of a preacher man who owned the local orphanage. At age eleven, he ran away and headed out west where he quickly learned life wasn't fair and it wasn't easy for a boy with no family.
By age sixteen, he'd learned to make his living as a gunslinger, train robber and card sharp. He lived his life hard and was ruthlessly shot in the back on his way to his wedding by his best man who was the only man he'd ever trusted who wanted to collect the bounty on his head.

Talon
Talon is the son of a Druid High Priest and Celtic Queen. He, himself, was a High Chieftain in Britain who fought back invaders and secured his clan against any and all threats.
After the deaths of his aunt, uncle, wife and son over a short period of time, he was told that his ancient gods had cursed him. That they would plague his sister, his people and his lands so long as he lived. To appease the gods, he would have to be sacrificed to them.
Once his clan had Talon secured to the altar, they killed his sister before his eyes and then turned on him. He gladly ceded his soul for revenge against them.
Unlike the other Dark-Hunters, he is entirely detached from this world. Talon walks between this realm and the next with the help of Spirit Guides.
There are those who speculate that should he ever free his banished emotions, the volatile Celtic blood that flows through him will destroy not only him, but anyone near him.

Valerius Magnus of Rome
Valerius is the son of a Roman Senator. He became a Roman general who led conquests throughout Greece, Gaul and Britannia. For a most obvious reason, he doesn't play well with most Dark-Hunters and it is imperative we keep him far away from Kyrian, Kell, Safrax, Zarek and Zoe.
Val is truly ostracized from the rest of his brethren. Retta has tried from time to time to bring him more into the DH circle, but the older Dark-Hunters refuse to forgive him for his past crimes.
No one knows what brought him into our circle.

Velkan
(Falcon)
Velkan was the illegitimate son of a Hungarian princess and a Moldavian prince who like the infamous Vlad Dracul was a member of the Order of the Dragon. Velkan grew up at his father's side, fighting invaders.
His brothers were captured and enslaved by their enemies when he was thirteen and it was rumored that Velkan (who was believed to be a sorcerer) had been taken too, but rather than be turned into a slave, he sold his soul to the devil for freedom. He vowed that no one would ever enslave or tame him. At age 15, he fought and freed his one brother who still lived.
At 26, he captured a band of invaders who had attacked and ransacked a group of nuns on their way to Trigoviste. There in their midst, he found a novice they had captured who they had intended to rape and kill. She was from Wallachia and was none other than the daughter of Vlad Dracul, one of his father's most hated enemies and rivals.
Before Velkan could hand her over to his father, he fell in love with her and the two were married in secret. They vowed their love would last forever. Unfortunately, forever takes on a whole new meaning in the Dark-Hunter world.
Through an act of betrayal, he and his wife, Esperetta are now bound together as Dark-Hunters, in more ways than one and they absolutely hate each other.

Xander is the illegitimate son of a Gypsy Fortune-Teller and an English Lord. He alone carries a partial soul and is said to be one of the more powerful Dark-Hunters. He was sorcerer in his past life and his powers are still rooted in darkness.
He is one of the very few Dark-Hunters who really knows what Ash is. He is extremely detached from people, except for his Squire, Brynna. When it comes to her, he is very protective.
He hates Daimons with a passion and loves nothing more than kicking their butts. No one knows how he became a Dark-Hunter.

Zarek of Moesia
Zarek was born the unwanted son of a Greek slave and a Roman senator. Moments after his birth, his mother gave him to a servant with orders to kill the infant. The servant took mercy on the child and took him to his father who had no more use for the baby than his mother had so Zarek became the whipping boy of a noble Roman family.
No one knows how he died or why he traded his soul- he keeps it as a well-guarded secret. He trusts no one. He seldom interacts with other Dark-Hunters and when he does, it is always grudgingly and with the utmost disdain for them.
Because of his steadfast denial to follow any orders (even those of Artemis) and his lack of regard for anyone other than himself, he is kept in isolation in Alaska where his activity is seriously limited and closely monitored. There are many who fear he will one day unleash his powers against the humans as well as the Daimons.

Zoe is the daughter of an Amazon Queen. She is one of the very few female Dark-Hunters. Her weapons of choice are a whip and a bow. She strikes fast and plays vigilante with the human police.
