Three days. It had been THREE days. The lioness paced in front of 'her' cave with a very unhappy, neigh pissed look upon her face. Back and forth she went, sometimes faster sometimes slower as she considered her mates absence. He had said he would go out on hunting trips, but he'd also said he'd be back the same day... This time he had said nothing when he left and had not returned; much like the day he had run from their family the first time.

Granted, that was before they had admitted their feelings for one another and it wasn't easy for Deception to admit something like love. Her ears twitched as she considered that Deception had only been living up to his name the entire time; that this all related to the game they'd begun the day they had met that neither had successfully finished. A cold spot in her heart throbbed, warning her that such accusations could only hurt them both, but his continued disappearances were just as bad. She'd had one male she trusted run out on her... Kizuka knew she couldn't take it again, especially not from him.

Where WAS he?!

She snarled at the air, torn between rending something into tiny little bits or breaking down into sobs. A part of her wouldn't blame him for never coming back--he may have used illusions to make himself look like death but her corpse-like body was no mirage. She was ugly as they came anymore; broken voice, broken body... and a very nearly broken heart. At this point Kizuka just knew her fur or teeth would go next, and vastly before their time.

Certainly she'd been getting better with the supplies he'd been bringing in.. but it was her own loyalty that kept them staying in such a retched place. Even her thoughts of Mistweavers had grown bitter lately, though her heart still saw the place it had once been. Perhaps they should leave... No. She shook her head. No they COULDN'T.... but she was so tired. So tired of all of this.

... and where was Ushu.... Kizuka threw herself down to the ground, curling her limbs to her, and tucked her head down. The sight was pitiful, but for the first time in a long time... she just didn't care.

The god in question, had been living a nightmare. Almost literaly.

He was worn out, tired, and had spent too much time thinking (a pastime he'd noticed did him no good when he was on his own). Too much thinking always proved to be fruitless, and merely rounded up more doubts and questions than he'd started off with. It had all started off as a game; perhaps just... something to entertain himself with, or perhaps something else entirely. Tell truth, Deception just didn't want to admit there were others he cared for in the world aside himself. It was hard word, caring. And as time passed, he met more and more, mortal or otherwise (because truly, it didn't seem to bother him anymore of which kin a lion was) that he found himself strangely attached to.

He found himself caring, loving, and afraid of what would become of their lives. It was that notion that had no doubt, set course to his actions, the last few days; encountering Malika's cub had been a bit of a shock for the god. Not only did it remind him of the fact he'd been unwilling to keep his only cubhood friend safe... it also reminded him of his own cowardice. Malika had left her cubs alone; abandoned them, and the fact alone, had stung him, almost as if it were his fault, and not hers. If he'd given that girl better words, and more attention those days, would it have been any different?

The doubt nibbled at him; he was unsure of himself, and confused by the emotions. They drove him to try to fix the past in the only way he could think of doing so; by saving the future. Watching that young cub's red hued gaze, he'd come to a determination; he'd save her, at least. He'd save her, as he'd been unable to save her mother.

There had been little time to act, and even less time to think, thus so he had decided to ignore the fact there were doubtlessly more of Malika's cubs around. He'd acted instead on instinct, and had aimed to save the one he'd happened upon. Scared, the cub had run away, and he had followed; for whole day, he'd flown over her, watching as she'd run across the savanna, relentless, never stopping. When she'd strayed from her course, he'd scared her with shadows and illusions into following the right path.

He was leading her towards the Pridelands.

Deception knew little about them, but what little he knew was that they were lush, green, and that there lived a prosperous pride there within. That was enough for him; giving that cub a chance for living was his goal, and fear was the only way he could accomplish it without revealing himself entirely to her.

After a full day of running, the cub had collapsed, exhausted, practically mid step. For a moment, the god had been frightened he'd pushed her beyond her limits, and had descended; he found the cub to be merely asleep however, and soon enough relaxed. He'd curled up around her that night, and had watched her as she slept; it'd been a restless sleep though. She kept on tossing and turning, and brushing herself against him, however, there'd been no creature, dead or alive that would've dared go near Ushaufu that night.

