"Yes!" the young cub cried in joy leaping from his home into the pridal grounds. His mother was in such a good mood today she had actually let him leave the home to actually be with other lions ...or at least, by himself. It was the first time this had happened to him.
The young cub, Orifiel, leapt in the air, snapping his jaws at a locust just for the fun of it. He landed hard and paused for a moment. Eh? He cautiously looked down at his paws. His mother constantly reminded him about his condition and how easy it was for him to bruise and bleed. He had several bruises already, as a matter of fact. But his paws looked fine to him, so regaining his confidence, he trotted on gaily towards the river where he had once seen cubs playing in hopes that he might find the same sort of fun they had found. It was quite near where the forest began but not within it. The exit was through that forest. His mother had taken him out there once...

Alake was annoyed. No, no... Not annoyed. Angry. Yes, angry was a good word. Her parents never listened to a thing she said. All they did was listen to her stupid sisters! It was soo not fair! The sheer unfairness of it alone had put her in a bad mood, and she didn't feel at all guilty for slipping away from her family when they weren't looking.
Probably to busy with her sisters to even notice. Hmph!
She wasn't going to admit she was lost, but didn't claim to know where she was either. It was no cause for concern, at least not yet. She had no intention of going back to them any time soon. For now, the shade of these trees suited her just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Who was coming toward her?
The curled up cub creeped an eye open lazily. Seeing it wasn't anyone of importance (meaning, her daddy coming to get her and apologize), she closed it again.

Ori took the time to drink from the blessed coolness that was the river. There were no cubs here or much else really but he was sure they would come soon. But then he noticed a small little fish swimming in the water, curious and yet scared of his tongue. He grinned with glee and thought of the amusement it could provide. Ori pounced at it, splashing himself in the process and continued to do so although he had made the water so murky that it was really only his mind telling him it was still there. His paw closed around something slippery and he pulled it up ...a rock?
He sat back on the shore rather downcast. That wasn't as fun as he'd thought it'd be. But then he got a brilliant idea. Making all that racket must have attracted some attention! He'd go hide in the shade of the trees over there and then, when they were all confused about the noise, he'd pop out and surprise them. Yes, that's what he'd do. After all, his mommy said, no one liked a scaredy cat. So by surprising them, he'd be like just the opposite!
When he approached he noticed there was already a cub in the shade. Was she hiding too?

If it was possible, Alake became even more frustrated. How completely, totally, absolutely obnoxious for someone to come ruin her beauty sleep! Not that she needed a whole lot of it. She was gorgeous already.
It was still rude! she decided. She had finally willed herself to open both eyes and even raise her head to yell at the wrong-doer, only to find he was already coming toward her.
"Hey!" she snapped at him. "Keep it down, will ya?! Jeesh!"

she wasn't hiding...? Now he felt at a complete loss. There had been words in his mouth but now all he had was the open mouth. He closed it and tried not to stare dumbly. After all, her response wasn't one that he had been going for ...then again, she hadn't been his objective anyway. He decided a new game. Was she fun or not?
Radi'Utengo, his waterbuck babysitter, told him that if a female yelled at you, they're evil ...or they needed to be put in their rightful place. He wasn't sure what place that was but he guessed if she was being mean, this spot wasn't it. Then again, Radi thought Ori's mom was evil too. But really, she had only made him Ori's babysitter in return for his life ...so he could have been dead.
"I'm sorry..." he said finally. He couldn't manage to work up the courage to tell her she was in the wrong spot. "Well... I... well, I mean to hide here." He nodded firmly.

Alake stared at him with an expression that would read out: Are you stupid? It seemed like he was. What kind of idiot would hide here? "That's stupid," she informed him flatly. Sometimes you had to point out the obvious to the... slower lions, she was coming to learn.
"First of all, there's nothing to hide from." Even if there was, hello! Lions! Top of the foodchain, duh! "Second, this obviously isn't a good 'hiding place', don't you think?" If it was, she wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

He furrowed his brow. Well maybe because she had been sleeping, she had no clue. "Well I was splashing and I thought..." he frowned a little teary-eyed, barely holding them back. It was as if she had torn his plan to shreds ...or well... she had certainly done something to it because now he saw how foolish it was. Maybe Radi was right. Maybe she was evil. After all, he didn't see the likelihood of her moving to be very high so the only option left was that she was evil. He looked slightly horrified at her, trying to imagine the horrible things she might suddenly try to do. All involved him being dead and in most, decapitated in some form.
He was acting foolish but he had no previous interaction aside from Laini and Radi that he had no clue how to be. And so far, his first one wasn't going too swell, was it?

