The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. --Charles DuBois Name: Lexi ((Greek: means "Defender of Mankind")) Gender: Female Rank: ALPHA! ((lexi: I'm in charge! whee )) Mother: Missing, presumed dead Father: Missing, presumed dead Relationships: Feanaro I don't know whats become of Feanaro, but he brought the blue eyed human to the pack...what does that mean for him? Gaara I love him, I think...I hope he feels the same...and I hope I have the strength to cary on if I'm wrong. I told Feanaro I would never let anything break me...I hope I was right. I know I made the right choice in making him my mate. He has the strength to be an Alpha to shake the pack lands with me. Haku Haku taught me a great deal, including in his tolerance to the one eyed Human "MealTicket". He leads his pack well, but it's his pack, not mine, and It's time I move on. It's time I became an Alpha. Nile I don't know her well enough yet I think she's a strong soul, I can see the beginings of it in her eyes. She has so much to overcome, but I think she will offer more to our apck than she knows. Rune (not yet aquainted) Bran/Mealticket He has no teeth or claws, but his strange black stick can kill a deer...or put one of those feathered twigs through an tree. It's a power I'd take for myself if I thought I could. Hinto/Ohanee (Shadow) Like Nile, I see many obstacles in his path. I don't think this one would survive if it wasn't for Gaara's human. Do humans form packs? Do they see themselves as part of ours as we see them? Herself : I -AM- An Alpha as I always said I would be. I know my strengths. I know my weaknessess, and I know my pack. They are mine, and no one will take them from me and live. If thats what it takes, I'll shake the packlands with my strength, and show everything alive that there are none stronger than those that are with me. Art: (Thalion made this nifty little icon of Lexi for his journal. c_C Ish cool) ANother awesome bit of Thalionness, this was from Rune's journal.[/img] ----------------------------------- BronName: Bron (last name not set) Race: Human (mixed native/outsider) Hair: Black Eyes: One dead white, the other brown-amber Height: 5'10 Profession: Hunter Rank:..."Do I look like a wolf?" Mother: Outsider. Elaina Greyjoy Father: Native. "?" Breif History: Bron was once the child attacked by Gaara. At the time he was living with his father in a small native village, and like a lot of children, had his moments of naivity. One of them was to try and play with a wolf blinded by rage. (Gaara) He lost an eye in the process, and gained a good many scars on his arms and shoulders trying to protect himself. He's been very careful with animals since, and actually left the village with his outsider mother for a long time. She may have once loved his father, but the experience made the area loose all it's 'quaint native charm'. His mixed upbringing makes Bron culturaly torn, somewhere between the urge to see animals as fully intelegent, and also trying to see them as mindless brutish things with no purpose but to serve, feed, or clothe men. He grew to be a trapper, prefering to use an compound bow over a riffle, although he's had enough time to learn to use both, even with the limitations of having one eye. Wolves have almost never been a subject of his hunt, not being prised for much more than a bounty, he's always hesitated to call in that bounty, and prefers to trap more standard fur animals, like ermine, bear, fox, and beaver. Only recently has he encountered Gaara again, an startling experience that ended MUCH better than he expected it to, and is begining to reafirm an more native outlook on animals intelegence, especially Gaaras. Brans name for Gaara: Hakan (Fire) Brans name for Lexi: Taima (thunder) (Chosen by Hinto) Brans name for Nile ((player note: Bron's journal entries will be posted after Lexi's, and will be in 'letter' format, written to his mother, the aging Mrs. Greyjoy.)) ---art--- This was also from Rune's gallery, though the art is mine. ---in which the defender is defended---
After wandering lost for some time, Lexi has, (hurah!) found a pack. Now too bad she can't find a better journal writer. Faenaro, on his way to the South with his tiny pack, paused to call for any who wanted to join him, not, I think, fully expecting an answer, but he got one. Lexi, who called back, and ran to join the first wolves she'd heard since the destruction of her pack by the unknown foe. She has been introduced to Gaara, who she finds small and fierce, but refuses to let see that she's a little afraid of them still) Faenaro, and Faenaro's new mate. (Autumn Goddess?). She's not quite sure what exactly happened that made Faenaro so happy, but it's contagious, and it's been so long since she's been happy...or thats how it seems. And now, they begin the journey south.

