"C'mon! I bet they're there already!" Ignacio spun on his heel and hollered back impatiently to his slowly striding father. He rocked a bit on the balls of his feet. "When you say one, you get there at one," he added.
Devon rolled his eyes and readjusted the messenger bag on his shoulder. "It's not one yet and this is Zack."
That didn't seem to mean much to Ignacio, though, and he hurried on ahead. They were to meet at the rose garden. It wasn't his idea of fun but it was always cool to see other people and outside was outside. Besides, the sun was shining brightly, it was warm but not hot, and everything was green and alive. For a moment, Ignacio fought the urge to lay down in the grass and roll wildly.
It helped that the impulse coincided with spotting the rose garden and the meeting bench. He doubled his speed to reach it. Unfortunately, no one was there yet so, with a sigh, Ignacio flopped onto the bench and waited for his father who arrived a slow five minutes later.

Devon had been right, of course. Zack was rarely on time for things, never mind early. They were lucky Devakanya had been looking forward to visiting the rose garden, or Zack might have slept until four in the afternoon. The unicorn had to drag her guardian off the couch and pour his bowl of cereal before his brain starting to function within some semblance of 'normal'.
The young girl led her father to the park, easily finding her way to the rose garden. She'd been to see the roses a few times before with her brother (he liked to draw them, she just liked to go out), so she knew the way. It seemed like Ignacio had beat her to it, though. Hanging back a little, she dipped her head, giving the boy a shy wave. He'd grown since the last time she met him!

Spotting the quiet girl, Ignacio grinned whitely and waved back. Then he promptly left the bench to trot a few steps towards her and her father. "Hi, Devakanya," he called and it was rather adorably obvious that he had practiced her difficult name for the occasion. "I'm glad you're not late. It's perfect out here."
Devon pushed himself up from his slouch and raised a hand in greeting. "Hey, Zack. Good timing. I thought this kid was gonna loose it, waitin'."

Devakanya blinked when someone called her name, totally unsuspecting. No one but her father had ever called her by her full name. It was a long name, and quite a mouthful (not that she'd know), so most kids just preferred to summon her by 'Devi'. That's what her brother called her, so she was really quite used to it. After the initial shock, she smiled, dipping her head in a greeting before nodding her agreement. It was very nice out, and he'd picked a nice spot. She turned to look at Ignacio, tipping her head to one side. What would he like to do?
Zack looked startled when someone called his name, brain still functioning on sleep mode. "Huh?" He pulled off one headphone and glanced around, realizing Devon was greeting in. "Oh, hey," he said, nodding his head. "Naw, Devi made sure to get me here on time," he replied, flashing Devon a wry grin.

"She must've woke you up. You look rough." Devon sprawled back on the bench again. "Iggy wakes me up all the time," he added.
Interpreting her look correctly, Ignacio made a vague motion of deferral. "I dunno," he said. "We're outside. I don't care what we do. You wanna just explore the roses or make Dad take us to the playground or something? Dad said he wanted to sketch but we can make him."

"Yeah. Practically pulled me offa the couch," he admitted, nodding. Zack was a notoriously heavy sleeper. A bomb going off outside couldn't wake him up. He yawned, closing his eyes. "If it were up to me, I'da slept 'til noon."
Devakanya grinned. Now that she was a little older, the other children seemed to understand her better. It was really nice. She shrugged back at him, considering the offers. Sketching was fun. Her brother did it all the time, but she was here to play with Iggy. She chewed on her lip thoughtfully. They couldn't go wrong with the play ground. She pointed in the general direction, smiling a little.

Ignacio nodded amiably. Then he trotted over and tugged at Devon's backpack. "C'mon," he ordered. "Devi wants to go to the playground and you said I can't do stuff like that alone."
Blinking slowly, Devon turned to look at his son. "Yeah, that sounded like a please," he drawled. Ignacio huffed and looked at the ground for a moment. Then he muttered something and Devon grinned. "That works. There's flowers by the playground. It'll work." He stood, picking up his bag. He glanced at Zack. "You comin'?"

Devakanya blinked as Ignacio more or less ordered his guardian to take them over to the playground. Suddenly, she felt kind of bad and she looked down, shuffling her feet anxiously. She didn't want Iggy to get in trouble...
...but then Devon agreed. She looked up, tipping her head at Iggy. His father had said okay?
Zack sighed. He had to move again? "Yeah, yeah," he muttered as he stretched. "Let's go." He could probably find a nice tree to sleep in at the playground. Oh, he never changed. Always falling asleep in trees at letting Devi wander off to play.

Devon shot Zack a sideways look and then shrugged. Standing, he shouldered his bag and motioned the kids ahead. "You'll get burnt if you sleep there, anyway," he pointed out in a mutter.
With a bright smile, Ignacio reached for Devi's hand and began leading her ahead. "C'mon," he said. "They're comin' and Dad doesn't mind if I get ahead. As long as he can see us, we're cool. Do you like the swings?" The swings struck him as something a girl like Devi would like. Riley was monkey bars. Devi was swings.

Eugh. Zack didn't do getting burnt. As he was of the fairer skinned, sunburns happened easily and turned out to be quite painful. Besides, peeling was really disgusting and totally unattractive. "Said I was coming!" he insisted, finally getting a move on and following the kids, at a much slower pace. Devakanya never got into too much trouble anyways.
Devi blinked when Ignacio took her hand, a small blush coloring her cheeks. She broke into a trot to keep up with the eager boy, ears flicking as he spoke. She nodded, smiling a little. She liked the swings a lot. It was one of the few things she could play on without worrying about ruining her dress. Maybe she should talk to Zack about her dresses. It kind of kept her from playing games the other kids wanted to play.

"I thought so." Noticing her rushing a bit, Iggy adjusted his pace a bit. They were almost at the swings, anyway. It wasn't like the playground was going to run away. "Do you still have Blackie?" he asked suddenly, remembering the stuffed horse from their first meeting.

Devi smiled gratefully as Ignacio adjusted his pace so she could keep up. Running in dresses could be hard, sometimes. She didn't want to trip and rip her dress. Not only would Zack be unhappy with buying her a new one, she'd be awfully embarrassed. After all, Iggy was a boy.
Oh, Blackie? She nodded, pointing to Zack before pointing to the playground and shaking her head. Blackie lived at home now. Zack said he had to stay at home. She didn't mind too much. She had friends now, and besides, she didn't want dear Blackie getting ruined.

Ignacio nodded, understanding. "Oh, yeah," he said. "Dad makes me leave my toys at home, too. Unless it's balls and stuff like that. Those can come to the park. Everything else, he says I'd lose." He finally released her hand as they reached the swings. Slipping behind one, he held the chains to keep it steady for her and grinned.

Devakanya was never worried about losing Blackie. Ruining him, perhaps, but never losing him. He was her first friend and she was sure to take care of him as such. But with that thought aside, she gracefully moved to the swing Iggy had selected. She sat herself down delicately and grabbed the chains, tipping back to grin at Iggy. He didn't have to push if he didn't want too, even if it was more fun that way.

Ignacio seemed to think the same way and grinned back at her. "Ready?" he asked as he gently pulled back on the chains, dragging her with him. "Do you mind going high?"