His green form had been large, looming over that of the fragile mortal cub's, his red eyes glowing, and even the stray hyena that had scented out the cub's smell retreated when it got glimpse of the large looming, red eyed figure beside it.

He retreated back into the shadows before she's woken up, and had driven her onwards when he was sure she was conscious enough. It was around midday that day that the small female had stumbled upon a large, brown and green hued lion. Ushaufu had watched the meeting from the side, unseen by either of them, and though he'd had his doubts upon first sight, the male's eyes had convinced the god that he was in fact, a good choice.

Those eyes, and the way they had melted as the cub had beamed up at him, had reminded him of himself. For a moment... for just a mere moment, he'd seen himself within that brown hued male, and thus he'd instantly this cub would become something precious to him. This in mind, he'd returned to the Mistweaver's land; it'd been a long journey back, and he was much too exhausted to even think about hunting. He'd had no drop of sleep since he'd left those lands, and needed his rest, even more than he did food.

Landing within the dry foliage, the god had to be careful not to trip and fall; his pace as awkward, his head held low in what could have been confused for shame, but was really just exhaustion. His instincts carried him towards the cave he and his family had been using, and at the entrance, he spotted Kizuka; she looked to be sleeping, and thus in what he though was a gesture of deep consideration, he stepped over her form and silently headed inside the cave, not wishing to disturb his mate from her slumber; there'd be time enough later for him to nuzzle and latch onto her. She needed her sleep too.

That was no doubt mistake number one.

Mistake number two came as he curled up silently inside the shadows of the cave; the cub's scent still lingered on his pelt, and scent... could easily determine that Ushuafu had been lingering around a female. Albeit a cub, however, there was no way for Kizuka to know this.

"Where have you been?" The familiar voice growled as he settled down. No, Kizuka was not asleep, nor did she like that he'd walked right past her without a seconds glance. Her head turned slowly more towards him, eyes opening just the slightest bit from the slits they'd been before. "Where have you been?" Her voice wavered a little with a conflicting mixture of anger, sadness and fear. The female stood, marching into the cave with him, her golden eyes centered right on his without the slightest movement away. "I have been going out of my mind worrying about you! How many times do I have to ask you to at least give me a word when you're going off on long tri--ps..."

Kizuka came up short when her nose caught whiff of something she'd never expected.

Eyes dilating in surprise, the lioness took a few steps backward out of the cave again, an expression on her face that might have seemed funny were it not for the way her fur bristled and claws extended. "Ushaufu...." There weren't even words to express what she was feeling now, though her narrow eyes and tensing frame might have clued in an intelligent... or guilty man.

Her voice caught him by surprise; had be really been that out of it that he hadn't noticed she was awake? The tension he could read in her words was apparent, and instantly the god did that what he'd been born to do; he braced himself and took on a defensive attitude. After all, Ushaufu still had much to learn about being social, and the fact he was a male, and a stubborn one to boot, probably did not help, "I was out," the words were barked, snapped at her, a defense he was setting up around himself in order to shield himself off and away from her anger.

The acid and wavering waves of frustration that rippled through her small form forced him to take a step back; a mistake, no doubt, for it could be confused for guilt. He'd learn that later however, as for now, all what the wingless god did was growl softly, his ears flattening back against his head; never had Kizuka snapped or growled like this at him, and it made him feel the need to growl right back at her, even though he really had no reason to "I found something I needed to tend to! I'm sorry! It's not like I planned it that way; it kind of just happened!!" the apology, or explanation, lost all it's appeal due to the fact he was, after all, deception. It forced him to tiptoe around the truth enough that it remain obscure; that and the fact he'd been chasing a cub he cared for into safety, hurt his ego somewhat.

He did not want to admit to Kizuka that he cared enough to have been out for three full days, looking after a cub that wasn't even his own, and that he doubted he'd even ever see again.

If he'd been surprised by her anger and her tone of voice before, he was no doubt struck dumb by the sudden change in pose; the way she took a step back and uttered his name, as if he'd physically struck her (which he had NOT, mind you; he'd never strike her!). The fact he'd been a cub for so long did not help either; whereas Audilifu was far from innocent, Ushaufu remain rather pure in many ways. The fact that she was afraid he'd been cheating on her never even crossed his mind, "What?" he frowned then, anger seeping out of him as he offered her a puzzled expression. Red light went off in his mind however, at this point; the way she was looking at her and the position of her body told him this went past anger for not telling her where he'd gone.

