Riley really wasn't upset about having her arm broken. No, that was no big deal. What she couldn't stand was the limitations all the adults insisted on putting on her due to said broken arm. It made her want to break something. The restless sparrow-child could only be kept cooped up in the house for so long before something bad happened. So Victor had decided to take her to the park. Much to the girl's dismay, however, he seemed bent on keeping an eye on her and he had specifically said no running around. And as all of the Ta'rish'e knew, Victor's word was law.

So she wandered about woefully, stretching her legs and moving around all the trees and bushes. Often she'd look to see if Victor wasn't looking or if he couldn't see her, but that was never the case. Fah, seemed she was stuck walking around unless she could find something more interesting to do that didn't involve moving recklessly around. That didn't seem likely.

Devakanya was curled up under a tree, flipping through her latest picture book. She'd read it a hundred times already, and she was getting a little bored of it. (How many princess stories could one girl read, honestly?) She sighed, putting it on the roots next to her and stood, brushing her lavender dress off. She needed something to do.

Glancing up, the young unicorn noted Zack was sound asleep somewhere up in the tree. Again. Why did Zack always go to sleep whenever he took her to the park? Oh well. At least she could wander off. Maybe Harper was around somewhere. Harper was fun to play with. After wandering around a little, she noticed someone else her age. Well, it wasn't Harper...but they looked familar.

...that was Riley! Devakanya blinked, chewing on her lower lip. If she recalled correctly, Riley played scary games...

Riley sighed, coming to a stop by a flowerbed filled with tulips. She frowned, feeling an itch on her arm. Her arm under her cast. "Uhhhh!" she groaned, rubbing her hand on the hard surface as if it would somehow make the itching underneath go away. She looked around for something, anything to distract herself with...else she'd be standing her groaning about her dumb cast and the misery it brought all day.

Hey...what was that blue over there...? Her feathered ears lifted slightly as she squinted her silver eyes to see better. Oh! She remembered that girl, if vaguely. Though she hadn't talked the last time they had met, which was ages ago, or so it seemed. Riley moved over to meet her at a light, slow job barely above a walk. Victor had said no running.

"Hey! Devakanya right?" she asked curiously.

Oh dear. Sparrow girl had noticed her. Hopefully, she wouldn't be so inclined to try and kill her this time. (What was it with other children and trying to kill her the first time they met?) She nodded slowly, yes, that was her name. And she was Riley, she knew that, even if she couldn't say so. And then something caught her eye.

She pointed to Riley's cast, tipping her head sideways in a curious way. Was that a cast? That meant she was hurt! The young girl frowned, immediately concerned -even if Riley did scare her a little- and tossed her head again. What happened? Should she be out playing?

So she still didn't talk hu? Not that Riley minded. To each their own. She blinked and looked at where they other girl had pointed. "Ohh....yeah, Mikael nailed me real good playing football. So it's broken," she said, sounding as if it really wasn't a big deal. Which it wasn't compared to what came with it. "This is the first time they've let me out in a while...won't let me run or anything though," she finished, now frowning a little.

She was sick of thinking about it though. "What about you? How've ya been since I last saw you?" she asked, struggling to get rid of her miserable look. She knew Devakanya couldn't talk but...a smile and a nod or whatever would probably explain it well enough. Maybe.

Mikael? Devakanya could only assume that was one of her brothers. There seemed to be a lot of those. But what kind of brother broke his sister's arm? Osha would never do that to her. It just wasn't nice! All the girl could do was nod, letting Riley know she did actually understand what she was saying. Staying still tended to annoy people. But boy, Riley's life seemed even more boring than her picture book.

She shrugged and nodded. She'd been pretty good. Harper tried to kill her once, but now he was her friend. She pointed up to Zack...or, at least, his tree. She then shut her eyes and put her head on her hands as if she were sleeping. Zack was always sleeping. She took Riley by the arm, the good arm, and led her over to said tree so she could point Zack out. She then pointed to her picture book and sighed. That's all she got to do when Zack slept.

Riley let Devi lead her away. It wasn't as if she had anything better to do anyway. Besides, she was genuinely trying to understand what the unicorn girl had to "say". After much pointing and hand motions she thought she got the jist of it. "Aww, so he just sleeps and leaves you all by yourself? That's no fun," she said sympathetically. She knew the feeling...sometimes. While Mikael and Runeh were fun at times, other moments they ignored her too busy with their own plots. And Liam wasn't a big "player" either. Most of her time with him was spent in study.

