Katana'Kitsune knew something was off the minute she had rolled over and woken up completely. Something felt off, strange, not like it usually did. Hmm. Stretching within the den she let her last yawn escape her and she wriggled from the confines of the den...though as soon as she wriggled through the opening, she noticed it was much harder then usual.
Usually she was so thin she could slip through the entrance with ease...
It was Ai who had more of a problem with it!
"Maybe I just ate too much..." she mused while relaxing her muscles, taking a walk in the grass, she did eat a nice rather hefty meal within the last few days, but she was hotter too as the days wore on and the sun passed down below the horizon. Why would she be getting hotter at night?
It didn't make sense.
"Ai...where are you?" she spoke to herself peering around, she was but a few meters away from the den, hmmm, was he still inside? It was hard to tell, his coat being almost completely black.

Ai had to keep himself from following right after Kat as she left, forcing himself to know that everything would be alright and that no strange white-male with wings was gonna fly down and....
....
Maybe he'd better get up.
He'd probably only remained laying where he was for a few moments before he shifted his weight up to stand, his muscles groaning from an awkward sleeping position as he stood up on all fours, stretching his body out to get all the sleep-kinks out of it, before going on to ease his way out through their rock-covered den-entrance.
He had to make a mental note to get around to fixing how much effort it took for him to get in, in the future. He figured if he lifted it another three or four inches, it'd be perfect.
Oh, he'd learn it probably needed another five or six for other reasons.
He loomed in the shade for a while, watching the lioness as she took her walk about with a smile on his face, and ready to move if anything came and tried to steal her away or harm her.
Oh yes, he'd rip anything like that to shreds. It was overly violent, but he'd come to terms with having a protective streak over -his- Kat. Not to say he 'owned' her, but he wouldn't let anybody else steal her without her consent (which he doubted they'd get.)
"I'm right here." he answered quickly upon his presence being inquired of, walking up to butt his head lightly against hers, before nuzzling her cheek. "Good morning, love."

Kat heard his voice and turned around, a smile beaming on her face, eyes glinting in the sunlight. Immediately she padded over to him, a bit of a bounce in her step seeing him there, and rubbed her cheek against his and purred softly. He was so warm and soft and strong, so cute and so protective, how she loved him so. "Good morning to you too lover," she said with a smile, pulled back and walked around him in a circle, a giggle escaping her lips.
"Wasn't sure where you are, its so hard to find you in there!" she said with a laugh, flicking her tail, then standing before him again. Should she ask him? She wasn't sure, she did feel rather...big today...like, maybe she ate too much and her stomach was engorged, would he notice, has he noticed? Would he say anything about it?
"Its hot out today, want to go to the water hole?" she was in fact very, very hot, she almost panted for a moment but she hesitated in doing so, this felt so awkward!
"Please?" she asked in a softer voice, playful and cute, swaying her tail behind her and standing beside him leaning on his shoulder, "Come with me there?"

Ai beamed at the greeting he received in return, though it was nothing 'new' to say the least. It just, seemed much more 'purr'y than usual for some reason. His head turned to watch her as she circled around him, grinning a bit. Oh, he just wanted to pounce and TICKLE HER, she was so adorable.
In fact, she was positively radiating that morning. Moreso than usual again.
HMMM.
"Well, I'll just have to tell the darkness to get lighter so you can see me." he replied, touching his nose to hers. Ai observed she seemed to be a bit edgy about something, but he really couldn't tell what, to be frank. She didn't look like she was hurt, and if she had been, he would have been all over it, so, overall, nothing seemed out of place.
At her suggestion he grinned. "Of course, love. You don't even have to ask me too." Heck, the water hole was almost a daily ritual for him since he was so dark in color and the savanna sun was enough to melt him into itty-bitty peices.
He purred as she leaned against his shoulder, leaning back a bit, before getting a bit of a puzzled expression.
.. HMM. Something was out of place, but he couldn't tell what. Maybe she'd done something different with her fur?

Kat grinned and purred again, tail flicking as she took a few steps, turned around, crouched down and smirked at him and gave him a wink. She was incredibly playful today, and hot. What is with the hotness? Hmm, her coat wasn't that dark after all, maybe it was just the position of the sun. "Yes, you tell that darkness to be nice and not conceal my love from me..." she then stood straight and took a few steps backwards, waiting for him to follow.
She loved to be playful, it was always a thing with her.
She tilted her head at Ai, and watched him. Did he notice something felt different too? Should she ask? What if she was just letting the heat get to her, that wouldn't be good, not at all. "Come on then Ai, follow me," she said walking forward to touch her nose to his, a smirk on her face.
Though something still felt different.
"Lets go..its really, really hot today..and something feels different..." well, she said it probably at a not good time, but it just sort of blurted out. Though she wanted t know if he was really, really hot too.

