I've been trying to debate over on the abortion thread, but the sheer magnitude of the heartlessness, coldness and utter cruelty there is dragging me down.

That's there only tactic.
They believe they are right and that anything that disagree with them is wrong, no questions asked. Without so much as a shred of respect for the other side, they for the most part, just needlessly fling the most witty, tactless comments they can think of and they do not stop.
In a nutshell, as me and Mira has discussed in the past: They do the exact same thing done to them in ages past. Where women were degraded and looked down upon, they look to us with inferiority.
Their was a time where men were considered superior, hands down please. With the pro-choicers, only an opinion that allows for rampant, unregulated freedom is allowed, hands down please.
Please PM me. I have some dialogue that may amuse you. 3nodding

It's easy to get disheartened talking with the other side.
I'll tell you what is HEARTENING though. My wife and I worked the pro-life booth at the county fair the last week (8 hours over 4 seperate days) and it is SO neat seeing children get so excited over seeing fetal models, ultrasounds and the videos of in-utero babies. Many parents make a POINT of bringing their kids over to see.
We were having a discussion with a gaggle of 12 or 13 year old girls and they were honestly questioning "what if you're too young to have a baby, what would you do?" At that very moment a woman walked up and told the story about how she adopted her son, now 1 year old, in exactly that situation.
We feel sorry for the parents who shield their kids eyes from seeing any of this. It seems disheartening, but there is so much more good going on, especially from the next generations, that there's plenty to feel good about.

I'll tell you what I tell them whenever they go, "Well if they're so right why aren't they ever in the debate?"
Because the Gaian abortion debate is not a debate. It is a joke. You've got about five people asking one person the same question. All five will ask the same question. YOu'll answer it five times, and while you're answering that question five times (because the last four refuse to read it the first time you say it) the ones you've already answered start asking more questions, and when you don't answer immediately, it's, "LOL SHE DOESN'T KNOW BECAUSE WE'RE RIGHT!" It's a sin to have a life. An orange is in fact a vegetable, pro-choice sources can be out of date and biased, but pro-life sources can't even be from the late nineties or a site saying something that contradicts the pro-choice standpoint even if it isn't endorsing either side, you're cruel if you're pro-life, and oh yes, if you're pro-life, you're stupid, and must want to have 10 children.
There is a reason I don't go in there. It's fruitless. The only thing it can accomplish is help fencers realize we aren't as stupid as we're made out to be. Otherwise, it's just plain painful. I literally had a seizure once reading through it. The rampant lack of respect just astounds me, because I know these young men and women are for the most part adults. It may have changed. I haven't been there for a long, long time. But I don't really want to find out. It's very disheartening. It presents a very negative portrayal of the pro-choice community in general.
I'm sorry. This may be very bitter sounding. I'm just so tired of it all.

I agree with lymelady, it's a joke. It's more mud slinging and fighting then actual debating. I don't bother anymore, it's a waste of time and energy.
They think we're incubators? That makes no sense. Theysay we are anti-choice, I never stopped anyone from abortion or anything,ect....They don't respect our choices or us so I have little respect for them (besides the few nice ones here and there that least try to understand us even if they disagree).
Not all pro-choicers are bad or rude but alot of them (unless things have changed since the last time i've been there) in the debates and guilds are. They got mad cause I used an old medical dictionary in a debate once (guess what? My new one says the same things as the old one). And got made when I gave info about adoption (last time I checked that was a choice too).
I stay away cause most of the time it just brings out anger and bitterness the way some of them act.
Galileo Q-that's cool, even if the parents are pro-choice, it could be helpful with science and biology and people at may learn something new.

Thank you for your answers. You reminded me of why I entered into the debate thread in the first place, for the sake of anyone who had not yet made up his/her mind. You also pointed out that it really isn't a debate thread per se, which is sadly true.

But yeah, it's still basically the same ******** of "I'm right and if you disprove me then your source is invalid or you obviously hate women and babies."... Texas, remind me what the issue was, it was a matter of fact... but anyway, Texas forced Talon into a stance of "Well, it's a difference of opinion"- Lol, had her retreating into one of the two untouchable regions- faith and opinion

I kept pushing the point that without right to life all other rights are irrelevant. They kept insisting a: the right to life derives from bodily integrity and/or b: there IS no right to life.

Sorry, but I'm busy lobbying against abortion rights. Why don't they come and stop me, hm? So much easier to sit on your fat a**, isn't it, ladies? lol

Texas Gypsy Could you give me some pointers on how to get started lobbying? Well, if you REALLY want to be a genuine lobbyist in DC, that can be tough. But in the meantime, you can always write to congresspeople, sign petitions and start your own, and even if you don't want to go to law school you can study the same stuff. And I think it's important to work at a grassroots level, volunteering for crisis pregnancy centres and such. A little action goes a long way.

I have to say that there are no abortion mills in this area that I know of, since there's no place to protest.

I heart DC. I was born there, actually.
If they'd just get rid of the politicians the city would be so awesome. Now every time I go I have to keep myself from stalking congresspeople I hate and accidentally pushing them down the stairs.

I've never been to DC. My sister has crying . I was close to it thought. smile
I'm a little dishearten when I saw a pro-choice's sig that said chosen just like every baby should be.
I was once on a pro life website and that say that all baby should be wanted in order to be born is like saying that in order for them to have value is based on if they are wanted or not. (I'm paraphrasing and I hope I made sense. sweatdrop It made sense on the site and there was more to it.) All life has value whether or not it's born.
As far as the abortion debate don't let it get you it has little effect on real life or than making you more stressful. I'm not a very good debater. crying I did once actully debate them on why they were debating. If I remeber correctly someone i think kind of got mad at me. I stay away from it as I usually stay away from the ED.
