Zola clung to the small bag of Galleons and Sickles she could afford to spend on school supplies as she made her way past anonymous witches and wizards standing, searching and talking in the street of Diagon Alley. Rummaging in her bag, she briefly held up a small, unnaturally purple tea cup her mother had given her before she'd left ("Don't let anyone say your mother didn't give you your own pet, dear!"), before finding what she was blindly looking for: an orange-tinged quill, slightly shorter than most, as if it had been punched in its non-existant nose. It was certainly an odd device: a rare find, her maternal grandfather had told her when she'd opened her Christmas present to find what looked like a poor excuse for a school supply.

What had seemed like a truly disappointing Christmas gift had turned out to be not just rare, but invaluable. It was her journal - Zola watched as it rose from her hand to right next to her right ear. She spoke in a whisper, and the quill moved with her words, writing on absent parchment. Zola knew, however, that when that quill touched parchment later on, the words would quite literally spill from the quill, and her thoughts would be mapped out for her eyes alone.

She moved through the energized people, whispering little quirks and phrases that crept into her mind and her ear. She walked past stores that required her attention if she had any interest at all in doing well this upcoming year, but Zola never felt that school supplies were quite as important as simple observations. The school supplies could be bought later; the moments she was recording with the help of a briskly fluttering quill wouldn't last more than a second without her careful monitoring.

Kale's robe billowed behind him as he strutted out of Knockturn Alley. His many efforts to find the murderer of his father were, once again, empty. Kale surpressed a shiver as he took silent relief in leaving behind the sinister shops, but he would show no fear of anything. Especially that of which he was raised by.

He had hours of time on his hands as his Grandfather sent one of their many servants for his school supplies. Turning into Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, Kale indulged himself in cone, chocolate oreo double brownie fudge. He surpressed a smirk as the man who served him his cone turned green from the mere thought on all that chocolate. But, oh did Kale have a famous sweet tooth.

Exiting the Parlour, Kale nearly ran into a rather cooky looking witch who was talking to a feather. Chuckling, he fell into step behind her, wondering what she could possibly buy with such a small purse of galleons. 'Or maybe she already spent her money.' Kale added as a second thought. Making a justified escuse for her

(Aboslutely!)

Zola continued walking through the crowded street, falling into a comfortable rhythm of walking and whispering, and soon enough she was barely aware of anything else but the small moments that her eyes found and focused on just long enough to document before moving on.

Beofre she knew what was happening, Zola felt noticeably lighter; only after a few seconds of disorientation as she came back to reality did she realize someone had just taken the small bag that she was supposed to be guarding so carefully. Whipping around so that she barely missed being poked in the eye by her quill, she saw the end of a fast-moving robe whisk out of sight behind a pair of chatty witches.

"Wait! Stop!" Zola cried, hoping that even if the thief didn't stop, someone around her would have noticed and would now help her. Not seeing anyone else take action, she broke out into a run, dodging unaware witches and wizards as she tried to catch another glimpse of the man who'd stolen her year's allowance.

Seeing the feather girl stumble and suddenly whirl around. Kale picked up his pace in amusement, not wanting to lose sight of what he was sure would be an interesting encounter. Snorting in contempt as she pushed past a group of witches. All of whom had rather nasty comments to make at her back.

[[ ^_^ Thank you! ]]

Shaking her gray-black hair from her face, Isabella shot a look over her shoulder at her brother almost growling. "Val! Will you please, stop pestering those cats and hurry up! We still have to buy you a new cauldron since you blew up the last one." she sighed shaking her head as she turned wanting nothing more than to go back there and drag him on their way. She would have liked to but, with a handful of books being carefully balanced it wasn't exactly something she'd accomplish easily.

Valentine's glittering green-gold eyes darted to his sister and he groaned at that particular memory before hurrying after her. Grinning as he slipped in front of her, he could almost feel the holes being burned into the back of his head. Sisters...they were always so fussy. "Oh come on, Isa...we've got plenty of time...And besides it's your fault for not coming with Mom when she bought my books." he called over his shoulder hearing the string of quiet curses from behind him.

