-It'd been so long since he'd last seen her. Despite looking and trying to be around he hadn't caught the scent of his familar friend. And for once the placid and carefree stallion felt his stomach knotting with worry.
Had something happened to her? Had her sickness gotten worse? He searched fruitlessly, day after day, but nothing.
Today was another day of searching, and he slowly happened along, nibbling at grass here and there before moving on and lifting his head to try and listen for something familar. Where could she be? Would he find her today?-

"Go away, Tlacotl!" Nagual yelled over her shoulder as she galloped across the meadow. She had been running almost all day, with a near supernatural strength. Her body was not used to such abuse, and was slicked down with sweat. Her nostrils were flaring, trying to get her to cool off. The mare's silky mane flowed in the breeze.
Although she looked a mess, it was definately a healthy - if tired - look and not the sickness that had struck her before.
One may think she was talking to herself, except for a shadow the chased the mare across the field. You would have to look up tp see the source, and gliding on the thermals above Nagual was a kalona stallion that looked suspiciously similar. He had her coat, but beyond that he was different. Instead of a black mane and tail, his was long and orange. Flames seemed to spark from his feet, and the demonic wings were most definately not an aspect inherited from the fleeting mare.
From his higher advantage, Tlacotl threw down taunts and insults.
All Nagual could do was try to run faster... but no matter her efforts, he still effortless kept pace.

-Ears twitched gently as a faint sound drifted through the air, Ashling pausing in mid chew. Had he imagined it? Was he going crazy after all this time? No... certainly if he'd imagined it would have been the sweet sound of his friend. A pleasant hello, or a smile inducing giggle.
Whoever or whatever this sound, as faint as it was, it was obvious that it was not soaked in joy.
Glancing around mildly he wished he'd been paying more attention when it sounded, wings fluttering in soft irritation that he hadn't quite caught the direction.
Spotting the soft incline, he trotted his way upwards until he stood on the peek, ears perking up to try and catch any sound that might come his way. But he didn't have to wait for a sound.
In the distance, just barely bigger then two spots he could see two figures. One running across the grasses, and another flying above. In pursuit? He wasn't sure... But the aire of the tone he'd heard before, and the hints of was that FIRE? and demonic wings set his stomach to turning. He didn't have time to worry about looking foolish if he was wrong.
Loud whinney sounding, the flutter stallion began to gallop down the hilly decline into the grassy meadow, for perhaps only the second time in his life, his body grew with each stride, until he stood almost the size of a regular old stallion.-

Nagual caught a flash of color, and whatever it was it was growing... and coming her way. A common emotion now, at first the mare's feelings sank, for it was possible that Tlactol had found some reinforcements; as if he wasn't enough to try and deal with!
But as the running figure came close, her heart leapt in her chest. For it wasn't anyone brought down by the pursuer, but her bestest friend: the one that could always bring her joy, make her laugh, and the most pleasant company. Coming at her, galloping and getting bigger with each stride, was Ashling.
The stallion in the air was forgotten as the mare extended her strides and swished her tail in the air happily. "Ashling!" Nagual called out with a loud nicker. He seemed a little bigger than she remembered, but she didn't care. It was just so GOOD to see him after all this time. The threw her head with excitement.
Tlacotl was not as pleased. His mother had forgotten about him already? Well, that just would not do. The kalona slowed his speed, and instead circled in a sudden thermal, gaining altitude but still within distance to observe and hear the interaction. His insides curdled at the change this newcomer had made in Nagual, but he had never seen this purple flutter before. He was reminded of Thistle, and took an immediate dislike to this 'Ashling' character.

-His eyes were mostly settled upon the forboding airborn character as he approached. He'd picked up the female scent of the earth bound one, and caught the mild splash of grey dotting the green valley, but his eyes were locked upon the airborne beast most prominately.
It was like nothing he had seen before, and his bizzare thought from before had proved to be true. Through some unknown way flames seemed to lick at the demonic winged creature. Perhaps that's why his body had decided to grow so, why his muscles seemed so tense and taunt, but when the sound of a familar friend sounded, he almost faltered in step, attention flying suddenly to the earth bound female.-
"Nagual!!?" -It was a sound of surprise. Surprise mixed with joy, the edges of the word lifting an octave almost feminine as his brain finally accepted the sight before him. She looked better, no longer looking nearly so frail or ill. No, despite the slicking of sweat she looked beautiful even! Oh the whiney that stirred from him in response to the fire that seemed to light within the mare once again.
He didn't know what had happened to her, or how she'd gotten better, but he did not care, grin growing almost wider then his muzzle before finally he shouted, more out of excitement then distance.- "I've been looking for you for so long!"

