Soo....are you a fan of the ever popular Harry Potter? Have you read them all? Have you read them at all? Do you think it's all just a bunch of hype? The final book? Discuss! Tell me all about what you like/dislike about Harry Potter (Books only, movies would have to go in the Feature Presentation sub-forum).

*Warning*: This thread may contain spoilers! If you don't want to know, then don't read it!

I think HP is a very good work of literature. I love the storyline, thw chaters, etc. It's amazing at how it's pulled children into reading. And I also believe it teaches about good morals. Friendship, love, good wins over evil, etc.
Due to extreme procrastination of summer AP work I will not read the 7th book for another 2 weeks. So until then I shall not return to this topic! blaugh So far the ending has yet to be spoiled to me, even though everyone I know who reads the book has finished it already.
Yes I think it was overhyped but Halo 3's been vastly overhyped so...yeah...it happens, big whoop. They should've made smaller versions with just the last few chapters. For some people that's all they care about really anyhow.

Not big on the books, but I'll watch the movies.

The seventh was actually fairly decent, though Rowling took it a bit far on the character-killing. There's killing off main characters well, then there's "Hey! Hey! Look what I can do! I'm the all-powerful author! Look, look!". Honestly, I'd say it was the latter with book seven. It was reasonable numbers-wise, and they even got a few worth-killing honest-to-god main characters, too, but come on, five characters in the span of about 120 pages (the two in the escape scene, then the three in the Battle of Hogwarts) - they add up to five characters in about 120 pages, which seems to be getting excessive. Beyond that, three of them didn't even happen in first-person - they were asides, after-the-fact realizations. And Fred got, what, a third of a page? The only one with an honest "Oh, s**t, he's dead..." scene was Dobby. Come on, like Lupin wasn't important enough for an onscreen death.

That, and the whole connection between Voldemort and Harry - logical, well-formed, but all it added up to was "Well, there's a bit of him in you, and you in him, and him in your mother's father's third cousin's dog, and...". It just seemed a tad stretched to me.

Though, to defend it, I did like the humanization she put on Dumbledore, an otherwise perfect, all-powerful character. Even in the end, after, what, near a century of life, his power-lust and desire killed him. This is good. This is a much better character. Though still stereotypical, he's a lot less invincible with that.

I've read Harry Potter since the very beginning and love it, though the last few books kind of dragged out towards the end. I especially like the two smaller books about quidditch and magical creatures, wish she did more of those.

I don't like the movies though. They leave out way too much, and while I understand they can't put in everything without making it 10 hours long I wish they would throw in some of the little things (like the thing about de-gnoming the garden from one of the earlier books xd ) It's like all they put in the movies is the dark stuff and action scenes.