Alake was still young and knew nothing of the evils the world outside the Unity Walker held. There were probably some inside the pride itself, too, somewhere. In time she might learn, but for now all she could do was guess the other cub was thinking of something completely different.
Seeing his teary eyes, her own rolled in a circle. She hated when boys cried! In fact, when girls cried, too. She would only resort to crying to try and get something. Not that she'd had to resort to that. Yet.
"Fine, do whatever you want," she said suddenly. "But the only thing you'll accomplish by spalshing is getting wet."

"Well, I am wet," he said and laughed at the obvious. "But you don't seem to enjoy having fun very much." He frowned with a disappointed look of someone who had been experimenting on lab rats for months with electrical shocks only to have them randomly walk back on the shocks again. As a matter of fact, aside from her coat, she seemed very... dull. His momma always kept busing and he always tried to do the same, no matter how confined his space so that her laying here wanting to be ignored seems ....foreign to him. Did she even ever do anything?

"Fun? Tch."
Who cared about that? Not Alake! And sure she did things! She'd walked out here, hadn't she? She slept, too. And ate when people brought her food. That was doing plenty. So there.
"I was 'enjoy'ing myself just fine till all your racket. Are you some orphan or something?"
Where WERE his parents?!

He furrowed his brow in a mix of confusion and disbelief. "If you say so..." Gosh, were all girls like this? No fun, only naps? What a waste of time ...and life. "No, of course I'm not an orphan." he said, not quite sure what that meant. "Why? Do only orphans know how to have fun?"
He was on the defensive and didn't quite know why he needed to be. Or for that matter, why he was still bothering with her. She couldn't understand the concept of fun, would much rather be locked up in a den all day with sleep as the only real option? Why, then, weren't their situations switched, he agonized.

Alake never liked to admit she didn't know things, so she usually just didn't say anything. This was one of those times. The cub shrugged her brown-colored shoulders. She'd never actually met an orphan. How should she know?
"If you're not an orphan, your parents should be out here watching you and teaching you some manners. Spalshing others is very rude!

"But I wasn't splashing anyone," he said defensively. Then a thought crossed his mind and he shrugged like nothing that had happened even mattered. "But that's alright. Whatever. Now I understand why you're the only one over here. Because no one wants to be around you." Yup, he was his mother's son alright, fighting with others because he felt vulnerable and attacked.
"Manners must not be everything because you need to work on your social skills." They were basically the same thing, being polite and being able to hold an intelligent conversation. Then again, cubs were never expected to know these things and really on average, weren't taught this until they were a little older.
Ori turned and walked back towards the water. He was pretty mad, more so at how the situation had turned out than at her. His plan had failed. It had gotten him to interact with what he now believed to be an evil "cubbess" and had not the results he expected: lions/cubs coming to investigate. Well, if she was the only one around, he might as well have fun and not worry about what she thought.
Orifiel stared down into the water. Now where is that fish?
((so that's impatient, influenced Ori in a nutshell ...being mean to little children ...yea, he wasn't as nice as I had hoped he'd be xD;;; ))

(Haha. XD)
Oh, p-lease! As if she cared what some dumb boy like him thought! He probably was an orphan and just lying. His parents probably ditched him, she thought and shook her head, stretching back out. Her eyes closed again and she tempted to lure her mind back into sleep, now that he was leaving.
...Wait. He hadn't left. She could still feel him around.
The cub opened both eyes and lifted her head, growling in frustration at the sight. He was going to splash her again?! Oh-ho! Well, TWO could play at the game of being a jerk!
She got on all fours, stepped back juuuust a little, and then dashed forward, fully intent on running into the other cub and knocking him down into the water.
Since he loved it so much!

Well, there was no real sign of the fish. Maybe he had been too loud and had scared it away. Darn! Well, not like going after a fish was the only thing to do around here. And the water was pretty cool
Splash! and now he was doused in it? Had this been a playful occasion, he would have had the spirit to laugh. Under the circumstances, he didn't have the courtesy to take it in such a manner. He leapt to his feet and spun around, the culprit just who he thought it was. Ori wasn't too good at hiding that he was up to something and a sly, mischievous grin crept across his face as he planned the returning volley. Rather unoriginal, he went for the same move, leaping forward, placing his paws on her shoulders and pushing her into the water. He half expected to see her squirm in disgust in the water.
