It was the start of another new day, or night rather, and a certain lioness felt the need to stretch her legs. Enticing her mate into a walk hadn't been difficult, spending time together was most certainly a common intrest, to put it very mildly. The fact that the sun wasn't awake yet mattered little, for they had all the light they needed by both the moon and their company. She was just glad he didn't need to patrol for a while, since he did insist she rest instead of accompanying him now, but she couldn't bear being away from him so long, especially now more than before. What would happen when he went back on patrol duty after the cubs were born?
Maybe she'd just have to ask Juhudi or Shin'jougen if one of them minded staying with her during the nights. Oh, and there was always Ukilia, she should find her old friend and enlist her help! They weren't even here yet and already she was wondering over their safety, though, she supposed with Bushido and the other scouts guarding the borders it was unlikely if anything would happen... Dangers still rested within the lands though, scavengers, smaller predators...
"It's beautiful out tonight, do you think we could visit the pond where we met...?" She smiled, watching the entrance for his darker form and paler halo.

He emerged from the den like a shadow, dark hide fading into the night, white mane catching the moonlight in a ghostly glow. His expression was soft and gentle, a smile that shone in deep blue eyes.
"It is, but I find the company much more lovely."
A soft purr, his furry mane brushing against her soft hide as he nuzzled against her affectionately.
It was an odd feeling not taking his patrol each night over the past few days, and though he had protested at first, he knew that he belonged at Kani's side more now than ever. It was a time he savored, cherishing each moment they spent together, thinking of the future and the children that would soon join them.

"You're such a charmer." She teased a bit, feeling playful, if not a bit flustered as per usual. Her head brushed against his side as well, eyes dancing with a sudden burst of energy. "Let's go, let's go!" She grinned, nipping playfully, then bounding ahead a few steps. It was a habit that she must have picked up from Totoro.

His smile broadened, shaking his head with a small laugh. She was energetic as a cub and bright as the stars above.
"You're certainly full of energy tonight."
He stepped forward, following a half step behind her, white paws rustling through the grass along the river bank. But there was a mischievous look in his eyes, as if her energy had infected him as well.
It was now he who turned that energy on her, zipping past her in a short run, pausing a moment to look back at her with a grin that shone even in the darkness.
"Well come on slow poke, I thought you wanted to go for a walk."

"Hey! No fair!" She giggled, shifting from her standstill and into a light trot. Running was becoming akward, but that didn't stop her from trying to keep up at a normal pace.
She almost seemed to purse her lips as she reached him then, eyes narrowing playfully.
"Bushido, I'm absolutely stunned. I had no idea you were so underhanded... It's very... sexy." She grinned, joking, of course. He was anything but, but she couldn't resist the game they'd started, acting somewhat out of character in their play. They could pretend now and then, pretend that she wasn't the reserved and well mannered young lioness, and he the honor-driven, ever-honest warrior that had fallen for one another.

He paused in his steps, ears twitching as she spoke, tail flicking lightly. From any other he would have taken offense at such a statement, but he knew well that she was only playing along. Well then, perhaps it was time to truly begin the game.
"Ah, so you say, but it would be dishonorable of me to not walk ahead and make certain no dangers lurk in the darkness than may seek to harm a damsel in distress."
He smirked, speaking with a dramatic flourish of one forepaw. As he spoke, his tail flicked near the earth, seeking out a small stone to flick into the nearby bushes, his goal to create a small but obvious rustle.

One might think that Kani would be wise to such things with a brother who liked to prank, but she didn't think Bushido would take the game another step further. Her attention shifted with an almost snap of her head, eyes scanning the area where the grass rustled, right on cue and before she could reply. There wasn't... anything out here that posed a threat to lions though, right? Although she did hear just recently about that wild boar's attack on her little sister.
"O-oh? Well, I suppose you're right..." She replied, inching closer.

He nodded, silently grateful for the darkness that hid his cubbish grin. Somehow managing to contain his laughter, his head lowered, his next words spoken to her in a whisper.
"Oh yes, there are many dangerous lurking in the shadows. They sneak around just waiting for the chance to grab you from behind!"
As had spoken, his voice gradually lowered in tone in dramatic emphasis, until his last words when his voice suddenly rose; punctuated by the paw that had gradually snuck up to goose her on the hind end.

A very uncollected, startled cry followed Bushido's paw on her backside, the lioness startling badly enough that she leapt away from what seemed to be the threat, moving behind Bushido oblivously, eyes wide. It was only when she realized that nothing was there that she caught on to what just happened, and felt a hot wash of embarassment.
"That wasn't funny!" She shouted, recovering from the scare.

He struggled to bite back the laughter, doing his best to keep a straight face. Normally Bushido would not have indulged in such pranks, but with Kani it was different, with her there were plenty of games to be played. After all, even a samurai relished the chance to play from time to time.
"You're right, that wasn't funny at all."
But it was, and he couldn't hold back a bright chuckle even as he brushed his head against hers apologetically.

Kani's embarassment only grew, causing her to try to duck her head away so he wouldn't see the flustered look on her face. She just sighed as his head brushed hers again, feeling silly. She muttered something under her breath then and moved to stalk quickly towards the river.
Had he been hanging around her brother, or what?
Only stopping when she reached the water's edge, Kani settled down beside it, shutting her eyes as she felt the cubs shift. How much longer until they came, she wondered? How would she know?

His ears flicked, attempting to catch her muttered words, his own smile fading sheepishly. The game had not been appreciated, perhaps it was one he should not have attempted in the first place, and he silently made a note to himself not to try the trick again before he followed after her to river's edge.
Lowering his head, the dark lion silently lapped at the water, blue eyes turned to watch his mate as if debating the best way to break the silence. A moment's deliberation later he instead shifted closer, his muzzle brushing against her shoulder, a genuine apology spoken without words.
He too could not help but wonder about the future and the new life brewing, the fast approaching day when new voices would fill their lives, small treasures to be shared. But for now, the night belonged to them alone, and the peaceful moon watching over them. Time, could wait until tomorrow.

With her mate joining her again, quiet, she felt a wash of guilt. Poor thing (though which the phrase referred to is unclear.). Kani just couldn't stay upset with him, not that she'd try, or had before. She looked up at him with an apologetic expression of her own and nuzzled her head against his chin.
"I'm sorry, I overreacted." She admitted, hoping he'd forgive her for being childish. It was like reliving a moment from her past, when Shin would prank her on a regular basis. Granted, she loved her brother too, but it was okay to get angry with him, because, well, he was her brother, and that was just how they always were, and probably always would be. Getting upset with Bushido just felt wrong, though. She couldn't stand the idea of being cross at him, and even more, she couldn't stand the idea of him being upset because of it, especially if it meant being upset with her.

He shook his head, a light smile returning to his maw, leaning into her touch with a light flick of his tail.
"You've done nothing to apologize for."
It wasn't her fault he'd scared her, but by now the game was long forgotten and it wasn't important anymore. All that mattered now was the two of them together, and the peaceful night sky above.
"It's a beautiful night, just like when we met."
Yes, this was what mattered now, no honor, no code, no angry parents or lonely sorrow, only two souls sharing the night and the life they shared.
