Moving out had been hard. He knew Weiyuan would not be happy to return to the dorm they had shared, only to find that RuiZhi's side was vacant. The boy was aware of how serious his brother and Rylenn were becoming, and he took it upon himself to encourage them to share a dorm; he didn't have the heart to tell Weiyuan that spending the night alone in the dorm was just as bad as being in the room for the reason the older boy left in the first place...neither of which made for pleasant mental images.

The Chinese student looked at his new dorm, feeling a mixture of contentment, pride and sadness. It wasn't like he wouldn't see Weiyuan again, but he wasn't terribly keen of being alone once more, the events from China far too fresh. RuiZhi knew he would be all right once he started to delve into his studies, forgetting the outside world and all its problems, except for the ones he was here to solve.

He had chosen the left side of the room, where he had his few meager belongings already put away. There was a pile of books near the head of the bed, some diagrams tucked near them and a strange jar wedged between the bed and the nightstand where it was not readily visible. It was sparse, but the boy hadn't ever had much to call his own; it would suit him just fine the way it was.

Coming to a new school was not something Scyeth had been looking forward to. His father sent him. Scyeth did not have a choice. It wasn't like his father really ever gave him a choice, but sending him away to school? That was harsh, man. Harsh. But that didn't mean he had to look at it that way. His dad wasn't here, so he had free rein. Oh, damn! It was almost like he was growing up, or something! Weird!

He rolled down the hallway until he found the room he was assigned. Alright! He hadn't thought of it before like this, but this was like, a step into his own life! He stopped at the door and fumbled with the knob before rolling in. "Hello, new life!" he greeted the room, only to realize there was another boy sitting on the left side. Roommate? Well, that could be cool. "Hello, boy who I do not know!" he added, flashing him a cheerful smile. He rolled backwards to close the door with a foot before rolling over to the empty bed, which he could only assume was his.

"I'm your new roomie," he chirped, unceremoniously dumping his bag on the bed. He then let a black furball out of his other arm, watching as it strolled across the bed and immediately found a pillow to settle himself on and begin grooming. "I hope you like cats!"

RuiZhi was, essentially, starting over. It was a new life.

The boy leapt and spun on his heel as the words he had just thought were spoken out loud, the door to the room emitting the most colorful young man RuiZhi had ever seen. He adjusted his glasses, blinking his large brown eyes at the greeting, a large grin forming suddenly at the simple but truthful words. Were he in a better mood, he would have outright laughed, but grinning was a good start. So, he wouldn't be alone after all, would he? And if this boy could make him smile so quickly, maybe starting over wouldn't be so hard.

"Hello to you, my name is RuiZhi and I don't mind cats at all," he said calmly, addressing the statements with a warm smile. "Welcome to ShinKami!" The boy turned his gaze over the other, taking in the playful clothing, thick blonde hair and cheerful smile. "Where are you from?" he asked unthinkingly, not at all used to such...open and free individuals.

"My name is Scyeth. This is Banish," he added, pointing to the large black cat making himself at home on Scyeth's new bed. He flopped down on the bed, ignoring Banish's hiss as he continued to observe the room. "Huh? I'm from the land down under," he said distractedly, rolling his skateboard around with his foot. "Australia, baby!" he added, blue eyes sparkling. You know. Just in case RuiZhi didn't know that. While, he probably did, but still.

"So you been here a while?" he asked, focusing back on the other boy. Huh. He looked kinda...studious. He would have to fix that! "What do you guys do for fun here?" What he really meant was 'is there a place I can board?' because frankly, that was all that mattered. The boy lived to board. Speaking of, he needed to find a safe spot for his beloved skateboard. Well. Under the bed would do for now. He reached down and rolled his board under the bed; he'd just need to remember to clean out the dust bunnies every now and again.

Well, he should probably start unpacking. He stood and began to rummage through his bag, pulling out a large assortment of clothes just as colorful as the outfit he was wearing.