Ai followed after her like a loyal little puppy as he was beckoned with that -look- she just had to her, leaning back a bit as she approached to touch noses with him, before purring back to her. She was so lovely.
He blinked a bit as she suddenly pointed out how hot it felt to her, pausing before he answered to assess just how 'hot' it could have been in comparison with having a 'SUN, HIT ME' coat, before shaking his head. "It's not that hot....." he mused, seeming concerned, before nudging her a bit. "We should go, you might just be dehydrated and you just need some water to cool you off." he suggested. He wasn't a doctor or anything, but it did seem like a logical explanation with the limited knowledge he had of the health of others.
But something about this seemed familiar to him. He couldn't put his paw on it exactly, but it would come to him later.
Nudging her side, Ai started to walk towards their water-hole of choice, tail flicking a bit.

"It feels like it, I don't know, its strange..." she would've thought that he would agree with his black pelt, hmm, strange, perhaps she was just dehydrated or something, that would make sense, then she might feel hotter then she actually was. But why did it feel so strange, why?
Maybe she was just tired...
Kat walked with Ai side by side, a smile on her, tail flicking every which way, though as soon as she started walking through the grass, she noticed something right away. Usually hte grass wouldn't press against her so much, so why was it pressing against her stomach in such a way? Was she shrinking?
Fidgeting while walking Kat would be glad when they were out of the grass, this was awkward, and she wasn't sure how to explain it to Ai without seeming delusional.

Ai looked over at Kat upon feeling her discomfort, his head tilting to the side a bit, before he nuzzled her a bit. "Don't worry about it. If it's more than that, we'll figure it out." he said, beaming a bit. Afterall, he was paying more attention to her face than he was the fact that she was getting a grassy-belly.
Or that he was going to get quite a bit of hunting to do on his 'to do' list on top of all his other responsibilities. He'd just have to balance his time a bit better. In fact, he was more worried that she was sick than anything else as the pair walked along. It was quite a big degree of 'concern' for him to bare, frankly.
The walk felt rather short to Ai as the grass died out to open up for the rock-surrounded body of water that had been their destination, stepping away from the brown lioness to approach it to sit next to it, waiting for Kat to drink before bending over himself to do so as well.

"Yea, we will I'm sure," Kat said reassuringly to herself and Ai, she hoped it wasn't anything more then that which meant she was sick, she hated being sick or hurt or anything, and worrying was only half of the problem. Flicking her tail she tried to keep her mind off of it, as they came into the open by the rocks the grass dissipated from touching her belly, which she was glad for, it felt awkward when it had done that.
Hmmm...
As Ai walked to the water's edge she smiled and watched as he walked on...not that she was, checking out his butt or anything, but she was just mesmerized by him, she loved him so much, Ai was so important to her, he really was.
Stepping forward she craned her neck down to lap up some of the cool water, and continued to do so, suddenly she felt so thirsty...this day was becoming awkward and confusing. As her neck craned over, her stomach felt strange, and still felt big,s he wondered if he would say anything, maybe she was just over assuming...maybe she was just fine and just ate too much.

As he watched her, a moment of 'OGOD' came over Ai's mind as it seemed to suddenly click into 'GUESS WHAAAAAAT' on what seemed different about his love. He'd seen it not once, but -three- times before, and knew it to be an affliction of females where as the males were prone to panicking in the background.
"........."
Ai waited a moment to confirm what his suspicion was by watching her, before his brain definately confirmed it, causing Ai to supress a bit of a spazz and look away from her.
"Kat. I think I just figured out why you're feeling so hot..." he stuttered, sounding a bit awkward as he admitted it. If he admitted his suspicions to her, then that meant.... HE DIDN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING LIKE THAT?
He was just so full of fail.
"I think....." he trailed off for a moment, before suddenly spouting, "You're pregnant.." She -did- show the tale-tail signs that his mother and aunt had -both- shown with their pregnancies.. but... HIM. PARENT?
He'd probably faint.