Instincts told him that much, however, they did not help him further, "What?" repeating the word, louder this time, the god frowned and lifted a paw to his face, passing it over his features, almost expecting to see it dripping in blood or something; she was looking at him almost as if he'd sprouted a second head, and he couldn't, for the life of him understand why. One thing was clear however; it was clear he was hiding something. Just obviously not what Kizuka thought.

Ushaufu really did have a lot to learn about speaking to women. Thus far everything he had said not only confirmed everything she thought, but in fact made it worse. His actions didn't help to eliminate the idea, and even helped to further it though Kizuka had often thought herself to be adept at reading another's body language.

The female felt a loud yowl coming from her throat before it sounded. "pissed" was an understatement by this point as her mind began to blank from fury and desperation. He COULDN'T have.. he WOULDN'T have... but all evidence pointed that he HAD. Truly Ushaufu wouldn't... The tears wanted to start as easily as her paws ached to hit him. She wouldn't, however, at least not yet; so hadn't been pushed so far as to truly lose her mind or sight of the fact that she acted this way because she loved him.

Indeed, could she blame him? Their relationship, though emotionally full, had been physically separate since day one. Not that she hadn't wanted to... consumate their relationship, but there were other factors involved. Her sickness, the lands sickness, the fact that there was always that possibility she'd get pregnant and neither of those two things could handle that yet--nor could their relationship, she'd thought. It was strange enough with him having played father and brother both to her first daughter, but to bring kids into a relationship that wasn't even fully tested yet?

All of those had seemed good reason until now.

The angry part of her snarled, a touch sadly, that he hadn't even made a move either. She'd written it off to his intelligence at first, but now it was made more glaringly obvious that she wasn't as attractive as she'd once been. There was no water around to see ones self in anymore and thus Kizuka hadn't the faintest clue what her face looked like, but if it matched the rest of her body... A choked sound escaped her maw then, sadness taking over for a moment. " 'it' just happened," She repeated, voice suddenly very dead and flat. "WHAT, 'just happened', Ushaufu?"

And of course, the angrier she got, the angrier he got back; it was a defense mechanism, implanted in his mind long ago. The angrier he got, the more he tip toed around the truth and the more he was prone to lieing, even though he had nothing much to hide (after all, was a small blow to his ego really worth all this?).

A pause that could be written off as guilt as the male looked around for a moment; he was simply... not prepared to tell her what 'it' had been. The idea that she'd laugh at him forced him to take a step back, and never did it occur to him that he was risking something more than his ego at this point, "Nothing!" the word was snapped at her as he flattened his ears back, the mane that lined his shoulders and back, "Nothing happened!" it was a blatant lie, and he knew it; in fact, he was perfectly aware the whole wide world would know it too, but his pride got in the way again.

His eyes looked away from hers, shame filtering his features, however, for different reasons than the ones that were by now haunting her mind; Ushaufu was ashamed at his own behavior. This was his mate he was talking to, and he was snapping at her, telling her lies and not being honest with her. The pang of pain hit him, making him wince, forcing him to take a second step back, however, he finally turned his gaze at Kizuka upon this point, glaring with force back at her. She defied him, and he had no problem with defying her back; such was their relationship. They were both strong, sharp personalities, and they often clashed.

Never like this though.

It never crossed the male's mind that this was a big misunderstanding however, and so he merely continued to glare back at her, lifting his chin up, "Why are you making such a mountain out of an anthill anyhow? Things like this happen!" he meant the fact he'd been late in coming home, but of course, as was apparent by now, he was picking the wrong words and expressions, time and time again without even trying to.

"YOU JUST ADMITTED THAT IT DID!" She roared back, claws sinking to the ground though she kept her stance where she was. A sick sort of rage bubbled inside of her, tearing at her esophagus and spilling acid into her mouth. She swallowed it back, though, refusing to give in to her own dizzying fears and hurt at this perceived betrayal.

