I just started their first book. It's pretty good... has anyone here read anything of theirs?

I here totally recommend her books. She writes really well, such that you love and hate her characters at the same time. I guess that's her main strength, writing life-like and very believable characters with strength and flaws.
I'd recommend The Liveship Traders Trilogy, for unique and interesting plot.

I read the Liveship trilogy, and had to force myself to finish it ('cause I can't stand leaving a story undone). It's the only work of Robin Hobb's that I've read, and it didn't leave me wanting to read more.

I read the Assassin trilogy, and it was really good. Majorly gripping, I swear I couldn't put it down, and it was all I was thinking about until I finished them. Granted, the ending of the series wasn't necessarily my flavor, but an excellent series overall.

What I admire about Robin Hobb's writing is it is very immersive. She really details the environment in such a way that I lose myself in the universe.
I haven't read the Tawny Man series, but intend to as I've read the Farseers and the Liveship traders. I'm not sure I'll get around to reading the second Liveship series, if ever.
I read her other series (which starts with Shaman's Crossing), and while set in the far distant past, before Farseers, it was refreshingly different. There is little to associate it to the world Fitz grows up in, other than the Kings Road.

Seirya What I admire about Robin Hobb's writing is it is very immersive. She really details the environment in such a way that I lose myself in the universe. I certainly share this thought, the description in the books is absolutely fantastic, and is something that is truly important in fantasy.
I also like that all her books are set in the same world, so each time you pick one up, something is added to your perception of the place she has created, and after you have read several, you begin to have your own understanding of how it all works.
