Ok, so I was browsing the GD and I came across a forum headlined "Haunted Paintings," and being curious I decided to check it out. Some girl was searching for a painting posted a while back in the GD and someone finally recovered it. Here it is: LUZnaturally hehehe Now if you have seen this before, then I'm sorry. I know that no one likes a million different posts on the same subject. But here's the difference: The story goes that a Korean girl drew this image before she committed suicide and created many copies of it as well. Supposedly, if you stare at the picture for a certain amount of time (the average answer to the question of how long which I can come across is 5 minutes), the picture is supposed to change. The girl is supposed to become deranged or mad, like this: Also, it is said that people who stare at it long enough either go mad or wind up committing suicide themselves. However, upon doing some research, I found that a photoshop artist named Robert Chang was posting this exact picture (the first image, i.e.), better known as the "Melancholy Princess" and claiming it as his own. Browsing through the comments his fans have left him, it's obvious that no one seems to recognize this picture as anyone elses but his own. So now the question is, who's picture is it? What's the real story? People claim that they do see the calm face become deranged after watching it for some time (hence where I got the second image; some guy reproduced and photoshopped it sweatdrop ). But who knows? Does anyone have any information on this piece?

This is a very interesting case. Painting do capture the feeling of the painters so haunted painting are not uncommon. And I'll admit if you stare at it long enough the area around the eyes look like they are getting darker and her smile does seem to become smaller. But the problem I find with this is it looks like a phote that had been edited on photoshop to look like a painting or a very good digital painting. The hairs are too finally detailed, there is no way to get someone hair to look like that through using paints, I know I'm an artist myself. Edit- I looked up the artist and found this site with his work on it. http://lunatique.cgsociety.org/gallery/325333/

I took into consideration those same aspects about the quality of the portrait as well. I'm artist as well, and I know that I too have difficulty creating hair that finely detailed. However, I have seen some of my peers come very close to having works that are photograph worthy (i.e. finely detailed) as is this. That and the fact that another artist (Robert Chang) is claiming it is his, is throwing me off. However, I'd still like to get further information on the topic and see if I can find any other sites that may give further indication as the original wherabouts of this work.
Thank you for posting, btw. 3nodding Please, if anyone else is interested in the topic or has anything to share, post! Give your say. I'm interested to hear more. whee

I stared at the painting for few minute and I have to say that I was starting to get kinda creeped out. At the same time, I'm not sure if I can take it so seriously because it does look like it was made using a program like Photoshop.
It's fascinating though. I do believe that some objects may hold a certain kind of energy.

I stared at the (first) picture for quite a long time. The picture did change, but it didn't change into the bottom picture. It was more like an old hag with graying hair sort of. I can't really describe it...

The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being, if you never love a horse, you'll never understand.
I'm gonna agree with people and say that it does look more photoshopped or something then a real painting. It'd be interesting to find more information on this 3nodding
You deffinately get this creepy feeling from it. Least it's creepy for me because it brings back feelings I've had way too many times and I was happy and normal till I stared at that for a minute. That was before I even looked at the words you posted I have this tendency to stare at pictures and take it all in before reading what's written.
A horse is an angel without wings

The phenomenon at play here is probably not paranormal at all. In fact, I remember coming across a demonstration illustrating this technique to produce a creepy graphic. I assume that everyone is familiar with facial recognition? If not, the gist is, everyone has a universal set of parameters built into their minds, that recognize the most basic facial features. If we view a face that has upturned corners of the mouth, raised lower eyelids, and a relaxed forehead, our brain picks up on this, and we think that that person is happy.
There are innumerable emotion cues relating to the face, most which our conscious mind never actually acknowledge. What registers in our conscious, though, is the feeling or emotion we associate with that set of cues. Hence the spooky feeling you get when you view the above picture.
The image you see is actually two, in a sense; one superimposed directly over the other, and of the same girl(obviously) You're seeing a happy girl, yeah, but the secondary face to it is an image of the same girl, just creepy looking, but blended into the original face enough to register in our minds as unsettling, yet hidden enough to not be perceivable as a completely different face. That is, until you stare at it for a while, heh.
The backstory involving the girl, sounds...fishy to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the story is just an urban legend.

Heh, actually the picture seemed very pretty to me, I didn´t feel anything scary at all. But then again, I´m kind of lethargetic and depressed nowadays, and not as much sensitive. I stared at it for about a minute or two, maybe three ...
It kind of reminded me of..me...hehe, I´ve got similar face...at least a little bit..although mine is broader..
But I did get a strange sensation in my head...
Oh and the second picture, i´ve noticed, after some time when you scroll above it, changes back into the cute one, and if you scroll down again, back into the freaky one.
