The twins galloped along the shoreline as fast as their thin legs could carry them. Sol was behind them somewhere, they knew, but they were so awed by the ocean they didn't notice Sol was behind them. All they knew was the ocean was everything he had described to them and more. The sights, the sounds, the smell, everything was wonderful in their eyes. And the sand! It was always shifting, making Calliope stumble more than normal. Damon, unfortunately, had trouble even standing. However, after a few brief minutes, they had adjusted themselves to the shifting sands of the beach.
They slowed down to watch the waves instead, getting as close as possible until the water reached up to try and lap at their hooves. "It can't catch me!" The filly laughed, jumping away as a small wave washed up towards her retreating hooves. She shuffled closer as the wave itself backed away, but as another wave washed up onto the shore her twin gave her a mischievous little n** on the backside. She squealed in surprise, turning to glare at her brother, but let out another squeal of surprise as the waves reached up to lap at her hooves. Forgetting to glare at her brother, she shuffled closer, ears perked. It felt strange to have the water surround her hooves like that, so she took a couple more tentative steps into the water, up to her knees in the cold, salty water.

Sol was not far behind the pair. All the excitement of finding the ocean with his young friends had made him thirsty and caused the Ichsa to pause at a small stream of fresh water he had spotted running down a gully in the beach a little while ago. Presumably this was not usually here, runoff from a flood or some such perhaps, and it hadn’t been the most convenient place to drink ever found but eventually the stallion had quenched his thirst without ingesting too much sand.
When he'd looked up the foals had been gone. Thanks to the shifting surface of the beach however their hoof prints were clear and the pale war-horse had set off along the trail at a gallop not so much out of worry as out of a desire to go fast.
Sol grinned to himself; he had to admit that he'd missed going flat out of late and this was a perfect opportunity to make up for lost time.
Before too long, dark eyes spotted the two small figures down by the water and Sol slowed first to a canter and then a trot as he approached. "What do you make of the water Calliope?" he asked with a smile as he came to a halt beside the filly's brother. “I would not recommend drinking it; the ocean is very salty and will make you thirsty. It would not hurt to taste it if you feel the urge though,” he added with a smile to the pair. “I know I did on my first visit. I found it somewhat strange but not entirely unpleasant.”

Chandara had stayed near the ocean recently for an unknown reason but still, the ocean was lovely as it had always been. The rhythmic way the waves moved on and off the shoreline, the sound the wind made, it was different than that of a forested area, or plains.
Chandara had waded ankle deep into the water and was once more making her way down the beach. The laughter of two young foals just seeing the ocean for the fist time echoed to her atop the wind as it played with her light purple mane.
"Children?" she questioned her voice but a quiet whisper.
The ischa raised her elegant head and turned to see the pair of Reya foals farther down the beach. A soft and kind smile showed on the lady's muzzle as she made her way toward them slowly. Another joined them shortly after coming in at full gallop, the familiar figure of a stallion with his grey mane flying.
"Sol." she said equally quiet still approaching in the shallow waters. "So Fate has arranged us another meeting,” she added to herself with a smile. That must have been what she had been waiting for, no doubt he found the little Rit he had been questing for. That was quite fine. Chandara was pleased his quest had been successful.
"Welcome to Quirne children." She told the two reya foals when she was in hearing distance. "A true pleasure to see you again Sol." She said her voice always carrying a mysterious air to it.

When their pale friend had suddenly spoken, the filly jumped and whirled around to face him, splashing water about as she did so. Oh, it was Sol, that was okay then. Both foals grinned up at him, and Calliope bobbed her head. "It's cold!" She said, then looked down at the water around her legs, studying it. "And it feels neat!"
The colt took a few hesitant steps forward, allowing the waves to wash over his legs, as well. "It feels funny!" They could drink it, too? He wrinkled his nose and bent to sample the water, but it was his turn to jump in surprise this time, letting out a squeak as he did so. It was another straight-horned, pretty winged nequus! This one sounded like a girl, but she had a... A funny tail!
The foals, intrigued and excited by this newcomer, both bounded over to greet her. "Who're you?" The filly asked, coming to an abrupt halt in front of the mare, ears perked and eyes wide. "You're so pretty!"
"And you have a neat tail!" The colt said, attempting the same abrupt halt as his sister, but he only succeeded in toppling over into the sand with an 'eep!'