RuiZhi's eyes moved between the two, nodding politely. "Nice to meet you, Scy...Scyeth," he stumbled over the name, sounded out the vowel reminding him of his less than perfect English, "and Banish." He smiled at the cat, not at all disturbed by the hiss or that the creature was introduced at all. His cheerful face shifted into puzzlement at the mention of where Scyeth came from, however; land down under? What the heck was that? Before he could turn it over too much, the older boy explained, and RuiZhi could do little more than shrug and bob his head in acknowledgement. He'd seen the place on the map, but he knew nothing about it.

"A couple months," he offered as he sat on his own bed, watching Scyeth watch him in turn. He crossed his hands on his lap, mostly hidden by his robe-sleeves, thinking about the question. "Fun? Mostly...the mall. Sometimes the other students do things together." He lifted his small shoulders in a shrug, adding, "I really haven't had the time to look for fun. Too much to do."

RuiZhi continued to watch Scyeth as he unpacked and made himself at home. They were simple actions, but they made the boy feel at ease and comfortable. There was no tension, no expectations, just the frank honesty of meeting someone new in a new place. There was no uneven ground, not that RuiZhi could see, and it made him smile again. What a curious roommate to have acquired. "If you aren't sure where things are, I'll do my best to show you around."

Scyeth wasn't bothered by the other's trouble with his name. It was a bit of a strange name and he wasn't the first to stutter over it. It happened a lot when he traveled with his dad. "...the mall?" Scy's eyes widen. "Seriously? You guys have a mall? Awesome!" Living at a place with its own mall? It didn't get much better than that! "Wait. No time for fun? What's wrong with you, man?" He gave RuiZhi a quirky grin, tipping his head to the side before turning back to his duffel bag, shaking his head.

"Play time's the best part of the day," he said, clicking his tongue. Frankly, it was the only part of the day worrying about. His world revolved around the time he got to spend outside hanging out. He clicked his tongue again, eyeballing his pile of clothing thoughtfully. He'd have to get it stored somewhere before he went outside to explore. He couldn't go about losing his clothes on the first day, thank you. He knew for a fact his father wouldn't send him replacements and he certainly couldn't afford going out to buy new stuff at the mall. Besides, his style was unique, he couldn't buy it anywhere.

"Show me around?" he echoed, attention suddenly stolen away from his clothing pile again. "Oh, sounds like a good time," he purred, twirling to face RuiZhi. "Hey, maybe you can introduce me to some of your friends, yeah?" The more people he met, the better. It meant he wouldn't be the new guy for that long.

RuiZhi laughed under his breath. This one was so full of energy, going every which way. The boy knew he could use a little of that. "Yes, the mall is a short ways from here." To the other question, he gave another delicate shrug, his smile wistful. "I'm here for a reason. I guess that kind of hangs over me." It wasn't quite a duty, he felt, just more of a feeling of responsibility. He took the time he needed to be quiet and reflect by himself, but going out and 'having fun' wasn't something the boy thought of often.

"Hmm. I don't really know what the others do...for fun." He tried to think of Weiyuan and Rylenn, Farlest even, and Elijah...but no, did they really do anything for 'fun'? Rylenn, maybe, but mostly he just cooked. Thinking of his friends, he couldn't help but laugh again at the last question; how quaint. "Sure, there's not many of us here. Most of the students are...quiet."

That was an understatement, now that he thought of it. RuiZhi wasn't loud, but he was easily one of the less reserved, except for maybe Rylenn. Thinking of the red-head gave him a little pang of worry, given his penchant to flirt. It seemed Scyeth wouldn't be the type to brush it off as play, and that could spell bad things for his elder brother.

Scyeth adjusted his hat, fiddling with a stray strand of hair as RuiZhi explained himself. "Hell, I'm here for a reason too, but by no means am I going to let that stop me from enjoying myself," he informed himself as much as his roommate. "And you need to have fun, you know. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," he quoted some movie sometime. Or maybe it was a song. He didn't remember things like that. Whatever it was, it was true. "Need to take a break and kick back every now and again." Given, Scy's idea of 'now and then' was a daily vacation.