Kale rolled his steely eyes as the feather (..ehm, the girl) continued after her theif. He slowed his pace to a lazy stroll and finished off his chocolate scone. Licking a bit of icecream from the corner of his mouth, Kale popped the rest of his cone into his mouth. Chewing slowly he strolled into Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, knowing their trinkets would occupy some of his time. As he crossed through the entrance Kale passed a pair of bickering siblings.

She was seriously beginning to wonder if her brother was just daring or if he was out right stupid...the latter seemed rather unlikely. For a moment she was tempted to call him back and make him carry her books out of spite but noticed far too late that her brother had slipped into the rather infamous (or famous depending on how one saw it) Weasley's shop. Muttering under her brother she followed her brother making a mental note to strangle him later.

Valentine was aware of his sister's presence not too far behind him and he grinned. It was actually fun to torment, Isa until she was just about ready to scream and then treat her to something to keep her from returning the favor of what he'd been doing all day. Looking at all the various items on the shelves, he smiled. It was a wonder she hadn't complained about letting him come in here and about the chaos he was likely to cause if he bought anything from here.

((Hope you don't mind me joining! smile ))

Pulling her book list out of her back pocket, Beckett ran a finger down the sheet as she mentally checked off the books she'd already purchased, heedless of the melted icecream dripping off her spoon to splatter on the parchment. Having realized that she'd purchased all her books, Beck shoved the last bite of icrecream in her mouth, refolded the list, and tucked it back into the pocket of her jeans. With a sigh, she grabbed all of her packages and bags, left a small tip on the table, and walked out into the sunny street of Diagon Alley.

"Where to now?" she mused aloud, glancing both ways down the crowded street. Up and down the busy alley Beck saw the familiar faces of Hogwarts students, all purchasing supplies and things for the new term at school. Deciding that she would simply wander until a shop struck her fancy (and thoroughly enjoy the fact that her little sister wasn't tagging along this time), Beck turned right and headed down the street, nearly running into quite a few people as she walked.

After a while of mindless meandering, the bright store front of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes caught her eye and she grinned. Beck never failed to find something that eventually had her rolling with laughter in that crazy shop. Hoisting her bags farther up on her shoulder (pausing only to disentangle her long hair from one of the handles), she entered the shop and smiled at the array of colors, smells, and sounds that assaulted her senses.

{ i'm going to join in with you guys :] }
Romilda Zabini walked out of Gringotts,
carrying a beaded black purse heavy with galleons.
She flipped her dark hair, out of habit, and
tried to recall what was on her school list.
She knew there were numerous books she
would need and so she headed off towards
Flourish and Blotts, pushing her way through
the crowded street.

(Yay! The more the merrier!)

Zola slowed to a stop, trying to regain control over her breath and cursing her nose as it turned a dangerous shade of red - it happened every time she felt incredibly frustrated. She felt like crying - she had no money, no books, no one to help her, and her quill was now nudging her ear, impatient to continue writing. Annoyed, she grabbed the quill and threw it in her bag, ignoring the looks she was getting for her mussy appearance and still-red nose. She had to sit down, clear her head.

Taking a few breaths to try and calm down, she turned around and walked back to where she'd come from - it was her fault, she should've bought her books before going off to fiddle about with that stupid quill. She was always doing this - wandering off to pick sunflowers instead of watching dinner, resulting in a shrieking mother and burnt soup, or stopping to look at the Seine River while her father continued walking home, leaving her lost in Paris for an entire afternoon when she was six years old until her father found her chasing butterflies about a mile away from where she'd stopped.

Once again Zola came out of her own mind. I did it again! She thought despairingly. Why can't I pay attention to things? Promising herself she'd stop thinking if that's what was necessary, she looked around, finding herself in front of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, a joke shop she'd never entered before, always having emptied her pockets long since coming upon the store.

Telling herself she wasn't going to just distract herself, but rather find someone who could help her, she entered the store. She was immediately hit with the amount of commotion going on inside - things whirred, blinked, beeped, shouted, and blew up. Despite the rather impressive size of the shop, it seemed completely crammed with customers.