How could she have let things get this far? Kizuka knew from the get go who he was, WHAT he was. How could a mortal, especially one so honest and forthright as Kizuka, fall in love with a being like Deception? It was almost laughable in a bitter, sordid sort of way. "Goddamnit, Ushaufu," She spat, voice trembling with tears of anger, "Do NOT lie to me! Anyone else but not ME! ... AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN I--" She choked a little, tossing her head to clear it.

"I am NOT over reacting!" She spat at what he'd implied, taking a step towards the cave. She didn't enter it, though, glaring at him from without as if the shadow it cast was a physical barrier between them. In a way it was almost poetical; her in the light and he in the shadows. .. as it had always been, her mind supplied. "I am not an idiot and I won't sit here and be lied to about THIS."

Voice lowering, eyes flashing in the midday sun, she snarled, "I can smell her on you."

Admitted to what? HUH?!

If Ushaufu'd been puzzled before, he was beyond that as Kizuka roared the words. His mind stopped for a moment, thinking back on what he'd said; there was nothing there to indicate what he'd been doing, so how the hell had he admitted to anything at all?! How could she know?

Again, never did it cross his mind that it was a misunderstanding; for some reason, the male felt more inclined to believe that his mate had somehow acquired x-ray vision in his absence and was... in some way he could not determine, looking straight into his thoughts. So thus, this in mind, his next words tumbled out of his maw, "She was lost and helpless!" he snapped right back at her, never giving his words a second's thought, "I couldn't just leave her like that! She reminded me of Malika! I thought I'd make her happy!" this time he was no longer beating around the bush; he'd gone straight into trying to explain his train of thought, never once figuring that his words could be taken the wrong way.

After all, one had to keep in mind, that the word 'cheating' had never even passed his thoughts for a moment. He felt his words and explanations were perfectly justified, "Of course you smell her on me! I slept with her that second night! I watched over her the whole bloody night! I thought someone'd eat her right up, what in the state she was in! She was exhausted from what I'd put her through!" later on, he'd look back at what he'd told Kizuka during this fight, and he'd no doubt, bash his head against a wall of the cave, repeatedly.

That is, if he somehow managed to come out of the whole situation alive anyhow, "How can you not smell her on me?!" a pause, his voice lowering, his ears flopping to the sides of his head as he looked away from her, "I thought something like that wouldn't mean anything; that you'd not mind..." Ushaufu was proving that he was able to chose just the wrong words at the the worst time, time and time again during the whole conversation. Maybe it was a skill.

If there were any possible way for Kizuka's jaw to unhinge itself and drop into the dust it probably would have at that moment. During Ushaufu's entire rant she remained totally silent, the expression on her face going from affronted to downright comical as she listened to this. Slowly her nose began to wrinkle in disgust and she took a step back. "you didn't think I'd MIND?" Her voice suddenly broke high notes she hadn't been able to hit in seasons. There was a pain associated with it as it tore her dry, cracked throat to do it, but at the moment she just didn't care. "How could you... how could you even THINK I wouldn't MIND!"

That was when a thought hit her, and her ears flew back against her skull, "AND WHO THE HELL IS MALIKA?" Anger back where shock had perservered, the female snarled again. "Was she the reason you left the first time? Or did you just meet her out there!" The female shook her head, "Was she lost and helpless too? That's the problem isn't it?"

Her thoughts were all over the place, seemingly random but with a very dire point the male, unknown to her, continued to miss. Advancing on him again, Kizuka finally entered the cave where, she imagined, the tainted smell of another female lingered more heavily in the air. "I'm too strong for you is that it? Too hard headed; able to take care of myself so you don't have worry your pretty little head over me?" She began to snap something else at him, but stopped on her own words, suddenly too drained to even think of anything else to say to him.

Instead she stared at him, long and hard, nose a bare breath away from him. There were so many things she wanted to say, wanted to DO.. but nothing she could put voice or action to. Only one thing, that was totally beyond her control, welled up of its own accord: a single hot tear that slipped from her eye to roll down her cheek.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:04 pm

It was only after her furious words that Ushaufu noticed that... something didn't quite make sense with what he was saying and what she seemed to be hinting about. His brain could not compute what saving a little cub from death had to do with him not finding his mate attractive, "But-" he was overridden by her voice and her protests; time and time again as she talked, he tried to stifle in a word, to no avail however, "I-I-" and her snarls cut his short again.

