We all know that you play bass, thats why your here. But why do you play not putting down on bass just bored and wanted to here some stories this could be an interesting question you never know, haha.
So in this thread tell things like why you started playing, why you continue playing and anything related.
I started cause I figured itd be easier and less over done than guitar. and I had someone who could teach me, but that changed and he stopped teaching after like the first time
I kept going cause being in a band is fun to jam with friends, and if we come lucky enough I won't have to work for life and I hate work

I decided to look into it because I thought that there were too many guitar players in the world. After the first time I touched one I was in love. I went out and bought one, and screwed around with it, loving every minute. Now it's all I do. I've tried a lot of instruments, but I never got that much into any of them.

1. Because the ladies like it
2. Because you can get away with growing a beard more than any other band member
3. Because my hands are a bit too big for guitar
4. I was too lazy to pick up piano at the time
5. I like the lower sound
6. You need to worry about distortion and effects a whole lot less
7. Good bassists are more valuable than great guitarists
8. It's alot easier for me to make up bass lines than guitar riffs
9. Chords were a pain in the neck at first
10. Why wouldn't someone want to play bass? Every guitarist I've ever been in a band with want to play my basses.

I liked the bass line in the song "sliver" by Nirvana, so i picked up my brothers bass, got the tab off the net and ive been playing ever since.

My friend was starting a band and asked if I wanted to play bass. That's why I got started.
To be honest, I just like being able to play an instrument.

I picked up bass because i got mad at my school for kicking me out of keyboard class. they had this uber gay rule about you have to take that before guitar. so i never got to take guitar class. my mom is a music teacher so we had an Ibanez GSR190 just lyin around not being played cause she stopped teaching bass. so i said i wanted to play guitar. i didnt know what a bass was at first. i found out it was a bass and got some tabs for bass. my next door neighbor plays guitar so he told me how to read tabs. i then figured out iron man with tabs. i thought it was cool so i learned another song. and it just built from there. soon i started using my ear and i stopped usin tabs for every song. now i only use tabs for emergency when i cant figure out the bass line on something. its just amazing. now i dont know why i used to not play bass. so pretty much i started cause i was mad.lol

heh heh
i was the fat little loser kid in primary school and such
and when i went to highschool i was like
been watching too many movies
and thought, if i went there and was all like
cool i would be popular
so i started to learn Guitar, cos my brother had one and never played it
then my guitar teacher was like
your fingers are just too big for guitar, you'll never be able to play it that easily
so he brought in his bass
Vintage Mexican P bass from the 70's
i played it
i fell in love
and i was saving for an electric, and i had enough money to get a good quality Monterey and a Practise amp
and wouldnt stop playing
and all i could do was the 12 bar blues thing
that was about two years ago now
and now
its all i think about
well

and Bass helps me with the last one... cool
and is usually what i'm talking about

argh, and i forgot the name of that Bassist who played with Chic Corea, with Spain namely
so, i'm pretty proud of myself
and i basically started cos i thought it would be cool
and i got towed under by its seductive awesomeness

i play the bass because i have long arms and big hands, and i like the sound of deepitude. also i thought that it would be easier for me if i played an instrument with less strings than a guitar because well im not gonna go detailed

I found out it existed and wasn't just a 4 string guitar. So I started to listen to my step bro playing bass, and then I had a celeb crush on Jerry only and dicided to get one for my self.

I play bass because I enjoy it, I like the rumble, and I like to just groove out on them. I am a bassist because I was told by a monk I would die if I quit, and just like breathing I'm not just ganna stop breathing just to try to see if I can prove someone wrong.
