~Saying Goodbye & Leaving Hawaii~ Kanita put on a brave face before pulling out of her friends' group hug. All their faces were still flushed from sailing, her going away party. Most looked as if they were about to get a tooth pulled, they looked so grim. Her two best friends managed weak smiles.
"You guys, don't tell me I have to go through this every year!! I'll be back for a month next summer, like every summer." Kanita tried to remind them that she wasn't leaving forever. But this small fact was difficult for even her to smile for.
"But Kani..." she couldn't make out what was said, all of them were talking to her at once, but she had a good idea. Every summer, for a month, her family took a vacation to their summer home in Hawaii. It was the only hightlight of leaving Hogwarts, too see all her old friends agian. But the seemingly endless days and adventures always ended too soon. "Nita!! Honey, hurry up. The plane will leave without us!" Kani cringed at her mother's baby name for her. Flashing a smile at her mom, she begged with her eyes for another few moments. Sighing, her mother nodded. "..not too bad if you get left behind." Kanita heard her friends mumble and couldn't help but laugh. When her laughter continued to chime, she finally managed to get smiles out of her friends.
"I will miss you all, and I will write. That's a promise!" Ending on a happier note with them, she was pulled into another group hug. This one tighter and lasting so long, Nisa Doyle finally had to rush over and snatch her away.
"SO LONG!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!" Kani shouted over her shoulder, pushing her long hair out of her face. Then they were running to the plane, her friends' shouts of 'so long' and 'dont forget us' pouring over her like a warm breeze on a chilly night.

~AFTER THE FLIGHT, and ARRIVING HOME~ A delicious dinner sat on the table. Complete with Chicken Pomodoro, French onion crisp soup, French baggetes, and an apple crumble for dessert. Kanita's favorite. But instead of being able to quell the rumbling of her hunger, Kani sat there in torture, as the sweet scents wafted through the air. It wasn't her mothers' fault that the earthquake in her stomach was nearing volcanic, but the sisters. Both of them.
Finally there was a familiar jingle. The keys in the rusty lock. Kani and her mother sighed at the same time and caught each others eye. Smiles slipped onto their faces before they quickly glanced away. Her wonderfully forgetful, disorganized dad has yet to change that blasted lock. But of course no one really minded. It was part of the house as much as the family was.
"So sorry, I really am. My desk was stacked! Sky high I tell ya, and I'm not even exaggerating! Sky high! How there are still trees on this planet I've no idea...I mean the amount of paper just for reports!" Sara snorts and pulls the chair out, flopping clumsily on it. Then she continues babbling on about some creature that is purple and spotted pink that just wont stop stealing peoples left socks...so sure she made this up, Kani voices her thoughts, but her sister just shakes her head as if thinking 'what an ignorant child.' "Have you even read page 5 of The Quibbler this week?!" she asks, as if this alone proves her point, which for Kani...did just the opposite. Then Sara loads food onto her plate, managing to eat and continue her spew.
"Hey! Don't eat, Jane isn't here yet," But Sara doesn't hear, as she and father are now deep in discussion about the Sand Man's refusal to work until he gets a raise. Shrugging, Kani shovels the most delish pasta into her mouth. And swears her tongue is dancing the macarana, it's so good.
"NITA!! What did I say about eating yet!" Nisa scolds. Feeling cheated as Kani looks pointedly at Sara, who has sauce sitting on her chin. Instead of arguing Kani sneaks another slice of Heaven into her mouth just as Jane strides in, also apologizing for being late.
"You will not believe the day we had at Gringotts! First.." And now everyone is here and chatter fills the dinning room. Mother and Jane talking Numbers and Names, Father and Sara sharing the latest on creatures, and Salvator...THAT SNEAKY BUGGER! How'd he get that slice of apple crumbly. Kani gives her brother a swift kick under the table and makes a quick dive with her fork for a piece. This starting a silent battle.
Before long the night wares out and the sisters are hugging good bye. Heading back to their own flats. Salvator has long since snuck out back for a go on his broom while Mimmy is busy tidying the table. Kani sweeps some of the dirty dishes up and follows Mimmy to the sink, ignoring her lecture that as she is the house elf, it is her job. Then swiftly kissing the top of Mimmy's large elfish head before heading off to bed. As she passes her mother and father cuddled on the couch, she reminds them...
"Tomorrow is the trip to Diagon Alley."

~Enter The Leaky Cauldron~ Shoved rather brutally through the Leaky Cauldron doors, Kanita scowls at the 3 goblins who barged past her. Smoothing out her abused clothes and lifting her hair up, Kanita tries to catch a breeze on her now exposed neck and shoulders. Then abruptly drops her arm, allowing her long locks to drap back down. Quickly Kanita makes her way past the leering man who raised goose bumps from beneath her suntanned skin.
"HEY!" Kanita calls, spotting the blue hair of a fellow Ravenclaw and close friend. She continues toward Autumn Darkwind, dragging her armload of bags with her. A single bead of sweat rolled down her neck and disappeared into her pale yellow sundress. "Mind if I join you Autumn?"

