Okay, this game is a pretty basic one, just 'cause apparently the people I talked to have never really played/heard of it.
My info on this post is from here Quote: Mafia - a forum game between two groups. The goal of the game is basically to be the last one standing with your group. The best way to learn the game is to play it, so after reading this post, just sign up!
A game is divided into continuously alternating parts: Day, and Night. The players in this game are divided into two groups, the Town and the Mafia.
Town - The majority of the players, usually a rough 75%. These do not know each other, and may only communicate inside the thread.
Mafia - A minority of the players, usually a rough 25%. These do know each other and are allowed to communicate outside the game.
Night - During the Night, the Mafia makes one kill. There is no talk in the thread. After having made their decision, the Mafia PM's the Mod with the name of the person they want dead.
Day - After the Night action is complete, the Mod re-opens the thread and announces the results of the night. The entire group now goes on to decide on whom to lynch.
Lynch - During the Day, every player may vote someone they want to lynch. Once a majority has been reached, this player is lynched and killed. Since the Town is in the majority, the Mafia will of course be pretending to be Town, just as anyone else.
Winning - The winning group is the one that stays alive the longest. The Town's way of killing is through the Lynch during the Day. They must be careful not to be influenced by the Mafia in their voting process. The Mafia's way of killing is through the Nightkill, and through misleading the Town into lynching one of their own. If it ends up at one Mafia, one Townie, the Mafia has won the game.
Since the Mafia seems to have the better of the deal, there are two basic roles that Townies have on their side.
1. Cop - can investigate one person per night by PM'ing the Mod and getting a innocent/guilty verdict.
2. Doc - can protect one person from Nightkill via PM'ing the Mod.
There is a more detailed guide in that link, but this is just the basics. So the town will have a Doc and a Cop, but it is unclear as to what the mafia has, if they have anything at all.
This game will have 10 people, to get you used to the basic principles and strategies behind the game.

Can I edit my posts?
Please don't, as that would prevent everyone from seeing the same information. If you have to edit, please put EDIT: information at the bottom of your post, rather than just going and changing things. I trust that the other moderators aren't going to be editing other people's posts.
And don't delete your posts because that would cause chaos on my end of the rope, and we'd all rather avoid that.. besides, I can tell if anyone's deleted anything.
I'm not going to be online for a day..what should I do so people won't get suspicious?
That's perfectly okay. Real life can get quite busy. Let me know and I'll post it as a Mod announcement. Just be sure you aren't actually lurking..
As a side note, if you are frequently inactive in your posting, or don't post at all without explanation, once the game starts you can still be lynched/nightkilled just like anyone else, and if it gets to a point I will have to Modkill you....and then you will be dead..hopefully this won't happen.

No, the dead do not speak. They are out of the game and cannot reveal anything. I might allow posting as long as it is kept to some kind of minimum and is actual conversation. We've got a bajillion + 1 threads to talk about the newest episode, etc.
Can I post/quote PM's from the Mod to prove my innocence?
No, simply because the point of the game is to prove yourself through your actions and voting, not through outside information.
Can I tell everyone who I am during the game? (usually applies to special roles)
Well, it is usually discouraged at the beginning of most games because the Mafia can then kill you at night. However, it is good for strategy later, say, if you are a Cop and have found the final mafia, you can out yourself in order to help lynch them. If you are a Doc, it is important that you not out yourself until absolutely necessary because you can be killed off and leave the others at risk.
However, Mafia members are trying to blend in with the Townies, so if they were accused of being a mafia by others, they could claim to be another (Townie) character to avoid suspicion.
Can I post information during the night?
No, it is against the rules to post information, or anything, during the night. This is simply because of the Night Actions taking place, and anything posted after the Dusk Scene might contain important information. The Mafia can contact each other by PM by then anyways. This shouldn't be much of a problem.
I feel that the Mod was unfair in a decision. What should I do?
First off, I should hope that never happens, but if it does, please PM me instead of talking in the thread about it, because it may be information that other people shouldn't know. Modding Mafia can be pretty difficult, and since this is my first time as Mod, I'm trying extra hard to keep everything straight.
If you have any questions, please let me know, because I am here to make sure everything runs smoothly.
I'm in the Mafia, but I really don't like being a criminal. Can I just get the other Mafia members lynched?
Technically, this is perfectly possible. However, the goal of the Mafia family is to kill all non-mafia players. Getting your own allies lynched as a joke or because you don't like them is against the spirit of the game, and will likely earn you the lasting distrust of other players. However, attacking your partners is a legitimate (and common) tactic, but it should be done strategically, not spitefully. (Read the next question)
I'm in the Mafia, but one of the other Mafia just voted for me to get lynched! What should I do?
One of the common Mafia strategies is to have some of the family voting against each other, so that if one member gets lynched, the others will look more innocent. This is a natural part of the game, so don't freak out if your fellow Mafioso votes against you.
Can I talk to someone at night or outside of the thread?
As I cannot control the PM's, this is entirely honor system. It is against the rules to discuss anything with anyone at night unless you are in the Mafia (and then you can only PM your fellow Mafiosos). It is also against the rules to contact anyone during the day privately for any reason. Of course, the one person that everyone can PM is the Mod, but please just do it if you have an important question (for instance, about your character, or the rules). I will not really appreciate random PM's..

In this Doctor Who themed Mafia, there are two sides: the Villains, and the Heroes. The Villain's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Hero's goal is to kill the Villains.
At the beginning of the game, the Mod will secretly send everyone their role. The Villains will know each other, while everyone else will only know their own role.
The game has two phases. The first is Night. During Night, the Town can not communicate, but the Villains can discuss and choose someone to murder. After the Mod has received the name of the victim, the Mod reveals the dead player and death scene, and Day begins. (The first Night will have a Modkill of a non-player)
During Day, the Heroes must choose someone to Lynch; they are trying to eliminate the Villains, but the Villains can lead them astray by casting suspicion elsewhere. Generally, players will vote for someone they think is a Villain (the Villains will vote so that they seem to be doing this as well, and might even vote for each other to confuse the Heroes); when a player gets a majority of the votes, they are lynched. Their role/death scene is revealed by the Moderator, and it is once again Night.
The game alternates between Night and Day until either the Villains are eliminated, or the Villains have killed everyone else. If there is a result of one Hero and one Villain left, the Villains have won.
