It's all fine and dandy that he likes to protect things, but please, let Saber do her job!
And one point, I remember it being too much to watch. He just seems so...ugh whats the word..vulnerable!
Now if I had a servent, now that would be a different story....

It does get a tad annoying how naive he is. He should have realized by now that he can't protect everything. If Saber can't do her job, how will they get the Holy Grail? Shirou annoys me.. stare

Yup. I think, though (hopefully) as the story progresses, he does step back a little more, and if he does join in, hes doing something half useful (or hes just complaining how 'he can't do anything' and how hes 'so useless blah blah blah') I do remember also, several times, screaming at the screen when he tried to tackle things alone.

I agree with you on that one...Shirou is a bit of an idiot. I don't like him so much, because he's so plain. He doesn't have a sense of style. It's most utterly boring. If I had a servant, things would be much different as well. I would care about them, yes, but I wouldn't restrict them from doing their job. I'd probably also find a way to fight alongside them. If you watch into the later episodes, Shirou does do something useful.

I guess Type-Moon was trying to show the irony in how he acts now and what he becomes. *spoiler what i mean by that is him becoming Archer.* He has no actual thought when it comes time for Saber to fight because he's relying too much on Avalon when he does. I don't know if he's doing it intentionally or it's just him thinking he's lucky. I know he has motives to save everyone but he really should think about that fully...

Avalon is the scabbard that's inside Emiya that gives him the power to replenish his body/life force that his dad put inside of him to save him from the 4th Holy Grail War. I had to do some research on that, though they mentioned it in the anime, i didnt understand what Avalon was also, but that's what it's really called. Remember how Saber had to take it out of him? She needed to take the Scabbard (Avalon) out of him so she can be at full strength

Well, even if he is an idiot, he knew that he was relying on Avalon too much because how many times did he actually die in the series? But he has his moments too. I guess it's just because that he doesn't just really try to think about stuff... But he's still an idiot. stare

I guess you can call it the REVERSE butterfly effect. You may be cool in the future but in the past, you can cause yourself to be *tries to bite ear* estuped. erh!

Why don't we look at it this way at the begining of the series his a complete dumb a** who doesn't understand anything. Then as the series goes on he eventually gets it in his head that Saber is there to protect him not the other way around.

Oh, I remember reading about Avalon now. I just didn't realize it was in the anime. But anyways, do you know what episode that happens in? Because I honestly don't remember that happening yet. I'm only on like 15 I think..

They only mention it right at the end of the series, like ep.23/24.
I think he just gets stabbed too much. I lost count after a while.
Funny though, he gets stabbed, and has massive gashes in his side, but sometimes he just refuses to die.
And *spoiler* Rins the same. I thought she was a goner when she got stabbed, but noooo, it just magically heals overnight.

Well Shiro is in Love with Saber. So you can't really blame him for wanting to protect Saber. But then again, he ain't a Servant. He's a Master. Let the servant fight and protect, not the other way around. But this is another reason why I love Fate/Stay Night