The Southern Lands: (Not the Bear Story Again!!!) Fea has led his pack to an beautiful piece of land in the South, and settled them into an abandoned bears den overlooking a stream. Lexi has taken to the area, and declared it "The best place EVER". For someone who lacks an eye, she certainly doesn't lack for enthusiasm, although when she starts learning to hunt, she'll have to make up for the lack of vision on one side, and the depth perception it will cost her. In the meantime however, she's quite happy bothering Fea, and imagining what she'll be when she grows up. The kid has big ideas. Weather or not she'll grow up to fit those ideas is another story.

Gaara has left the pack, and she doesn't know why. She also never knew the pup enough to know his bloodthirsty side, and wonders what on earth could have made him leave this 'paradise' they've found. This makes more responsibility for a growing wolf, but she shoulders it readily enough, and probably wanders further afield than she should, trying to prove how ready she is to be part of the pack.

The Defender Goes to War:
Feanaro and Lexi set out to find out what became of Gaara, and woe betide the dark pup, because they found him. Gaara changed packs, and now Haku and Gaara both face the wrath of two betrayed wolves. Feanaro is a mighty fighter, and Lexi has been learning from him.

What is Truth?
"Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true." --Buddha Chase after the truth like all hell and you'll free yourself, even though you never touch its coattails. --Clarence Darrow
How much things change over the course of a night. Lexi has realized that her hero, Feanaro of the Southern Pack, is going Mad, and she is determined to stop this. She attempts to take the alpha-rank from the SouthernPack from him without fighting, and fails, as he accuses her of betraying him. Angry, she announces that she has never betrayed him or walked away from him, but that he runs from everything he loves. She declares her full intent to make an Ally of Haku, and join the two packs in freindship to make them stronger. Again, Feanaro refutes the idea, saying he will never ally himself with Haku, and Lexi ends up leaving, telling him to stay where he is, and to trust her, because she will not let him slide into madness without a fight. She returns to Haku's lands, and speaks to the older wolf, asking his forgiveness for their earlier words, and asking him to be an Ally, and to teach her how to be stronger, so that she can eventually return to the South as a stronger wolf, and take alphadom, and seal a pact between the two packs, weather Feanaro wills it or no. She has also confessed her feelings to, and heard Gaara's feelings confessed, though as of yet she has not told him what her plans are for the southern pack. She hopes, very strongly, that he will support her, the little alpha with no pack.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.--George Orwell

Take Destiny in your Teeth "And when man faces destiny, destiny ends and man comes into his own." -André Malraux,
Feanaro has struck the blow that will sever all ties between himself and Lexi, and set her on the path of being more determined than ever to do what she promices. Feanaro's crows attacked while she was in the pack den helping Carmen attend to a wound, and harassed Lexi until she gave up and followed them into the woods and up into the mountains, into a remote hard to reach cave where Feanaro had fallen unconsious, victim of an illness that enhances his madness, and taps his bodys strength. Had he been alone, she might have simply nursed him until he was well enough to return home, but shivering in the back of the cave was Sable an pup stolen and terrorized by Feanaro. She was outraged by the gesture, but attempted to try and nurse Feanaro anyhow, since she'd promiced to do so. Asked by Sable what her tie was to Feanaro, she siad "I am his alpha, or I will be." She sent Sable for water, and then ended up dashing down the slope after him when she realized he'd been gone a little too long. The pup having been caught in the current although he managed to pull himself out before being swept away. However, durring the interm, Feanaro pulled himself to his feet and has wandered into the wilderness surounded by his ravens, leaving only the message. "I Follow No One." Between this message and the terified pups story of what happened to him, Lexi will offer no quarter the next time she meets her old alpha. She will see him return to reason, or she will destroy him before he hurts anyone else.

