An an article about bottled water - how it is made, transported, and sold. It's an interesting read.

After hearing about this whole thing, I think it's great that they're starting to get rid of bottled water. Can you imagine how we can save the earth. Plastic is already hard enough to decompose. And when you add thousands of water bottles on top of that, we are harming the earth greatly.

I am a big fan of bottled water myself, but it won't be hard to make the switch from that to regular water bottles you don't throw away.

P.S. My dad was just over in Columbia, and instead of bottled water, they had made bottled water out of plastic baggies. So instead of having your bottled water at a sports even, you have bagged water! xD

my mom sais that bottled water is better because it contains more vitamins and other things that the human body needs, unlike the regular water. i'm sure those plastic bottles are recyleble, right? o_O

Of course bottles are recycable. But too many a** holes aren't recycling because they aren't that smart. I believe they would still have bottled water if more people were recycling their plastic items.

yeah they are recycable but how many people actually recycle them.
I buy the 3Gal water and recycle the plastic. I also try to refil all my bottles that I buy like when I'm at work or something.
You should see my car...full of plastic water bottles..till I can make it to a recycling center.

We shouldn't have to buy bottled water, but it seems hard to aviod, especially with all the water pollution and such. I deffinatly think it's great and worthwile to try to find some solution to all the waste that goes into bottleing water.

Yeah, you can recycle the bottles, but it still causes pollution to make them in the first place. Not to mention that the recycling process pollutes as well, sometimes just as much or more as making a whole new bottle would. All recycling really does is save landfill space.

I've never liked bottled water. There's nothing magical about it just because it costs more. Dasani, for instance, is nothing but filtered water from a Coca-Cola owned ketchup factory, with some added salt. Not to mention that if the bottles are left in the heat at all, that can cause toxins from the plastic to leak into the water. I'd much rather bring a re-usable bottle of my own filtered water with me than pay $1 for something wasteful and potentially poisonous.

Recycling not only save landfill space, but it also reduces the production in making new bottles, therefor less pollution.

Your right about the bottled water in heat.
Don't leave em in your car, not only does the plastic leak Toxins, but the bottle itself becomes more porous absorbing whatever toxins it can pick up from outside the plastic bottle.
And all plastic bottles are reusable.
YOu can buy plastic bottled water, but make good use of the plastic. It's better than recycling.

I agree bottled water can't be avoided in some area's, water pollution is so bad in certain places, that I wouldn't risk drinking tap water.
The thing with bottled water is that it is filtered and it is cleaner than your tap water, dependin on your area. Also tap water runs threw so many pipes which can also get old and release toxins.
YOu don't have to pay $1+ a bottle, you can buy the 3Gal or 1Gal water containers which are also reusable and refillable and cheaper than individual bottled water.

Bottled water is generally a bad idea unless the only water you can get your hands on is undrinkable.

Bottled Water is an energy intensive way of hydrating people when compared to tap water. And the ironic thing is that the two most popular brands of bottled water are just filted tap water.

And don't forget that not everyone recycles or has a recycling program in their area and are forced to throw away the plastic, which contributes to plastic waste in the world.

But the kicker is, as opposed to common thought, bottled water is bad for you. I say this because it doesn't have the flouride, iron, and other minerals you get in the tap water unless you are buying the more expensive enriched bottled water which is identicle to tap water. Teeth problems are on the rise because by not drinking tap water, your teeth aren't getting the added protection of flouride.

But to combat people who are afraid of tap water toxins, you must realize that well water usually has high sulfur content and others, but has been deemed safe, and iron pipes are no worse.

Unless you're a plant, everything you do causes pollution. Just by sitting down quetly and breathing, we add to the world's environmental problems.

Not PLASTIC! Do you know how many creatures die each each because of pollution of plastic?
Bottled water is good... but we do need to figure out how we can do it without plastic...

not so. While plastic may be nasty to the higher order organisms like mammals and whatnot. They are a perfectly good surface microorganisms to live on. And I'd bet, with plastic's carbon content, something is evolving to digest it right now.

first of all, almost ANYTHING you come into contact with, whether through exposure, inhalation, or ingestion, can be considered "bad" for your health, whether it be in too large a dose or not enough. common sense out of the way...

i'd like to see some references or sources from everyone who claims that plastic water bottles are carcinogenic. as i'm sure most of you who make these bold statements already know, the majority of water/soda bottles are made out of a plastic called polyethylene terephthalate (or just PET). it doesn't melt until around 250C (or about 480F, much hotter than your car gets on a hot day); it is water insoluble, meaning it won't dissolve when exposed to, say, water from a water bottle; and it has not been designated as a carcinogen [all info referenced from the polyethylene terephthalate MSDS - you can look this up anywhere on the web]. however, it may release certain chemicals upon extensive heat treatments - namely, something called acetaldehyde, one of the main culprits in a "hangover." i won't go into all the details, but...acetaldehyde has been classified as a POSSIBLE human carcinogen, based on its MSDS. but like i said before, thermal degradation and production of acetaldehyde doesn't begin until about nearly 500F...

in conclusion, stop freaking out about being poisoned by this stuff. yes, it's true that bottled water is a huge load of crap mainly because it's just filtered tap water without any fluoride or minerals that might be beneficial. but don't go scaring yourselves into thinking it's more likely to cause you cancer than anything else you do on a daily basis.

Did you know that about 1 year ago, Aquafina announced that their water is just tap water, not bottled from the source. So this whole time, they have been plastic, and we pay good money for Aquafina.

I think that getting rid of bottled water would be a good idea. We would save plastic and water.

Actually there are elements in tap water that bottled water doesn't have, such as fluoride. However, it also has bad things for you, such as excessive sulfur. So, it's kind of a lose/lose situation...