Sol bowed his head in a greeting to the other Ichsa, chuckling at the foals' comments as he did so. "Damon, Calliope; this is Chandara," he informed them with a nod. Then, with a slight smile, he turned to the purple-maned mare. "I fear that is all I know of you; I was forced to depart in something of a hurry last we met."
Fate. Well why not? There were many forces at work in the world, why should fate not be among them? It did make the world a nicer place to think about he supposed; far more intriguing to believe in fate than to believe in simple chance and coincidence. ...If fate was real did everything happen for a reason? His meeting with the foals, the time he had been forced to spend in D'ob thanks to his injuries... Vince? Gods. Had that been fate too? If so he wasn't so sure he liked the concept so much any more. No; far better to believe in good and bad fortune than to think there was some power that could control your, could force you down paths that ripped your heart asunder and that there was nothing, nothing one could do but walk on and take it.
All these thoughts had passed through the stallion's mind in the space of a second or two and no sign of them had shown on his face. The most any would have been able to guess at was that perhaps the pale-coated stallion was distracted for a moment by how the sea swirled about a large smooth stone partially imbedded in the sand.

A smile crossed the mare's face as the foals charged her. The Girl came to an abrupt halt while her twin face planted in the sand nearby. "Thank you both." she said kindly "Damon and Calliope, your names are both lovely and fitting."
Chandara looked at them both "Don't drink the water." she told the foals "It's salty." Chandara had noticed them going to attempt before she startled them. "If you drink it, the water will just make you thirstier." she explained.
Chardara turned to Sol, "True." she said softly "But I can tell more about you for your actions the last time we met." her rit tail swayed contently "Kind, chivalrous, and a protector of those who need it." That had been her impression when they met, she could understand his hurry at the time.
"Are you their caretaker now?" she asked motioning to the twin reya foals trying to wake him from his thoughts.

The black colt jumped up onto all fours again, peering up at Chandara just as curiously as his twin sister. "Thank you!" They said in unison.
"It's nice to meet you, Chandara!" Damon said, prancing about her in a circle to study her a bit more.
"You're so pretty!" The filly exclaimed, prancing around her in the opposite direction with the same intent as her brother.
"Don't drink it?" Damon asked suddenly, pausing to look at the water before trotting over to it, staying far enough away so that it wouldn't reach his hooves. He lowered his muzzle to get a better look at it, ears perked. "But Sol said we could try it if we wanted to!"
"But if it makes you thirsty, then why even try it?" His sister asked suddenly, looking over at him before bounding over to prance in the water, splashing it around and sending droplets everywhere.

Sol smiled and gave a shrug. "Curiosity? Besides, I rather liked the taste myself, though not to swallow. Perhaps I am just somewhat out of the ordinary?" he suggested with a chuckle. Well he already knew that, didn't he?
Most people didn't do as he did, most people were happy to look out for themselves for the most part, a mentality he had never understood. It was good to have a stranger recognise the qualities in him. "I fear I was not able to tell as much of you Chandara," the stallion replied with a smile. "Save of course that you were willing to share your knowledge without question." The fact that the Rit she'd pointed him at hadn’t been the one he was looking for was beside the point.
"I... hum well I suppose I'm helping them out," Sol said with a nod as he recalled the Ichsa mare's question. "After all," he went no flicking a bit of water at the matched Reya, "what else are friends for but to help one another?"

"You are welcome children." she said. The lady watched them one at a time as they circled her getting a better look at her colors and interesting tail.
"Thank you Calliope." she said "You and your brother make an adorable pair." she complimented the twins. Chandara looked to Damon "It's just a warning, you should always know what you stick your nose into.” she told him. Curiosity was always a good thing, but not if it hurt you accidentally. Chandara would be horrified if one of the two twins hurt themselves. Children shouldn't get hurt like that.
"You are hardly out of the ordinary Sol." she smiled "Everyone is in their own way." she told him wisely.
Chandara let fly her gentle laughter as the foals played. It was a delightful sound like chiming crystal. She had forgotten how adorable foals were. Children so innocent in everything they did.
"I felt and saw your intentions were pure. To help those who need it." Chandara said, she had a gift she could feel things others felt.
She listened to Sol for a moment “To help, care and stay loyal.” She agreed "There is no greater thing in the world than the bonds of friendship although some may be greater than others.”

They had both noted her curious tail, but as both of them were still new to the world, they knew not the stereotypes of each breed. Heck, they didn't even know there were more than three different breeds at such a point, two of which they didn't know the names of. Similarly, they didn't know that such a tail as Chandara's was rare, unique even, because she was the second Ichsa they had seen, so such a thing seemed natural at this point.
"You're welcome," Calliope said, beaming. "And thank you!"
"Yes, thank you!" The colt said, not wanting to be outdone by his sister with manners. He may not be as smart as she, but he was just as competitive if not moreso, always trying to outdo his younger, more skilled sibling. He eyed the water again, debating whether to taste it or not, but before he could finish thinking on the topic his sister dashed past him through the shallow water, spraying him with seawater as she went. He tossed his small head; the water hadn't reached it, but just in case it did, he wanted it off. "Hey!" He called, then chased after her as fast as his little legs could carry him. She was running through the water, up past her fetlocks, and he chose the sand. Neither noticed but the filly was having a harder time reaching her maximum speed with the water pushing against her legs.

