It was nighttime, and perhaps the time when Angathi was in the best, and most stable mood... when he wasn't sleeping. The old Knight was lounging on a still-warm rock from that day, soaking up the stars and moonlight as if it where the pleasant dreams on the past.
And in fact, it was the past that he thought about then. There was one scouting mission that he had and his Merlok Knight had gone on. They never went to land, or even near it. Their missions always took them deeper and further to sea. It was there that the found many wonders and horrors.
But one time, they met something so great, so kind.... it was a wisened old whale, and she told them many stories. They had talked for two days, time no longer mattering to her. She was too old to have children, but never too old to talk about themall.
Mishos and Angathi had been enraptured the whole night. And now, as Angathi looked up at the starts, he could see her stories coming to life.

It was nighttime, and as such, it was a time when Raisa was asleep. Or should be, that is. But 'should' doesn't mean 'is', in this case. It wasn't for a lack of trying, oh no. She had spent what seemed like hours chasing after the elusive being that is sleep, but to no avail.
So at the present, the night found her wandering. To where, she didn't know, and at the moment, she didn't particularly care. She just simply walked, the feathers on her wings fluffed out to ward off the slight nighttime chill, listening to the sleepy sounds of nature... ....completely oblivious to her surroundings....
Well, it wasn't like anything dangerous was wide awake this late at night.
Raisa, unfortunately, has some wide gaps in her reasoning.

Angathi was still in his own -story-dream-world- when the sound of someone approaching broked through his thoughts. Just the luck, he was thinking of the story the whale told about the romantic Damsel and Knight.
It was about a Kelpi mare royal, she went too far from the herd, and found herself in a bit of a bind. There was a gang of cruel creatures, those long since gone now but at the time were formidable and did not care for how the Kelpi's had made that place their home. So, when they found a Royal who had strayed, well... their luck was with them. They were just about to attack, when a young Knight -bereft of his Merlock companion that day- heard her screams as he was swimming nearby. The Knight charged, and protected the Royal Damsel. She swam to safety, but stuck around. But, the Knight was in trouble, for there were just too many of them. While he hurt their numbers, they hurt him as well... and when the attack was over, he was beaten and bloodied, and too injured to move.
Then, the Damsel came near, the coast was clear of the evil creatures - and they had taken their own fallen with them... cursing the Kelpis and swearing vengeance.
Angathi twitched on his rock, his own body and limbs sprawled out. He only moved his head, and saw the one that approached. The breeze brought over a scent, and it was one familiar yet foreign to him.
She walked closer and closer, slow yet determined. The current of the sea made her fins flutter.
The mare came closer, and when she was near enough, he could make out her 'fins' and the horn on her head twinkled in the moonlight. Angathi whickered in greeting, a drunken look in his eyes as he drank in her form.

It is a lovely night, what with the moon, and the stars and the rocks and the mothingthingontherooockkk....
....Movingthingonarock. Movingthingonarock was staring at her. Staring! And...well, greeting her, she guessed. Though splayed out on a rock wasn't the best way to make a first impression. As her mind slowly absorbed all of this new exciting information, it failed to realize that it should stop moving her legs. So after a brief bit of shuffling (since when did she have so many legs?) she finally halted a short distance from the rock.
Still fidgeting slightly, she nodded her head is response to his greeting, and finally got a good look at Movingthingonarock.
....Oh. It was a pity, she thought, that it was late at night. She probably wouldn't be this absent minded during the day. Well, she might, but that's not the point.
Oh how she curses how her thought process slows to a screeching halt when she's tired!

She moved ever closer, and finally stopped before the Fallen Knight. Instead of touching him, the Damsel looked at his scarred and injured form. She shifted in the water, afraid to ask.... for her, all his pain and hurt... he did it for her.
Angathi smiled in the moonlight, his large wing-like fins twitched in the breeze. Red eyes were misted and gazing at the mare. "The night holds many dangers. How is it that a beautiful creature such as yourself is travelling a lone?" his voice was low and deep, as if the words came from somewhere else and not from him. Not only that, it wasn't something Angathi would usually say.
His broken mind was caught up in something else, a legend or myth brought to life, and carrying his poor soul through the sands of time. Time, time. Time was lost, Angathi didn't know the time, only the story. The story of the Knight and the Damsel he swore to protect.

Raisa pranced a little under the praise, eyes twinkling happily as she peered out from under the few strands of her mane that fell over them. Well, Movingthingonarock wasn't so bad after all!
That is, until her brain registered the slightly distant look in his eyes and the strange tone in his voice.
"Wait....what?" she replied blankly, staring at the Kelpi a with a bit more scrutiny. "Ahm...I was...walking. And uh...." She started fidgeting again, shifting her weight from one leg to the other, rousing her feathers and resettling them, swishing her tail...
"...walking." She mumbled again, not quite knowing what to make of the Movingthingonarock now that he started talking. To her.
Well, maybe he wouldn't be too weird.