He winced back slightly at her rage; if warning bells had been going off earlier, warning sirens of doom where blaring inside his skull by the time he back off from his mate's body, taking a step back. His mouth flew open to explain that yes, Malika had indeed been lost, too, when he'd met her, but something told him that it would, at this point, be suicide to say such a thing. He could not understand why, but his preservation instinct had kicked in, and it was probably his silence at that point that spared him, no doubt. It was this same preservation instinct that told him not to mention the obvious; that she looked like hell. She looked further more weak, sick and lost and even that poor cub he just saved.

It was the single tear that snapped him into action... that single tear as it rolled down her cheek.

The time was past for words; instead, with swiftness he did not quite know he possessed, the male took a step and a jump forward, knocking his body into hers, sending them both to the floor, with him laying on top of her. Some subconscious thought at the back of his mind had reminded him that she did, in fact, look like hell, and as if she would indeed break if she hit the floor, so as they fell down together, his wings sprouted into view again, on of them slipping skillfully under her body. Despite the way they looked, Kizuka would have (or maybe not, considering the circumstances), noted that the wings were full of feathers; fluffy enough to keep her from getting as hurt as she would have by the impact on the floor.

Instead, the landed in a flurry of black feathers and dust, "Quiet, Kizuka! Be QUIET and LISTEN to me for a moment!!" the words were roared in an attempt to cover her voice, his body (hopefully) holding hers down in a way that'd keep her struggling to a minimum, "LISTEN to me!" he repeated it, stressing the words before he dipped his head down and placed his forehead against hers.

Images flashed through the female's mind; a cub-like Ushaufu, taunting a small, pure white lioness cub with green eye markings and the small adventure they'd shared, finding a snake, liberating it from it's prison.

"I'm Malika! What's your name?"

"Ushaufu..."

The first time he'd told a mortal his real name. Images then flashed of a white lioness, laying on a rock, looking tattered, and almost old, in that dreadful Oasis; flashed of a conversation they'd shared. A conversation that had lead him to round up the courage to find Kizuka, only days later; a conversation in which was revealed she'd been 'raped', in a way.

"Did you love him?"

"It was my duty... "

"You were deceived, and in denial; If I get round up the courage to tell the one I love that I do, I will be faithful to her, and only her. If I were to tell you it was your duty, would you bear my cubs? I am a God."

"I... it was different..."

"Hardly."

Images flashed then to show a small white cub laying on that same rock; blood red eyes looking sadly into the darkness, hauntingly familiar green markings around them. The same scene showed Ushuafu snarling down at the cub, frightening it away from the oasis, and away into night's deep throat; they showed how the cub ran and ran, and how the God had followed, flying over her, directing her with illusions towards the pridelands.

"What are you? Are you a nightmare?"

"Run, run away from this place! Don't come back here; there's nothing left here!"

Scenes where the god had lay beside the cub as she slept, collapsed on the floor, snarling at a group of hyenas, spreading his wings for them to see. Scenes where he'd had to place his whole body over the sleeping cub to keep her out of view, and scenes where she'd finally woken up and he'd driven her into the pridelands, where she'd found a male lion.

Images flashed within Kizuka of the cub's first smile as she'd looked up at the male, and the way said male's eyes had melted, in ways Ushuafu knew were familiar to him. As the images and scenes, and words flashed though Kizuka's mind, she would have been aware of Deception's thoughts at the time, and feelings too, for all was imprinted; he'd just shared a part of his mind and soul with her.

After this was done, Ushafu pulled his forehead away from her, and looked away from her for a moment, ears flattening against his skull. His jaw muscle spammed for a moment before he dared shot a glance at her, but he retreated his gaze as he opened his maw, his mane obscuring his eyes from view as he talked, "I er... for your information, I'm..." a pause, his voice lowering till it was a mumbled whisper, "I'mavirgin," it would've been perhaps, impossible for her to hear, or feel, had his body not been placed over hers at the time.

