The jungle made her feel slightly uncomfortable, though her pride would not allow her to admit it. There were too many trees, which were wonderful, but there were insects and prey that was too small to make any substantial meal. She preferred the plains, where the open lands allowed prey to grow larger. All she had to do was catch them and drag them up one of her favorite trees, and no one would bother her (except for some envious hyenas). Mchanga'Alfajiri rarely had an empty stomach when food was plentiful. She was an accomplished predator, and had learned from her mistakes in her adolescent years.

But she certainly couldn't make do with the jungle when large prey was obviously so rare. She tossed her head in obvious disdain, and weaved her way through the low brush and out of the hideous place. Even in a different environment she never took a misstep. Alfajiri liked to fashion herself incapable of finding fault now that she had gotten out of her faulty adolescent years. She was too old for mistakes, and she was not going to make the mistake of staying here. Already she had been in the jungle too long, a few weeks perhaps, travelling through it, looking for something different from her daily life.

It was such a relief when, finally, she reached the edge of the jungle. Her senses told her that she wasn't exactly near the land she had been raised in, and this disappointed her somewhat. But, whatever, as long as she found a nice tree to make herself a home in for a little while she'd be happy. Alfajiri just needed one long nap after having to make guesswork through the jungle.

"I vow to never enter you again. I will go around if I must."

Sitirika stretched, a big, luxurious feline stretch, and padded out of the bush he'd decided to sleep under (he wasn't your average leopard, and slept on the ground in plain sight and under things, like bushes or rocks, as often as he slept on branches) and toward a little watering hole just a few metres away, in plain sight of Mchanga'Alfajiri. Well... it was little compared to others he'd seen. It was wide enough for a few of him to stand nose to tail in the water, and deep enough for it to come up to around his shoulders. Not that he'd gone for a swim or anything to test that depth. Oh, no. He didn't appreciate being wet.

Which was probably why his fur was so casually scruffy. Sure, the white on him was actually white, as he kept it so by grooming himself, but he didn't have the shine to him that animals who bathed regularly did. Not that he cared one whit about that, anyway. He had no interest in his looks; by no means was this cat afflicted with vanity. He was too laid back to want to preen himself to perfection each day, when he was just going to be dirty again by the next. What was the point? Life was too short for all that fuss and nonsense.

He crouched by the water and took a long drink, and then he stretched again, another nice and long one, rolling his shoulders with it. As he sat back and gazed up at the sun, he wondered if today would be the day he ventured into the jungle again to prove the dense trees didn't affect him, or whether today would be the day he started travelling once more. Or if he'd just stay around here, like he had for a while now. It was hard to leave such a nice little place, where there were seldom any others. He liked the quiet... and the lack of bothersome company.

She turned a critical eye on Sitirika, noting his scruffy appearance. A little part of her was filled with disdain for this leopard, and on normal circumstances she would've gone on her way. Very rarely did she devote her attention to someone else, or be the one to greet someone else. She let others do that, and then took the situation in stride. Sometimes they had lovely conversations, but never did she have 'friends' in the permanent term. Other times there were fights, usually started up by Alfa because she could no longer tolerate the other. But most of the time they got bored with one another and parted ways. No, she didn't let anyone stay the night in her tree. She just didn't like most other creatures that much.

And she sensed that she was not going to like this leopard all that much. But, she needed directions, and he was the only creature that looked like they belonged here... and was worthy enough for her to waste time on. She didn't expect to have a conversation much past, "Do you know the quickest way, without going through the jungle, to the plains?". Hopefully this leopard would be kind enough to give her the correct directions she needed so she could return home and stake her claim back on her favorite tree.

She padded forward, standing besides Sitirika though she was yet to say anything. Bowing her head, she took a quick drink, acting perfectly calm and collected, deigning to speak to him whenever she /felt/ like speaking to him. "Hello." She had finished her drink and had straightened, yellow eyes casually observing Sitirika, patiently waiting for him to return her greetings. She wanted this to start and end quickly, so she could move on with her life.

Had he just successfully managed to jinx himself? He cast an unimpressed sidelong glance at the female as she came up next to him, and mentally cursed. As soon as he thought that this place was blissfully free of other inhabitants, someone else showed up. Typical. And just why was she standing directly beside him? The watering hole was bloody big enough for her to keep her damned distance and have a drink at the same time. What was with people these days? Did the term 'personal space' not enter their minds before they acted in such ridiculous ways?

