..for a dog to have "that time of the month"?

Because today my mom found out my dog was "bleeding" when she was giving her a bath. Not too long ago she ran up to me and started to cry (she never did this before), I looked at her feet and they were covered with blood =( My mom cleaned her up a bit.

Does anyone know if this is just a normal phase in a dog's life? My mom says I shouldn't worry, but I am worried. sweatdrop

From what I'm reading, yes. Which isn't too terribly surprising. Our rabbit had bunny periods.

Though it's not so much "that time of the month" as estrus.

and I'd crawl to you baby and I'd fall at your feet and I'd howl at your beauty like a dog in heat

So I don't really need to worry about it? =O Thanks for the link too. Maybe I should show the site to my mom.

I guess this explains why she barked at me when I was trying to pick up a slipper to put in the shoe rack =/

I think this is a sign you need to spay your dog when the episode ends.

Yes yes, please spay your doggy. D:

But yeah, just like peeka says, I hear it's normal for animals to have periods. I always wondered why our cat never did until I remembered that dur, she's spayed so she won't.

And I hope you guys go to the vet anyway, though, just in case. :B

Yeah...

So if we do get her spayed, all this will stop and she'll get back to normal?

Female dogs come in heat once every six months. The first week is when they're coming in heat, and it's when they bleed. The second week is when they're ready to be knocked up, and the third week is when they're going out of heat. I know all this because I breed Yorkshire Terriers. (:

Usually when you spay or neuter an animal, they go back to normal because their hormone levels are back to normal, and not through the roof wanting to continue the natural cycle of living and reproduce.