It would not, Sol decided, be a good idea to let his annoyance show in front of the foals and the stallion therefore kept a pleasant expression on his face as the Ichsa mare denounced him as ordinary. It wasn't even as if she was making sense. He was ordinary but nobody was ordinary? If she was going to insult him could she not at least have the decency to do it well? Apparently not. At least she accepted that he had been doing a good thing when they had last met. Still, that didn't mean he appreciated being preached to or judged on two minutes of talk.
'Hardly out of the ordinary.' Who actually wanted to hear that they were mundane? Had such comments been well received in the past or something? He supposed it possible considering how some folk were. Yes, some liked to be indistinguishable from the next Nequus to be safe from possible ridicule but he wasn't one of those cowards. Hadn't he chosen this life because it was out of the ordinary, because so few were willing to do as he did? Either this mare was trying to insult him or she wasn't half as insightful as she appeared to think herself.
Oh and then there was the fact that she seemed to think him too stupid to keep the two foals from putting themselves unwittingly in danger. If tasting sea waster was hazardous he would have told them to avoid it. Had he come off as dumb do-gooding muscle and no more? He certainly hoped not.
…Nevertheless, it did not do to be unpleasant to a lady.
Sol bent to nibble at an itch on his knee and made a soft noise in response to Chandara's words that could have been affirmation if one chose to interpret it so or could have been something else entirely.
When he raised his head again, the Ichsa warrior's eyes wandered over to the playing foals and a smile overcame his lips. It was good that they were enjoying the beach so much; he had thought they would but confirmation was still a lift to his spirits.
"Watch your step Calliope," he called to the white filly, "sometimes there are rocks under the water to trip on." Though falling in water was never as bad as falling on land he felt it a good warning to give in any case. If she did trip now she wouldn't be so surprised and hopefully wouldn't inhale too much water. Then there was the fact the he wanted to prove to Chandara that thoughts did in fact run through his pretty little head once in a while.

"I seem to have insulted you." Chardara said apologetically. "I'm sorry. If what I said angered you."
Chandara looked toward the foals with a slight frown, she hadn’t meant to be insulting not in the least. She should have been more careful with what she said. Chandara watched the young foals frolic and play. Perhaps it seemed her silence was best. She couldn’t seem to get along with anyone.
She stood there and watched the foals play.

The white filly bobbed her small head to show that she had heard him, and fought to beat her brother in the race. However, he had the same idea in his mind. He suddenly came to a screeching halt, managing to stay upright despite his clumsiness, and whirled around. He bolted back down the stretch of beach they had left, back towards the Ichsa pair.
Calliope let out an 'eep!' of surprise, not expecting her brother to suddenly change direction. She managed to halt in the water and turned, racing off towards him as fast as she could, still refusing to leave the water. "Hey, no fair!" She called in a huff, pushing herself as hard as she could to fight through the moving waves to catch up to her twin.
"Is too!" He called back with a laugh and a toss of his black head, racing as fast as his legs could carry him. He knew he was no match in speed against his sister on hoof, but only on equal terrain. He had the advantage of the sand, which thankfully weren't as fickle or changing as the waters of the ocean, which sank backward then tossed themselves against Calliope's slender legs, attempting to topple her over with every wave.

The Ichsa stallion shook his head slightly. "Not at all my lady." It probably hadn't been meant badly thinking on it and was best left to lie. They had been getting on well before; she had no reason to snip at him.
"One of my faults, I feel, is my pride," the pale stallion went on softly as he watched Calliope's fruitless attempts to shake her brother off. "It is a quick, hot pride at times and carries me into reactions and opinions before I have truly thought." He hoped he hadn't ruined things with the purple-maned mare; she seemed a good sort and he disliked not getting on with folk he thought to be basically decent.
"I think this is what is commonly know as 'payback time'," the dark-eyed stallion called to the foals in more normal tones, trotting a few paces closer to the water's edge so that every so often a wave lapped over his hooves. Later on they would definitely need to find fresh water to wash the salt off in. If they didn’t, coats would become stiff and itchy and that went without mentioning what the salt would do to his greaves.
The feather-adorned stallion paused and turned back to Chandara. "Calliope is forever out-pacing her brother," he informed the other tendril-winged Nequus with a tentative smile.

Chandara smiled glad to be forgiven by the grey stallion. She hadn't meant by anything insulting by it. "Thank you sol" Chandara said flicking her long rit tail. She watched the foals play, chasing each other still.
The mare nodded with a kind smile.
Chandara laughed a bit. Then nodded "I see," she said.