"I know, why don't we play something? I mean...you're stuck being bored 'cause of your sleeping dad and I'm stuck being bored 'cause I can't run wild like normal. Whatdda think?" she asked, smiling suddenly as if it was simply a brilliant idea.

Ah, someone who understood her! It was so amazing, Devi could probably forgive Riley for trying to kill her way back when right away! She flashed Riley a grin, so thrilled she'd probably agree to anything at this point. Someone understood her, someone understood her! She could dance with glee! Even Zack didn't catch on that quickly, and she lived with him.

The unicorn nodded eagerly. Playing would be fun (as long as it wasn't tag) and...Riley understood her. So Riley could have anything she wanted. She tipped her head to the side, pointing to Riley and shrugging again. What would she like to play? She was the one with the broken arm. Devi didn't know what she was and wasn't allowed to play.

Riley grinned, pleased that the other girl was as excited as she. Finally something fun! She was completely oblivious to the other's girl's amazement (she thought Devi was simply happy to be doing something). It was funny how she could pick up on one thing and completely ignore the other. Well, that was Riley for you. "Hmm? What do I want to do? Well we can't do most of what I'd normally pick but...hey! How 'bout hide and seek? I bet you'd be really good at it. I always loose when I try to play it with my brothers but...it's fun," she suggested thoughtfully. And then Victor couldn't say she was abusing her arm. Yeah.

Ah, Riley understood her again! This was simply amazing, a real miracle! She calmed herself down, listening to Riley and cocking her head. Well, she wasn't quite sure about hide and seek...but at least it wasn't tag. The sparrow go wasn't allowed to run, either, so she didn't have to worry about trying to move quickly in her dress (which she refused to ruin for the sake of fun, by the way). She nodded slowly, pointing to Riley again before waving her off. She could hide first.

She turned to the tree to hide her eyes and began to count to a hundred. It never occurred to her Riley would not be able to hear the numbers as her time whittled away.

Riley didn't waste any time hanging around. Though she wasn't allowed to run, she did...walk away very quickly. Now....where to hide? This was always a game she struggled with, not being a very quiet individual. She circled around a bit of the park and finally found a very large bush. She ducked under its branches, letting out small gasps of "Ouch!" every time a branch poked her. Then she settled down awkwardly to wait.

Devakanya's large ears twitched at every noise the girl made. Being of an equine nature, she needed to be able to hear even the smallest of noises in case it was a predator, or, if she lived in the wild, that was. She made it to one hundred and pulled away from the tree, blinking and rubbing her eyes at the sunlight. Well, now she should go find Riley. Her ears twitched again. If she recalled correctly, the noises were coming from the bushes.

Hoping it was Riley she heard and not some savage animal, Devakanya made her way to the bushes and timidly began poking through the bushes one by one, careful to keep her dress from snagging on the scraggly branches. She peered into the center of each bush, one eye closed to keep her from seeing anything she didn't want to see. Please, please don't let it be a big scary animal.

Riley too had hightened senses. However, she was far too impulsive and reckless to use them. Figures, didn't it? She didn't hear Devi come near at all. Shifting her footing due to discomfort she managed to poke herself right in the bum. "OUCH!" she hissed all too loudly, which would make it really easy for Devi to find her now. And Devi hadn't been far from her to begin with.

[[Ack. Sorry. Forgot this was here.]]

Both ears flicked forward when Devi heard a voice. Yes, that was definitely someone, a female someone. It must be Riley! Pleased, the unicorn trotted down a few bushes, stopping at the one she was sure had the voice. She pulled away a few branches and poked her head in, smiling when she was sure she found Riley. Now it was her turn to hide.

She stepped back to give Riley room to step out when another sound caught her attention. Ears flicking back, she turned her head in the direction she thought the small, cheeping noise was coming from. She blinked and turned to Riley, tipping her head to the side as her ears flicked again. Did Riley hear it too?

When the leaves near her moved Riley tried to stay still. But Devi found her easily and seeing that she let herself flop back onto her bum, since staying crouched had been a bit hard. "Ahhh, you found me!" she grumbled good naturedly before standing up and brushing the leaves off her bum and plucking them from her tail feathers. Finally turning to see Devi looking at her she paused, "Wha?"