Kat continued to drink for her throat felt so dry and hot, and her eyes traveled up to Ai as he started to speak, as she continually sipped at the water. He found a reason? Good, then perhaps she could stop killing herself with worry and anxiety. Flicking her tail she waited and then listened, ears fully intent on picking up whatever Ai said to her...and then her mouth as if on cue bursted all of its contents of water back out, "What?!"
She could just faint, faint right then.
Her legs suddenly felt like rubber and wobbly and she stepped away from the edge of the water to look at him, a scared look in her eyes. Was that possible, was it? Her parents never lived long enough to tell her about parenthood and cubs...this was insane, was it true, was it?
It wasn't that she wasn't happy Ai and her were going to be parents..but she had heard stories of births and the pain, and it frightened her. Sitting back she closed her eyes, her legs somewhat shaking, she could've guessed this, she had felt funny lately...and all the signs were there Ai.
"Ai, I'm so happy but...I'm so scared, what if I'm not good enough?" she didn't want to be a horrible mother...

YEP. THat had been about his reaction too, except, y'know, not water-spewing from the sudden. He hadn't been drinking water when he'd realized it, because if he had, he probably would've choked on it. That wouldn't have been a good lesson for their children.
'YER DADDY IS DEAD'
Definately not.
He probably should have waited for her to finish what she was doing before making that announcement, upon watching Kat turn into rubber and awkward, rising up to go sit by her side, leaning his head against hers with a bit of a soothing purr. If she'd calm down a little bit, he could talk her through this without a hitch.
"You'll be a fine mother, it comes with instinct, love, to take care of children. Besides, I have plenty of experience with children, being the babysitter and all, so I'll be here to help you." he said, smiling a bit, in hopes it'd help her feel less antsy about it.
"Not to mention we have time to plan for them and get both of us mentally prepared, alright?"

Kat's mind was racing. What if that god that attacked her came back and found the cubs? What if he tried to take her away from Ai and the cubs..or endanger the cubs? No, no, no, that couldn't happen it couldn't. She just wasn't sure how to react, being the only surviving cub from a family wasn't helping, watching her sister slip away when they were cubs didn't help either.
As he leaned against her she leaned into him, her head beneath his chin,k her eyes closed as if she was wanting to disappear with him to somewhere else. "I hope so I just...I want us to be good parents and...I want them to like me..." she had no doubts about Ai being a wonderful father, he had younger siblings and he knew how to be with them when they were young, she had no doubts about him, but herself she did.
But...they could get through it together, they could, Ai made her strong.
She nodded and spoke softly, "Yea...we'll have to make the den entrance bigger though...it was sort of tight this morning...I think I'll be alright as long as...your with me, promise you'll stay with me when...it happens? Please?" She was afraid of the birthing process, from hearing stories of the pain and possibility of still-borns...it scared her so much. "Please love?"

She seemed to be accepting this rather well, that was good. Ai sighed deeply as she rested her head underneath his chin. Her concern, though, made him worry a bit, causing him to nuzzle her lightly, tilting his head a bit, before he pressed his nose to hers to keep her attention.
"I was already thinking about opening up the den a bit, love, so that won't be a problem. I'll probably get that done sometime today to make things easier for you." he offered, eyebrows rising a bit to add to the 'happy' look he had going for him.
THEN CAME THE AWKWARD QUESTION.
-Stay-? Ai tried to recall the one time he -had- stuck around, recalling his aunt Tai and.. ogod... It was mentally a bit of a feud with his own desire to have fled the scene, but being unable to manage it, instead staring in horror.
He sighed again, before nuzzling her. "Of course I'll stay. I'm not much of a father if I wouldn't even watch them come into the world, love..."

Kat sighed in relief, so he was thinking of opening a bit? Well, most likely since he was so much larger in height and muscle mass then she was. But at least it wasn't too much of a thing to ask for...she wondered how many cubs she would have, how big her stomach might get...hopefully just opening the den now would be fine for the rest of her...pregnancy.
It felt awkward to think or even say it...she'd get used to it though.
She wriggled her forearms for a moment, the feeling of shakiness leaving her, she didn't feel like a rubber armed lioness anymore. "I'm glad, and you're going to be a great father Ai, really," she said giving him a reassuring nuzzle against his cheek, pulling back so she could look up into his eyes.
They'd get through it, of course they would.
But then came another question, "Should we...tell your parents?"