Oh, and now she wanted to talk. Lovely. But unfortunately, he didn't. Getting to hs feet and then moving pointedly away from her, he sat down again a few feet away. He took the time to get himself comfortable, curling his tail neatly around his left hind leg, and he yawned yet again. Only after this did he deign to look at her, his dark gold eyes passing over her briefly before he turned them away again without even a slight glimmer of interest. "Hello," he replied, and from the curtness of his voice and the way he was letting his interest travel other places - like the herd of antelope he could see in the distance - it was obvious he wasn't wanting a conversation. He just hoped she got the message he wasn't your regular kind of chatterbox. It took so much more effort to tell someone to leave him alone if they weren't smart enough to figure it out for themselves.

Watching him, she found herself amused when he pointedly put some distance between them. The silly creature was acting like a child! If he had no desire to talk with her, he could've just said so. But since he hadn't said anything... well, she was going to get her directions and chat with him for a little bit. Alfajiri hadn't intended on spending too long here, but Siti's attitude interested her. He had to bore her in order to get her to leave. If he had just given her directions, and not moved away like an unreasonably upset child, Alfajiri would've been gone in nothing more then a few minutes.

"I was wondering if you would permit yourself to spend a few moments giving me directions back through the plains, preferrably not back through the jungle." Just a little bit of her hate of the jungle leaked into her voice in that moment. Alfajiri herself wasn't one to talk all that much when the situation didn't interest her. But the situation did interest her, and though she knew that Siti wouldn't appreciate a long conversation (he had made that clear, and she was by no means stupid) Alfajiri was going to stick around for a little longer then necessary. It was clear that she didn't intend to become friends with him. Alfajiri hadn't even spoken her name by this point. If he wanted to know it, he would ask for it, and otherwise she probably wouldn't give it for awhile, or not at all.

He kept his eyes fixed on the herd of antelope in the distance, debating whether or not he should go and hunt now or later. He wasn't really hungry now, though that never stopped a leopard making a kill and stashing it in a tree, and on top of that, he was feeling lazy. Which wasn't unusual for him, especially just after waking from a catnap. But the disadvantage was that the herd could move away before he got up the energy to go for a real hunt. Ah, such dilemmas he was faced with. He had almost entirely put Alfajiri out of his mind until she spoke up.

Glancig over at her out of the corner of his eye, he smirked slightly. "Then you're out of luck. You're on the opposite side of the jungle you need to be on." He flicked his tail and watched as the herd moved slightly, making his muscles tense for a few moments before they settled to graze again, at which point he relaxed. He had a few more minutes to wake up before he had to make a move after them. And he hoped those few minutes would be ones of peace and solitude.

She noticed, irritably, that his attention had drifted away from her and to a herd of wandering prey. Alfajiri hadn't made a decent kill in a few days, and it was probably around the time she should make a hunt and a kill of something antelope-sized. But Siti had gotten on her nerves enough that she could stand to lose a hunting opportunity. Raising herself up, she eyed the herd, willing her scent to find its way to their nostrils. Along with the sudden roar she let rumble out from deep down in her chest... it was clear the antelope would be on alert and quite nervous. Siti would have a more difficult time hunting them, if that was what he wanted to do. Alfajiri was going to make it clear that he was talking to her, thus his attention should be on nothing else but her at this point in time.

Sitting back down, she eyed him levelly, debating on her response. "A jungle cannot cover the whole of the world. How long is the way around it?" Alfajiri was going to get an answer out of him no matter what she was forced to do to get his attention. She'd make his life miserable until he gave her what she wanted. Alfajiri was quite the master at being a pest, mainly because she seemed to attract them herself. Siti was not in for a peaceful time in his life at all.

Sitirika had to stifle the urge to make a swipe at her. He was still in an even fouler mood than he ever usually was since the fish god decided to stop by for a chat, and this female was testing his very last vestiges of patience. If he were to manage to grab a decent meal now, he would have to stalk the herd, or find another. All thanks to the female who couldn't mind her own damned business. How he managed to keep a calm expression then, he didn't know. But he pushed himself to his feet, fully intending to go and catch that meal rather than stay with Alfajiri.

