I have english pointer by the name of Roy. Now, one winter he just appeared on our lake house porch emaciated and looking just pathetic. We fed him and gave him a crate to sleep in. My other dog, Jet (also a stray we saved), who was about 1 at the time, simply adored Roy
That happened about 5 years ago, and Roy was pretty old back then. Now, he is just getting more tired and you can tell that he is ready to go. He used to be a champion hunting dog if you looked at how built he was. Yet, he is still hanging on despite the fact that he has horrible arthritis and a wheezing problem. He has even ran away one for 2 days in a row twice.
I was just wonder, how long is the average lifespan for a English pointer and how will I be able to tell when he is finally about to move on?
Also:
My other dog, Jet, has practically grown up with Roy. When Roy dies, I'm afraid Jet would just give up(like in Where the Red Fern Grows. Is it normal for dogs to be a bit mopey when a fellow dog dies?
(both dogs are male by the way)