The Shadow of a Dark Beast
But goodness alone is never enough. A hard cold wisdom is required, too, for goodness to accomplish good. Goodness without wisdom invariably accomplishes evil. Robert Heinlein
"He who does not punish evil, commands it to be done." Leonardo da Vinci
"The Blood Dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocense is drowned --"The Second Coming" --Yates
There's an old proverb that No Good Deed Goes Unpunished, and maybe in some cases that's correct. Lexi is finding it so, after discovering the very pup she saved from Feanaro is the pup who has been stalking Haku's pack. Returning time and again after several thorough beatings by Gaara. The persistance is disturbing, and frightening on the gut level of a Wolf, going fully against all instinct of self preservation, to return to a pack that has warned you against your lands, and invading anothers territory is to risk attack or death. Lexi herself took great risk in aproaching Haku to ask to join the pack because of Gaara, but she's seen others lately who don't understand the seriousness of the pack. What to her is instinct, deep and gut level (protect and defend the pack! The pack is family!). Disturbed by this, and by Feanaro's own persistance in lurking around the pack, (again dangerous to his continued health) She prepares to move with Haku's pack still wondering about Feanaro's sanity, and with an strange and growing sense of the danger that other wolves present. Haku delivers exiting news, that his made is carrying pups now, which makes the need to protect the pack even more dire, especially with Feanaro's demonstrated willingness to steal pups, perhaps now made more desprate as the season to made rolls past, and he still leaves his own mate abandoned miles away, to fend for herself. They loose another pack mate when Mononoke, an omega adolecent who wandered to the pack the day before to beg to come along, leaves again, catching the scent of someone else she would rather join, which makes things more tense, and finaly things come to a head when as Gaara, Lexi and Carmen guard the pups on the move...Sable is seen, aproaching the pack stealthily from behind, and on his last warning. Charged with guarding the pups durring the move, and with Gaara, who is charged with protecting the pack at large, as a mate and fellow tactisian, Lexi exchanges words with her dark furred and dark tempered mate, and vanishes into the underbrush "After a Rabbit". Gaara waits a moment, allowing himself to be clearly seen by the young Sable, who after several attacks for his repeated infractions has learned to associate the larger wolf as a threat. Once he's sure he's been seen, Gaara gives an terrifying howl, the kind he sometimes uses to make prey scatter and run, and follows in Lexi's track. It certainly helps the image that they have started a hunt...and they have. With Sable distracted and looking for Gaara, Lexi makes her silent attack from behind, and Gaara from the front. With the intruder and threat trapped between their jaws, Sable crys out for Haku, insisting that he wants to rejoin the pack, in spite of turning his back on it previously and almost causing Haku's death. He claims there are humans in the area, attempting to use the threat to save himself, but Haku, between his pregant mate and the dangers that have previously been poised on him by trusting the pack, refuses to listen this time, and tells Gaara and Lexi to finish the job. Many would never imagine Lexi, the boisterous pup with her interest in stories, to be able to pass sentence on an wolf not even to adolesence, but there's simply been too much going on. With Feanaro's demonstrated madness, and Sables Bizzare behavior as threats against her new pack and mate, she sees no pup as she and Gaara rend Sable limb from limb. She sees only the shadow of a monster that destroyed her birth pack. With only their corpses in her eyes, and their blood scent in her nose, she helps put an end to Sable, and the pack moves to flee from the hunters. What she doesn't know yet, is that Feanaro, still following his strange and twisted crows...is still stalking the pack, his shadow hanging over them from behind like a dark beast.
And what dark beast, it's hour come 'round at last, slouches toward Bethlehem to be born? --"The Second Coming" -Yates

The Madmans Glass
She is Seen through the Madmans Glass And all her love is seen as hate And all her duty seen as wrong How torturous a thing, to love and to be only scorned in return. -H. Whidden
"This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." William Shakesphere
The crows have been discovered, still stalking the pack...and worse. In spite of Leera's attempts to drive them away, the crow Suuru seems strangely impervious to the seers imensely powerful attacks, and refuses to flee. Instead he has 'befreinded' the pups, and is somehow comunicating with them, in spite of the fact that wolves and crows share no common tounge, and is turning them against Lexi with poisonously sweet words and coaxings. Lexi attempts to drive away the crow, calling Gaara, the one on whom the crow seems to have focused it's attentions, to her, begging him to get rid of it, and let her protect him, explaining where it came from. Gizmo, refuses to hear her, and instead cringes from her. As she tries to think what to do to save the pup from the influences of Feanaro, it begins to dawn on Lexi that she is seen as the monster here, for no reason other than doing what she was asked to do by the pack alpha. There is no other betrayal in the world like this one, to be feared by someone you seek to protect, and it's already happened once in Lexi's life. Being stabbed through the heart by a freind or lover might be kinder, and gentler on the wounded soul.

