Why was it that Helaku seemed to keep running into the one gender he had no wish to interact with, especially now? He couldn't remember encountering so many Soquili in such a short time span in ages...since he was a much younger stallion. He was still in the prime of his life, but that life had taken a toll on him. His heart was bruised and battered, matching a wild and ragged exterior. He'd let himself go over the past weeks, and he knew it. He didn't care...it didn't matter anymore.

Her short tail flicked from side to side as the mare pondered about random things. Her father decided to go into one of his "the world is going to end and everyone is trying to eat me" moods. In such situations it was always best to leave the stallion alone and let him recollect himself. "How in the world did I get a father like that?" Amara sighed to herself with a slight hint of amusement in the corner of her voice.
Amara's ears perked up a bit as the sould of approaching hooves distracted her from her thoughts. Her red eyes looked up to see a rather... dare she think it, depressed looking stallion. Quietly she watched as the male seemingly sulked about.

The crunch of foliage snapped Helaku out of his thoughts. His head jerked up, long mane drifting about his face and neck. Bits of leaf and twig stuck out of it, giving him a bit of a wild-hobo look. He stared at the strange mare suspiciously for a long moment before his shoulders slumped. "...What do you want?"

Amara eyed the stallion rather curiously. "To get so fresh air?" She was unsure of what else to say so she just stated the obvious. The stallion was the complete opposite of what her father looked like. Seeing depressed creatures like the stallion before her irked Amara but not in a bad way. She just hated to see anyone sad.
"My name's Amara by the way." She tried to be gentle at least. She didn't want to trend on any more sore feelings the stallion was currently experiencing.

The shadowy grey stallion tossed his head with a snort and gave Amara another distrustful look. "This far out? You must like quite a bit of fresh air then." His tail lashed against his hind legs, and his skin twitched as though harassed by flies. "I'm Helaku."
Honestly, what was with all the mares running into him?

"Well, pleasure to meet you then Helaku." The dark colored mare bowed her head a little in polite greeting. Her tail flicked about uncertainly as she watched the Helaku's tail lash about.
"He must have had some hard times with other mares," Amara thought gentley. She'd seen this scene many times during her travels away from home with her father. Heartbroken stalilions or something akin to it. With a light shake f her head, she set about to finally answer the other's question. "Yes, I rather do like long walks. My father is in one of his less then sociable moods so I often go off to explore the lands around here."

"I wish I could say the same, miss Amara, but circumstances don't allow such I'm afraid," Helaku replied. "One must wonder why, since you make no mention of a mother," he continued in an acid tone. Anyone who knew him would have been shocked and horrified at his actions, at his words. Only if they had seen him during his previous heartbreaks would they understand.

Amara tilted her head to the side slightly. Her dark red eyes showed no sign of contempt or anger at the later remark. The mare was not one to anger too easily, especially when it came to family matters. "I don't remember my mother really," Amara started slowly. "My father met her and rather liked her. But right when I was born, a close companion of my father chose to go and travel to far away lands. My father chose to follow and as a foal, I too had to follow."
The wind blew a gentle breeze that ruffled the mare's mane slightly. "I don't remember my mother... or my brother for that fact. I haven't seen them in a very long time. I don't even know if they'd remember me." Amara shrugged lightly and looked at the clouds above.

Helaku shook his head, finally allowing sadness to show on his features. "You're lucky..." he said quietly. "One of my daughters left too, with her. Another believed that it was her fault...and also left to join the stallion that her mother so disapproves of. My son does not know...yet." His head hung low. "Mares have been nothing but painful to me, and I have been naught but a failure as a mate."

Quietly Amara approached the stallion and touched her muzzle to his. "I see. Well then, I suppose that the two of us shall share a part of the other's burden and past." The mare backed off and chuckled lightly to herself thinking of the words that just came out of her mouth. "Strange. Of all the things to talk about, my family was one of the last ones I thought I'd ever speak about."

Helaku stiffened at the touch, and his eyes widened so much that a ring of white could be seen around the irises. Some of it was shock, but so much more was pure terror. Mares could be kind, yes they could, up until the moment they ripped your heart out. Backing up a few quick steps, he shook his head to try and shift his thoughts into some sense of order. "I...I suppose. I...didn't really think I'd be talking about mine. Especially to...a mare."

Amara watched as Helaku backed off a few quick steps away from her. "Ah..." She bowed her head a little at the stallion. "Sorry. I must have brought about some bad thoughts for you. I'll try to think before I act next time."
Amara slowly raised her head and gave a soft smile of sorts. "Talking is good though. Its good to talk about things that trouble you, even if to a stranger. Slowly, as you talk, you release a part of yourself that has become a heavy burden upon you. In time, things heals, though certain scares will certainly remain, at least one came move on with their lives."
Dark eyes watched as a butterfly in the distance quietly fluttered about. "Ah, but don't think too much about what I just said," Amara quickly responded. "I don't even know if there's any truth to those words. The world is uncertain like that."

"It's okay, I think..." Helaku said hesitantly. "It just...hasn't been long, and it hurts, and..." Realizing he was rambling, he trailed off into silence. Composing his thoughts, he took a deep breath before continuing. "I apologize for my earlier behavior. Mares...have been nothing but trouble, in the end. Nothing but pain. There were good times, but...it is still hard to trust. I don't know how long I'll be like that. Females are an unknown, painful quantity." His head bowed a little further. "If this offends...I understand."

"No offense taken what so ever," the mare replied kindly. "Truth be told, it doesn't matter what gender you are, or what creature you are for that matter. Everything is capable of hurting others and loving others as well." Amara smiled lightly as she looked at the sky.
"I'm sure one day you'll be able to find someone. Not necessarily as a mate but perhaps someone you could at least trust again. Good things come in small steps is what I say."

"I guess..." Helaku sighed, also turning his golden-orbed gaze up to the sky. Strands of his long dark mane fell across his eyes, partially obscuring his vision. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't notice. "But it seems that love is a fleeting thing, to be followed by the hurt of its loss. When you realize that you must wonder if it's all worth it...if any of it is worth it. My foals are grown, my mate has left me...none need me anymore."
