King Diamond is the band that King Diamond (Kim Petersen) formed after the split up of Mercyful Fate - following the departure of Hank Sherman. He was joined by most members of the then defunct Mercyful Fate. The style has lost most of its proto-black metal style and became a progressive metal band. The Satanic focus was replaced by a focus on horror stories. Apart from two albums, each of the albums contained a story told throughout the songs; some stories span more than one album. Only Fatal Portrait and The Spider's Lullaby deviate here, in that only half of the songs form a story while the other songs are independent. His extremely high falsetto vocal style is notable.
King Diamond is one of my favorite Heavy Metal bands.
Fav album: Abigail
Fav. Song: Sleepless Nights

Abigail
Although, It would probably be better to start with Mercyful Fate (If you haven't already), either Melissa or Don't Break the Oath.
You might want to go to myspace and try and listen to something from him, not everyone likes his vocal style.

I am very fond of "THEM", and Give Me Your Soul...Please as well. Abigail however is also very good. Just don't start with Abigail 2 or Conspiracy and you should be fine.

Gravechylde And I really wanted to see them live, but they had to cancel the tour. emo I had this luck to see them live. They came to this city, which is a ******** surprise as all metal gigs tend to be organized in Warsaw, Katowice/Chorzow or Krakow. What's more this was Mercyful Fate AND Kind Diamond (two shows for the price of one wink ) This guy is amazing. He would have been a fantastic actor should he wish to.
