The Walmarket was huge. There was a food section to the right, and an appliance/clothes/everything else section to the left. It was cheap, too, which was the most important part. Shade looked around blankly for a long moment before glancing at his son. "This is how we celebrate my first real gaia paycheck?"

"You ate all of Jack's sandwich stuff, remember?" Antony said seriously.

"Oh, right," Shade said as he went back to looking around. "Let's go check out the electronics!"

Alex, less than enthusiastic, trundled in with a shopping basket clinging to his arm. He swung it back and forth, whilst something lightly bumped against the sides as he did so. Upon further inspection, it appeared to be some sort of green plant, and upon even further inspection - turned out just to be just a cabbage.

He sailed the aisle of books, tilting his head at odd new titles and releases. Scanning the science rail of books as he strode on, eager to finish the shop as painlessly and quickly as possible.

"Right, let me see, what do I need..." He held a list up to his dark, police-like sunglasses, and peered. "Milk, cheese, butter, bread, soup... batteries."

He looked to the left, the electronics aisle just a row down from where he was standing.

"Batteries." He decided, swishing on his heels.

Sable hurried into the shop, muttering to himself under his breath. He'd left his cabbage at home under the not-so-watchful eyes of Rook. He just needed to grab a few things and hurry home before the delinquent decided to up and leave, letting Leviathan roast in the sun. He paced down the aisle, pausing to snag a bottle of shampoo and toss it in the basket before continuing on his way.

Now, let's see. That left...towels, milk, pancake mix and Lysol. Oh, he had promised the boys a new video game for watching the cabbage all week, hadn't he? He'd best go get that before he forgot. Navigating his way to the electronics aisle, he began to search for the title Saint had requested.

Never good at paying attention to anything other than what he was working on, the young lab assistant walked right into someone else strolling down the aisle. Startled, he jumped back. "Sorry, I'm so sorry," he began mumbling, trying to observe if the other person was okay.

Shade headed down the aisle with the games, ignoring his son's irritation. Antony always had been one to get in, get it, and get out. Shade, on the other hand, had nothing but time. He headed down the games aisle, wondering if he should get a console with his money, not even noticing the other two males there.

"Look at this, Tony, you can raise monsters and make them fight each other in this one!" he said as he picked up a box.

"It sounds fascinating," Antony drolled.

"Maybe I should teach you special attacks."

The cabbage rolled forward with a loud thump as Sable bumped in against Alex. He cursed loudly, shoving the bumper away with a brisk arm action, and gently stroked the cabbage with his palm, easing it before returning to cruise the aisle. Having almost completely ignored the incident, he decided to make nothing more of it - but to just avoid the guy at all costs. Oh how he loved the joys of shopping!

He motioned on to the batteries rail, and pulled down a packet, snapping it off the railing with a loud crack and putting it aside the cabbage into his basket.

"What else..." He mumbled angrily between clenched teeth, dark strands of hair falling over dark, wide sunglasses which covered the good top half of his face.

"Milk, oh, coffee!" He spun on his heels again.

...ooookay. Sable could only blink and stare, stumbling when he was pushed. It wasn't like he meant to crash into the stranger! He blinked again, adjusting his glasses and pushing them back up his nose before tilting his head. "Sorry," he mumbled again, guilt already gnawing at his guts. He hadn't hurt his cabbage, had he? (Juno had practically disassembled his own, so he could only assume a simple bounce on the floor wouldn't harm it. His own, however...)

The black-haired man bit his lip and turned, continuing to mumble apologies as he began to search the rack once more for Saint's game. Hmm. It didn't appear to be here. Well, he had to pick something or the boys would never watch the cabbage (or the boy that emerged from the cabbage) again.

"...how the hell am I supposed to know what video games teenage boys play?" he wailed pitifully.

Shade cocked his head, having caught the little run-in. He hadn't known that humans were so touchy. A bump was annoying, but nothing to get-- "Hey!" he said abruptly, chasing after the man with the cabbage in the bag. "Is that one of those cabbages with the children in them?"

Antony moved to look at the games, curious in spite of himself. He glanced up as the man asked about teenage boys. He wasn't a teenager yet, but it would only be polite to try and help. "You have kids?" he asked curiously, a sweet, helpful smile on his face.

