The roughest of all possible rough drafts of the prologue to something I was writing. Thought I'd post it here to back up my claim that this prologue is A) really bad and B) still better than WrestlingLover's entire "book" will be. rofl

Prologue :: Assassins

The shadowy figures in the darkness moved quietly and unseen, silent as the calm night air itself. A blonde man approached the front gate of the estate, checking for any guards patrolling the grounds before giving his team a signal to advance. There were at least fifteen navy-clad, lance-wielding troops walked the outer courtyard.

“The king does overprotect his daughter. Fifteen men on the grounds alone. There must be at least forty more inside,” the man muttered. “Rose, if you would?”

“But of course.” A chestnut-haired woman stepped forward. The moonlight’s reflection on her skin made her appear ghostlike. She closed her eyes and spoke very quickly in a language none of the others understood and a jet of fire erupted from the middle of the courtyard. She performed a spinning gesture with her finger and the fire began to whip itself at the guards, burning them on contact. After setting fire to them, she made a slight throat slash motion and the flames receded into the ground, leaving no evidence they had ever been there, save the guards running frantically around trying to put the fire out. “Luckily, I had the foresight to perform a silencing spell earlier today.” She smiled slightly and pushed the gate open with an overly grand motion. The rest of the group followed Rose and the blonde man into the estate courtyard.

“You all know the plan, correct?” Rose turned to face the small group of assassins in the courtyard. “We are to infiltrate the Delacqua royal family’s estate and eliminate the child while the king and queen are in Vassere. Remember to make the death appear as though a Vasserian assassin did the deed. If this is clear, I’ll turn it over to Seele.” The blonde man began to speak in a deep voice that had power even without much volume behind it.

“I don’t care what you have to do, just make sure you kill the girl. If you hear someone coming, abort the mission and burn the place to the ground.” The assassins dispersed to each entrance, proceeding as silently as they had been arriving at the estate. The next few minutes were dead silent. Seele heard a horse approaching in the distance. “Rose, give the abort signal. We’ve been forced to use our backup plan.” At that, Rose shot an emerald flare into the sky and the assassins flooded out of the mansion.

“Are there any versed in magic among you?” Rose asked the assassins. Four of them stepped forward. “You four are with me. The rest of you, return to San Della Spada immediately.” The assassins without magical ability quickly exited the scene. “As for you four, we are to burn down the estate, like so.” Rose began chanting an incantation softly and quickly, as though she was trying to keep the approaching horseman from hearing. The other four assassins invoked the spell themselves and tried to emulate Rose’s spinning motion. The horse drew nearer to Seele’s position in front of the now-burning Delacqua mansion. Its rider wore the navy blue of a Delacqua soldier. He pointed his lance at Seele, the tip just inches from his nose.

“May I ask what business you have with the royal family at this hour?” he said, the lance not moving. Seele raised his own weapon.

“This does not concern you. Unless you wish to die, leave now.” The other man got off his horse.

“As a matter of fact, it does,” he said, readying himself for battle.

“Ah, I see you wear Delacqua’s royal crest.” Seele smirked.

“I see you do not.” The other man lunged at Seele with his lance. Seele parried his attack, and struck the man with the butt of his lance. The men began trading blows, each parrying the other’s attack.

“Seele! It is done. Shall we take leave now?” Rose called. The man with the lance was far better than he had anticipated; leaving now would be the best course of action.

“I had intended to burn you alive, but it seems fortune is on your side tonight.” Seele said to the other man as he started to walk away. The man looked out at the burning mansion.

“Magic…if that is the case, then I’ll let you go tonight. But when next we meet, I will take your head,” the man muttered. He mounted his horse and rode away.
