What franchises in your opinion need to die and why?
I'll add a poll once some names are mentioned. EDIT: I added a poll. To make your choosing a little bit easier I put down the major ones listed and then I paired them off in case you had trouble deciding. 3nodding

Metal Gear. For crying out loud, I know many of you hold it dear to your hearts, but let Kojima do something else. Please? And I don't mean a Boktai kind of something else. I mean a new big franchise with a new, interesting focus. I'm sure he's got some incredible ideas floating around in his head that he simply cannot put into Metal Gear because it wouldn't fit.
Sonic, let him die and be reborn. If they wouldn't bother with crappy 3D games, SEGA could make some truly amazing looking 2D Sonic games and they would undoubtedly be really fun to play (imagine a 2D Sonic running at 60 FPS, I wish there was an emoticon for salivation).

I agree with Sonic.
Ever since it was on the GC/PS2, its games have been mediocre/had numerous problems.

I guess I have to say Final Fantasy. Maybe it's just me, but I think a lot of FF games get a lot of undeserved attention just because they have the FF tag. If Square took the time to NAME each one -- like Kingdom Hearts -- they might find out which lines have the most following, and a game like FF VII would become a series, with multiple points of view.
Madden and NBA Live should die, too. EA is seriously putting out the same crap every year and people eat it up. I'd rather see more Mario Spots. At least the Italian plumber would get a good share of innovation out of each go.

They share the same name because they're in a series. rolleyes
If you actually played more than a handful of FF titles, you'd realize they have a lot of the same elements/story plots.
And... It's not like they're to lazy to think of a name so they tag of "FF". The reason why Kingdom Hearts had a different name, believe it or not, was because it was in a different series.
Hence, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.
See the pattern?

If any FF title got undeserved attention, it was VII.YES! THANK YOU GOD! You know what Final Fantasy deserved a LOT of attention? Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It was my first Final Fantasy and has ALWAYS been my favorite.

They may be similar, but the truth is, FF VII, VIII, and X all have completely different characters that never meet each other -- unless you count Kingdom Hearts. X had X-2, which was a result of X's success. However, X had nothing to do with VII, Mystic Quest (SNES), Legends I, II, or III, and so on. I just think that the FF tag gives a lot of attention just because it's Final Fantasy, and it's a pretty cheap way to sell a game.

(If the game makers can GET IT TOGETHER I'd love to see those two rise to their former glory. Otherwise, it pains me everytime another craptasitc one comes out. As of now, they need to be taken out like Old Yeller)

No matter how much I love the MGS series, I have to second Sheiks notion on the idea that the series needs to end. I don't want to see the series turn into FF.