Kizuka hadn't been ready for it when he'd come at her and so there was little to no resistance as she was pressed down into a pile of confused limbs with him. She regained her mind quickly, though, fighting at first until his roar cut into it, the force of it against her body causing the female to shrink a little underneath him and go still. Though she looked to the side, it didn't stop his forehead from tapping against hers and that was where the explanation came.

Slowly, surely, as she saw not with her eyes but with her mind, her body began to relax beneath his. When it got to the cub, her eyes closed and remained that way for a long time after he took his head from hers and his confessions was whispered to the dead air about them. Her silence wasn't rejection, but thoughtful as she felt anger slowly ebbing away to be replaced by remorse... and embarrassment.

Eventually a tear-congested sigh escaped her throat, though no others fell from her eyes. "Ushaufu..." She whispered into the cave, body shifting a touch beneath his. Her eyes opened to the barest slits, looking more at his arm than at him. It was difficult to figure out what to say now after so much anger; the misunderstanding was more than clear but how does one apologize for thinking such things? Excuses were never the route to go, but her mouth worked for her, "... I've been abandoned twice, though you did come back; I've been hurt and betrayed and persecuted and forced into hardship my entire life... " The words weren't so much complaintive as they were a strangely dead statement of fact. "... I can't handle it... the thought of losing you, now. It scares me, Ushu.. and I've been terrified the past two days."

Now she was crying again, though she made not a sob or sound. She looked up slowly, dragging her tongue gently along the exposed region of his neck. her voice grew low again, whispered, as she said softly, "But i shouldn't have... jumped to such a conclusion... when i smelt that..."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:04 pm

His head fell in shame for a moment as she reminded him that he had left her, albeit at the time, he had truthfully though she'd be better off without him, "At that time... I really did think you wouldn't want me here if you knew how I felt; when I came back I wasn't planning on staying either... I'd just come to practically shout to you and the world that I loved you. I never expected the feelings to be returned. I thought it was a lost hope," his voice was still that same low whisper, and slowly, he moved his body off of her, allowing her to sit up if she wished, but still he refused to meet her gaze, instead looking away, even as she groomed his neck "I thought you were asleep," he explained further, "And ... it's just... it's awkward for me to show that I care about others; it's a scary concept, and it's almost embarrassing. That's why I didn't say..."

His movements were again, faster than he'd have given himself credit for; he turned from his place and threw himself at her again. This time, however, the roughness of the movement was lost; instead it was desperate, his neck coming to hook around her head, his paws gripping at her sides in as best a hug as a quadruped could manage (specially whilst laying down), "I'm sorry," it was lower than a whisper, but it didn't seem to matter, for he'd placed his maw to her ear, "I'm sorry... it just happened; I couldn't leave her there to suffer that same fate, and I couldn't bring her here. At the time it seemed like a good idea; I'm just ... I'm sorry. I'm spontaneous by nature. I just acted at the time. I really couldn't leave her there though, knowing what had happened to her mother, and knowing her mother was no longer there; she was abandoned there. Everyone deserves better than that; better than being abandoned," he'd suffered that fate after all, and he knew his mate had been deserted by her friend, not long after he'd joined up with them too. He knew the concept would not be one she'd repel.

"It's alright; you don't need to apologise," He kept his grip on her, almost as if he feared she'd dissolve away into nothingness, for a long time before he pulled slightly away, grooming her face with his tongue. It was only then that his voice returned to normal, or at least, to near normal. It was still low, a rumble of his chest, really, "You do look like hell though..." a pause, "You know that, right? You look like you'll break any moment now," he seemed to consider something for a moment, tucking his wings from still under her form as best as he could, "I want to take you away from here; you and the child, for a while, till you regain health, please... out to the borders, for a small period of time. Enough for you to regain your health. If this goes on, you will die, Kizuka," he'd been worried about this for a long time now, but it was only then that he'd found the courage to bring up the proposition, "It'd just be a for a small while, we'll tell the queen we're going on a small expedition..."