As Nagual ran, she tossed her mane. "You have? Why? Did you bring me some carrots?" Her voice in the wind had a teasing, playful tone. She had never eaten the carrot still tied in her mane from so long ago. The shriveled up vegetable was kept as a memento... that, and it had already been long dried when she was finally feeling well enough to eat.
The way she said her words kind of implied this, and the excitement she had to have one of those elusive 'carrots'.... and, of course, that she had remembered.
Finally, the distance between the friends was shorter. Nagual broke out of her mad dash-run and slowed to a long trotting prance. She waited until there were close enough, and then nibbled a bit on the stallion's mane. "You're bigger! I don't think Viola's ever gotten to this size before..." the mare admired. How her friend was so much larger!
Tlacotl still stayed away. When the two were in the same place, he made lazy circles around them, like how a vulture circles its intended prey.

-The flutter stallion slowed to a stop as she neared, more then happily accepting the bits of friendly affection, a mild nicker slipping from him.-
"Oh! I uhhh.." -A sheepish grin touched his muzzle, and he laughed alittle, suddenly feeling foolish thanks to her inquiry.- "I'll bring you one next time! When I'm sure I'll find you and it'll be fresh out of the ground."
-As he was admired, he couldn't help but admire the view from 'up here' himself. The slope and markings of the top side of her back, the pleasant scent of her hair as she came close and nibbled at his own. So pleasant. Like a whole meadow of flowers. The jumbo sized flutter's wings twitched a little with contentment, only stopping once her statement sounded, his eyes drifting upwards once more.- "I can't stay this size for very long. I was just.." -He paused, unsure of whether or not to state the truth. If the beast above was her friend.. he might hurt it's feelings just for being silly old Ashling.
But old Ashling won out, and lowering his voice to a whisper he replied softly.- "I was worried that you were being chased by something terrible." -Bulstering himself up to the 'grandness' of the silly lilac little flutter 'big and toughness' he gazed up suspiciously at the circling beast once more.-

Nagual was slighly sad, she ws hoping she could taste a carrot, especially with how much Ashling talked about them. But she was too happy to see Ashling to really dwell on that. When he discussed where carrots come from, she was a bit taken aback. "They come from the ground...?" the mare squeaked with interest, "like... grass? Or roots?" She wasn't fond of most roots, the mare generally found them bitter. Nagual usually liked things that came off other things... like berries (and maybe apples).
She was enjoying herself, playing with his curly, silk mane. Usually she had to reach a little lower, so this was a general comfort; not that she minded making exceptions for him.
Nagual leaned an ear as he told her why he was so unusually big. And the reasoning did manage to take some joy out of her eyes, but not enough that she was about to run off again to escape the pursuer. "Oh... him...." the mare grumbled with discontent.
Tlocatl swooped down, and landed nearby, extending his wings to look as menancing as possible. He hadn't heard what the two said with lowered voices, but when Nagual leaned in just a little, he thought he'd come and break the party.
"Mother, you should know better than to get too close! He could..." Tloc looked over the flutter with a disinterested eye, "well, I gues HE couldn't do much, can he?" The stallion's tone was sacrastic and demeaning, meant to get a specific response from the mare that really had given birth to him.
Nagual literally flinched at how he named her. Instinctively, she took just a step back to be near Ashling just a little more.
Tloc grinned, his sharp teeth glinting in the sun. He loved watching his Mother squirm.
The mare knew what her... dare she say it?... toyed with her, but it was a memory she'd rather forget and move on with her happy-go-lucky life. Nagual didn't want him around to remind her.

