A cool breeze had errupted from the ocean, and as Tequila stood on the sandy beach, she wondered how many days the land had left of Summer. It was still plenty hot outside, but something was telling her that the weather would change soon.

That was fine in her opinion, she enjoying the cooler months anyhow.

It was the same every Summer, and the scorching hot days would sneak a cool breeze every now and then, reminding all of the creatures that fall woudl surely come. Tequila liked fall the best, maily because of the colors and the atmosphere.

But, as the cool breeze had passed, another warm flow of air surrounded the mare, and she giggled at how quickly the reminder of fall had passed. Shaking her long mane out of her face, she put her feet into the water, only to feel a much needed rush of cold on her body.

It was so ridiculously hot outside! Even in the shade, the scorching sun had already warmed up the earth enough that it really didn't matter where Rakhsh stood, he was still hot. He sighed and looked up into the branched of the tree he was standing under. It seemed that the birds and squirrels knew of some cooler place, because they weren't here. Well, perhaps with a bit of searching, he could find a cooler place as well.

He stepped out from the weak shelter that the shade of the tree provided and began walking aimlessly. Perhaps a nice dip in a stream or pond would help to cool off. That would actually feel pretty nice right now. With a destination now in mind, the stallion tossed his head to get his long heavy mane away from his face, and marched purposefully in the direction of a pond he knew was nearby.

Tequila also decided to make her way out of the sun, and as she clung to the shelter of the trees, she felt her dark body finally cool off. On days like today, she usually stayed in the shelter of any trees, since dragging her hair around was the biggest annoyance!

But, as she quietly walked, she could have sworn she heard someone nearby..

Perking her ears up and gazing her red eyes about, she looked through the trees to see who was around her. No one could be seen, but the sound of hooves definitely got louder! It was mysterious in a sense, and she grinned and started moving at a faster pace, wondering who she would run into up ahead.

She tended to look at things as a game, and her excitement gre in knowing that someone was around her!

As he came across a large grassy area without any trees to cover him from the sunlight, he was grateful of his light colouring. He knew that if his coat was darker, he'd be absolutely miserable in this blazing sunlight. As he continued on, he finally saw the sparkle of a pool of water in the distance, and his spirits rose considerably. He could almost feel the coolness of the water just thinking about it.

When the pool finally came into clearer view, he perked his ears as he thought he heard the light footfalls of what sounded like another equine creature. He knew there were other Soquili like him in this area, but he also knew that not all of them were friendly. Taking a little caution, he looked around him as he walked towards the water, which he saw was sitting beside a small grove of thick trees. What a perfect place on a hot day like today! Cool water, and thick shade!

Tequila bent her head around a tree and spotted a calm looking pond in a pretty atmosphere. Wow, how lucky was she to run into that! It was so serene and pretty, and she giggled for a moment before looking to see what else was there.

As she curved her neck around the tree, she saw an interesting looking stallion who was approaching the area. His coloring was much different then hers, and from his blue eyes she supposed he looked kind.

Taking a bit of a risk, she made her way out from behind the tree and smiled at the stallion. "Well hello!"

She let her eyes playfully examine all of the markings on his body, before pollitely bringing them back on his cool looking eyes. "I heard your hoofbeats a bit ago, and wasn't sure who was around me. But, I am realived to see someone kind." She flicked her tail up happily and smiled at him warmly.

Rakhsh smiled at the mare as she popped out from behind the trees. She didn't startle him, as he had heard her movement, and was expecting something to appear soon. And since she came out in a friendly way, he was pretty sure she wasn't any kind of threat.

He bowed his head to her and smiled.

"Hello to you as well. You are lucky, for I am kind, but you should not be so easy to make that judgment. For all you know, I could appear kind, but actually be full of malice and hatred."

He nodded sagely, but then quickly smiled again.

"But there is no need to worry. I assure you I only have the best intentions. I was just coming here in hopes of getting some relief from the scorching sun today. My name is Rakhsh. May I be so bold as to ask your name?"

He watched her calmly, awaiting her return greeting.

She stepped a few paces forward and cotinued to giggle at him. "I have run into quite a few that are like that, and so far survived. I guess you can say I.. tend to enjoy some danger here and there." With a playfull wink, she realized she also needed to make an introduction. But sadly, as much as she liked confronting danger and new personalities, she knew how dangerous it was at the same time.