Bunching up his tense shoulder muscles, the male rolled his eyes. "Anyone with a smidgeon of intellect could summise on their own that the way around would be longer than the way through. What do you think I've done, counted strides around the damned place? If you want to know how long the way is, find out for yourself." His tone was clipped, his words short with his irritation. He started walking, in the direction the herd was still lingering in, but more warily now. "Get moving. The more time you waste here wagging your jaw as if I'm interested in a single sound that comes out of it, the longer it will take you."

She sensed that he was irritated, and in fact could feel his irritation vibrating off of the ends of his fur. This pleased her greatly, because for his attitude towards her he deserved to be made angry. If it was possible, she was pester him on occassion, all because of this first meeting. He never did have to like her. All he had to do was honestly help her out, and she would've gone along on her way back to her home to chase whatever leopardess decided to trespass on her territory. But, personally, she did not mind spending a little more time here if there was some way to entertain herself. She could easily do that by bothering Siti. This was going to turn into a very... extended vacation.

With a little grin, she got up, following him as he stalked the herd. This was probably something he did not want in the least bit, and that was why Alfa was ding it. "I think it would be easier to find out from a local, though, about how many steps it takes to get through the jungle. I could then compare it with the steps around the jungle, and thus make my decision based off of it. Now, you seem like a very helpful fella... so help me. Or I'll chase your meal away for being so nasty to me." Deep inside, she was just as irritated at him as he was at her. What the nerve of this male, thinking that he could just brush her off and then insult her. She wanted to do nothing more then make his life as unpleasant as possible.

As Alfa started to follow him, his irritation only increased. Why couldn't this irksome female just realise that he was uninterested in her and go her own way? He'd already given her the direction, and that was enough assistance. She should have moved along a while ago already, instead of wasting both of their time with this pathetic, petty little game. And if she so dared to take it one step further and scare away his food like a petulant little child, gods help her. He didn't know what he would do. His temper seemed frayed beyond repair after meeting the fish god, and she might just suffer for it.

Throwing a glance back over his shoulder, he gifted Mchanga with a sneer that bared his long teeth. "Never set a willing foot in that jungle, never will. Go ask someone else so they can feel like their ears are bleeding from the sound of your voice." He kept moving forward, his eyes narrowed and his head lowered, tail rigid, so the entire length of his spine was almost a perfectly straight line. "Or, better yet, just walk through the damned thing yourself if you really want to know which way's the shortest."

He wanted Alfa gone, away from him him, far away. A certain trick had gotten him his wish when confronted by the arrogant catfish, and it might just work with this retarded female. As he continued walking, he dug his back paws harder into the ground, kicking back with each new step, sending a shower of mud and dust in Alfa's direction each time he did so. He knew most of his kind were vain about their looks and kept themselves in pristine condition; he might just be the only one of them all who didn't care.

"Your ears are the only ones that I want to bleed, and they aren't doing that quite yet. It's clear I have try harder." Her voice was sweet, and only that way because she hated him so much. It only seemed to grow sweeter, as if that tone of voice would really make his ears bleed. She had to admit, it would be amusing to see a trickle of blood curling around the fur of his ear. If it permanently damaged his hearing, all the better. He deserved it for being unkind and even rude to her. Her hate of him was so great that she'd not feel a bit of pity if he was suddenly attacked by a pack of hyenas and had his limbs ripped out of his sockets.

She followed behind him with a smug grin upon her face, because she saw how much she was irritating him. But, rather suddenly he got to her more then she expected. A pile of mud and dirt hit her smack and the face. "Uggghhh!" It was clear that Mchanga'Alfajiri was one of those leopards that prided themselves on being clean. Disgust rang clean in her voice as the barrage continued, and she immediately entertained the thought of attacking him and shredding his back into little pieces. Oh! She could not believe that he had just done that! What a filthy creature, a disgusting monster! She hated him now more then ever, and it was beginning to get difficult to control her violent impulses.

"You boar," she accused him of. Easily she evaded the rest of his mudified assault by taking a few steps to the right to walk right next to him, side by side. It was almost how friends would walk together... except that they hated one another.

