[Whenever I am at school I hear two girls calling each other "whore," and other nasty things. However they use it as a term of endearment. This has always confused me. Howe is calling your friend a promiscuous woman who has sex for money endearing?
What do you think of this? Is it okay for girls do this? How come girls can use this with their friends but turn around the next minute and mean it as an insult?
Personally I think it's silly to do this. I don't find the term whore very friendly at all. I'm offended to be called that because frankly I'm not a whore, I haven't even had sex. I used to use this word in the same way till I finally realized what was wrong with it.
I also don't think we should use this word to be friendly, especially if we are going to turn around the next second and condemn someone using the same terminology. Truly I don't think it's okay for anyone to insult someone else and call them a whore but I really don't think it's okay to use it as a term of endearment.]

Guys do the same thing, calling each other "bastards" and "S.O.B.s". I don't really understand it, either. confused

that's a tough one. I have a tendency to call people whore when I'm annoyed with them. I never use it as a term of endearment. It's more like a substitue for b***h. However, my boyfriend gets really annoyed when I use the world for anything. I suppose that's because when I met him I tended to refer to myself that way.

// It's an inside-joke kind of thing to do. I can understand it.
Only problem I have with it is that they tend to yell it out for shock value, which gets annoying.

Only if you consider yourself one of the above mention. Most women find these lables offensive.

I don't usually hear it a whole lot from girls calling each other whores, unless the actually mean it.
There's this one guy though (we're sure he's gay, but he doesn't seem to know it) who will call girls names when he's in a group of people. I don't find it very flattering, if you know what I mean.

It's possible that they use it in a sense of 'we're such close friends we can call one another names, and know we're not insulting one another'.
It is far more likely, however, that they use said words because they have been made acceptable by the media; i.e. "I got my hoes and bitches."

In many ways it is the same as black people calling one another the n-word; taking a word that pulls you down and using it so that it no longer has power over you.
I, on occasion, use these words on my friends -- especially b***h, sometimes whore and slut. But when I do, I do it in private, or on the internet, because it is not okay for everyone to be putting women down in these ways. I joke around with a lot of rude and offensive words because I do not believe that we should let ourselves be controlled and affected by such trivial things.
"Words only have the power that you give them"[/misquote]. That's really all there is to it.
I do not tolerate being called derogatory words, and it is very sad that some people do; it is one of the many sick trends in our society that need to be stopped, although, unfortunately, little is being done by enough people to stop it.

its the same thing as an african american or if you want to call them black. (Honestly dont know whats right to call them) anyway, its the same as them calling each other the "N" word.
its truly disgusting I think, that people call each other those names.

I think people should only use those words to be offending. People use them to pretend that they are "tough"...although I have no idea why people think swearing makes them tough...but heh, all the rappers do it stare

Well, what's a word to you? It lets you convey your thoughts, ideas etc. right? So, whore and b***h may just be an endearment to those two girls. They know that their friendship won't be broken even with harsh words like that. They turn it into an insult later because other people think of them as insults. There's no use speaking French in China.
Likewise, 'love' is only a word. I could say 'I love you' in a sarcastic manner and not mean it at all..
It's all about perception and intent, I say. Live and let live. They're not doing any harm.