Stroking the shaft of her shiny new broom, Autumn took a sip of the Butterbeer sitting on the table in front of her. She loved shopping for her supplies, and a good sit and read at the Leaky Cauldron had become tradition for her. Leaning over and groping through her bag, her hand met the spine of A History of Magic: 1500AD-Modern Times. She pulled it out and began to get a head start on her studies.
Barely before she could get a good thirty pages in, she looked up to see a small ruckus erupting from a nearby table. Three rowdy goblins had been arguing about something trivial, and had been asked to leave the pub. Her eyes followed them out, even as they bumped into an incoming customer. She looked rather cross with the three, but didn't make an effort to start a scene. With a completely changed expression, the girl looked at Autumn and started heading to her table. Wait...isn't that...?
"Kanita!" Autumn squealed. She got up from her table and gave her a bone cracking hug, though stopping at the sight of seveal bags in the girl's hands. She didn't want her to tip over. "I don't mind at all, sit down, sit down. How was Hawaii?"

A wide grin spread up to Kanita's eyes as she sat down next to Autumn. Kanita rolled her shoulders to lossen the tension of carrying her school supplies, and gratefully set them down under the slightly grimy table. Then she turned back to her long time friend and quidditch teammate.
"Hawaii was beautiful!" she exclaimed cheerfully and then added under her breath to Autumn with a devlish smile, "specially the guys. Oh Autumn I wish you could've gone with me! My friends would have loved you. How did you get along this summer? Keep up with your quidditch skills right? I'm so thrilled you made captain. Well deserved hun, well deserved!"
Kanita always had this problem when she was around Autumn. She always wanted to spill everything as fast as possible and then have the favor returned so that they stayed up-to-date in eachothers lives. Writing letters over the summer was barely satisfactory. If there was anyone from Hogwarts that she missed it was confident, collected Autumn who never turned down an adventure to pursue with Kanita. Between all her Hogwarts pals, Autumn knew how to keep a secret and could keep up with Kani herself.

Kairi walked slowly into the Leaky Cauldron. She zig-zagged through the crowd, eventually finding an empty table. She sat down, ordered a butterbeer, and took out her book list.
"I'll have to go to Gringotts... these books are always pricey.."

In the midst of Kani and Autumn's excited greeting, Kani hears a low, familiar voice coming from a near table. "..quite expensive..." Turning toward the young Kairi, she smiles warmly. Her first encounter with the timid girl was an experience quite unlike any other. Kairi, in which Kani dubbed Riri, brought out her protective side. Waving Riri over to join them before turning back to Autumn, Kani contemplates what drink she'll order to quench her thirst.

Kairi looked up and saw her friend Kani, whom she met the previous year and whom she had taken an imidiate liking to. Kairi smiled, got her bag, list, and butterbeer, and sat down with her friend.
"Hey! Long time no see! Did your summer go well?"
She noticed the other girl with them.
"Hi, my name is Myana, Kairi Myana" Kairi put her hand out and shook Kanita's other friend's hand.
"Are you lot about to go to Diagon Alley?

"Oh sorry, how rude of me. Autumn dear this is Kairi. I think I may have mentioned her to you before. I first met her when she was pushed through the Bloody Baron. She got quite a scare. 3nodding Well anyways, Autumn this is Riri and she's a 4th year of our house. Kairi this is one of my best mates, Autumn. She's in my year." Ever excited that she keep running into friends, Kani decided on a butterbeer, as Autumns looked quite tasty at the moment.
Taking huge gulps of the warm liquid, Kani downed her beverage. A small trickle managed to escape and slid down the side of her cheek. Discretely whipping her mouth with the back of her hand, Kani glanced quickly at Autumn to make sure she didn't witness her...slip of manners.

Kairi smiled at Autumn. At the mention of the... incident with the Bloody Baron, Kairi turned pink.
"That.. wasn't fun... I'm not even sure who did it, though I noticed someone had a few more pimples on their face the next day..."
Kairi started to go off into past memories, thinking of the last day of classes last year with the Slytherins and the unknown Gryffindor, then came back with a shake of the head.
"Well, are you guys excited about the upcoming year?"

Kanita caught Autumn's eye, in which her own held mischief. Kani arched one eyebrow perfectly as if to say, 'We'll make this one and interesting year.'
"Oh, yes. This year, I'm hoping, holds much promise." Kani smiled swift and secretive. Pushing her now empty mug away from her, she leans back in her rough wooden chair. Satisfied, Kani folds her hand neatly atop her trim stomach.

Autumn giggled slightly at the story of Kairi and the Bloody Baron. She could only imagine what that could've been like, but she still remained incapable of stifling a small chuckle. Luckily for her, or so she thought, Kairi had failed to notice the intent of the giggle, and instead asked the pair about their feeling towards the school term so shortly approaching.
She caught Kani's gesture and laughed audibly this time. "This will definately be a year filled with promise, Kani. Isn't every year? All the new first years to trick greet. Not to mention our new quidditch members." She gave her friend a little nudge on the shoulder and smiled. "I heard Oliver was trying out for the team this year." She motioned to the waitress for a second butterbeer.
Autumn's attention was immediately redirected when she remembered what she'd bought just hours earlier. "Kani, I almost forgot!" She grabbed her gleaming Vulcanus and propped it on the table. "Look what I finally saved up and bought!"