-Sticking closer to Nova and being the spoiled little boy that any soquili living with a young child would be, he didn't often find himself digging for roots. So he didn't quite understand her inquiry and possible distaste, as he answered thoughtfully.- "Well the top green is kind of like grass. And the bottom orange is a root. So both!"
-Ashling's ears flicked forward as the sound of discontent registered with him, just in time to catch the scary beast's landing. Had it been any other time Ashling probably would have turned tail and simply took off, for the beast WAS very scary.. He was bigger, more aggresive in his stance even then his own puffed out 'intimidation', and even worse the very tone of his voice sounded like poison. Yes.. he usually would have turned and ran, but as he felt the soft brushing of Nagual's skin against his as she backed up, he held his ground.
Mother...? A look of confusion touched him, a glance that lasted only a second going back to his best of friends. Had she had babies while he was gone? Babies that had already grown to this size? Surely not.. even if this stallion was grey and did have some speckling pattern. Surely nothing so ugly and frightening could come from her.
He was not left to ponder on the thoughts for long however, for the other stallion's taunt sounded, and an unpleased huff of a snort escaped him.- "Not that I'd do anything to her anyway. But I can take care of myself if I need to." -Could he really? Had he ever been in a fight in his life? Other then maybe a play one or two as a colt? Well.. that didn't matter as long as the other male believe him.
His body curved instinctively, bringing forth a hoof so that his shoulder stood before the mare, echoing the assertion that the firey stallion would have to get through him if he wanted to torment her any more.-

Nagual flinched away, but when Ashling took a stance before her, the mare became much more confident. She looked at the back of the flutter's head in thought, and then brought up eyes that watched Tlocatl defiantly. If Ashling was willing to put himself between them, well, the least she could do was back him up. But a shiver ran down her spine, what if the firey kalona hurt him though? Her eyes misted from the thought of Ashling lying on the ground, cover in his own blood. She knew that Tlocatl ate meat (though she had never seen him eat soquili meat before)...
Tlocatl thought the pathetic motions from the small stallion were quite amusing, yet entirely futile. The stallion looked down at the flutter from his nose, and that smirking of a look never left his face. "So, you think you can 'take of yourself', do you? And have you ever even been hurt? You perfect skin, and those soft - delicate wings.... why," he moved his eyes to those wings. They were like Thistle's...and how he wondered what tearing them off would do. "I bet they burn," he smiled almost 'innocently' as the flames at his hooves flared up and licked along the grass, catch little tufts of fire before sparking out of existence.
Nagual's eyes got really big, and her heart stopped for a moment. "Nooo...." she whispered, the word barely audible.
But Tlocatl heard it, and his smile broadened, "Oh, what was that, Mother? You don't think they'll burn?" He took a step closer to Ashling, "I am kind of curious, aren't you?"

-Butterfly wings... delicate and paper thin. They weren't at all like the sturdy feathered wings on his brethren. So while the taunting question sounded Ashling did not think of whether they'd burn. His mind turned instead to whether they would heal. If torn and burned and assaulted would the limbs be beyond repair? Or would it be possible that they'd heal with time. The thought that they probably wouldn't brought forth an uneasy and clearly visible little shiver.
Could he live without flying? Without fluttering about the flowers, and letting the breeze carry him about lazily? He didn't think so.
His ears twitched forward once more however, as the soft whisper of his friend touched him. Could he live without her?
It wasn't as if he'd hadn't done it in the past. But how often had he thought about her? Wondered when he might see her again? Dreamed pleasant dreams of the two playing or berry hunting, or whatever else? It wouldn't be the same as her being gone forever, without any hope of seeing her again.
So what was it Ashling? Your wings. Or your best friend.
His wings quivered backwards, as if trying to protect themselves, but his foot drew forward, stomping the ground in one heavy and assertive motion.- "No I am not curious."
-His eyes flicked down to the unnatural flames as they licked the edges of his hooves, but his body held firm and strong. It was her he would choose. And though his flutter voice was nothing even remotely intimidating, he insisted nonetheless.- "Just leave her, or rather US alone."

Nagual's ears flattened to her head. She tried to gather bavery from Ashling, but it wasn't going well at all. But.... well, he was her son, as much as she hated to admit it - shouldn't he listen to her?
Tlocatl was mostly unaware of the thoughts roiling through their heads. His smile simply got bigger with ear passing minute - those sharp teeth glinting in the sun. As far as he knew or was concerned, they were quiet because they were scared of him and he had the upper hand, or hoof. Ooo, he was witty too!
"Or what?" Tlocatl shoved his face onto Ashlings, "what are you going to do if I don't?"
But Nagual couldn't take it. She was genuinely afraid for Ashling, and did what she had never done before. The mare reached over her bestest friend in the whole wide world and bit Tlocatl's ear, and pulled.
Tlocatl, more in shock than anything else, gasped in shocked. He couldn't do much but take the abuse from his mother. It might have been humorous... to someone else.
But when he broke through the shock, Tlocatl slammed his head into his mothers, and sent the mare reeling back. Turning his attention to Ashling, he snarled and body-slammed the flutter in hopes of knocking him over. The kalona slammed down a foot, with the intention of breaking a leg off that pretty-boy flutter.

