Stephen King is in my personal opinion one of the greatest authors of all time and I have created this topic to discuss his work be it fiction or non-fiction his life whatever. I grew up and regrettable still live in the south where his name is more often than not pronounced stevan kang and things like lighting bolt are pronounced lynin bol. so any chance I get to discuss something of an intelligent nature with people possessing an IQ that actually reaches the double digits is refreshing. So chat away my friends

My favorite book of his is...IT. I got so freaked out reading it I had to take a full day break between reading and I couldn't read after sundown. It still gives me the heebie jeebies everytime I look at the book. I had to buy a new copy because of how worn out I had gotten my old one.

Question for you: How many books have you actually read by Stephen King?
He is an amazing writer and I know this by only reading a few of his books. I stopped reading a lot when I graduated from high school.
He has a very different, descriptive, and imaginative way of writing. If you can't see that at least, then you need to open your mind a little more.
It doesn't matter if you LIKE what he writes about, it's if you can actually see that the man is truly talented.
Also, he writes because he's good at it. He writes because it's what he loves to do. It is his profession.
...to know you're mine.

I tried reading some of his books, but I just couldn't get into his writing. Though a couple people in my family love his work. I think it's amazing how many books he's got out. : O

Best Stephen King work: The Dark Tower series. Hands down. But I like pretty much all of his stuff. I like the way he makes his characters seem more human that a lot of other writers do (i.e., he awknowlegdes that fact that they go to the bathroom, shower, have sex, etc.). It makes them easier to relate to.

I've never actually read any of his books, only a few short stories. I do love his essays though. Especially the one about the phrase "What if".
His style...it's very unique, there's that word again, to say the least. Very voiced, very plain and haunting. I enjoy mostly, when he talks about writing his stories, rather than the stories themselves.

I love his short stories, especially Everything's Eventual (the entire book, not just the one story). I haven't been able to read the entire Dark Tower series yet... damn library!
My favorite book of his would probably be Rose Madder or The Stand. Lisey's Story wasn't up to my expectations at all, and some of his earlier books just bombed. But hey, he keeps writing. On Writing was actually quite humorous.

I agree, the Dark Tower series is by far my favorite work of his. And the fact that other books of his Like The Stand and 'Salems Lot branch off from that is a little much, but the way he makes everything coinside so perfectly is really impressive.
Everything's Eventual was really good too (whole book.) He's so inredibly ... sick. I suppose the reality of it is a little ... refreshing would be the wrong word, but it seems closest to what I can't really explain.
I will admit that a lot of his work falls short of what it can be, but when he hits it, he hits it hard.

The style is eerily descriptive... sometimes he gets a little too into it, but a lot of the time he does a fantastic job.

Stephen King (whom I love, I have tons of his work) is a lot like The Smashing Pumpkins' original decade; He came out with so much, and so much GOOD that even if he did come out with something sub-par for himself, dare I say borderline mediocre, it was still something that flew off the shelves, because people love him and have come to associate his name with a very positive connotation of the writing world.
My personal favorites were 'Salem's lot, IT, The Tommy Knockers, and Needful Things.
