What effect do you think the release of the Battle System will have on trading?
The type of item of central importance to the BS seems to be the rings. In my estimation, some of the rings will be valuable for having been upgraded multiple times. There are several such mechanisms in Gaia for players to convert time spent into money outside of the marketplace (tickets, fishing, bugs -> ink, etc.), but I believe grinding in the BS to upgrade rings will become the most profitable of these activities, at least during the flood of interest generated initially. There may also be some rare rings that are hard to find; these will be even more valuable in the marketplace.
Such a "ringrush" (like a goldrush, but with rings... sorry) may have a deflationary effect on non-ring items. If so, it would be wise to sell other forms of items before the release of the BS, or at least be willing to hold on to them for a while.
It will also be interesting to see whether future Thank-You Letters will contain items usable in the Battle System. It would not surprise me.
In short, I think the release of the BS may have a tremendous and lasting effect on the Gaia Marketplace.
