So you can now play as a Pokemon Trainer. You have at your disposal three Pokemon: Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard The Trainer sits in the background while his Pokemon fight. You can rotate between the three, just as I've listed. Don't worry, they all share a single life meter. Also, if you keep a single Pokemon out too long or swap them out too often a hidden stat, "stamina," will start to degrade. I assume this means that they'll start to take more and more damage during the fight unless you swap them out appropriately. I'm guessing each of the three Pokemon will have individual move lists, other than the transformation move, and will be varied in their stats. Squirtle will be the agile one, Charizard will be the strong brute, and Ivysaur will be the middle of road. Should make for an interesting character to play with. Also, Pikachu has unofficially officially been confirmed for a return.EDIT: Enjoy the picture but ignore my ignorance here. :Sweat: Whelp, enjoy. I know I have. ^^

Amazing-Ness287 wait, what? wasnt there a pikachu update already? It was 330 in the morning when I posted that. I woke up this morning thinking to myself, "The idea of using a Trainer is pretty cool. Wait.... Did I say that this was the first confirmation of Pikachu?! I'm a moron." sweatdrop

I didn't see it coming either. Just goes to show how much Sakurai is Mindgaming the @#$% out of us.
It's a nice, welcome update from the norm though. It could be fun, but I don't see myself using these guys that much.

I'm not sure if I"ll use this one often or not. To me, it's just to save space for some random characters nobody wants. I wish they'd lose the stamina thing because if you ask me, you should get to play as whatever that hell Pokemon you want however long you want, not just a few seconds or whatever.

Just speculating, but I think that when they say that stamina will degrade they mean that the attacks will do less damage, such as when someone spams one move in melee. The idea of the pokemon trainer seems kinda mad to me, but I guess it's not surprising seeing how much of an influence they (pokemon) have in the series.

I don't believe in tiers btw... It all depends on the person. Use the characters to your advantage. Also, no offence to Pokemon lovers but Pokemon trainer kind of looks like a lame idea.(my opinion)

D i v i n i t y I don't believe in tiers btw... It all depends on the person. Use the characters to your advantage. Also, no offence to Pokemon lovers but Pokemon trainer kind of looks like a lame idea.(my opinion) Alright, let's say that we have two players who are experts with all characters in Melee. You're trying to tell me that one player using Mr. Game & Watch or Pichu will have odds of winning that are just as high as a player using Fox or Sheik? We could go to another game for a side example, one I know plenty about; Soul Calibur. In Soul Calibur III, a player using Rock or Talim would be ruthlessly crushed by a player using Sophitia or Cervantes. The difference in speed and strength, regardless of how "fun" a character is to play with or how "cool" they look, makes it so that odds are stacked greatly in favor of the latter player. Here's a quote I've found while surfing the Interweb... Quote: Statement: Tiers exist, and they do matter. Reason: It is impossible for a game to be perfectly balanced. There are characters that will be better than others, or at least have a bad match-up against. This comes into play obviously. If you play a character who does 1 point of damage per hit, and has to be next to the other character to even hit them while I'm doing 10dmg per hit from a few feet away, I will be working a lot less in order to win. If I work harder than you, I'll definitely win.

Tires don exits!!
stare
I'm sure there are only 5 people in the guild who will get that (myself included).
Anyway;
Myself being a Ganondorf player; Tiers exist solely for the purpose of an "ideal" matchup, given the characters weakness' and strengths.
Idealy, a Fox pro should cream a Ice climbers pro. But don't tell Chu Dat. wink
My final say; It's the individual, and how the individual uses the character. This isn't soviet Russia, where the tiers use you. wink

indeed. each character has their own strengths and weaknesses against a certain other character. there's no low tier or high tier, just different strengths and weaknesses. same goes with sc III, which i've played the crap out of, had my save data corrupted somehow, and then did it again on a new card, lol. meh, still haven't re-beaten strife yet though, pretty much just got up to him yesterday.
