I never used to be an atheist. I actually grew up Catholic and didn't like it. During high school some people tried to convert to Christianity and I pretty much told them to screw themselves. I was searching for a religion to 'belong' in and well, there's a lot them I read about but didn't want to get involved in. I particularly like LaVeyan Satanism (only since it makes sense to me). Then I thought about all the rules and regulations of every religion I looked at. It's much easier for me not to have a religion. I believe in science but not as something to pray to or worship.

Hope I didn't bore anyone with my rambling....

Im a LaVeyan Satanist biggrin , which means Im atheist. And yes, this religion basically is about common sense. Although, I have been doing a great deal of thinking and I don't think I can consider myself a Satanist. I don't really believe in magic or ritual. I just agree with the basic philosophy: Indulgence instead of abstinence. Also, to live your life to the fullest, here and now for I do not believe in an after life. But yeah, there are many things about Satanism I don't agree with such as magic and ritual and the fact that Satan symbolizes pride, intelligence and freedom or something like that. I never really believed in god or satan so to me, they don't symbolize anything for they are non-existant to me.

I myself am an atheist and have been one for a couple years now. I had also grown up Roman Catholic too, but I had found that it wasn't quite for me and that a lot of their beliefs didn't make sense or seem to follow logically to me. I had also tried a whole bunch of different religions, and I had researched even more religions than I tried and I found that none of them were quite right for me.

It has become my understanding through my own research into satanism, that it is not necessary at all to view that satan and/or god exist in order to see satan as a symbol. It has become my opinion that it is not that satan himself symbolizes these things, but more so the idea of satan, as it was created by humans, that symbolizes these things.

I'm in Atheist.

There wasn't much to it.

I was raised on Science and Logic. It's a nice way of life... I don't think about religion a lot. Life is simple not having to conform to a religion with certain practices and such.

It might not be good for some though, knowing that nothing is waiting to greet you when you die.

But that's what is good about it, because you can only rely on yourself. You control your own destiny. There is no divine plan. There is no divine forgiveness. You must live with your own consequences.

Well, I'm not an Atheist, but frankly, I prefer Agnostics to Atheists. Agnosticism is (I believe) the only truly Scientific path.

I am agnostic believing there is some kind of god. Atheists who say they don't believe in a god because of logic and science tend to bother me. This may be because anyone who has ever discussed that point with me also tried to imply that I was stupid for believing in something that "doesn't exist"

Im LaVeyan Satanist/Chaos Magician with minor pagan influences. I don't believe it possible for intelligience to extend beyond a biological vessel, so that makes me atheist. But if it weren't for that, I don't think I could consider myself atheist. I don't believe it impossible for unintelligient souls to exist(didn't say it possible either). I am sceptical of magic(same as the soul), but I don't really care one way or another if my magic affects only me, or the world around me as well.

I think 'non-comformist' fits me best.

If that was confusing, I am terribly sorry. That was as clear as I could type it.

I was once a chrsitian, until I realized how destructive and dark it is (in my opinion.) Then I switched to Atheist for a couple months, and now, a couple of days ago, I realized how empty I was without something to beleive in. And I discovered buddhism, and soon, will hopefuly be a buddhist, just a plain, wetern, buddhist. biggrin

Destructive and dark? Which form of Christianity are you aquainted with, out of curiosity? It's hard to generalize about such a diverse faith, so I'm curious what specific sect you ran into that you came to this conclusion. In some respects, I think what you get out of any religion depends on how you choose to read it; you could even twist Buddhism to being something destructive and dark if you fixate on certain schools of it.

Well... I was just a basic christian. Read the bible, prayed, tried to spread his word...

And then I realized how bad the world was, and how the bible mentions very little of Science. I realized if the was a God, he wouldn't need worshipping. If he loved his creations, he wouldn't confuse us with different religions and wouldn't condemn those confused to Hell. If God was forgiving, he wouldn't punish all the woman on the Earth with labor pains and periods for what Eve did. If there was a loving God, he wouldn't have handed the world of to Satan. Or if he didn't, he wouldn't have had the world become incapitated with hate and darkness.

Along with that, common concepts of the bible go against PROOF. Like the bible doesn't contain anything about dinosaurs. It says nothing of evolution. It says God created the universe, but I don't beleive that...

So... as you can see, many things made me think christianity is bad.

That is the same reason I got off the christianity boat. I had my mom, a methodist that took me to church each week, and my dad that had science magizines around the house.

Eventually, I began reading the science magazines instead of the bible. Science makes more sense to me. It can be tested and proven. The supernatural can't. I'm sure there is something out there that created this world. I love applying science to relgion. It is just the way I grew up.

That's half what I am. I can't say I'm atheist because I don't disbelieve in a higher power, but I'm not agnostic because I don't believe in one either. I'm not a sceptic either because I don't criticize religion. I think it's really good for most people.

An agnostic is one who believes it impossible to know anything about God or about the creation of the universe and refrains from commitment to any religious doctrine.

I guess by that definition I'd be agnostic, but I believe it's possible that it's possible to know, so I don't know what I'd be.

Ahaha, I suppose yes and no for me. Like a lot of the time I feel atheist but then I also sometimes actually do feel like there are deities, if only because I'm so used to it. I still have all my stuff that I used for worshipping Bast, when I did (I sort of stopped doing that twice - both times because I was doubting my beliefs). I generally ACT like an atheist, though; I "default" to it, I suppose. I suppose I'm not sure whether there's a god or not, but that science and logic and secular stuff make more sense to me than most supernatural explanations for things, so I choose to live my life with the assumption that there IS no god, even if I wish there was.

Deity doesn't have to be supernatural. Heck, if you define it that way, I'd lean to Atheism by default also.