The damsel smiled sweetly, looking down at her Knight. She wouldn't admit what she was doing, too modest for that kind of thing. Under his attention, she was shy, faltering at questions like a love-struck filly.
"My dear," His smile widened lazily. "You need not fear me. I will not harm you.... nor would I dream of it." So, it wasn't unheard of for Kelpis to turn on their own, but it was rare... and worse than almost any other taboo.
The Knight dropped his head lower in deference to the magnificent mare before him, in a way to show that in deep he would not harm her... and at this point would do about anything to make her happy. It was too bad he had nothing to offer her, a gift of some sort...
The Knight was heartbroken, for he had no gift available.
"I am afraid I have nothing to offer you, m'lday...." Angathi said quietly, ashamed of being so unprepared.

Okay. So. Taking back the 'not too weird' bit, then.
"Are you feeling alright?" Raisa asked him, wondering if she should just leg it out of there. "And...uh...I'm not your dear. 'Cause...uh..." she pranced in place again, though out of confusion instead of a reaction to a compliment. "...We just met, and all."
She took a step forwards, however, eying him dubiously. Either he was just acting or he was crazy. Why do I always get stuck with the strange ones? she lamented. Curiosity got the better of her, though, and she took another step or two towards the strange soquili.
She wasn't close enough to hear the last bit, though. "You don't seem like you're feeling good, you know."

The Mare was still nervous, and refused to give her name. But she did not run away, for how could she leave him there?
Angathi laughed, his voice echoing in the night air. "Of course I am feeling alright. Why wouldn't I be?" With that, the Knight twisted gracefully on the rock, his scaley skin catching the moonlight, and then his hooves touched the ground.
With the solid area under him, Angathi pushed off the rock and stood before the mare. He bowed before how, his horn twinkling. "And we may have just met, but I know already that you are the goddess of the night, the glory of the moon, the daughter of the soft breeze," the Knight stood again, his fin-wings held close to his body. "And I am a Knight among my people. Sworn to protect and serve.... to make sure pretty ones such as yourself do not find yourselves in any trouble."

"Uhm...well..." Raisa began, but was cut off as Angathi moved off the rock and bowed. What. Is. Going. On?
With a startled snort, she danced backwards nervously, even less sure about what to do now. Sure, this was flattering and all, but still... "I'm the whatnow?" she managed to get out after a moment. See, now would be a good time to run. Fast.
But he'd probably catch up to me and keep on going on like this. So, to save herself the trouble, she just stood where she was.
"Well, I wasn't in any trouble.....I think..."

She played the game well, flirting and denying that little-ol-her would need the protection of a big and strong Knight.
Angathi chuckled and stood, looking squarely at the dark mare before him. His night vision wasn't very good at that point, the stars still swam in his eyes. He could make out her basic form, and that she was a dark color. The stallion drank in her scent, that sweet sweet scent, to remember always. He would not forget.
"Not yet, my dear... you were not in trouble yet. The dangers that lurk in the shadows are usually those to be reckoned with. Who knows how much they could hurt your pretty form. It could be bad.... and then, if I were not here.... you would be wishing for the shining Knight to come to your aid...!" Angathi smiled brightly. This was a very interesting Kelpi... she didn't seem to understand just what a Knight was... or what it meant for him to be around.
Besides, didn't something always manage to go wrong as just the worst time.

Raisa's ears flicked forward in interest as she listened to his words, slowly putting together what he had said earlier to make a slightly less confusing whole. "We~ell....I suppose," she admitted, stomping a hoof as if in agreement. "But I can take care of myself." she added defensively with a defiant toss of her head.
Okay, once she got used to what he was saying he wasn't quite so bad...But still, he was still pretty strange. Though she could get used to the flattery very, very quickly.
"Well, what are you doing out here if it's so dangerous?" she asked after a brief pause, swishing her tail as she stared back at him.

So firm, so confident. How she won his heart and loyalty to fast. The Knight would have gladly laid down his life, just to keep her safe and happy.
Angathi chuckled in his throat, tossing his head to look up at the moon and stars as he smiled. "Ahh, my dear, I am sure you could take care of yourself....." he looked back down and enjoyed the way the molted light flickered off her form. ".. for no one would want to harm a vision so pure. It would be the worst of sins. It is unfortunate that some monstrosities do not see things the same way."
"I am out here to make sure pretty mares such as yourself do not find themselves in an unfavorable situation. You can never be too careful" Angathi winked. "And besides, I am a Knight... it's what I do!"

It it was possible, Raisa would have been glowing red from blushing. But, as it was, she'd have to settle for some more embarrassed fidgeting. "Oh come on," she muttered, "I'm not all of that." It would be nice if she were, but she knew herself too well to be convinced by it.
"Well, yeah, there's the whole night thing, but still." Her composure was slipping, slowly but surely, and she was (grudgingly) admitting that his strange mannerisms were growing on her.
....The fact that he was kinda cute had absolutely nothing to do with that. Nope.

The damsel stayed, and woe to her, for she had strayed too long. For now, the Knight was winning her over.... and the moral was that Knights made horrible lovers, what with their comings and goings. But they were charming protectors, and many a mare succumbed to their silky words and soft tones.
Angathi saw that she was starting to accept his words. He truly believed them, for before himself he saw a gorgeously elegant Kelpi mare. The Knight could hardly believe his ears, "Oh, but you are! Not only are you beautiful, but you are modest and caring. All of which are admirable traits." But looks was definately important as well.
"The night only compliments your splendor"
