Yes. Band Camp. You love it. You hate it. It's fun. It's torture.
Tell your wonderful stories, good and bad, here.
Elaborate on everything, I know I will!
moderator edit: Band camp discussion of all kinds also goes here. Talk about your school's band camp, leadership camps, places like Interlochen (if anyone recognizes the name), and the like.

Band Camp, is the place to be! Band Camp, is like heaven to me! Our Mello section would scream that every morning before we ran the lake. Ah, the lake...IT SUCKED!
Then the food, which also sucked, except the slushies which were awesome at 8 AM.
The "Injury Tent", where many of my injuries were doctored....
And the Redneck that was driving by to the trailer park that screamed, "Go home, Faggots!"
And when I played taps all by myself when it was raining....
Band Camp... I have much more.

Once summer comes to an end, I live and die band camp. Sleeping out on our field at night, going out with fellow bandies every evening, sectional breakfasts before practice starts. Glorious times. crying I miss them already...

The Mellophonist And the Redneck that was driving by to the trailer park that screamed, "Go home, Faggots!" Heheh...he called you bassoons! (Yes, 'f*****t' means 'bassoon' in German and Spanish.) Anyway, we don't really have a 'camp' with my band, instead we have practices on our school's fields for six hours each day for two weeks...so we call it a band camp.

Band Camp... wow.
One of the practice fields at the camp we went to (Camp Sea Gull, Charlevoix, Michigan!) had NO GRASS.
Therefore, you were marching in a dust cloud in 90 degree heat for hours on end.
At the end of the day, you'd come in and see your tanlines from your socks and be excited about your stellar tan. Then you'd hop in the shower and realize that your "sun" tan was merely a "dirt" tan.
I even got them standing on the podium all day my senior year.
Glad I'm outta there.

I love Band Camp here (New Mexico).
I'm dressed in all black 99.9% of the time, so the freshmen look at me like I'm looney. I just smile back and say:
"It's 105 degrees, high noon, I've had no water, and by all rights, I should have passed out...I love band!"
(And the heat. XD )

Wow... My band camp was more of a three day workshop for jazz and concert bands... But it was fun.
Squeeky bunk-beds. Stars. Sitting outside in the freezing cold until lights out. The lady bug. Kitties. So much more and of course, friends and playing!

Band Camp... Such fond memories.
My marching band went to Wright State University for their band camp. We spent five band filled days there in some dorms that weren't in use.
We would wake up every morning at 6am and head out to the parking lot. We would then do calistenics for warmup followed by about half an hour of basic drills. We would then proceed to march to breakfast. I think they took that part out this year due to too much complaining...
After breakfast came the heart of the practice. We would go out on the field and practice our charts until noon. We would then split up for sectionals. Then we went to our music practice with the whole band. Then we finished off with more chart practice and pre-game practice. Lunch was thrown in there somewhere along with dinner and an hour long break... can't remember where though. sweatdrop
That was my band camp for three years. Such great memories! I hated it when I was there, I miss it now, and I will allways cherish it. It's a sick cycle when you think about it...