"The names' Tequila, and of course you can ask my name!" There was nothing bold about that in her opinion! "Its nice to meet you Raksh, though I agree, this heat is killer in my opinion. I can only stand out in the sun for a matter of minutes before I make my way back into the shade." Ah yes, one of the reasons she hated the summer time. It was so much easier to move about on cooler days.

"So do you come to this pond often?" she trailed her eyes on the scenary again, taken in bits of pieces of it because it was so new to her. "Maybe your footsteps led me here, because I have never seen it before." A lucky pond to remember in her opinion!

Rakhsh shook his head. He had never seen this area before. He had just happened to stumble upon it.

"No, I have never been here before, either. Though I hope I will remember it, as it is quite a pleasant place, and looks quite peaceful."

Indeed, the calm water of the pond, and the abundant shade of the trees provided a rather nice setting for anyone who wished to get relief from the hot sun, or just come and rest for a while. He looked back to the mare and smiled.

"Tequila is a very interesting name. I've never heard it before. Does it have any meaning that you know of?"

He moved over a feet to take more advantage of the tree's shade.

"Well I was just going to ask you the same about your name!"

With a thump of her front hoof, she flicked her tail and thought for a moment. "My name is just a name I suppose, signifying the relaxed creature I am. I don't think it holds any really fantastic meaning." With a small grin, she eyed him playfully. "If anything, I am sure yours holds more meaning then mine!"

She still enjoyed her name, even if she didn't know much about it.

"Finally, someone who is in the same boat as me." Letting her hair fall naturally, she sighed and tried to blow some out of her face. "I see you have very long hair as well." And his was so silky and nice, but it was probably a pain to drag around all day. She knew that feeling very well

He smiled as she brought up the meaning of his name. He was a creature of legend, or at least an embodiment of it. Though he didn't like to brag, she had asked, so she deserved an explination.

"My name is actually that of a wonderful horse of a Persian and Arabic legend. If you like, I would be glad to tell you the legend, though I must warn you that it is a bit lengthy. But if you have a patient ear, I would love to tell you."

He nodded, a soft smile still on his face. Then he laughed when she noticed that they both suffered from the heat and heavyness of long manes.

"Yes, indeed. It can be quite a burden at times, can't it? Though it is quite nice in the winter."

He smiled warmly at the young mare. She was quite an interesting mare to speak to, and Rakhsh was rather enjoying her company.

"I would love to hear!" she said, almost too eagerly. But she did love stories, and Raksh was so elegant and fun to talk to, of course she wanted to learn more about him.

"For a story, my ears are always patient." with a happy expression, she gleamed at him, wondering what myseries his name held. Was she boring then compared to him, since she didn't have a story? Well, she sort of decided that her life was about making a story, so maybe she still had time to do so! There was no reason to compare herself to anything, since everyone had their own lives.

But, dragging herself away from her thoughts, she giggled at his comment about hair. "That is why I enjoy the cooler months, since I can find my hair useful then!" In the summer, too much hair was quite a pain.

Rakhsh laughed again at her eagerness to hear his story. He was very proud of his unusual heritage, and was happy to know that somebody was interested in it as well.

"I am glad you are willing to listen. I hope it will meet you expectations. If I might say so myself, it it quite an amazing story."

He smiled and tossed his heavy mane aside, as a bit of it had fallen in his face. He sighed as he began his story.

"There was once a prince named Rostram. He wanted the best horse in all the lands. After visiting many breeders, he still couldn't find one that was good enough for him. Then one day, he came across a nomad herder who tamed wild horses. The original horse Rakhsh was just a yearling at the time, but already showed his strength and wildness. None could tame him. None could contain him. Rostram, admiring the power that the horse held, wanted it more than anything, and would have no other. The nomad shook his head and said that he would not try again to capture the yearling. So Rostram tried it himself. He alone was the only one who could capture the wild stallion, and so it was his to keep. They formed a bond and understood each other, and Rakhsh would never let anybody else ride him. Shortly after capturing Rakhsh, Rostram left on a series of wonderful travels, and he and his horse encountered many difficulties. They battled horrible beasts and defeated many enemies. Rakhsh was said to be the bravest horse ever to live. And he always stayed by Rostram's side. Not because he was his master, for Rakhsh had no master, but because they were bonded together by some unseen force. Rakhsh never required any training. He protected Rostram instinctively and fought the same way."