With a roll of his dark gold eyes, Sitirika snorted. Did this ridiculous female think she was that far under his skin? Sure, he was snappier than usual today, but that was only because of the lingering irritation that ugly fish face god had left behind him. If he ever saw that fat waste of space and divinity again... His claws flexed just thinking about what he'd do and he was forced to take in a calming breath just to get them to retract. No, once he got over the audacity of that fool, Alfa wouldn't get nearly so much of a rise out of him. It just seemed like it was going to take a while for it to fade. When not faced with individuals like Bahari, Sitirika was a more mellow creature, more likely to walk away in disdain than rise to the bait of trading insults.

"You think you're that special, do you? I'm used to annoying, bratty little girls like you disturbing the peace." He flicked one of his dark ears as a fly landed on it, and it gave him the grounds for a good comparison. "For all the affect you have, you might as well be an insect buzzing around my ear." In fact, he probably would have a higher opinion of said insect. And he'd probably think it to be prettier, as well. But thinking something like that, he couldn't just let it slide, especially when the female in question was someone who obviously valued the immaculateness of her appearance. "Actually, that would be insulting the bug. I shouldn't compare you to something so much prettier."

He had to laugh, though, when the only insult he got for the rain of mud and dust was boar. "Boar? How pathetic. Is that really the best insult you can come up with?" He himself could have thought up quite a few choice ones, if such a thing would have bothered him. Which it wouldn't, since he had never minded dirt and all the other components that came with it, ever since he had been a cub in the jungle, crawling through the thick undergrowth searching for little morsels of food to get him by. But such memories had no place in his mind these days, and so he shoved them firmly aside.

"Listen, you foolish little girl, you're only getting further and further away from the plains in your quest to be a brat." He glanced to her as she came up beside him, his upper lip curling slightly in distaste. "I honestly hadn't thought you were that stupid, but apparently I was wrong." He picked up his pace a bit now, approaching the herd Alfa had scared off before. "If you had any brains in that thick skull of yours, you would turn back now before you end up adding an extra day of travel to your journey."

That said, the male broke into a sprint, the herd fleeing as soon as they saw his approach, but he was already tracking a young gazelle that was a bit younger than adult, but certainly not a newborn any longer. A decent-sized meal for a leopard only a little bit hungry.

"For being anti-social you sure do talk a lot," she murmured softly. It seemed, as if nothing else, that the length of his comments had impacted her. Truthfully she had heard the words that he spoke, but she didn't take the care to understand them, and thus could not become insulted by them. It was as if she was still holding a lovely and polite conversation with him, and they weren't quite nearly at each other's throats. Oh, she did want to hurt him, especially for him getting dirt and mud on her, but the most successful way to hurt him was not through violence, but through other means. Severely hurting him could quite easily cause him to lose his life to starvation, and she did not hate him to such a degree. Alfa had never hated someone to such an extent and likely never would. There was no reason behind hating someone so fully and truthfully. It was rather a waste of time, and she had better things to be doing with her time then trying to kill someone because she let them get underneath her skin.

"It is the most proper insult that I can give to you, because if you look at the creature that is called a boar, they really are disgusting. They've got huge, ungainly tusks, a smashed nose, tiny beady eyes. Really, horrible creatures that seem to share your affinity for dirt. I think it is a perfect match. Perhaps you were a boar in your previous life?" Alfa could have come up with more impressive insults, but she liked to think herself above the level of petty and dirty insults. Her's were more intelligent, more sophisticated and defined who she was as a leopard. So the fact that he did not seem impressed by them did not seem to bother her one bit. As stated before, she wasn't going to let the other get under her skin more then he already was. She wasn't going to let herself truly hate him.

"Ah, well did it really seem like I was in such a hurry to get back? I'm enjoying myself, thank you." She matched his pace easily, chuckling as he called her stupid, because she thought that it was quite a lame insult. If he had thought 'boar' to be bad, he hadn't quite clearly listened to the own words he let carelessly fall out from his lips. "If you had any brains, you'd open them up in order to increase your undestanding of how other creatures function - by whim."

He then began to sprint off in chase of the heard of gazelle, and perhaps she would have turned away then, would have realized that this was pointless... but a lovely idea had begun to form in her head. Her lips pulled back into a wide grin, and tossing her head back with a sweet life she strolled forwards at a pace quick enough to keep the other leopard in her sight, but not quick enough to bring her up to him. No, she'd let him hunt. She had already foiled it once... why ever would she do it again? Oh, Alfa was entirely above these stupid little games, she knew that. But to indulge in them every once in a while... well, that wasn't so bad.