band camp was ehh for me....
here's what happened
MONDAY:
Woke up at some time which i forget cuz it was a week ago, and packed up the car and headed to oakview, unpacked everything and moved it about twenty times cuz places were changed, so after the baggage search and the loading of the trucks, we were off in our school busses, basically me n amanda had a good time on the bus ride up, not goin into detail, but yeah, we got to ramblewood and unpacked everything, got our rooms set up and headed to the first practice where we set up farandole, played around with that and went off to dinner, percussion section had cleanup, of course we were the first to be picked, and i was the last one wiping down tables. Went back to the cabin and heard for the first time, the most known words from band camp, DJ ASSAULT STICK, which was a toilet brush, he was being attacked by a toilet brush, soo good. Uhmm, went to practice then off to sectionals, worked on farandole, and as it turns out, i am still the only one who memorized it. O well, after sectionals, we came back to the cabins and me n mandi and about twenty other ppl decided to go swimming, had a fun time at the pool, came back to the cabin and slept on which what i thought was a broken bed.
TUESDAY:
Woke up at some time and got dressed and headed off to calesthetics, then breakfast, came back to the cabin and got ready for practice, headed off and worked on farandole somemore, then before we knew it it was time for lunch, headed to lunch and then went swimming after that, not going to get much into that, another personal section for me there, but yeah, me n mandi went swimming. Headed back to the cabins and there was cheese allover the room, it turns out that dj got a little too carried away with the beatings with the assault stick and decided to retaliate, so he sprayed canned cheese everywhere, then scott attacked him and dj hit him with a mop, so scott chased dj down the hill, who still had the mop and DROPKICKED dj, breaking the mop, after that it turns out that dj had knocked down the pirate flag, (NOOOO) so i got on everyone on the other side of the cabins good side by hanging up the flag again. Went back off to practice and worked on O mio, got that down perfectly, then went off to sectionals. came back, and hung around with mandi then went to bed.
WEDNESDAY:
Woke up in the middle of the night to hear the other side of the cabin singing Spice Girls, and various other songs, i just went back to sleep, woke up later and my back was officially killing me, went to breakfast and then practice with the drumline itself, and i felt soo bad, my back hurt so much, so i finally heard someone say kyle you do realize that your box spring is upside down right? i stared at him and said, ur shittin me, it turns out that it was upside down, so after lunch i fixed it and laid down, i felt sooo good with that, now here is where we had the most fun of the day, we went out of the room and hit it up with our boom box and an aqua cd, and had ourselves a PORT-A-PARTY, we went to the intersection and bounced around there for a while, saw a girl run into their cabin and followed them in. And got all the girls bouncin, headed out with them and went over to the leaders cabin and did the same thing, they didn't like it that much so we left there and headed to the pool, and got more ppl do dance there. headed back up to the dining hall were the cross country teams were and danced around with them, went back to the pool and did some crazy stuff. went back to the cabins and it ended, then i come back out and i see the cross country teams and our school standing there and the cross country team runs away, so i chase after and we have a dance off, so it turns out that we stunk and they told us, " YOU GOT SERVED" so wez came out and started breakdancin, and this girl from their side does so much better, we had to end it. we went back and learned the rest of the drill for farandole, then we had a bonfire that night, i apologized to everyone for stalking the band, they accepted it and it's cool now, so then we went back to the cabins and went to sleep.
THURSDAY:
Had a great sleep and slept late that day, but yeah, went to practice, and learned marche slav drill, went to lunch and then came back to the cabins and headed over to the pole, where it turns out that we were gonna duct tape this freshman to a tree, so we did and covered him in shaving cream, went back to the cabins and headed up to the field with our boom box in our hands with michael jackson's beat it playing, we got up there so fast it was rediculous, learned the rest of marche slav and finished the day with ghost stories, which sounded more like a history class, and had a talent show, where the guys did a song tribute to an instructor, i forget her name, but we sang i want it that way to her, the leaders played eye of the tiger on the trumpets, and ryan renauro did a song parody to megan our drum major. We went back and had a shaving cream fight, another personal moment there, so i'm not gonna get into that, then the seniors went out to the field and had seniors night, i stayed behind, and hung around with chris wolff and other ppl, had fun there, then the guys came storming into the cabin shouting, flip everything upside down, there is a baby monitor in the room, which there wasn't but we did it neway, then i hung around in there and assaulted DJ in the middle of the night, well scott did atlease, he humped him. went to bed at 2.
Friday:
woke up and had a real shitty day, everyone was. Guard left lunch 15 minutes early to practice, and we came up to the field with the boom box playing beat it, had fun there, worked on the drill, and did a couple run throughs, packed up and left the camp. got back and went to see hero that night, i loved the movie, so great.