He paused for a moment after this long speech. He thought that Tequila's ears could use a short rest. After a moment, he continued.

"Rostram had divine protection from the gods, and due to the bond they shared, this protection was passed onto Rakhsh as well, and gave him an unusually long life. The final enemy that Rostram and Rakhsh faced together was Rostram's half-brother, Shaghad, who was very jealous of Rostram's power and strength, and his incredible bond with Rakhsh. He desired power over anything else, and saw his brother as competition that would eventually bring him down. In the end, it was Shaghad who finally defeated the seemingly unbeatable pair. They died together, and there was much sorrow in the world after their deaths. However, Rakhsh's spirit was so strong, and the gods were so fond of him, that a small piece of his soul lingered on in the living world. For thousands of years, it floated aimlessly around the world, searching for a soul that would be compatible with his. And he finally found one. Centuries after his death, Rakhsh found a soul that he though was worthy to carry on his legend. And at that point, I was born. I carry within me that bit of soul from the legendary horse that accomplished so much in his living life."

He stopped and sighed, lowering his head a bit as he thought about this. He had known about this piece of his soul as soon as he was born. There was a part of Rakhsh's original soul that spoke to him without words. And though he had lived with this his whole life, every time he spoke about it, he was reminded of the heavy weight that he had to bear in carrying this soul with him. Though there were no expectations from others, he held his own expectations, and tried his hardest to live up to the legend that he had become part of.

Sighing again, he looked back up at Tequila and smiled.

"So, was the story worth hearing? I told you it was long."

He smiled that warm smile that was almost always visible upon his face when he was in the company of friendly creatures.

She was completely silent until he finished his story, and could only stare in awe at the tale. "How amazing.. you are like, legendary then? I am speaking to a legend?!" With a light laugh, she grinned at him and calmed herself. "But seriously, what an amazing story. I am thankful you shared it with me." What an honor, that she was able to learn about him.

Wouldn't it be hard though, to be something right away at birth?

"So what does that mean then, for your life here? Do you have certain duties or anything?" Or could he live how he chose? She wondered so much now, and found he was even more mysterious then before! Hopefully his life was carefree, just as it was for the legendary horse.

"That must be cool, knowing you represent something amazing." She drifted her eyes to the sky and spaced out for a moment.

He smiled, and could tell that his story had made an impact on her before she even said anything. Her stunned silence was enough to show how she felt.

"I guess you could say you were talking to a legend. But I am just a legend in the making, you could say. I am continuing the noble legend that the first Rakhsh was part of, and I am proud to have been chose to carry on his legacy in this lifetime."

It was true. When he was just a foal, he didn't realize the full meaning of the legendary horse's reincarnation. But as he grew, he learned his legend, and learned that it was up to him to decide how this part would play out.

"As for duties, I don't have any specific ones. However, it is my lifelong duty to live by the principles that my spiritual ancestor lived by. Although the ending of this part of the legend is ultimately up to me, there could be consequences if I stray from the noble principles that the original Rakhsh lived by. But I don't really see them as duties. I love living the way I do, and I have no problem living by the standards that were set centuries before I was born."

He nodded his head sagely and smiled warmly once again. He was so happy that Tequila was so interested in the story of his life. Perhaps he had just made a new friend.

"Now you must tell me about you life, Tequila. What have you experienced, and what makes you such a pleasant mare today?"

"As long as you are happy, that's all that matters really. There are some who are too afraid to accept their destinys, but you seem very comfortable with it, and very proud!" That was refreshing, since it was always sad to see someone who was unhappy with their life goals and dreams. "I am sure you will do great things, as long as you stay as positive as you are now."

She was suprised in his next question, and she shifted her weight onto her other leg.

"I appreciate you calling me pleasant." she first stated, with a warm glee. "My life is much more simple then yours I'm afraid, I really look like nothing compared to you!" It wasn't that she was embarrassed.. but she did enjoy impressing others..

"My greatest achievement is my three children, and they have all grown up and become great leaders in the world." Ah, she just loved them so. "Besides that, I just travel a lot, since I enjoy seeing new scenary and such. Not nearly as impressive of you, of course!" She must have looked old, for having children!