Scy's face fell a little when RuiZhi informed him most the students were 'quiet'. "What a drag," he said, shaking his head. "I'll have to fix that for them." It would become his personal mission to make this school interesting. They might all be smart, exceptional students, but he'd have to put the fire back in them. Or something like that. He began to rummage again, grabbing an armful of clothes and making his way over to the cabinets.

Huh. Those looked kinda small. So, true to form, Scy just began to stuff until he was sure nothing else would fit and then slammed the cover shut. He grabbed his bag and looked around. Well, it could just live with his skateboard under his bed.

He flopped down on his bed and looked at Rui. "...we need some posters in here, or something. Of rockstars. And girls."

RuiZhi wasn't sure who Jack was, but he thought maybe it was best not to ask. It really did seem like the two were speaking different languages. "I see. Just be careful, some of the students probably wont take to your fixing." He smiled to take the edge off of his words, but it was the truth; Weiyuan would rather punch someone's lights out than be told to lighten up. The only two people who could get away with saying anything like that to the surly youth were Rylenn and Alex. Even RuiZhi would likely get a dismissive wave.

The boy watched Scyeth in silent fascination, both because of his demeanor and the color of his clothes. "Do all people from Australia dress so colorfully?" he asked curiously. He wasn't trying to be rude, but his people were generally the type to dress in earthen or bold colors, but not the light and frisky pastels that this boy seemed to have. He wondered briefly if Alex had ever been to this place; he'd have to ask her later.

"Posters?" he echoed curiously. "If you'd like. I don't think we keep this room very long," he explained. He himself was already a Registered student, so once he completed his Science Branch information, he'd likely move into the Science dorms. "We can see if the mall has any, when you get the chance." RuiZhi never thought about decorating the walls, but then, he didn't really think about a lot of the things Scyeth was bringing up. It really was like starting a new life.

Scyeth couldn't help but chuckle. "I might look like a good-for-nothing, but I can hold my own." He wasn't afraid of the other students. There was no way anyone in the entire school could out-fight him. He was too good, he knew it. That was the sort of attitude that would get his face knocked in someday, but he was willing to risk it. It was all part of the thrill, right? Scyeth was all about the thrill.

"Huh?" he asked, blinking at RuiZhi. "How should I know? I haven't seen all the people in Australia!" he retorted, flashing him a quirky grin. "Seriously though, as far as I know, no one else dresses like this. It's custom-made. Just for me." His grin grew wider. He might not get along with his dad, but he certainly knew how treat his son. "And as far as I know, there are no other mes." The world might blow up if there were more than one Scyeth running around and wrecking havoc.

"Oh, we don't?" He shrugged. Didn't matter. It wasn't like they couldn't move the posters to the new rooms once they left the dorms here. "Yeah, good idea. Great excuse to hit the mall," he purred thoughtfully, fiddling with a bang. "We could probably snag some paint and make this room really stand out. And curtains. And...a chair. A squishy one." He nodded sagely. Of course, this would all take money, which was something he didn't have. "But we can start with posters," he added, glancing at RuiZhi. he didn't want to overwhelm him.

RuiZhi tilted his head, listening to Scyeth in silence. He hadn't meant to imply that the students would try to fight his new rommate - certainly, most of them would tuck tail and flee rather than get in a fist fight - but Scyeth seemed ready. For what? RuiZhi mused, wondering just what branch the spry boy was interested in. He didn't seem too keen on talking about school or studies, so the younger boy would just have to ask later.

He evaluated the boy across from him, brown eyes warm but sharp. Scyeth seemed to be sure of himself, without being too arrogant - yet - with a good sense of humor and a natural type of comfort that came with him. Definitely one of a kind, RuiZhi wasn't sure he'd met anyone quite like the older boy, or that he'd ever want to afterwards; he could tell Scyeth would be the type to keep the younger boy on his toes, and quite frankly, the Chinese boy wasn't quite used to walking on eggshells.

At the mention of paint and chairs, he finally gave in to his laughter, quite amused. It was as though the blonde boy had just waltzed into someone else's home and decided to redecorate it without bothering to inform said owner. RuiZhi didn't imagine the Headmaster would appreciate a strangely colored room, as he was almost 100% certain the walls would reflect Scyeth's personality and color preference, but the idea tickled him all the same.