Alex stopped, and turned slowly. "A cabbage child, you ask? Perhaps." He pretended to look at something beside him, a stereo as it turned out; fiddling with the knobs and dials, he tried to appear as fascinated, and distracted as possible.

"What of it?" He asked, cautiously, if not, casually. "I don't have kids, no. My partner has an abundance of them though, and they are clogging up the whole house." Sighing lightly, the man removed his big black sunglasses for the moment, and slid them away into his messenger bag.

Sable blinked, glancing over his shoulder before looking back down at the boy. He was talking to him...right? "Erm...s-sorta," he replied with a shrug, pushing his glasses back up his nose. "...I w-wouldn't exact-tly c-call Rook and Saint k-kids. M-more like...ch-harges." They had been artificially created, after all, and neither functioned like a human being.

"...they a-asked I-I b-br-ring them h-home a n-new game." He sighed. He had no idea what to get. Bringing home the wrong game was as bad as bringing home no game at all. He could always bring Saint a new coloring book, but he really did need to bring something home for Rook. "...do y-you know w-what t-teena-age b-boys l-like?"

"Do you know anything about the games they already have?" Antony asked. He figured games were like cartoons. People liked ones that were a lot like the ones they had already seen.

"See that kid?" Shade asked, pointing at Antony. He didn't seem bothered in the least by the fact his son was talking to a stranger. "He came from a cabbage. He goes to school with other kids that came from cabbages. Here," he said, digging out his wallet and pulling the school's card out and holding it out to Alex. "For when it's born."

"I see," Alex peered at Antony. "He doesn't look entirely," lowering his tone, he continued speaking to Shade; "cabbagey..." He was somewhat perplexed by the whole concept.

"How can you be entirely sure that this thing?" He held the cabbage in his hand, and shoved it forward. "Will evolve, or whatever?"

He had an hunch they were telling the truth, but that was only scientific intuition kicking in. He was skeptical, and had known of it's mysterious properties ever since the day it had landed on his doorstep.

Oh, he knew that! Sable nodded eagerly. "A-all R-Rook ev-ver p-plays has s-stuff dy-ying and...w-war games." Rook was a very violent Nobody. "H-He likes challenging g-games." He shrugged. Getting something that 'insulted' Rook would be bad. The youth had a wrath to be reckoned with. No one at his old lab ever messed with Rook when he was in the mood.

"...hey, are you one of those cabbage kids?" He looked like a normal kid, but he could have sworn he just overheard the man that came in with the boy say something like that to the man he'd bumped in to. If he was, maybe there was hope for Leviathan yet!

"Yes," Antony said with a little smile. "I am. But if he likes war games, don't you think you should get him something like that?" War games. Greeeeat, the kid must be a mastermind. Not. Of course he didn't let that thought show on his smiling face.

"Well, that's what happened with Antony," Shade said. "And of all the kids I've met, none of them look... ah... cabbagey. Well, except Delilah. And I'm the school coach. But you don't have to believe me. You're the one with the cabbage."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 03, 2007 10:37 am

Peering at the cabbage with a scrunched up nose, Alex decided to remain skeptical for now; it just couldn't be entirely probable, it didn't mathematically equate. It wasn't possible!

Picking another packet of batteries off the shelf for good measure he turned gratefully, to face Shade in more of a polite manner.

"So there's a...er... place...for cabbages? ...Eh, people with cabbages?"

Phew. What a relief. Leviathan did have a chance of being...normal. Unless, of course, whatever Juno did to him ruined him. Why on earth did he let Juno see the poor little cabbage? Poor, defenseless cabbage. It didn't deserve whatever that b*****d had done to him.

"...w-well, I s-supp-pose," he agreed, shrugging. Can't go wrong with something the youth definitely liked. He sighed. "C-can't say I-I app-preciate them m-much. I-I th-think he j-just likes t-the fight-ting parts. But, I-I d-don't know a th-thing a-about video g-games." He glanced at the case and found a game with a medieval looking cover. "...d-do you th-think that w-would w-work?"