Our band camp is more of a day camp. Since we have like four football fields on our school grounds, there's really no point to go anywhere. It's ALWAYS the hottest week of the year. (Very end of July into the first week of August. We get to the school at 8am and then week get to go home at 6:30pm. Oh, then the second to last day is 8am to 10:30pm.
Every year I get sun posioning too. I hate it. The last band camp I had on 50spf cunblock and I kept putting it on the whole day and I still got it. AND I WAS WEARING A SUN HAT, LONG PANTS, AND LONG SLEEVES!!! Two years ago I got it so bad on the back of my legs that it turned purple and veiny....
I swear to God it's a literal hell. We have our band director, Mr. S (whom at band camp I like to refer to the "S" as the first letter of Satan.), who stands in the bucket of a cherry picker and yells at us through long rangers that are spread out on the field so you never really know where he's at.
stare So oh yes...band camp is OODLES OF FUN!!.... stare

Band Camp... What's not to like? xd You get to start waking up earlier in the morning and it takes up over a third of your summer! It was the highlight of my summer. I was supposed to go to Cedar Point but decided against it seeing as how I don't even ride the roller coasters or anything and me and my bro always end up in the arcade, and you don't have to drive for hours to play at an arcade.
I had a dumb moment during one of the first weeks of band camp where the upperclassmen were all in parade block showing us what an about face was, and as they were doing it shouted 'W! H! S!' and I stupidly asked 'What the hell does WHS stand for??' to get the reply from my friend 'Whitmer High School, you dumbass.'
Band Camp truly was fun for me though, and getting up earlier than I usually would during summer vacation was not a problem for me since I loved band and would gladly give up a third of my summer for it. During the hour lunch break I get to hang out with my friends, and when we're marching I always run up behind my friends and criticize they're marching xd

oh my gosh! music camp (well cause it has both band & choir) is SSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWSOME!!!!! I can't wait till this summer! We get to be freaks and nobaody will care b/c everyone will act like that too!
Well the first time I went to camp there was a cheerleading camp. I was walking to my concert band "class" and this cheerleader(really stuck up too) came up to me and said that I was awsome b/c i played flute. stare Well when she went back to her friends they all laughed b/c it was a big joke to them. Later on at supper I saw her and showed my friends who she was and one of the guys went up to them and said sarcastically " cheerleading, wow! what a sport! I bet you don't even understand what sport means do you?" She was like well um... what do you mean band freak. The whole dining hall got quiet, and she was so embarassed that she spilt her large moutain dew and two slices of pizza on her cheerleading uniform! She told crying her quard captain and leader(teacher person) and they came up to me and asked me if I had made her do it and I told them my story of what had happened. The two leaders ("oh fearless leader" LOL! sweatdrop ) went back to her and told her she got what she deserved for making fun of musicians and what we do is really considered more of a sport than cheerleading. whee The funny thing about it was that one of them used to be a band nerd too so she knew what it was like! wink
That was one of the most memorable moments i won't forget about being a BAND NERD heart

Freshman year:
We were doing chops (it's a drummer thing) and one girl flashed the seniors and serviced them so she wouldn't have to do chops or any other kind of labor.
Ever since then she wonders why we don't respect her.
Sophomore year:
BD ran over a kid with a gold cart xd
Greg fell over a rock with his bass drum on
Da'Leisha's horn on her clarnet went flying
BD dumped water on a Senior. Senior got revenge by sinking the canoe BD was in. There's a very small lake (more like a pond) that the camp let's us use, and he switched the BD's canoe with an old one with holes in it.
BD sat on a skateboard and rode down a hill.. ended up breaking his toe and has a neat scar on his arm.
And I'd type more but I swear to god I'm about to go cuss out my parents if they continue talking about how much my hair cut PLANS cost. I haven't even gotten it cut. I merely suggested what I wanted it. Gawd they annoy the hell out of me..
uhm.. yeah o.0