Promises to Shadows
I made a promise to the shadows Spoke of truth and the nobility I saw inside myself And the shadows called back.... There are only shadows within... --H. Whidden
"I have long since come to believe that people never mean half of what they say, and that it is best to disregard their talk and judge only their actions." Dorothy Day
Feanaro, in maddness or in health, slowly becomes the ideal of everything Lexi feels she must overcome in order to prove herself to herself. Haku has accepted her, and looks on her as a sister, an accnowledgement that means a great deal to the younger wolf, although she yet has trouble seeing in herself what others do. She knows she's strong, and that she has as much power to terrify as to protect, but it's the power to terrify that haunts her, having once been terrified herself. With Lera's puppies born, the drive to protect the pack is even stronger, and it's everything in her power not to simply attack Feanaro when he arives on pack lands, claiming he only wants to 'speak' to Gizmo, the pup who has been haunted by the bird Suuru, in spite of all efforts by Haku and Lexi and the others to get rid of the beast. Worse is Feanaro's apparent inability to see the reasons behind her leaving his pack for Haku's and his claim that Lexi would 'break' him if she were an alpha. Tied in with the reaction of the pups at Sable's death, it's another blow to Lexi's self view, and although she refuses to beleive Feanaro's words anymore, she can't help but cringe at the warped reflection of herself the Dark Wolf presents. Outraged and hurt, burning inside with a cold determination to be rid of the twisted reflections he casts on her, she tells Feanaro to leave their lands, and return to his mate, and that someday she will do as she promised, saying he is already dead inside, in heart and reason, to do the things he's done, leaving others to pay the price for them.

Letters to Mrs. Greyjoy "I'm sure you've told your inner circle of freinds how long it's been since I last wrote. I'm not going to apologize, It's winter and Its a very long trek to find someone who can take a parsel of letters to be shipped to you. If it was at all feasable I'd consider training some kind of bird to FLY them to you, but I don't think I've met any birds up for that sort of flight. It's a good winter, if cold. I've been trapping ermines, which I know you disaprove of me doing but think of your white opera muff. Maybe I'll send you my next bundle and you can make a matching coat. Naturaly I imagine you'd have the servants handle it until it came back from the tailors. (Cured hides are unlikely to leap out of the packing crate and attack you though...) No I don't miss the society, yes I'm still convinced that I enjoy it out here 'playing barbarian'. I'm part 'barbarian' remember? Speaking of which I met someone you might remember. Dark, handsome...Amber eyes and an thick fluffy coat with black markings. Your type really right up until the last bit. See if you can guess who I'm talking about. He came up and helped me get rid of some ermine carcasses after we enjoyed a short discussion as to weather or not we planned on forgiving each other for times past. Seemed to work out all right. (I'm writing to you aren't I? And I still have all my fingers and toes...although if I want to keep it that way I'd best go and cut some more wood.) Regards

heart Letters to Mrs. Greyjoy
I think these notes are going to become somewhat more a journal than an effort to justify my not finding your society clubs entertaining, it'll be more worthwhile that way, if you don't mind my saying, and as much as you protest I think you always did enjoy a good scandal. Besides didn't you say that gentleman you liked so much enjoyed hearing stories about the wild frontier? I'm going to be keeping my eyes out for that wolf I was telling you about. He looks too well fed to be a lonewolf, who tend to be notoriously unhealthy. Well in theory he could have been living off the remnants of my catches, but I think I would have seen him before now if he had. And I really hadn't seen any trace of wolves until just recently. I have no intention of just barging into a wolf den, I'm not that foolish, no mater what you think of my escapades. Quite the reverse actually, it will help me keep out of their way if I know where they are. The more time I spend out here the more I remember the things my father tried to teach me before I left with you, and the more I wish I'd stayed to learn more. Not that I don't care for you, you're my mother after all, but I still feel like were were made for different worlds.

In their Frailty, I see Great Strength Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body. --Elizabeth Stone
Lexi and Carmen, on the return from the encounter with Feanaro, stop to do a little fishing. Carmen herself is one of the wolves with the unusual skill of fishing, although Lexi apparently exeeds her talent at it, large in part due to her childhood with Feanaro, who, along with his mate had an interest in fish catching that many wolves don't. The two fresh catches the Skeletal pattered Carmen and Lexi bring back are most welcome fore Lera, who's just plain HUNGRY, and finds the taste of fish, which she's never sampled before, quite a novelty. Lera also allows Lexi to come inside the den and meet the puppies, which is aweing to Lexi, who can barely imagine the rigors of being pregnant, let alone living entirely in the depths of a den and relying on others to bring you meat until your pups are grown enough to be watched by others. She is facinated and charmed by the tiny size of the pups, and the strange perspective of remembering somewhat what it feels like to be so small, and yet to be standing there as one of the defenders of the pack. It's a powerful note of perspective that will, without doubt, futher temper the iron resolve she has to protect the ones she cares for, and ensure that pups like this can grow safely with their own mothers.
To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved. --George MacDonald