-It all happened so quickly. Before he could even think about it. The scary stallion pushed forward again, until their noses almost touched. And then Nagual bit. And suddenly the foul beast hit her back.
His heart seemed to stop as he saw her reel back from the attack, but before he could do anything about it, he felt pressure against him, body clattering to the ground with a whoosh of air.
It happened so fast he it seemed to all occur in slow motion. It was by adreneline's sake alone that he was able to pull back his legs in time to keep those hooves from shattering them. It had been close, so close in fact that flames has licked at that leg singing away the hair until only pink skin remained. It stung, but Ashling did not pay any attention to it, quickly pushing himself upwards before the stallion could attempt another crushing blow.
His eyes turned to Nagual again, searching to see whether or not she'd gotten up yet. Only a moment did he stir his eyes, before taking up the aggressive just in case, lowering his head as he plowed towards Tlocatl in attempt to push him back this time.-

Tlocatl was getting to be more annoyed than anything else. Of everything, to have both of them come at them had dispersed some of the anger - as he just wasn't expecting it. But to think that either of them would 'attack' him, that was unthinkable! He saw the purple little flutter coming at him, and braced himself.
Nagual got to her feet, just in time to see Ashling start his charge. Her muscles shook and twitched from fear. She saw as Tlocatl braced for the plowing his flames licked up higher - and that scared her more than anything. The mare knew of Tlocatl and Thistle's discussions, and had grown concerned for what those flames could do to flutter wings.
With a growth of energy, the mare lunged forward. If Ashling would charge her..... the kalona from the front, she would from the side.
Tlocatl didn't see the gray blur from the corner of his eye, but later on he'd probably chastise himself for missing the clue. He allowed his flames to flare up - but not too much, as he wanted them hot. The kalona noticed that the fire wasn't high, but they were hotter than usual (he wouldn't admit that he couldn't get them too hot, maybe a singe-heat). Tlocatl waited with a grin as the flutter did his best to be a menacing charge - it was funny, how he thought he could take him on. How precious!
He felt the first collision from the front, the one he was expecting...but when the second came from the side it was his turn to fall back and stumble to his knees.
When Tlocatl lifted his head and gathered his feet below him, his red eyes glared and his flames sparked in irritation. He knew immediately what had happened - they had double teamed him! What insolence! But was was tired of this, nothing was going as he planned. And as was typical of him, he had to have the last work.
With a growl, he faced Nagual, but didn't take a step forward. "Is this what you want, Mother? This pathetic meat of a soquili?" Tlocatl lowered his head and snorted. "Fine.... haaaave hiiiim.....!" And with that, he pivoted and jumped into the sky.
Nagual stood proud through his little speech, but didn't answer him directly. It looked like defiance and choice, but it was even just a little fear - if she had spoken, then her voice probably would have shook. So she watched him leave. When she couldn't see his cruel form anymore, Nagual turned her frightened and concerned eyes to Ashling. If she were human, there would have been tears in her eyes.
"Ashling!" she lunged forward and nuzzled him tenderly. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you? You're okay, right????"

-It was a great relief to see the beast go down, obviously shaken, though it didn't occur to Ashling why that might be. And he stood tall once more as the fire monster lifted itself and quite miraculously took to the sky.
He could hardly contain the joy and estactic relief that flowed through him as the figure dissapeared. But before he had the chance to ponder over the experience, or the use of that strange word once again, Nagual was at his side.
Triumphant nicker escaping him pressed against her muzzle before cradling her head between his cheek and chest for a moment. His body still shook like a leaf, but that was ignored as he simply enjoyed the angle he could take with this larger body, how much more of her body he could hold and shelter.
When her voice sounded laced with worry, he pulled himself from her finally, holding his body out for her to explore. The adreneline pumping through him hid the ache that would likely fill his body in the next day, so the only apparent injury was that hide stripped and pinkened burn that marred one leg. - "I'm fine." -He finally answered simply, flutter wings shivering and fluttering a few times with his joy.- "And you? You're alright?
