The legendary stoner doom band, Sleep, first surfaced in 1990 and played a style worshipping the doom played by Black Sabbath of yesteryear. Well-known for their Holy Mountain and monumental Dopesmoker albums. The trio Al Cisneros, Chris Hakius, and Matt Pike soon took their separate ways; Matt Pike went on to form High On Fire, and Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius went on to form the two-man guitarless band, Om.

Om surfaced in 2003, but released their first album Variations on a Theme in 2005, which was received very positively by fans of Sleep who had been biting their nails to see what Cisneros has been up to. A year later the band puts out another album Conference of the Birds (my personal favorite of the two) and two splits. They are currently working on a new album with the Southern Lord label called Pilgrimage, which will be out this October.

A new dawn awaits!! Southern Lord Recordings and Om have set October 2nd as the official release date for their 3rd (first on Southern Lord) full-length album!! This beast is entitled: “Pilgrimage” and was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, IL. by Steve Albini. The album is currently being mastered by Bob Weston (also in Shellac) at Chicago Mastering Services. “Pilgrimage” expands on their unique use of riff,,, cadence…chant..as heard on previous recordings yet finds the band expanding their vision into new territories. Of particular note is how much the song-writing has developed and in turn makes the dynamics of the songs much more intensely powerful.
The track-listing for “Pilgrimage” is as follows:

1. Pilgrimage
2. Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead
3. Bhimas Theme
4. Pilgrimage (reprise)

A gatefold LP version of the album will also be released sometime shortly after the cd release.

Om will also be performing live on the following dates:

September 13 Cleveland, OH Beachland Ballroom
September 14 Chicago, IL Empty Bottle w/ Circle
September 15 Chicago, IL Empty Bottle w/Daniel Higgs
September 16 Newport, KY Southgate House
September 19 Tempe, AZ Marquee Theatre w/Pinback
September 20 Albuquerque, NM Sunshine Theatre w/Pinback
September 21 Oklahoma City, OK Bricktown Live w/ Pinback
September 22 Dallas, TX Palladium Ballroom w/ Pinback
September 23 Austin, TX Emo’s

…stay tuned for East Coast dates in November and West Coast in December.
…samples of the new recording will be made available on Southern Lord in the near future!

Oh my god, I haven't been this excited about an album release... ever. And East coast tour dates??!! I could die from happiness.

Conference of the Birds is my favorite (especially At Giza), but all three albums are great.