"Posters then," RuiZhi repeated, a smile still on his face. "Girls and rockstars. I'm afraid you're on your own there, but maybe I can learn as we go." The boy had little interest in girls just yet, and he was fairly certain he didn't listen to that racket his sister called rock music. Truthfully, some of it wasn't all that annoying, but RuiZhi had a hard time listening to a song that used a language he didn't understand very well, especially when the singers weren't too keen on speaking the language clearly.

Scyeth was a wild card; he could be lethal or completely useless. It all depended on how you played him, and if he was willing to be played. RuiZhi did not set off any of his internal alarms, other than that he was smart, and he had a feeling that all of the boys here were that. Well, he'd probably have to watch out for that. But that was all. Otherwise, he just seemed like a nice guy.

Which was a good thing. It would be nicer rooming with a guy he could relax around instead of one that constantly kept him at wit's end. More importantly, it meant he could have a little fun with this guy and not have to worry about getting his a** handed to him on a silver platter, thank you. "Yep. Girls, rockstars and skateboarders. We can add some surfers for good measure." Scyeth shrugged. "Isn't there anything you want?"

For some reason, Scyeth got the sneaking suspicion this RuiZhi fellow wasn't exactly of the same breed. Call it a wild hunch, but the theory grew stronger with each passing comment. "Dude, it is your room too, you know. Isn't there some...I dunno, some something you want to add?" he asked, praying it wasn't something nerdy. His room was supposed to be like a safe haven, so he'd prefer to avoid 'smart, educational' things, please.

"...we should totally get ourselves a game console."

RuiZhi chortled a little, shaking his head and smiling. "I haven't had much time outside of my old village, so I'm sorry for my..." he waved his hand around, trying to find the word, "lack of stuff." He grinned a little sheepishly, suddenly feeling very out of place. Here he was, almost fourteen, and he wouldn't know how to decorate a room if his life depended on it. There had to be more out there than his studies, but he was relatively blind to it.

He brightened at the mention of a game console. Now there was something he vaguely understood! More so than girls and skateboarding, anyway. "Uh, my sister has one of those. Some type of 'station'...she says it's old, but works well enough." Like most things, RuiZhi wasn't hip to the game scene; he didn't even know if such things were still being made. At least it was some sort of common ground he could start to climb with Scyeth.

Scyeth sighed and shook his head. Poor, sheltered little RuiZhi. Well, it would be up to him to expose his roommate to some of the sheer awesome the world had to offer. "We'll fix that," he said decisively, nodding his head. "But you're payin' for your own stuff, man." He had his own things to buy, after all. With all his posters at home, he practically had to start a new collection. (Which wasn't a bad thing, by any stretch. He just wished he had more money.)

His blue eyes lit up as Rui mentioned a sister with a 'station'. "...a Playstation? Playstation 2?" he suggested, hoping one of those rang a bell. He grinned at the thought. "...if it's old, would she be willing to bequeath it upon her darling brother and his adorable roommate?" he prodded, overjoyed with just the thought of getting his hands on a video game.

The boy was a little worried by the statement, We'll fix that. RuiZhi had an outlook that was easy enough, but included, If it's not broken, don't fix it. Good lord, was his feeble grasp on the who-and-whats of the world that broken? Apparently so.

RuiZhi decided to cling to the topic of video games rather than his ineptness at being cool. "Yes, the...Playstation 2, that sounds right." He thought for a moment, smile growing once again at Scyeth's way of thinking and talking. It was refreshing, if not a little silly. "I can ask." Another pause, before adding, "She said it's...modded. I'm not sure what that means though." Absently picking at his sleeves, keen brown eyes turning over the excitable room mate, the boy felt a little more comfortable. "If she thought I was interested, I think she'd be more than happy to shove it at me."

He remembered one time on their first trip together - to the harbor, actually, before he came to the island for the first time - she had called him the most 'unboyish boy ever.' If she had a chance to give him hobbies, she'd probably be in league with Scyeth to make sure it happened. Already, he felt like he was being picked on, and he hadn't even asked yet!
