Do you feel that dreams are just your mind spewing out randomness, or are they meaningful and important to you?
I've always felt that my dreams were important. I can do some dream interpretation, and I often have important conversations in my dreams with people who have gone on, or are significant in my life. For example, I used to have a best friend who was like my sister. She has recently changed almost beyond being recognizable and refuses to speak to me anymore, but she is my constant companion in my dreams. She tells me important things about myself, and talks with me about random things as we often once did. I think that maybe the part of her spirit that was my friend remembers me and stays with me like she was supposed to.
So discuss
Dreams:
how they affect us
dreams you've had
dreams you want interpreted
interpret other's dreams
anything dream related

I almost never dream, or at least never have any that i remember. But there is one in particular that I still remember very well.
My dream: (don't know how else to start it)
I was outside sweeping the front porch when I heard these loud voices of two men walking down the street. For some reason the hair on the back of my neck rose (or however the phrase goes) and I ducked down behind the bushes in my front yard. I watched the two men walk by, my heart pulsing madly in my chest. The moment they had past my house, their backs to me, I snuck back inside as quietly as possible. I then went to the dinning room and watched them behind the window shades. They turned and began to head back to my house, their steps hurried. I ran and got my mom, little brother, and dogs into the basement (that doesn't exist in real life). I had them hide behind some boxes, and leashed my dogs near my mom. I then pulled out a shotgun and positioned myself diagonally from my door. The door opened and the men walked in, rifles in hand. I shot them both in the knees. The police came and took the men away. I was really freacked out about what happened and decided that I needed a guy friend with me. I then grabed the phone and started to call my ex-boyfriend (I broke up with him due to my own issues and had dropped contact with him) my conciousness then kicked in and I (awake me not dream me) wondered what the hell I was doing calling him. He lived half an hour away and I hadn't talked to him in over a month. (this dream took place during summer break. he and I sat at the same lunch table during school) I then took control of my dream and called a guy friend who lived 3 minutes away walking-time, telling him what happened and that I needed a guy friend just then.

I woke up after this, still shaken cause the dream was freakishly real, and then thought about what it meant. I had dropped contact with my ex because I just didn't want to risk going out again and then dumping him again if I ran into more of my own issues. And I was having 'what if' thoughts about the friend I made my dream self call after dream me tried to call le ex. After several minutes of pondering, I decided my subconciousness was trying to tell me to get back in touch with my ex. I called him the next day, started talking with him daily once more and we now have been happily dating again for almost a year. Feels kind of weird posting the dream because I've never even told him about it. (Now I can't invite him to the guild, biggrin )
So...think I got the meaning of the dream right?

dreams are the minds way of keeping busy while we sleep and the body recouperates and restores it's energy and dreams can be a variety of different things. I've had dreams that told me of things yet to come, I've had dreams that merely reflect whatever fears or concerns I might have... granted they reflected them in weird nonsensical ways..usually using some kind of symbolism.. I've had dreams reflecting strong desires I might be having... for instance the first time I ever stopped smoking cigs (was about 4 years ago and I'd been smoking since I was 14) for many months I'd dream of smoking cigarettes. I've had dreams that informed me I'd be hearing from someone I hadnt heard from in a long time and a day or so later I would..

But by far, the *craziest* dream I've ever had was when I was younger and my best friend was sleeping over. we woke in the morning and both had had the strangest dream.. so I started telling her mine.. and crazy enough, she finished it! we had the *same* dream! in the dream we were in a car and got dropped off at some weird haunted looking masion kinda like the adams family house.. and small green guy with a lightbulb shaped head let us in, and then started trying to kill us... there was a blob monster chasing us and we went thru this one door to find an indoor rollercoaster.. so we get on in an attempt to escape. when the ride got going, all sorts of weapons were being shot at us.. from bullets, arrows, daggers, poison darts... you name it.. we went up the highest dip on the rollercoaster and at the tippy top and arrow was shot at us from behind... when the ride finally stopped my friend was dead -the arrow hit her in the back.. and next thing you know I'm walking home at night alone. In her version, I'm the one that died and she walked home alone.

freaky huh?

Wow, I have yet to have an experience such as that. I'm impressed

I've flown a few times in my dreams, but I don't do it a lot at all.
I think dreams can be both clumps of randomness and meaningful interpretations. I think dreams are, most of the time, visual reflections of what's meaningful and important to us, but I also think that it could be our minds' way of sorting things out.
I've had dreams of the most trivial things that I'd hardly ever thought of or considered important, and vice versa; that's why I think a dream can have more than one meaning.

absolutely. it's the mind giving itself something to do while we recuperate. it's also when the subconscious can surface the easiest, because logic and reason are suspended.

My dreams vary, yet this one was really odd, you see I'm looking through my window which I happen to see someone staring back at me but I can't get a good look until they appear closer and I can't believe my eyes I'm staring at me who has a knife, I still don't get that dream, it's so weird.
Then some dreams I'm dancing on the moon and floating around the galaxy.
I think some dreams might mean something and some don't.

Some dreams, as they may be, were visions for myself, as seeing something twice for the first time is odd enough, such as a room high above the ground, looking upon a book of science, remembing I had done the same thing before, yet never having done it. Perhaps I am part Oracle, yet upon not having progressed to such a form, only partial, understanding much of life, yet unable to express it?

Wow, some freaky dream stuff on here, lol. People have said on here that dreams can mean different things for different people, and dreams can definitely say a lot about the subconscious, even the nonsensical ones. They let us know just how insane they are under all that reasoning and whatnot. pirate
But really, I think dreams can say something about the mind of the person. I don't know about the dreams showing upcoming events or being related to anything paranormal though. I miss my dreams from when I was younger though. You know whenever you're being chased, all you can really do is run or hide, it's just natural in a dream, but when ever I was facing something, if I was given a second to stop and think, I would go and blast my opponents with super awesome cool magic or something. xd
But lately I haven't been able to do that. I turn and try to do something, but nothing happens. No fire, magic, attacks, nothing. I'm worried about what that might mean.

sounds to me like lucid dreaming. lucid dreaming is when in your dream you become *aware* that you are dreaming, and with that knowledge you can control what happens. there is a process to learning how to dream lucidly and it can take a lot of practice, but it is a true phenomenon. smile

My dreams are not significant to me, because I practice lucid dreaming. Therefore, I control what I do in my dreams. And if for some odd reason I am unable to while sleeping, I am aware that whatever I am dreaming is indeed just a dream. I enter REM voluntarily, so I create my dream as soon as the release of neurotransmitters stops (in which I lose the ability to use my muscles). And man, I can tell you REM is one scary place to be. D: It's so damn dark.

I fly over Austin, Texas in a lot of my dreams. xD;; Flying is just so much fun. :3 Oh. Warping objects is also loads of fun. I usually end up with a key in every dream, so it can't be helped. x3

So basically, it's so much cooler than regular dreaming. xD

I know what you both mean, and I'm aware of that, but my question isn't what you bolded, lilraine, it's the sentence right after it. "But lately I haven't been able to do that. I turn and try to do something, but nothing happens. No fire, magic, attacks, nothing. I'm worried about what that might mean." I've known about 'lucid dreaming' since I was younger, but I seem to be losing that 'ability' (I make it sound like a talent or something xP) And I'm wondering why.

ok, well that's a good question that I dont have the answer for. could be anything really. could be psychological, could be physical (natural chemical changes in your body), could be stress related... why dont you find yourself a book on practicing lucid dreaming? I'm sure there are plenty out there.