Surely someone here will know what I need to do, Zola thought hopefully.

Valentine's eyes danced as he looked up from the perfectly normal looking quill he'd been examining, his gold flecked green eyes shifting to rest on Zola. He recognized the girl from somewhere but he couldn't place it. Looking at his sister who'd taken to investigating the Pygmy Puffs, he snorted softly. What a surprise... was the first sarcastic thought that flitted through his mind. His sister found those puff balls cute. He didn't mind her buying one, though it would only be a matter of time before Alli or even Pepper took to chasing it.

Moving closer to where Zola was as he idly examined the stuff on display quietly pushing his shoulder length black hair from his face. His mother would be on his case to cut it again when he got home, he sighed a bit at the thought shaking his head. She'd charmed the scissors, the last time he'd let it grow like this. He was still trying to figure out why she was that intent on making sure he didn't let his hair grow out.

Isabella held back a giggle as she watched the array of Pygmy Puffs bounce around in front of her. They were absolutely adorable as far as she was concerned. She would have tried to pick one up if her hands hadn't been so full of books, which just sent her mind back to the fact that her brother had been more prepared this time than she had been.

Zola let go of the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. This place was fantastic! She could spend hours in here, just taking in everything. She was torn between trying to find someone to report the robbery to and looking closer at those strangely colored boxes - what were they? Oh! Zola laughed abruptly. She remembered seeing this box only last year, when a Slytherin in her double History of Magic class decided that throwing up for five minutes was worth getting out of the rest of the class. She smiled as she thought of the possibilities - how many times, in the five years she'd been at Hogwarts had she wanted a way to get out of a particularly boring class and go read in the sunny school grounds? She walked over and looked for a price on the box before remembering her predicament. Immediately her face fell - what was she doing? Her entire year's allowance had vanished and she was considering buying capsules that would make her vomit. Disgusted with herself she turned away from the merchandise, determined to find someone who could help her.

Absorbed in a box of brightly colored candies that seemed to be vibrating slightly, Beck barely registered the tingling bell announcing someone's arrival at the shop. Tearing her eyes away from the unusual sweets (and resisting the urge to touch them as they didn't seem all that safe), she turned around to see who had walked in, hoping that it might be one of her fellow 7th year Gyffindors. Beck's gaze drifted over the occupants of the crowded shop until it landed on an eccentric looking girl with black hair that had just entered the store. The girl looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place the name, only recalling that she was a sixth year Ravenclaw.

"Think Beck...what is her name?" Beckett murmured to herself, gesturing randomly with her hands as she sought the answer. Suddenly, a look of dawning comprehension spread across Beck's face as she snapped her fingers, remembering the younger girl's name. "Zola! Zola's her name. How in the world did I forget an unusual name like that?" She shook her head with a lopsided grin as she make her way over to the girl, intending to see how the girl's summer had gone. The younger Ravenclaw was always an interesting person to talk to.

"Hey, Zola," she said brightly, leaning against a shelf to the girl's right. Beck was about to ask after her well being and the state of her summer break when she noticed the girl's flushed complexion and agitated demeanor. A slight frown crossed Beck's features and she cocked her head to the side in a questioning manner. "Something wrong?" she asked, genuinely concerned. "You seem..." she gestured randomly as she searched for the word she wanted finally settling on "...out of sorts."

Zola looked up at the brightly haired girl who was smiling uncertainly at her. Oh dear, she couldn't possibly remember names now, although she had certainly seen that shock of red-orange around Howgarts before.

"Oh, um, hi," Zola replied, grinning slightly. "Um, well I'm doing alright. Had a bit of a run-in back in the street, someone took the bag I had all my money in..." Zola felt her nose redden anew at the memory of it. She must think I'm an absolute idiot Zola thought irritatedly. And she noticed something was wrong, I wonder just how bad I look, I may as well just go back home-

"Beck!" She said loudly, having just remembered the name. She blushed at the exclamation, inwardly cursing herself. Something was seriously wrong with her; this whole day had been one huge mess.