There was a long pause as the god looked away; he didn't like admitting there were things he was scared of. He'd never been truly scared of anything; if something threatened him he'd ran away, but now he was scared on someone else's behalf, "I don't want to lose you," he knew this was inevitable though, so he chose to rephrase, "At least not yet; not before it's time," looking over at her, he frowned, "Also, this whole being honest thing doesn't go with me, so I hope you've taken note of all that; I'm not repeating it right now," he gruped the words out as he lay his head over her chest.

Kizuka submitted to his grooming, only wincing slightly when he confirmed what she already knew about her looks. No matter that she did KNOW it still HURT to be told that, especially from someone who mattered as much as he did. Kizuka frowned a little, but returned the hug as best he could. "you're not going to lose me, Ushaufu..." The confirmation was whispered hoarsely into his ear. "I promise you won't... but do try to be honest. I know its difficult but..." Kizuka shook her head and sighed. That was going against a brick wall right there.

"I don't know about leaving, Ushaufu.. not entirely. Momo can't travel, Kimaji shouldn't be uprooted.. but.. Kimaji has been asking to take care of herself more these days. We could go, you and i, for a day or so to the nearest Savannah..." It was a strange offer, but the best she felt comfortable making. "Let me have time to speak with Masika first?"

He'd not missed the wince she gave as he told her what she no doubt already knew. Pressing his head against hers, he looked momentarily into her eyes, "It's the truth, you know... you are so worried about taking care of those around you, that you're not taking care of yourself," he stressed this with a small bat of his paw at her head, looking half annoyed, half bemused; an odd combination, but it was adequate, in his mind, in order to lower the stress level they had built inside the cave, "It's not a crime to stop for a moment and care for yourself."

Thankfully, the fact he'd been the one that had been doing most of the hunting, and most of the food bringing, kept him in good shape; or as good a shape as a god whom looked like the living dead could look anyhow. It was this thought that made him snort and look away for a moment, embarrassed for some reason; if there was a way for lions to blush, under their pelt, Ushaufu was no doubt doing it, some way or another, "You know, even like that, I still think you're the most attractive lioness in the world; and I've seen a lot of world, for your information," red hued gaze slid to glance at her for a moment before he offer her a smile, a hint of a smirk, though it fell abismally short, "Besides... just so you can rest assured for next time; females are more prone to taking one look at me and running for the hills, Kizuka - I'm not precisely attractive, or gallant in any way. In fact I'm still trying to figure out what you see in me."

He nodded as she spoke and closed his eyes again, "I should probably talk to her, myself too anyhow..." a pause followed. It was long, and the male was content with listening to her breathing for the time being. It wasn't till a stray thought crossed his mind that he reopened his eyes again, "Her eyes were blood red, you know. That cub's I mean. Her eyes were like mine. Her mother's were not red. And that brute's eyes were golden; I don't know where she got the red from, but it was like seeing my eyes inside that cub. Do you think she's fine? Do you think I did right?" he wasn't used to thinking about right and wrong after all.

"My family has needed me," she sighed in her defense, but even she knew it was a lame one. "But I am trying to... do a little less. Kimaji hunts for herself now, you've been taking up for me. I'm actually beginning to feel better." It was true, actually. Though the lack of water was a crucial factor, the meat Ushaufu had been bringing in dutifully before his short absence had helped the female out more than anything else. Well, except maybe that she was finally getting a proper amount of sleep again.

It didn't hurt that he'd continued on to call her attractive in his eyes. His words against himself made her snort a little, however. How could he not think he was handsome?! He was.. he was.... Okay, so he looked like a corpse. "Well you're attractive in my opinion.. so I assume other females would see it too, if they gave you a chance." She licked his muzzle gently, listening to his plight with the cub. "And you did just fine, Ushau... Just... tell me next time? I know honesty is hard but..."

Kizuka shook her head. She continued to lick his maw and neck as she thought, idly grooming him. "Ushaufu...." The noun was hesitant, almost bashful. She pushed him up off her a little, just enough to turn over under him and offer him her back. Head turning towards him a little she tilted her head, "We could fix that other thing.."

((I'm pretty sure KNOW you know this, but this is likely a 'fade to black' moment X3))