The Wendigo ((I titled this journal the Wendigo because before it was an Whitewolf Clan, the Wendigo was an brutal Wind Spirit, that would seize wrongdoers and make them run until they had no feet. It's also a spirit of winter...))
"Winter is nature's way of saying, "Up yours."" ---Robert Byrne
A storm has come, an dark and powerful one that blackens the skys above the forest, and sends a wind ripping through the trees strong enough to rattle them to their roots. Lexi, caught at Lera's birthing den when it happened, has been asked by Haku to try and help move the pups to the main den. She's worried at the prospect, but more worried by the idea of leaving Lera and her pups here, alone, this far from the protection of the other wolves. She's also concerned for Gaara, who, along with many of the pack, seems to be far from the den sight. Haku has gone to search for them, but it doesn't do much to asuage her worry, not after Gaara earlier smelled of Man....
Letters to Mrs Greyjoy
This letter may never see paper, but if it doesn't...I hope some news reaches you. I'm out in the woods...I went to retreive my ermine traps because of an winter storm rolling in. You always pointed out my tendency to become sidetracked...I should really have taken the lesson a little better. I fear I was a bit distracted by a wolf pup hanging on my coat tails. A brown and white one, like the King Charles Spaniel you used to keep, only without the weepy eyes. I called him Helke. It means Touch, you know, in my fathers language, because he put his paw in my hand. Hakan is here too, I think the pups were looking for him. Yes there are two of them...the other is the strangest creature. It's fur is green, dark green like moss, or that old jade necklace you have from the orient. I must be feeling quite native, I called it Karmiti. Trees. I should have left the damn traps, it's gotten very dark very quickly, and there's a strong wind kicking the snow up, and obscuring the trail. I'd give my left arm to have Hakan's sence of smell, I fear being able to find my way back to the cabin like this. If I don't...those damn letters will be sitting on my table until some other trapper wanders through and finds my cabin with the roof falling in for lack of care. I wonder if anyone would miss me but you and your little group. I'm sure you'd find another source of gossip though, and it would be marvelous to gain sympathy. Well I'd sure as hell miss me. That doesn't make any sence though. It's just me cursing myself out as it were. Pray for luck...

Meeting Selia Selia and Devvyl have Come to visit the packlands, and Selia's brother Haku! It's quite an time for Lexi, in the wake of the storm, with the introduction of Bran "Mealticket"/"Sloane" Greyjoy, who managed to get on Lera's bad side while trying to wait out the storm. Keara became quite attatched to the human durring the interim, and is now wearing an small stone THING around her neck. Strange that pup. Meeting Selia is flooring in it's self. Finaly getting to meet the She-Wolf that captured Feanaro's attention beyond all reason. Is she a goddess, or a wolf, to drive a wolf so mad?

Will You Follow Where I Lead Rosalynn Carter: A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go but ought to be. Unknown: Some leaders are born women.
------
A great deal has happened: Lexi has grown from a wild, slightly savage adolecent into an silent, stealthy and cunning adult wolf. Her silent, ruthless attacks, speed, and stealth are a good partner for her massively powerful and equaly cunning and ruthless mate Gaara, and Lexi is ready to take this cunning and use it to forge a pack with her mate. She has left Haku's pack lands in silence, so as now to risk the wrath of Haku and his Tempermental mate Leera, although some time ago it was Haku she asked to teach her the ways of being an Alpha. With her, she brings Bran and Hinto as human members of the pack, an first in the woods, although without a seer amoung them, this strange alience is strongly limited in communication, but Lexi suspects her mate sees strong potential in Bran's strong bow arm and one good eye. Hinto is strange, and blind, and Nile, Lera's daughter, is mute, but both have willingly joined the pack in her eyes, and therefore each has their place. Whatever gods a wolf might follow, Lexi is a new alpha, and full of the confidence that this will work out to her favor.
Letters to Mrs. Greyhoy I know this letter will never reach england at this rate, and I'm also not sure I care. I don't even have the paper with me to write it down. I've left my little cabin, and I've brought an full native with me. I don't think he's from my fathers tribe, but then what would I know of that. His name is Hinto, for his blind blue eyes. An wolf left him at my doorstep this winter, and he stayed. We're headed along the river together to build a new cabin away from the old pack. Yes I said 'Old' Pack. Hakan and his Grey mate seem to have desided to make themselves Alphas and have wandered off, bringing with them the little mute. Not so little anymore. Seems we've, the two of us, been adopted by the wolves, and I don't much mind that. I feel safer with Hakan around, rather than that 'Witch Wolf'. If she's a spirit creature, she's an dark one...
