Discuss your opinion on why or why not abortion should be legal/ illegal in the World/ United States.
I do believe it should be legal because of the problem of overpopulation in this world.

I find it terribly tragic to end a life, but a lot of these abortions are from teen mothers. They most likely didn't ask for this. They have their whole lives ahead of them, and having a baby would end that. So yes, I think it should be legal.

I think it should be legal because some for some women, myself included, pregnancy can be fatal, and no birth control methods are 100% failsafe.

I suppose it should be legal because of the fact that some people might have gotten pregnant through a tragic occurance, like rape.. I don't think it would be easy to handle having it stay with you for 9 months and having to go through so much pain.. ~ I Love Tommy ~

How many hangings tonight... My outlook on abortion is actually somewhat two sided. While it should be legal for teens who got pregnant who just can't take care of a child at their age, because they need to go to school. If an ADULT wants to get an abortion, I don't think that should be legal, but... Since they're adults and know very well what could happen if you have sex, they should take the responsibility of getting pregnant whether it was an accident or not. However, there are some people who have money troubles and just can not afford to feed another mouth, so an abortion might we necessary, but you could always just have the child and put it up for adoption. But there's never a good chance that that child will get adopted and will just have to wait until their 18 to move along on their own.
But, in my opinion, I think it should be legal for certain people. If an ADULT wants to get an abortion out of their own selfishness, I'd say no, that shouldn't be legal. But if it's for a good reason like money or school or whatever reason thats reasonable, then yes, that should be legal.
EDIT: I also agree with what Kyle said.

// Overpopulation is not so much a problem in the United States. Overpopulation is a problem in third world countries, and most of them happen to be very religious, and look down very much on any form of birth control. *tries not to start a religious debate ^^;*
Well, I think abortion should always be legal--there are situations where it's just the best thing to do. sad I do agree that aborting a little being is super sad, and if it was me, I'd be so torn... As long as people are free to get an abortion/not get an abortion, it's all good. The mother should decide what goes on in her body.
I suppose it comes down to whether you believe that a fertilized egg is a "life" or not. My belief about that comes from the quote "I think, therefore I am" and the brain in a baby does not develop until a later stage of pregnancy. I'm more against abortions if it's taking place after the baby's brain starts developing. ><

I was just thinking about this video we watched in school once about India... that's why I mentioned that. But the video was about this group of women that went to teach Indian women about sex/babies and birth control. So, I suppose it's going in the right direction. surprised
D; Africa... it's so sad.

And when we meet, Which I'm sure we will, All that was there, Will be there still I think abortion should only be allowed in cases of health reasons. Like if it would harmful to the mother or if the baby has a defect that would make it retarded or lame or something. Otherwise, it's a form of birth control and even if the zygote isn't conscious, it ultimately is the basis for a human being and is how we all started out. Teenagers aren't allowed "Do-overs". If they felt the were adult enough to have sex, they'll have to deal with the consequences. Society, in it's desire to keep teenagers from getting pregnant so young, tell them it will be such a hardship that they can't handle. But, I think it's also having an negative effect on the girls who DO get pregnant. They believe they can't handle it and look at it as such a damper on their life. Yeah, it makes things harder. Not easy to get schoolwork done when you have a tiny infant craving attention. Family should be supportive though and help out. I have a friend who got pregnant at 14 and now has a three year old son. She stayed in traditional high school and graduated this year and is going to a university this fall. On top of all that, while in high school, she had tons of extra circular activities she did and during her junior year, she had to fight for child support and custody of her baby. Sooo, teenagers can do it. They just don't want to grow up. They should have thought about that before they took their clothes off. >3> Oh, and I used to be for it when I was 15. o3o I even have a paper written about it.. I changed my mind after I saw what my friend went through though. Sorry for the long response. o.o I get spirited about certain things. >> I'll let it pass, And hold my tongue, And you will think, That I've moved on

I believe it should be legal. Parents should have a choice, some teens may be able to handle it (like Jahzara Ashford's friend) however the fact is that some teen parents can't really afford a baby. Sometimes teen parents find themselves deserted by their families and the other parent of the baby.
Yes, I also agree with abortion not being avalible for younger teens so they have to think harder before they try anything again, but think about the baby who may have to grow up in a shelter because it was given up or taken away from it's mom. Older people should be more responsible, they really shouldn't have to even think about abortion.
However, if abortion ever becomes illegal, rape victims should be able to have abortion, it would be cruel to make them have someone else's baby. ummm...I think that's all I have to say about this issue...

. I believe it should be legal, but it also depends on the mothers choice.. Because if it's a teen, who had sex or was raped, they might even want to keep it, but if they didnt want to, having to wait 9 months for adoption for be very trying for the mother. But adult women who just happen to get pregnant shouldn't really be allowed unless they were raped.. and the fetus isn't really life, and it can't make it's own choices. i agree with nuggit that since the brain isn't developed until the later stages, it's not really life.

I am 100% all for abortion.
Not only because of rape and overpopulation, but also because of stupid decisions by teenagers. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like most of the teenagers who have babies are those who go out partying and had too much to drink, then they're too drunk to remember to wear a condom. There are also those rebellious teens who probably have a criminal record...
I read somewhere that a large percentage (like 80%, I forget the exact number) of teen parents come from parents who also had kids while in their teens. So it's kinda like a cycle...

This is why a lot of people don't want it. These teens go out and drink and have sex because they think to themselves that they can just have an abortion. They are using Abortion like a Pill. They can just go off and have sex everywhere and always can just have an abortion when they find out they are pregnant. They're abusing it.
But there are times like Rape that makes me want Abortion to be legal. It's not their fault it happened. They didn't ask for it. D: It's not fair to them.

I'm not 100% sure if this is right, but I once saw a statisitic that said less than 10% of abortions come from women who were raped, absolutely cannot afford the child, or could not safely have a child.
