They're both good. It really is a matter of which one you have access to. I use Photoshop 7 since I was able to buy a full legal copy used rather cheap... If I didn't, I'd be using something shareware like Paint Shop Pro.

Photoshop, even Elements, the most "User-friendly" of them and one of the more basic ones, far surpasses any sort of Paint program. Photoshop is quite techincal but it is THE major art program used by artists, from budding to professional.

I bought paint shop pro. I don't know how to use it yet, but it seems pretty cool so far. Even if I can't use it for art, maybe I can use it for graphics, and at least I can edit pictures.

I have photoshop cs3 and it works great once u figure it out(which is easy). the only down part is that it's so pricey, but don't worry it pays for itself in the end. ask ur neighbors or friends if they have the software for photoshop. this way u don't have to buy it. good luck! mrgreen

Its best to just download a torrent for photoshop so you can get it for free. I did and it works wonders. Personally i prefer photoshop cs3 than paint shop because there is just so much more you can do with it.

Personally i prefer photoshop cs3 than paint shop because there is just so much more you can do with it. Gaia does not condone/endorse warez. I've used both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, and though I'm more used to Photoshop and more inclined to recommend it, they are similar as to what they can do.

If you are on a budget I would say Photoshop Elements. It doesn't have all the super intricate abilities of the full blown Photoshop, but for the novice (like me) you can get quite a bit accomplished as you learn. Now if getting Elements does come down to what you want to do I would also say pass at getting the current version that you see on the store shelves and instead just get yourself a Wacom Bamboo. Bamboo is the smallest version of the Wacom tablets available, but for the starting artist it is quite doable. Just avoid the cheapest model available and get the $100 version. It will have the full tablet and the last version of Photoshop Elements (nothing wrong with that) AND Corel Painter Essentials to also play around with. Basicaly for the same price as the current Elements you get a tablet, Elements, and another nice little art program (minus layers ability).
