Where was that whelp son of his? Toshiro growled a bit, glaring at nothing in particular. He'd sent the youth off on his first hunt, and he wasn't back yet. Near by, an adolescent lioness lay lounging in the shade, glaring at the pacing adult. THe piebald lion stopped, spotting a mouse. In his anger, he pounced on and killed it, tearing it into little pieces. When Shin showed up, Toshiro was going to rip into his hide so deep...

Yawning, Kimiko watched Toshiro pacing. Like she was going to lift a paw... She was a PRINCESS. Not the heiress, but a princess none the less. Tail flicking, the white lioness glared at a bird. It wasn't as hot as the oasis, but it was still warm. Growling a little, she folded her ears back, settling down in boredom. The outside world wasn't as great as she'd expected.

Kabichi padded along the Pridelands hunting grounds quietly. Shin had mentioned rogues, and she was worried. If rogus had found the Pridelands, she wanted to protect them. Noone deserved what Shin was getting. Noone.

After his first good rest in a long time, Shin had something of a bounce in his step. Until he saw a familiar silver mane in the distance. Hiding behind Kabichi, afraid to face the angry lion. "I.. Forgot to mention... One of the rogues is my dad..." Red eyes were filled with fear as he glanced towards his father, afraid to face him.

Stopping in his angry pacing, Toshiro made a face. Someone was approaching... And if his nose wasn't mistaken, Shin was with them. Turning with a snarl, he glared at the new lion. A female... Blue and purple with green. She was a sight to behind, but Toshiro was in no mood to acknowledge this. All that he knew was that he was hungry, he was angry, and Shin was there. "SHIN, YOU WORTHLESS LITTLE WHELP!"

Kabichi's ears pricked at Shin's words first. A new concepot... A parent, especially a father, hurting their son? Even in her youngest memories, before the rogues, she knew family was nothing but support. How could this be? Whatever the reason, it wasn't right. All at once a larger lion was in range, hearing, vision, scent, and she jerked her head up when he spoke.

This was the lion? Very slowly, the fur on her neck rose angrily.

This was no father, her instinct knew that. Very carefully, she remained between the two males, eying the older male suspiciously. Normally, at the sight of a rogue, she would flee. But for a normal lion, he seemed small. Still much larger than she, who had always been puny, but enough that maybe, if it came to it....

Hurrying over, the male snarled at the lioness, "Move aside, the whelp needs a lesson teaching." Behind him, Kimiko seemed to perk up and move closer, interested in the new events unfolding.

Cowering down behind Kabichi, Shin's ears folded back into his dark mane. "I-I-I'm sorry, the gazelle k-kicked me and got away, and... And..." For an adolescent, it seemed almost like a common occurance when Shin broke down and started to cry. Just the action alone made him cower more, showing signs that such an act usually earned him a smack to the face for being weak.

Kabichi stared up at the older male for several minutes, and slowly began to bare fangs. No, she did not like him. She would not comply.

"I will not leave," The adolescent hissed, "So long as you threaten another of my pride."

If her mother had been living, one would easily mistake one for another from a distance-- her body went into one of combat, fangs and claws bared in a silent threat as her insticts picked up. This was a trespasser, this was an enemy. And he would suffer for harming her home.

"Excuse me? You will move when I tell you to." He loomed over her as best he could, though it was hard to considering his size. "I will do with my son whatever I damned well please, now GET OUT OF MY WAY." He glared pointedly at Shin's weeping, displeased greatly with the show of weakness.

Practically prancing over, Kimiko eyed the new lioness, then Shin. Her golden gaze turned back to the lioness as a smile crossed her muzzle. "Little lions shouldn't stand up to someone bigger than them, sweetheart..." Her words seemed to drip with malice.

"The package matters not. It's what's inside that matters."

Kabichi continued her positioning between the two males, fangs still bared, making her contempt no secret. The huntress deep inside was awake; she was her mother's daughter at that point. If she must, she would maim--or kill.

The black and white lioness growled just a bit, walking around Kabichi and grabbing Shin by the ear. While she wouldn't get her paws dirty, she also wouldn't tollerate the little whelp hiding. Vicious and mean she was, very much like her father before her. She was also, despite being an adolescent female, the same size as Toshiro already. So when she would face off against Shin, the male obviously came in second to her. Now was no exception as she dragged him by the ear, not seeming to care that she was tearing it.

He couldn't help it, he only cried harder. The pain searing through his paler ear made the fear all the worse as he was dragged by the black and white lioness. He'd learned very fast from Toshiro that he had to obey what Kimiko told him to do. If she pulled his ear, of course he would follow. It didn't make him any less fearful, though.

Kabichi suddenly spun, roaring in fury before leaping at the other lioness. Hers was a tone never seen on her face before. Where Kabichi had never once shown malic beyond hunting, she now exhibited an unknown fury upon the forgeign female, and she flew off on instinct and memory; memory of her parents' own murder, memory of that battle. She had to fight smart. They were older, more experianced. She needed wits. Play up her skills, but never show her best until desperate.

The one attack was enough - It startled Kimiko into letting Shin's ear go and the technically younger lioness to skitter away from the smaller. Only one of her sisters would have dared do that to her! She eyed Kabichi, shying away to clean her wounds. She would think twice before going near and underestimating someone smaller again.

In the colorful lioness' distraction, Toshiro took the oppertunity to pounce upon his son. What he lacked in strength, he'd aimed to make up for in mind, and he took oppertunities when he saw them. He ignored the yelp of pain from the younger lion as his claws dug into mostly black fur, opening up wounds new and old alike. When Shin tried to craw away, Toshiro bit onto his tail, snarling fiercely in anger.

Kabichi gave an angry half his, half snarl of warning at Kimiko before spinning on Toshiro, and she immediately spun, attemping to pounce from his side. Her fangs bared, claws still bloodied, and lunged, roaring furiously.

She would not stand this. At all.

Letting his son go, Toshiro roared at hte lioness, attempting to parry her attacks. Normally he didn't fight with lionesses physically, but she attacked first - He could call it out as self defense. But even he wasn't one to stand for much fighting, as violent as he could be. Snarling, he did his best to shove her away, taking one last swat at Shin before trying to dance out of her reach. "Get out of here, Whelp, I never want to see your pathetic face again!"

He didn't have to be told twice - Any escape from that pain was enough for him. He took his oppertunity and ran, ears back and eyes still filled with tears. Shin ignored the pain in his back and tail as his three black paws and one white carried him across the grass. He didn't know which direction he was going, but somehow he instinctively followed a long-faded scent of old bones leading towards the south.
